If you’re looking for a spot that offers more than just ayce sushi, Toryumon is the spot for you! We came at a peak dinner time so it did get a little crowded, luckily they take reservations so highly recommended! While we were there multiple larger parties arrived so it does look like they can handle the larger crowds. We were seated closer to the sushi bar/kitchen area but it appeared that there was a larger dining area on the other end of the restaurant. Food wise, i highly recommend the sweet shrimp and scallop sushi! The pieces melted like butter and tasted so creamy! The rice quantity is on the bigger side as well as the portions so be careful when ordering. The ramen was also a hit along with the aged tofu! Those were my top favorites!! Service was decent! Nothing over the top, our server checked in a few times, and the overall service wasn’t too slow given the crowd. There is no dedicated parking lot so street parking is it for this area. However, we parked in a garage and it was about a 5–7 min walk so not bad if that’s the route you want to go.
Food is 4/5 due to non-sushi entrees being a little bland, but the sushi is 5/5. Service was kind and professional. Atmosphere was good, but didn't have that "wow" factor. We got the all you can eat (AYCA) for $35/person, and I feel like it was reasonably priced. The sushi menu had a good variety on it. There were also other food options like ramen and hibachi included, which was a nice touch. I think the standout dishes to me were the mochi desserts, which were 5/5. Also the ramen and other entree foods in the AYCA were full-sized, which was surprising but also nice in case you're not feeling sushi (but they also fill you up). Service was at a good pace and there wasn't really a time where I had to wait to place my next order. Servers were all professional. Definitely recommend making a reservation as the staff was very helpful and flexible with the times and it can get busy.
Great selection, plenty of seating, quick service, and easy to access location. I had the Spicy Girl and Rising Sun rolls, both were great. And strawberry dessert.
The service was excellent and the sushi was out of this world. The meat was fresh, the grilled meat was outstanding, the wasabi fries are a must, you will order a second one. Many rolls and options to choose, bring friends as it is a great spot. Go down the stairs and it is right in front. Going here next time we visit DC.
(If u are a GW student, u can use your dining dollar, too!) Loved the ramen … i visited Japan 3 times and this ramen was the best, even better than the one i had in Japan 😍 Im not a fan of donkotsu ramen, but this Tokyo ramen was sooooo good! My friend had a spicy one ($16, original is $15) and the soup was good, too! It tasted like a spicy peanut based soup 🤤 The roll was not bad, but it was not filling haha. Maybe next time i will try okonomiyaki instead . Would definitely come back again !!!! ‼️UPDATE FOR 2nd VISIT‼️ : i love this place… this time i tried miso ramen, okonomiyaki&beer. OMG I LOVED OKONOMIYAKI SO MUCHHHH!! I missed this taste😂😂 For miso ramen, honestly i didnt like it.. it was too salty for me :( Just try tokyo ramen cause that was is so good haha
INCREDIBLE - above and beyond in service and cuisine. We are so proud quickly that I didn’t get photos of all the food. We definitely got our money’s worth!
Absolutely fantastic all you can eat with incredible quality and ambiance. I am a frequent visitor to sushi Ohayo, another all you can eat sushi place and after eating at toryumon, it is evident this establishment values presentation and freshness and efficiency. Our waitress was timely and friendly, many options to choose from. I highly recommend adding on the unlimited sashimi for $7. Will most definitely be returning! $41 for 90 min of unlimited food is unbeatable.
Tough to find using Maps, but worth it. Just the right size, casual cool ambiance, really good Ramen, and vegetable Hibachi.
The service here is amazing. 10 stars for our waitress Nana she was great!!! Very attentive and timed everything perfectly. The Menu is great it's very big and there are a lot of different options and creative rolls. I only had the sushi so I can't speak for anything else but the sushi was good, in my opinion pretty good quality. Can't say enough great things about Nana, thanks again!!
We popped in for a light dinner and both enjoyed the quality of our sushi as well as the service. The spicy tuna roll was fresh and I appreciated the crunch on my sweet potato roll
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. I ordered the fire island roll (pictured on top of foil) and it was SO good! The roll had a delicious black truffle soy sauce that really brought the flavors together beautifully. The atmosphere was also very nice. It was a Friday night and not very packed so it was nice and quiet. The service was also great and our server and the hostess were a pleasure. They also provided a happy birthday cheesecake for my sister’s birthday and played music. Overall, it was a great experience and I will be back in the future!
