All of the food was amazing! I had never had cuban food before and this was an awesome first experience 😸
Love the empanadas. Love the way they serve food on tiered tray. Wasn't impressed with the tapas grilled steak - cheap cut of meat very chewy. I would go back but do empanadas only. The drinks were really good too!!! Very friendly and courteous staff made the drinks and empanadas especially good😊.
Havana exceeded all expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the vibrant atmosphere and welcoming staff. The highlight was undoubtedly the Mojito menu, boasting an array of tantalizing options that were as visually stunning as they were delicious. As for the food, it was a journey of culinary delight. The menu offered unique twists on Cuban classics, including mouthwatering dishes like the different types of chicken, each bursting with flavor and expertly cooked. What truly impressed me was the restaurant's commitment to catering to all dietary preferences, with healthy and flexible options for both vegetarians and carnivores alike. Overall, Havana delivered a dining experience that was way beyond what I had anticipated. With its impeccable Mojitos, flavorful food, and inclusive menu options, it's a Cuban restaurant that sets the bar high for excellence in every aspect.
Living in Dubai, we are spoiled with the best restaurants in the world. So when I was in California recently, I was let down by the Michelin level standards until I went to Havana. By far the best restaurant we went to throughout north California. We literally tried the menu and honestly can't say anything bad. Everything was delicious, especially the prawns on rice dish, scallops, lamb chops, Cuban sandwich, paella and the tres leches!!!! Will be back in California in 2026 so I will 100% be coming back to feast again. Thanks for the service as well which was awesome!!!
One of the best restaurants in Walnut Creek. The service here was phenomenal and everything came out so quickly and fresh. The staff was incredibly friendly too. My personal favorite was the lamb racks and the empanadas. The deserts were large portions too. 10/10 would recommend!
I had the lamb chops and they were absolutely the best I’ve ever had! Highly recommend them. Our waiter, Joe, was outstanding he made the whole experience effortless and enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back for both the lamb chops and Joe’s excellent service!
Really loved Havana. I wish I lived near and I’d come here way more often. But alas, probably will only be once in a blue moon. It’s fun and lively. They have a chill little bar, a TV with sports, and a chill vibe ambiance. Pro tip: of you have your own nice wine, it’s only $20 corkage fee. The food was freaking amazing. We shared dishes so had the opportunity to try a lot. Mango spinach salad was delicious and I am not a salad person. Perfect dressing. Smithers appetizer was the crispy wings in a sweet and spicy sauce. So good. But the best appetizer was the lamb lollipops. You’ll love them. Paella was tasty. It’s the mushy type, as opposed to the type that is crispy and sticks to the pan. Get the seafood/meat one. We also had the veggie one which wasn’t quite as good. Ropa vieja is braised brisket probably cooked in a pressure cooker or clay pot till it’s nice and soft. Paired with rice and plantains. Delectable. But the best shoes was the chimichuri shirt steak. Oh. My. Goodness. I probably could have eaten 3 plates of just this. And it comes with a mash of some type which is about 3x tastier than mashed potatoes. Did I mention tres leches cake and churros for dessert? Ridiculously good! I miss it already.
We were there for brunch and ordered the plantain French toast, the Cubano, the strawberry mojito and watermelon mojito. We recommend all of it! It was a nice mix of classics and California fusion. Service was friendly, attentive, and everything came out at a good time. Marco was lovely and he helped us feel right at home. Great service, fantastic food, charming atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Wow... my wife found this place through a friend from work... a most excellent place for Mojitos on a Friday night! We had 3 different ones, the Single Barrel Rum one our favorite for a notch above a classic. The tapas were fresh and delicious... the lamb shanks so tasty... and the Paella classic we split was more than enough... fantastic flavors! Our new favorite place for something different from the ordinary Latin flavors most Californians are familiar with... don't pass this place up. It's not the cheapest place in town, by far... but worth every penny!
