You can never go wrong eating here! Mondays are chicken fried steak day!! Huge tender steak... lots of gravy!! Almost soaked in it.. so beware! Gravy is sooo good though along with Texas toast!! 13.99 with 2 sides! I chose corn and mash potatoes! Carb overload. My parents actually shared their plate! Sorry no pictures this time! We dove right in!! My husband had the chicken soup, it looked a little watery and plain for 10.99 but he did add the corn bread for additional. 75 which is really good!! It may look like a dive but still one if the best hidden hometown dives ever!!! Let's not forget to mention the homemade coconut pie that my mother snagged me when I dropped them off! "Them's fightin' words!" When you try to act like "is this my pie?" With her innocent eyes knowing what she was doing. Lololol ! At Johnny's you better get your own! There's no sharing our slice of pie!! Lol Love the family staff there!!! Recommend this place 10 thumbs up! Everyday is a special menu!

A friend recommended Johnny’s and it won’t be our one and only time to go there. Oh my, the yumminess! I am not sure if it is the rub, smoke, sauce or something else but the brisket and chicken were delicious. I didn’t get any sides since we did a take home order but I will definitely try those and a slice of pie next visit. 10 thumbs up!

Went back for Johnny's first day back at Dine in. Awesome food like always. The staff was attentive and helpful like they always are. Great service and delicious food. Catfish was delicious and so were the steak fingers!!

We found this place after a long day of shopping for a new car. It was recommended by the salesperson we were dealing with, and it did not disappoint. Great barbecue. They have a huge menu, and tons of different options for side dishes plus a lot of deserts. The food was outstanding and the people were incredibly friendly.

I called in a to-go order for a large catfish plate and onion rings and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I got there and my order was ready for me. I just added pecan pie to my order. My grandpa really enjoyed his food.

Food prepared the old fashioned way! From scratch. Enchiladas served TexMex style, covered with cheese! Hamburgers are tasty. I'm trying the Bar-B-Que next time. While the facade of the building could use a bit of sprucing up, the food within is a tasty walk "down memory lane". Recommend you try it!

The best fried fish around. Always hot and fresh. Their daily specials are so good. They have so many delicious sides to choose from as well. My favorite is the macaroni salad. Everyone who works there always has a smile on their face. I highly recommend eating here.

An iconic part of Seguin, Texas. Owned by the same family for more than 50 years. They have a big menu, great sides, always packed at lunch. Awesome homemade pies. Highly recommend if you like to eat where the locals go.

I have lived in and around Seguin all my life, I have driven by Johnny's numerous times. I have never stopped until today. I had the 2 meat plate I chose pork ribs and chicken sides were Spanish rice and coleslaw! Man the food was amazing. But you know what caught my attention more than anything? Was the respect the employees had! And their hard work they do!! That's just amazing! Thank you Johnny's BBQ for such a great meal and environment!!

I went there today and was told that they gave my order to some one else so they remade it and made it right threw in and extra pecan pie and a little more brisket than the 1/2 pound that I ordered. When the lady came and gave me my order I was so excited that I left without paying but I called them back and I paid for my order over the phone. All I have to say is Johnny's BBQ is awesome. They have the best catfish, brisket and pecan pie.

Fast and friendly service with great food. We had the steak fingers special and they were perfect, crisp without being crunchy and the batter was wonderfully seasoned. The okra gumbo was mouth watering. We will definitely be back!

Don't let the exterior deter you from trying out this place. I know it's a BBQ place however I had the catfish plate w spinach and pickled beets. Everything had a good flavor. The crust on the catfish was a little too crispy for me. Hush puppies are small and mine were over cooked. The coconut cream pie is delicious. I was surprised that they had such a long list of sides. We'll be back 😁

I am going to start out by saying, I don’t like pecan pie, and yes I am Texan, but before anyone jumps on me for that statement, I must say Johnny’s pecan pies are amazing…I bought two pecan pies the Saturday before Thanksgiving, I bought them for a friend of mine who recently lost her husband, he used to come hunting at my place and then go to Seguin just to get these pies to take home for Thanksgiving…Well my good gesture was in vain, she ended up being gone for the holidays so I was stuck with two pies I don’t like, well I gave one away and decided to cut into the other one, OMG, the best pecan pie I ever sank my teeth into, (did I tell y’all I don’t like pecan pie?)…I gave half of this pie to another friend because I didn’t need that much sweet stuff here, she said she actually got one slice out of it, when she went back for another the pie pan was empty, her son devoured it, and she said her son doesn’t even like sweets…So if you like pecan pie, or even don’t, I have to say Johnny’s is the best around…

This is the real deal skip all the touristy spots in Seguin and head over to Johnny’s. It’s a special place with just the right country atmosphere. The food was delicious and well prepared, the service and staff super friendly. we will be back for another visit next time we are in town.