I could swear this isn't my first review of Toryumon, but I can't really argue with Google Maps now can I? I eat here about once a month with a group of colleagues -- and this month, we all agreed to go with the all-you-can-eat sushi. Good grief, I'm full. Also, it was tasty stuff. From the roe to the Spicy Girl Roll (not made with actual spicy girl, I think), we have no notes. I might skip the fried rice, because there's sushi to be eaten. TBH, I'm so full right now that I'm not sure I can say any more. Time to go home. Ah! Money! $35 for the sushi, extra for the giant beer, plus a healthy tip -- and that's still pretty excellent for a DC dinner.
Great little spot, lots of classic options. Rolls we ordered were well made and tasty. Will try ramen next time. Serves alcohol,
AMAZING ramen, great quality food- and really friendly, prompt service. Have nothing bad to say about this place, it is such a GEM. My ramen broth had so much flavor I actually forgot there were even noodles (which were delicious, by the way!) underneath all the awesome and generously portioned toppings. The black pepper tuna roll I got was simple and fresh, no complaints there! Can't wait to come back!
Got the all you can eat dinner, and while I'm not certain I exactly got my money's worth (I just wasn't as hungry as I thought), absolutely everything we ordered was delicious. The chicken karaage came with two delicious dipping sauces and was a much larger order than I was expecting. I would absolutely go back and do this again.
We ordered the Ajitama ramen and it was delicious! Service was okay, the waitress seemed a little short with us. We got refills on water consistently, though! An altogether pleasant experience since we had a reservation in advance as well. The sushi roll my friend got was humongous! We came back a year later and I got the Fantastic sushi roll. It lived up to its name and had tuna, salmon, and yellowfish. Quite tasty with the sauce on the side. Their lychee martini is highly alcoholic and very sweet!
My friend and I enjoyed the pick what you'd like bento boxes for a tasty and satisfying lunch. The included bowl of miso soup was warm and fragrant. Each of the 4 sections of the bento box had several choices so one could make the meal their own. We both picked the seaweed salad, edamame and brown rice. I enjoyed the bulgolgi while my friend had the sashimi selection. Each dish was made fresh and served quickly.
Great food, everything was very fresh and very tasty (note that whatever is marked “spicy” on the menu is not terribly spicy in fact). Served very fast too. The restaurant was clean, casual but cozy, with a true Asian vibe and friendly staff. We absolutely enjoyed our dinner here and will definitely bring the guys more business.
Food and drinks were delicious. Service was quick and very friendly. Honey b roll was my favorite. Got a bunch of specially rolls and the bill was surprisingly low with tip included in the bill. Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.
This was a true 5 star meal. From the gyoza, to the spicy tuna roll to the beyond delicious ramen, it was the perfect meal. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to come back and also order takeout sometime soon!
This ramen was delicious! Fast friendly service. I had the house ramen and it had such a nice mix of flavors and textures. It says it’s spicy but I thought it was quite mild so if you like spice you should ask for more on the side. I ate the whole bowl!
Kind staff and delicious food. Surprised that 35 oz draft beer only cost $13 or $14. Hibachi is a must-eat food!
Absolutely awesome place. I went to try their all you can eat sushi for $35 and it was the best AYCE experience I’ve ever had. The rolls were large and extremely good. I immediately ordered three rolls thinking I could easily do 7-8 rolls. After those 3 I ordered 3 more and was quickly brought out 1 of the 3 and knew I needed to tap out at 5 rolls and canceled the order for the 6th roll before they made it. The waitress offered dessert as it’s included with AYCE. I went ahead and ordered cheesecake which was honestly the best slice of cheesecake I’ve probably ever had. 10/10 would recommend and I haven’t had any desire to eat anything the rest of the day 😂 *Also the music was perfect mix of country, pop, r&b etc Good spot for a first date or even solo
I am and was a regular customer during the pandemic— before they had opened back up the restaurant in person. And let me just say that this is most definitely one of my favorite sushi spots in DC. In my opinion, better than the sushi they serve in Chinatown. A few key points to keep in your mind when you come to this restaurant. 1. Very clean! 2. Definitely try the speciality sushi rolls, they are amazing (tried the Toryumon, Truffle, and Dragon rolls so far!) 3. During rush hours, you may not able to have a waiter fast enough as you were during there chill hours. Thanks for reading my review! You should definitely come to this spot!