I found my new brunch spot, this place is a whole vibe! The Cuban inspired food was so delicious, had a wide range of menu sections ranging big or small plates. Topping it off with bottomless mimosas.
Great place for date nights or happy hour. Fun lively atmosphere. Food was good but a bit pricey. You totally get your money's worth though. Went there for wedding anniversary. It's nice they honor a reservation system.
The atmosphere, the food and the people were such a vibe. Our server was so knowledgeable and suggest all of the good food. The lamb chops were so delicious my best friend and I didn’t know exactly what to pick because everything looked so good but it was a great price point and bottomless mimosas you can’t complain I love it!
I absolutely love this place! I’ve been here a few times and tried several dishes, and everything has been fantastic. The empanadas are great, the grilled lamb chops is a must-try, and the chimichurri steak is tender and flavorful. Their paella is also great and authentic. The service is always friendly and quick, making the whole experience even better.
First time trying this place. Known for their mojitos, they have many different flavors and they were delicious. All the food we tried was fresh and had great taste. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Most of the tapas come out with in just a few minutes.
Food - excellent! Service outstanding - Host made you feel like it wasn't your first visit! Atmosphere - energized
Top notch... Awesome food and service. The atmosphere was cool and getting crowded as we left. Made a 6pm reservation. Dishes were really good. Hadn't had Cuban food and want sure what to expect. Essentially it's a twist on Mexican food if you haven't tried it. I can say this... At the end is a must try dish. Churros are as amazing as the food add some ice cream and it's a meal completely completed. Recommend💯 percent
Food was amazing, staff was always attentive and the music playing in the background really set the atmosphere. Highly recommend as a first day or place to hang with friends.
Got our food from the brunch menu, it is very busy restaurant, very noisy too. I can barely hear our own conversation. The food is really delicious, I love the stewed beef (look at the generous portion!). Sorry, I eat a lot so any place that serve big portion of delicous food make me the happiest person. Amazing!
I've been missing the Cuban food I had in Miami. I ventured out a little further and am glad I did! Havana Restaurant is Walnut Creek is amazing! The music, drinks, ambiance all give you the authentic Cuban Vibe. The food was the star of the "Vibe" though! All of the food was amazing! The Cuban sandwich is a must! Their tapas were some of the best I've had! Havana Restaurant has left an indelible mark on my palate and heart with their Prosciutto-Wrapped Airline Chicken plate 🤤. Offering an exceptional dining experience that exceeds all expectations. Our waiter made it one of the best nights in a long time. With their exceptional knowledge and suggestions. From the moment I sat down, I knew I was in for a treat. I recommend it 100% and will be coming back for a second meal! 😁👍
We did not dine in the restaurant. We had them cater my daughter’s birthday party at the Light house in Vallejo! The food and the staff were outstanding.
Cuban food is rare in the bay, and we are blessed to have this place! I’d go from SF to Walnut Creek just to eat at this spot again. I’ve gone twice and it’s been consistent and delicious both times. The tostones (twice fried plantains) with guac and lamb chops are the highlights, but everything is phenomenal! You have to order hella plates and share to get the full experience. Cool mojitos too. Our sever Damian was very nice and fun to speak with! Can’t say enough good things about this spot 🇨🇺
What a great place. Everything from appetizer to the main course and the dessert is delicious. Lots of interesting cocktails and drinks options
The chimichuri lamb chops were TO DIE FOR! My first Cuban cuisine and it was worth it. It was also Mojito Monday. We had pineapple passion fruit mojitos that were AMAZING. Will be coming here every time I visit my cousin!