I know that Friday's special is catfish and with the recent rain and me trying to get my own and not being successful I' thought of the next best thing instead of being self sustainable- Johnny's BBQ. I was disappointed but in a good way- I ended up with the dilemma of having to choose between today's special and the catfish. I was pleasantly surprised that today their special was steak fingers and I was not disappointed at all!!! I've never had such tender steak fingers before and their sweet potato fries, MUAH💋 I tried them too did not disappoint. My son had two meet plate, sausage and brisket and for him he was "let down" for lack of a better words with the brisket because it was too tender for his taste. love the kid but he can be a weirdo because the bite I had was perfection. So don't let that deter you from coming here and having the barbecue because it's excellent 🤣 Each of us had the macaroni and cheese and it was good. My son also had their pinto beans which for him were perfect, especially since he said they seemed fresh compared to day old pinto beans, whatever that means lol. Their staff is friendly and don't forget like I do to order that piece of pie. I've ALWAYS wanted to try it, they look so yummy and delicious and even though it's RIGHT THERE in the case at the register I always miss out. Next time, I swear I won't forget because I'm making it a priority to order that first!

Definitely a excellent off the path location that should be tried. Step back in time, when lunches were served like home. This quaint stop was amazing. The parking lot was full, the dining room was buzzing with local folks and area workers. The counter staff was incredibly friendly and just delightful. Offerings on the menu are numerous. Once we ordered, the wait was breif and most assuredly worth every minute. We spoke to a few locals and they couldn't remember a time when Johnny's wasn't there. Short story... Swing by and take the 7min detour off I-10 and get the best meal in the area.

Food is good. Sliced brisket sandwich and fried orka are very good. I don't like having no access to the soda fountain to fill my own cup with the amount of ice and drink I want and get a refill without having to stand in line again.

Really great sausage and okra. I think I liked their sausage more than the brisket I tried. Also, the steak fingers are pretty tender and very good.

This place has been a great place for years, great customer service and a down home feel when you walk in and get treated like family. Only downfall is people took advantage of the all-you-can-eat catfish on Friday’s and they no longer have it! But they came up with a solution of a large catfish plate which is more than enough catfish for your big appetite!

Got the all-you-can eat catfish and wife got pulled brisket. Should have known not to order catfish from a barbq place. Wife's brisket was much better. The services was good and orders came out quickly. Decent size portions and free drink refills

I had the Steak Fingers and they were Delicious and Homemade. The sides were Mac N' Cheese and Mashed Potatoes...was not my favorite...but I'll try something else next time and get different sides. Love the small down, hole-in-the-wall charm of this place.

I had chopped brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad and it was tender and well seasoned ( the secret ingredient in the salad wasn't for me but still good). The coconut cream pie was AMAZING! My husband said the catfish was also very good.

Husband got fish n shrimp..fish was good, shrimp was fried too long...I had chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and okra gumbo. The okra was not gumbo..it's sweet n sour tasting, didn't like that at all..will go back but different sides.

The fried fish is consistently good but the fried chicken is hit or miss. Need an upgrade on fountain drinks as all were gross but they were kind enough to offer a can opposed to water. Very crowded, could use a bigger dining area. But either way will def be a returning customer.

excellent huge chicken fried steak, one of the best in Seguin. everything from scratch, seemingly the Texas toast was the bomb.com only thing was that they plate it under the chicken fried steak, so it ends up covered in gravy, which is slathed on egregiously i would suggest yall order the gravy on the side... because the gravy softens the crust, so the second half you'll be eating gravy doughy steak and yes, way better than power plant chicken fried steak. power plant needs to change their breading recipe catfish was trash though. i left 33% of it in the trash. my associate as well

It's definitely worth a stop for the homemade steak fingers! Macaroni was basic. Good portions were provided. The lunch special included two sides with 5 strips. This seems to be a popular spot as it's very busy during the lunch hour. The wait for your order may take at least 15 minutes.