I like the place. It was delicious. In the menu they marked raw fish. 5 stars
It was very loud in there and took a while for the server to ask what we wanted, but that gave us time to peruse the awesome menu! Had the Tokyo iced tea and Tokyo ramen, both were amazing! Not pictured were gyoza (kind of a small portion, worth during happy hour), shrimp tempura and avocado rolls. The rolls were wonderful! The tempura was crisp and flavorful. Would definitely go again! Also, happy hour everyday between 5 and 630 pm, great variety of options for it!
Had ramen cravings and this place piqued my interest, they didn’t do dine in yet so opted to call in and pick up my order. They’re tucked in a basement but their signage was noticeable, there also was a Gong Cha nearby so you can order a drink while waiting for your order. The food was prepped & packed nicely, quality was good and was really tasty.
6/5 stars. Impressed by the quality of the sushi and filet mignon. Only complaint is that there’s too much rice in the specialty rolls. But other than that it’s great food for a great price. Just came back from a month in Japan and this hit the spot.
Had a lovely time and enjoyed the all-you-can-eat sushi dinner! It was very reasonably priced and the atmosphere was lovely, we were able to have a conversation without having to compete with music or loud tables to hear each other. The servers are attentive and polite, they were quick to ask us if they could offer us anything else, refill our water, or if we were enjoying our meal. The deluxe rolls were surprisingly on the list of available sushi and they were prepared with care as though they were ordered al la carte. I thought this restaurant was lovely and will absolutely return for an evening with my husband or when good friends visit from out of town. It was also conveniently located to meet friends in government work for lunch breaks!
Ducked randomly into Toryumon with my family (6 people total) a few weeks ago on a cold New Years Eve for something to warm us up. Very glad we did, this place rocks! I had a delicious curry beef and shishito peppers on the side, and everyone was very satisfied with their meals. But what stood out most was the service: some of our group have an egg + dairy allergy that can be very hard to work around when we eat out, and it's sadly not uncommon for waitstaff to assure us there is no egg/dairy in something, only to discover after a severe allergic reaction that they'd forgotten about e.g. butter. But our waiter really got it and made sure the kitchen understood the situation. Not to mention we had some embarrassing spills that they swooped in to help with immediately, no questions asked.
Found Toryumon looking for options near Lisner Auditorium. Saw their menu for AYCE with good options so decided to try it. We were sat quickly and staff was very friendly. Thought since this was AYCE that it would be small plates as they had sushi and entree options, including ramen, but everything was full size which really made this a great deal. Food also came quickly and staff came to take orders frequently. Would definitely come here again if we're in the area.
The All You Can Eat menu has a great selection and all options I tried were delicious. The Honey Bee Roll stole the show! The staff were very attentive, polite and friendly. It made for a great experience all round. Would highly recommend this as a stop for any AYCE sushi lovers!
Toryumon Japanese House is a great spot for Japanese food and sushi. The Beef Curry and Chicken Katsu Don were both very good — flavorful and nicely portioned. Food service was quick, and the staff were attentive throughout the meal, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable. The atmosphere is cozy yet modern, good for a casual night out or a small gathering. Prices are fair for the quality and portion. Overall, a reliable choice for tasty Japanese dishes and attentive service.
This was the perfect place to stop by during such a cold and windy day. The food came out hot and everything tasted fresh. There was a lot of flavor and sizable meat portion within the ramen. We only ordered one sushi roll and it was just okay. It was missing something maybe it needed more sauce or something. We ordered strawberry mochi for dessert and it was absolutely delicious. This place had a great atmosphere and our server was friendly. I’d definitely come back and try other things on the menu.
I visited this spot with a few friends on September 11th. I got to enjoy the Japchae and the seaweed salad. I didn’t particularly like the miso soup. The lychee champagne could be perceived weird by the texture but it was tasty. The pear martini was soooo good. The service lacked a little but eventually all of our needs were met. The place has a nice ambiance and good for lunch with coworkers or a date.