I have nothing bad to say! I enjoyed everything I tried and I tried A LOT!! lol Service was also great! The only thing I will say though is that as a lover of shellfish I was disappointed that the traditional paella wasn’t as good as the veggie paella but it was still good for sure! Check out the pics of our spread! Let’s just say we left very satisfied
This was our first visit, just walking looking for a place to dine and came upon this place. Our server was Joe and he was fantastic. We enjoyed everything we ordered and the items that he recommended including our cocktails! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We will definitely be back! Tapas are good size. There was just two of us, but we even had leftovers :)
Viva bottomless mojitos!! We had an excellent brunch here on a Saturday morning, with bottomless mojitos (3 flavors available) and mimosas both on the menu. Great deal! Also had a cuban sandwich that was crispy and delicious. Highly recommended! Plenty of other options on the menu, but as they say, when in Havana, do as the Cubans do (or something like that). 😃 Special shout out to our bartender Holly, who took great care of us and made our long morning a memorable one. Great job and great service! Will definitely come again on my next visit to Walnut Creek. Olympic Otter
Lively local spot with great spot and amazing service. Been coming here for years and I especially like to bring out of towner friends and family that haven't had Cuban food before. The owner is often there and has sat down at our table to chat on multiple occasions. They space is very inviting and the music sets a fun tone from the moment you walk in. The outstanding service and atmosphere are highlights that keep me coming back. None of that stuff matters unless the food is good though and there are some phenomenal dishes here. The Cubano Chino fried rice is delicious and the kale salad are fusion dishes that I can't recommend highly enough. I particularly enjoy that the menu is tapas style so there are always a bunch of great things on the table to sample. I'm not sure if this authentic Cuban food like your abuela used to make or anything like that but I can say that it's delicious, well presented, and that I'm always surprised at how much you get for whatever the final bill comes out to be. And between the staff and the music choices it's basically impossible not to have a good time here. Great for a quick lunch, happy hour or a Friday night date night walking around downtown Walnut Creek.
I really like this place. It's hard to find good rum these days, but not here! Havana has a lot of good rum to choose from. We had the brunch and bottomless mojitos.... Yep. I'll be back.
From the palm trees framing the front windows to the mosaic tiles at the bar in the back, the ambiance was great. It's a whole vibe The service was stellar. The food was amazing. The portions were huge. The meats were tender. I'm not an adventurous eater, but everything pleased my palate. We're going back for more... soon.
What a wonderful surprise to come upon Havana in Walnut Creek. The food was inspired - we had lamb chops, paella, and delicious mojitos. It was all flavorful and perfectly prepared. The service was top notch - shot out to Storm who made us feel so welcomed and absolutely elevated the evening. We cannot wait to return!
I went for the lollipop lamb chops, which I had read about on a Facebook page. They did not disappoint! They come with a chimichurri sauce that is incredible. Both my husband and I got the blood orange mojito, and it was so refreshing and tasty! I give Havana a 10/10 on the food, drinks and service!
We actually chose this restaurant by chance. We intended to get Korean food but the wait was very long and Havana was in the same block. When you walked in, the first thing you notice is the music, the friendly hostess, the bar in the back and the people enjoying their meals and conversing with one another. We actually had never tried Cuban food, but it was delicious. All the items we had, we really enjoyed. I recommend you try it out for yourselves.
I had a really enjoyable visit to Havana — it’s one of Walnut Creek’s more lively spots, blending Cuban-inspired cuisine with a relaxed yet upbeat vibe perfect for brunch, dinner, or cocktails. The atmosphere is colorful and festive, and Cuban music paired with a refreshing mojito really sets the tone for a great time. The menu offers an interesting mix of tapas and larger plates with a Latin flair — everything from avocado mash with plantain chips to ropa vieja and grilled lamb chops — so there’s something for both adventurous eaters and folks who like comforting classics. The tapas are nice for sharing, and the portions tend to be generous, making it great for a group dinner. If you go for brunch, you’ll find creative options like croque cubano or plantain French toast, plus bottomless mojitos on weekends which definitely elevate the experience and make it feel like a celebration. Service was friendly and welcoming, and between the flavorful drinks, outdoor seating, and fun Latin rhythms, it’s a solid choice whether you’re meeting friends or treating someone special. That said, it’s definitely a social spot — sometimes lively to the point where conversation can compete with the music — but that’s part of the charm.