Definitely worth it! As well as friendly staff and the Prices are amazingly cheap for the amount of food they serve! I had the brisket plate large... 13.99! Came with two sides, this place is definitely a local favorite and it seems everyone knew each other. As food is being brought out in looking at plates piled up with great looking food. The catfish plate looked amazing! They also have a display of cakes, pies and brownies you can pick from. I will definitely try to get back here asap

Great food, but this is the second time that we were treated like it was a hassle for the staff to serve us. Patrick, the wait staff was good. Will eat there again, but they really need a much better attitude or we will stop dining in.

I love the food but it is a bit overcooked and pricier than before. It's cheaper and more reasonable to buy and cook the meals myself. Prices too high.

Quaint little place someone told us about. The food was good. The brisket was a little chewy. But the pie.... OMG wonderful!! This is over an hour from home but worth every minute for a slice of pie! I like the coconut and the chocolate ones!! Can't go wrong with either ❤❤❤

We were there on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Shortly after we got there placed the order, noticed that they written down a notice that are not going to the all you can eat fried catfish dinner on Friday nights anymore. It was a real surprise to see this announcement. The food and service was okay. It felt and looked different in there. A real disappointment and it will be awhile before we go back.

i got the 2 meat plate with brisket and sausage. The brisket was tough and dry. More like pot roast, than brisket. The sausage was a bit old looking and did not taste very well. i got two sides, potato salad and mac and cheese. The sides were fine, very good. the decor of this place is very old. it looks like the break room at an oil rig. uneven floors, mix and match tables and chairs. rest rooms in serious need of upgrading. very doubtful on going back.

This was my second time here. The coconut and chocolate pie are to die for! Took a coconut one home. Bbq we ate last time. The sliced brisket was touch and chewy. I would not order it again. The Mac n cheese was good.

As for our food, the burger, fries, fried okra, corn dog, biscuit and chicken n dumplings were absolutely delicious! I would definitely come back for these things! My husband ordered a barbecue plate though and it tasted awful. The brisket tasted like it had been boiled. Absolutely no flavor, watery, with a weird texture. I gave three stars because the Barbecue gets 1 Star and the rest of our food was a solid 5! Another thing, the desserts looked amazing but we did not try them.

I love Johnny's food and they have the best catfish in town. But I just can't give them a 5 star. The last two times I've had there catfish to go the pieces seem smaller, barely any meat to them. Today one piece wasn't even edible, it was dry and hard. Not sure what is going on and I won't give up on them yet, but I wish the catfish pieces were better.

Some would call it quaint but it just seemed to be old and run down inside. Ordered sliced brisket beans and potato salad. The brisket was tasty but had a gray appearance probably from being sliced and set out too long. The beans were not hot enough to be safe and the potato salad was not cold enough to be safe... Maybe that set out too long also. And way too many flies for a closed air conditioned restaurant.

I'm giving it a 3 Star because I walked in there to eat some beef ribs and they said they don't carry beef ribs. Is it that kind of like an American? What BBQ joint does it carry beef ribs? They were friendly. The atmosphere was nice but we didn't eat the food because we left after saying they didn't carry beef ribs.

Usually my husband and I dine in and we love the food! On Friday I called in a togo order, or should I say tried, when my husband got home from work. He got home and suggested fried catfish from Johnnys. I didn't think about what time it was or checking what time they closed, it honestly didn't cross my mind because it was 6:45 on a Friday evening. The woman answered the phone, "Johnny's BBQ what can I get you?" "Can I get a small catfish plate please?" This woman starts huffing and forming incoherent sentences and is progressively getting louder, talking about, "I'm trying...huffing, what time is it? 6:45? No, 6:50." At this point she's YELLING, I honestly thought she was yelling at someone in the kitchen. And then she finally spits out, "it's 6:50. We close at 7 and we're on a 30 minute wait!!" I was so shocked I literally just hung up without saying anything. It was 6:47 when I checked what time I called. 13 minutes BEFORE closing. I understand better than anyone as I'm a cook also, usually I would never have called had I realized they closed at 7. However, the way that woman YELLED at me makes me never want to return. If she had simply explained they closed in 13 minutes(not 10) and they were on a 30 minute wait, I would have understood and ordered some place else. Unfortunately it upset my so bad I lost my appetite.