I ordered two rolls to go and I can’t say much about the customer service provided but I took away 1 star because they didn’t provide chop sticks or any utensils with the order. The spicy tuna roll didn’t really standout to me and lacked flavor The sushi rolls were pretty good. Sweet Potatoe roll with cream cheese is delicious! 1 dollar extra to add cream cheese, kinda ridiculous but it’s ok. The spicy tuna was ok! Just lacked flavor and it simply wasn’t all that good.
I really like this place. They have got the freshest sushi I've ever tasted. It's like they have the fish still alive in the back waiting for you to order. Please excuse the photos, I was really hungry and everything looked so good thar I started digging in before I snapped a pic. The food is presented beautifully.
First time experience in a Japanese restaurant and I didn’t regret coming here. We were originally going to have our first Japanese experience at Yuraku, but seeing that Washington DC was along the way we stopped by here instead. Once arriving we were immediately seated and the service was nice. I ordered the Tokyo Ramen ($15) and it is the best ramen I ever had. I normally don’t go to ramen restaurants because I can go to a store and buy instant ramen. But I was shocked by how different they were so I would recommend ordering it. I didn’t really get to see what was at the bar but it still looked cool. -Prices were fair and I think everything was in between the 10-20 range but there might be somethings over that. The area is well cared for and very clean. -Bathrooms. I am saying this so you dont be like me. So in the restaurant there is a way to the restroom. I thought it was a multi gender restroom so I waited for a solid minute before I decided to push open the door to see an hallway leading to Gong’s Tea with a men and women’s bathroom right there. Lets just say I was disappointed with myself after that :D. - Overall I think this is a great place to hang out with friends and family. Its funny how they still have a Christmas theme but then I realized that Christmas is just 4 months away 😂. Area Hygiene: 9.5/10 Staff Friendliness: 10/10 Wait time: 3.5/5 (slightly fast) Food quality: 10/10 Food taste: 10/10 Satisfaction Level: 10/10 Environment Friendliness: 10/10 Overall rating: 4.8/5
The best ramen I’ve found in DC. You can customize the base broth to be richer or leaner depending on your dietary preferences. You can even add extra noodles to make it a bigger meal, though a regular portion is plenty. The staff is very friendly and attentive, don’t be afraid to ask about the menu items if you need clarification.
The food was decent but nothing exceptional. The ramen, sushi, and hibachi were all just okay, lacking standout flavors. However, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, which made the experience more enjoyable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, creating a pleasant dining environment. Overall, it was a good place to visit for the ambiance and service, but the food could have been better.
We had the best service here, the waitress was amazing. It was really fun to see the open kitchen, everyone was kind and polite and attentive. One of our party had never used chopsticks before and the waitress made her a little chopstick helper, it was so cute. She was wonderful! I cannot say enough about how great the staff was. We had a noodle dish, a grilled dish and sushi. The noodle dish and the grilled dish were excellent. The sushi just wasn’t quite it, it was supposed to be tempura, but the fried shrimp was actually cold in the center so it wasn’t the best experience I’ve had eating sushi. Said it was fairly economical for the cost and the drinks were also great! The miso soup was very umami and flavorful.
Hibachi portion was tooooo small. Only few steak pieces. Fried rice was just soy sauce, I didn't taste any other seasoning. Lunch special doesn't seem to be a great deal. My food came out when my friends were done eating... service was OK. We got seated very quickly.
I expected more when spending over $100 on sushi and noodles for my family. No utensils, no soy sauce when provided for takeout. I’m no expert, but I eat a megaton of sushi every week and eating their ginger was like eating kitchen cleanser. I spat it out because I was generally concerned for my health. the rainbow roll was quite good, but without some soy sauce, it was less delicious.
Worst Boston roll I have ever seen. I was really put off by the long pieces of lettuce, not to mention how small the shrimp were. By the way, can you even find the eel in the eel–avocado roll in the back? I understand this is a lunch special, but to be honest, $14.99 before tax is not that cheap, the quality is really disappointing. Also, I waited 20 minutes just for 12 prices of sushi.