The restaurant was a bit chilly, but I highly recommend the Havana Restaurant. The lamb was delicious and savory. Scallops were cooked just right, not overcooked, which is easy to do. I've overcooked scallops myself. Just a mere 30 seconds make a difference between a professional chef and me! I'll return to this restaurant in the near future, and I'll spread the word to my friends as well.
Here’s a quick NED-style review of Havana Restaurant (Walnut Creek, CA): --- ✅ What Works Well - Vibrant Cuban Cuisine: Known for flavorful Cuban dishes like ropa vieja, lechón asado, empanadas, and plantains. - Lively Atmosphere: The space is energetic and stylish, with Latin music, colorful decor, and a warm, upbeat vibe — great for date nights or social dinners. - Creative Cocktails: Strong cocktail program, especially mojitos, daiquiris, and Cuba Libres. The bar scene is a draw in itself. - Outdoor Patio: Nice patio seating adds to the experience, especially in good weather. - Service: Generally friendly and helpful, with staff often guiding guests through the menu. --- 👎 What to Watch Out For - Pricey for Portions: Some guests feel dishes are on the small side for the price. - Noise Level: Can get quite loud during peak hours — not ideal for quiet conversation. - Service Speed: Occasionally slow when busy, especially for large parties or during weekend dinner rush. - Parking: Downtown Walnut Creek can be tricky for parking during peak hours. --- 🎯 Verdict Havana is a great pick for flavorful Cuban food, fun vibes, and cocktails — especially for social dining or date night.
We come here all the time and the food and service is always incredible. Tonight we had reservations for my daughter’s 7th birthday and we had a waiter we’ve never had before. Joe was absolutely incredible. He was very friendly and professional and was there for us offering great assistance at a table with my wife and 4 kids. Thank you so much Joe for your incredible service and kindness. You made it a birthday we will never forget. Thank you.
The menu is Tapas as well as traditional The lamb chops are their USP (unique selling point) and they delivered ! The fish entree was tasty + the corn was a great compliment to the dish Kids enjoyed their meals and desserts ( ice cream) + a lemonade Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and very kind We will be back for brunch !
This was my first time trying Cuban food and it was good. We went to celebrate a birthday and the accommodations were perfect. I got the Paella and it was good, but needed a little more flavor, however I have never had it before, but I know taste. The service was excellent as we had a party 15 and the atmosphere was awesome, I really liked the vibe. For drinks, I got the Yuzu Ginger Gin Mojito(non alcoholic) and the Blood orange -pineapple. I really loved the Yuzu Ginger Gin Mojito! For Tapas, we got the Mojo Chicken wings and Ropa Vieja Empanadas, both tasty and delicious. The grilled Shrimp was good also. The entrees were Paella and Ropa Vieja, which had good taste and flavor. For a party of 15 with the gratuity included, it was a reasonable price. I will try it again in the future when I get to Walnut Creek. I had leftover Paella, but I forgot it at the restaurant 😁.
I had a lovely brunch at this charming place, and I have to say, the food was absolutely delicious! Everything was so beautifully presented and full of flavor. I’ve also heard that their dinner service is fantastic, so I can’t wait to go back and try it out!
Group of 8 of us. Had a reservation. Seated quickly. The service was attentive. We mostly had a bunch of tapas. Started with the plantains with guac and mango salsa and came a bowl of corn salsa. I'm not entirely sure as I wasn't the one ordering. Plantains were thin and cooked crispy. The guac tasted fresh. The corn salsa was seasoned perfectly. But it's just too early in the season to have fresh. So my opinion- if you love fresh corn, better wait till it's in season. Lamb chop tapas were really quite amazing. The chimichurri was just perfect. Highly recommend. Those who like scallops said they were delicious. We all had drinks. Mostly mojitos. The old fashion came in a martini glass. That was rather amusing. My pineapple-mango mojito was sweet but yummy. Some of us ordered dinner and some of us were kinda full and just enjoyed more tapas. I included the pics. As you can see, beautiful food, nicely presented. And everyone said it was delicious. I would absolutely go back.