Excellent staff when Betty Lou is working. I've tried just about everything on the menu I finally decided to try the homemade Chicken soup today. I must leave an honest review. The noodles are completely mush and it tastes like Campbell soup from a can with some real pieces of dark meat and herbs thrown in. I'm sorry. Huge disappointment. However the pies any flavor are always on point and Excellent!! Update.. tried the home made chicken and dumplins a couple months ago. I wanted to gag. Horrible mush. And as far as the pies go that everyone likes,? They are ordered from an OFF sight package facility. There is absolutely nothing made fresh in this establishment ☆

Pork ribs and sliced brisket were both overcooked and dry plus tasted like they had been left out since they were cooked. Wait staff cashier and other employees were very nice and checked on us throughout to see if we needed anything. People and atmosphere awesome but taste of food lacking.

Ordered take out bbq and sides. Asked for moist bbq brisket yes it was moist and cooked just right, however the meat was very salty. Everything else was delicious.the cherry pie was very good. One major reason that I will not return is the tobacco chewing and gross spitting habit behind the counter by the order taker. I almost walked out, but had placed my order prior to the spitting episode. Why is this nasty habit even permitted!

I was excited to stumble across this place, since normally finding a BBQ shack away from town with a full parking lot is a hidden gem, but not this time. Walking in, the deer heads on the wall, the camouflaged, boot-wearing clientele, old-school white menu board, the pie fridge, complete with an extremely friendly and welcoming cashier who helped me select my sides (there's A LOT!) - what could go wrong? The "BBQ", that's what could go wrong. The pork ribs tasted like they'd been brined for a week too long - salty, too soft, and lacking real smoke flavor. The brisket was like something you'd get from a school cafeteria - no smoke flavor, Ultra-thin slices. The sausage was about as exciting as the ride over from SA. It's sad when the pecan pie, pickled beets and coleslaw were the best parts of the meal. I Should've gotten the hint when I saw everyone eating the fried Catfish special instead of BBQ. oddly enough, I may return for the Catfish. 🤷‍♂️ Definitely would not pay the $30 I paid again.

We went to Johnny’s for bbq and asked for lean brisket. When it came out all of the meat under the top piece had a lot of fat. So the lady brought us a new dish of meat that was lean. The meat had a weird look to it and did not taste good and had a rubbery texture like it was warmed up. It’s was so bad that we could not eat it. I will not be going back

The food was horrible. I ordered. Bbq sandwich. The stuff was like out of a bag.. Nasty! My boyfriend ordered bbq chicken, sausage and a thigh. Tasted horrible. Had a spoiled taste to it. The pecan pie was watery. I ask her why. And she responded " that happens because its warmed in microwave" i make homemade pies and my pecan pie doesn't melt in the microwave. I would not recommend this place. The food is horrible and the bill is high.

My party of three left with out being able to eat. None of the meat was cooked properly. I took pictures of the sausage that not only smelled terrible, but was beyond expiration, highly discolored. I paid almost 50$ to inedible food. They should literally be ashamed of themselves.

Ok so first of the lady who took our order was the rudest person I have ever met. The “ribs” had zero flavor. Tasted microwaved to death the potato salad was just discussing. The plates the “food” was served on was something you’d see in a prison cafeteria. Probably because they were charging $13.00 for 4 ribs and 2 sides I’d ask for my money back if I didn’t feel as though I’d be robbed by the criminals working there.

This is by far the worst experience I've ever had attitude, had to ask for my money back because they didn't have my meal ready when everybody else I was with was eating and nearly done just done with them I'd been there are few weeks before had a smokehouse Burger and it was horrible so another place that I've had to fire and that's fine by me you help keep me to keep money in my pocket I'm go home and eat or go to real reputable restaurants that's a shame that I can't even go to my own Hometown and eat decently well that's where Seguin is losing folks the only thing you've got going for you is Papes pecan once a year when I need my hall of pecans and your library that's about it don't need anything else!

We were given an apple pie from there about a month ago and it was very very good. This week we drove out there (from San Antonio) for an apple pie. Unfortunately this pie was not good at all. The crust and the filling did not taste homemade.

The food was terrible. The sausage tasted like a cheap hot dog, the ribs and macaroni and cheese appeared to have been reheated numerous times. Spent $30 for gross food and had to go somewhere else.

I paid $100 for 5 pieces of brisket(1pound) that were extremely fatty, a chicken, a small portion of chicken dumplings and 1.5 pounds of pork ribs which came out to 3 ribs! (one of which is dried up). I think I got last nights bbq warmed up again for today. You do not get much for the money! $100 bucks for 5 pieces or brisket, a chicken and 3 ribs is absolutely ridiculous. I won’t be back again.