We got 2 bowls of ramen, a lobster roll and an appetizer. The ramen broth was mediocre at best. The bowls came out warm but not piping hot so I wonder if they are made fresh or microwaved. It did have very tender bamboo shoots, but no wood ear mushrooms (they used corn which is much cheaper). The broth on both was bland. Service was very lackluster. With only 4 tables of ppl we had to get up and ask for water. The gyoza and some of the sushi rolls are pre-made frozen food........ they charge extra for a side of chili oil and they were so skimpy on the ginger and wasabi that we has to ask for more. Our bill with tip was about $100. Sadly, not worth the money.
We came here for a friend's birthday dinner on a Friday evening. It's located near the World Bank and you have to go down a flight of stairs to access the restaurant. We were seated promptly without a wait. The ambiance is ok inside, nothing exciting to write home about. It's a little quieter and more secluded on the left side of the restaurant, but that also seems to be where all the birthday reservations are seated. While we received our water quickly, it took quite some time to wave down our waitress - they were busy so it was understandable. We ordered 3-4 appetizers for the table, the toryumon spicy chicken, chicken katsudon, bulgogi, and misty (something) roll. They timed the items poorly and we received our appetizers with our entrees, which ended up bring too much food on the table at once to properly enjoy. The tempura came out towards the end of the meal, as did the misty roll. The tempura shrimp appetizer is just ok - standard run of the mill tempura. Seaweed salad is fine. Spicy yellowtail appetizer is also ok. Calamari was also ok. Toryumon spicy chicken I liked overall - it was rice cakes and chicken in a spicy sauce with white rice and some steamed broccoli. Still, it left something to be desired. The chicken katsudon was meh. Misty roll I definitely wouldn't get again, the "filet mignon" on top was cold and rubbery. For birthdays they give you a slice of cake for the table and a couple of waitresses come by to sing. They also have a hat they pass around to patrons for them to wear. It was cute but I'm not sure passing around a communal hat is a good idea. We waited a long time for our check and had to go find someone for it. Portion sizes are good enough and pricing is standard, if not a little on the high side given the ambiance and subpar food and service. I probably wouldn't come here again.
Was pretty bummed with our experience here. We ordered the pink lady sushi roll and king of sea, and both rolls seemed like they didn’t have fresh ingredients. The flavor profile was also dull. The presentation was nice. The shrimp used in the Pink Lady seemed tough and not fresh, and the King of sea was pretty, but the dried chips seemed stale and didn’t have any flavor so all it really did was add a crunchy texture to the roll. The Unagi on top also seemed over cooked. Maybe we just ordered the wrong rolls? The soy sauce was also insanely overly salty and had a strange fish taste with it, (was not the sushi). I’ve had enough sushi in my life to know something was off here. Needless to say, a second trip is not in our future to this restaurant.
The all you can eat is a total scam. It’s not a buffet, you have to order everything, there is a 90 minute timer (where ordering and preparation take a solid 30), and you get charged extra for not finishing. Also if one person wants to do it, the whole table has to to prevent sharing. All the sushi are ordered in 8 rolls. They were fine, but not stunning for the price. All this for 35 bucks. The ramen was really salty and oily and had a weird pork taste, like I’m slurping pig oil. (Ramen from all you can eat also comes in full portions). The service is fine, but it’s a really bad deal.
It was a bad experience for us. We are grateful that they accommodated our big group and got us a table without a reservation. We opted for the AYCE; however, the sushi we ordered took a while. It literally took an hour to get 12 pieces of sushi. My daughter ordered a seaweed salad which is supposed to be an appetizer but we did not get it until the end with the desserts. Not worth it for the price.
I rarely leave 1 star reviews. This restaurant is an AYCE sushi and japanese restaurant. First, their turnover is abysmal and it takes a while to be seated. Once we were seated, it took about 20 minutes for our order to even be taken. Once it was taken, the sushi we ordered took another 40 minutes. However, all of the hot food came quick and in large portions. It felt as if the large portions of the AYCE hot food, which is cheaper for them to make, was intended as a way to fill me up and devalue the AYCE deal. Additionally, because it took so long for food to come out and for our order to be taken and retaken, it was hard to really retain value from the 90 minute AYCE period. The fish in the sushi was a mushy pulp and overall, the food was mediocre. The worst part of eating here, however, was the day after. Everyone I went with experienced the same sickness. Hire more servers, cooks, and improve the quality of ingredients and then maybe this restaurant will be worth the money and wait.