Stopped by for a quick bite. We dined outside.. Ash was our server and gave us wonderful suggestions on drinks and food choices. We had the Mango Habinero Mojito, Pineapple Blood Moon Mojito & the Honeydew Basil Mojito which were all excellent. We had a few Tapas to wait for dinner which were enough to share between three adults. Dinner arrived in a short time. All in all the atmosphere was pleasant. Great customer service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We were here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Not the best/lively space but definitely cozy and nice place to spend time around. The service was quick and cordial, their menu was pretty limited for chicken/lamb meat lovers. However, the starters were pretty tasty and well cooked. We loved the empanadas and lamb chops! Their non-alcoholic mojitos are good and tasty. For the main course - we ordered the mojo half chicken with chayote slaw salad. It was bland and not well cooked, maybe it was just not for us. Overall, a good place to visit for their starters menu.
Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: There aren't many Cuban places around so I'd definitely come back. Overall it's pretty standard fare. The extended review... Food: Ropq Vieja - 4/5 - A decent dish and usually a go to for me at any Cuban restaurant. Taste was standard fare. Service: 3/5 - Standard service. Ambiance: 3/5 - A nice setting with a decent amount of seating. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Standard portion size.
It’s a good place downtown for some Cuban food. Staff is friendly and attentive, but make a reservation or you’ll risk waiting (especially on weekends!). Their cocktail menu is varied and the food is also pretty good, but wish it had a more authentic Cuban taste.
The food was delicious. We were staying in Oakland but picked up some take out. My only complaint was the person who handed my friend the food was not very kind to him. He gave him a look like he was plagued and handed him his food with a look of disgust. If you are in the service industry, at least fake enough to hide your disdain or judgements of others. We won't be back. I can make food just as delicious without rude people.
I had heard great things about this place, so I was excited to try it. While the atmosphere, mojitos and service were great, the food was just okay in my opinion. I had higher expectations, having experienced better Cuban cuisine elsewhere. Despite this, I plan to visit again and give it another shot.
I went there with my cousin. The food was pretty decent but the paella had way too much oil from my point of view. The ambiance is cool tho. The customer service ? No no no no
Terrible waiters! Without any respect for customers. It happened several times that we asked for something and waited but she ignored us!! After we finished our food, she said ohh, I forgot that! I packed my food but I left it there. After 2 minutes, I came back and they told me the person who cleaned the table, tossed it !!!! Besides, the food was so so so bad! I only ate 3 spoons of it. I would never ever go back!!!!!!! Don't waste your money there!
Ive been a long time customer at this establishment. I have celebrated many birthdays and brought in big parties to dine at this establishment, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I walked in today, having left my wallet because my hubby pays (obviously). The greasy haired waiter declined to serve me a mojito due to lack of ID. 100% understandable. My hubby gets his mojito and asks me to try it. Immediately after I take a sip, a white bald headed heavy set man stormed to my table, glared down at me and threatened me. He yelled at me so loudly that all of the patrons dining noticed and stopped to stare. I have never been this humiliated in my entire life. As regulars, this is absolutely heartbreaking. An establishment that we’ve personally recommended and supported for many years treated us like children. We have literally tried everything on the menu. We had an order that we regularly got. The hostess always recognizes us and is always very kind and helpful. When asked for the bill, which only included one drink, the waiter was extremely rude and obnoxiously sighed, as if we were inconveniencing him. This treatment is not acceptable. We were belittled, reprimanded and infantilized. Tonight, we were looking forward to a nice dinner, and were met with public humiliation and ridicule.
