Opinions de Tomatina Walnut Creek
I saw the Tomatina Italian restaurant while on my way to the Fountain Head Auditorium to hear this soon to be retired politician talk about how her and her slug husband have manipulated the stock market in their favor because of the insider trading rules that Congress currently enjoy. Well, I was a cool hour and a half ahead of schedule, and I already had plenty of rotten eggs to throw at her, so I figured I'd swing into Tomatina and have some amazing pasta! And...That's exactly what I did! Let's just say this...It was Spectacular! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ and well worth a detour!
This restaurant provides excellent ordering experience - you just have to scan the code, and then order online through a menu with IMAGES. The served food was real Italian food; taste, quality, and smell were just good. The gradian pizza was the best.
First time at this place. Started off with the Prosciutto and Salami Stromboli which tasted fresh and delicious. Then we ordered the Pasta Trio which came with Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, Lasagna, and Basil Pesto Alfredo Rigatoni which tasted like it was straight from Italy. Would easily drive here from wherever I am as this place is top tier and the foods taste elite. We were seated outside quickly and the customer service was A1. The ambiance feels very authentic Italian and the vibe is peaceful
I’ve been bringing my family here for years mostly because the food is very good. In the past, we would usually expect slow or poor service but things have changed and the service is great now. My favorite menu item is the Calzone (mushrooms and spinach) and they also have good desserts. I miss the crispy polenta and I’m not sure why that was dropped from the menu. I also believe that kids eat free on Thursday’s and I’ve certainly used that special over the years. The patio has heaters and is quite pleasant when it’s not too cold though on weekends, there is a steady stream of idiots in loud cars racing, by which can be annoying. At that point, we just sit inside. This is certainly a “go to” place for us, whether we are eating in or doing take out.

Great service, Very nice and friendly staff, I love the food, I had a great time with my kids they just love it, We will come back for sure, chef Rogelio thank you and everyone for your hard work.
Excellent Antipasta Salad that was crisp and fresh. Fresh made Brickoven pizza 🍕 and hostes games us to taste garlic balls with homemade sauces to mix and try. Excellent service, staff, atmosphere 👏!!
My husband and I dined here last week as we are visiting our daughter and son-in-law who live in Walnut Creek. Food was great and customer service was outstanding! Kayla recommended a wonderful pizza and coming from a Chicago girl, who is very particular about pizza, I was very impressed. The pasta looked amazing on others plates, and we will be ordering soon for take out and will get both. I understand that the sauce is made in house. We highly recommend this restaurant!
Great atmosphere, service was awesome. They were courteous and friendly. And the food was delicious, fresh and authentic. I will go there again.
The food is consistently good. And being an Italian raised on delicious, home made from scratch meals Im pretty picky but this place has always come through. Bravo!
Great food, try the piadinis, they are all excellent! My favorites are the salmon and the steak. The prices are very affordable especially compared to other restaurants. This is a great casual spot to go with family or friends and also great for take out.

Ordered the following: - Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo pasta - Bruschetta Ease of ordering and paying the bill is amazing however customization is limited. Server took a little longer than usual and front desk person didn’t explain the option of ordering via phone using QR code. Overall food quality and taste was really good. Value for serving size is not there, inflation might have affected this trend. I would visit again and suggest a friend.
went with friends and got the margharita pizza, chicken alfredo, and spaghetti and meatballs. the food was great but the prices were slightly high especially for the amount of pasta we received. overall still great and service was very fast.

I’m a big fan of Tomatina for years but this location disappointed me. To start with, they don’t offer calamari for appetizers, and they are quick to point to the menu fine print, why? If you don’t offer it take it off menu all together or cross it out. The Piadine i ordered the flat bread was cold meaning they don’t make it to order and they are premade. All other locations specifically Union City offers hot fresh flat bread. I also noticed they put too much cheese and not enough dressing. The garlic bread appetizer was also old, not freshly baked. They have a reservation option online but it says no reservations available and yet we showed up and the place is empty! WTH!!🤦
Visited Tomatino and overall had a mixed experience. The prices are quite reasonable for the area, and the food was genuinely tasty — especially the seafood pasta with a rich and flavorful sauce. However, there were a few service details that left me disappointed. The menu listed calamari as part of the pasta dish, but it was missing and no one informed us about the change. Although we still paid full price, there was no mention or apology discount . Additionally, basic things like a side plate for seafood shells or proper napkins on the table were lacking — we had to request extra napkins, and even then, they were insufficient. We also ordered pizza, which had a good dough, although the toppings weren’t quite to our taste — but that’s subjective. On a positive note, we really appreciated the kid-friendly presentation of the lemonade with a spill-proof lid — a thoughtful touch that made a difference and pencils for drawing. Overall, there’s potential here, but attention to service details would elevate the dining experience significantly.
Food was alright. Service was too slow. Server was nice but he was too busy to remember what we asked. Took too long to order food. We were there on a Friday night around 4:45pm. People started coming in when we about to leave.

This place is past it's prime. The evening I visited the staff was understaffed and could not keep up with customers needs. At one point, I had 3 different people covering my table which made it difficult to know who to flag down if I needed anything for the check. I get it that when one is understaffed it's all you can do to take care of business but some restaurants know how to manage and make it seamless. This place could not The food was okay, not too authentic and somewhat lifeless in its taste

Used to go here a lot but the service has become terrible. Sat at our table for 20 minutes without any acknowledgement from staff. They are way understaffed .
We’ve eaten from Tomatina for years now but in the last few months, the food has just not been the same quality. I don’t know if they’ve altered some of their recipes but multiple items on the menu are no longer as tasty as they used to be. They also don’t put safety seals on take out or delivery orders.
Overall service was extremely bad. Not only our waitress wasn’t up to date with what was available in the menu but also just to get our food it took more than 20 mins. Kind of ridiculous when you put out into consideration that there were only 3 tables being served and our order was just meatballs and soup. Last surprise was to receive the meatballs first and the soup last, almost cold… 🤷🏻♂️
Ordered take out. Fettuccine Alfredo with mushrooms came out to be $21 and it was a sad kid size portion. Terrible rip off!!!

Food had no flavor at all. Ordered creamy pesto pasta, had absolutely no flavor. The “sauce” was like pesto WATER. It wasn’t even sticking to the noodles, chicken was also very plain and tasted like nothing. Had to force myself to eat it and tried to like it but it was so bad. Also calzone was so dry and had no flavor and looked like a burnt bread on the outside. Sauce tasted so bad as well. Also got sat uncomfortably close to other customers when there was other seats available, so awkward.
The food here is great but this place is shockingly discriminatory. If you look at the other reviews on here, you'll see similar experiences. If you are Asian, don't take your business over here. My party arrived before another party next to us, and we clearly saw our pizza was already waiting on the kitchen table ready to be served. They were served before us even though our pizza was already waiting in visible sight to be served. The pizza was already lukewarm by the time it was handed to us. When handed our pizza, we didn't even get a slight smile or greeting from her. She even greeted the other surrounding tables about their specials but we didn't get that greeting. We are paying customers and this is how you treat us? Unbelievable and unprofessional. I don't really write reviews but it felt necessary to write this one.
Poor experience. Third in a row, beginning with sloppy preparation of the salmon, which was at one time excellent. I should have known as there is no wait at this place any more ever. This Tomatina restaurant has been on a steady decline for years. It not longer has a cozy, friendly feel where people come for miles and line up along the wall with an intoxicating smell of good cooking. Instead it is a dirty shell representing a new Walnut Creek. It is a corporate chain and the staff has a high rate of turn over due to what is clearly a string of poor management.
Really disappointed by the service. The waitress who helped us was openly rude and even spoke about me to another staff member out loud while I was still at the table. Customer service needs serious improvement.
