Came on my bday one year and it was the best breakfast and mimosas EVER ❤️ I’ll never forget it. Now I am looking to go this Saturday for my bday again. The omelette I had was so perfectly made and everyone was so friendly 😍 traveling from Sacramento just for this breakfast and mimosa.
Great Memorial Day weekend special Omelet. Salmon, crab, scallops, avocado, tomatoes, cheese, potatoes and sour cream and toast; outstanding. Absolutely delicious. And a huge portion at that, we split it and came away satisfactorily satiated. Highly recommended!! Never disappointing.
I don’t usually rate many places 5 stars but this is worthy. With the yelp notoriety and it’s location, it’s slam packed on the weekend. I was expecting much lower for the price and such. This place has a excellent food for a decent price. The people are really what make it great. From the cooks to the server staff to the buspeople, they’re all super friendly and unbelievably quick from seating time to getting the check you’re in and out as quick as you need and want. It’s also really really clean from the kitchen to the crevices. Great experience all around. Both meals on a Saturday and Sunday were great
Oakland grill has some top notch breakfast and brunch fare! I had the huevos rancheros, and my friends had an omelette and some kind of pancakes with bananas and fruit. All great. Coffee was on point, both caf and decaf. Hosts and servers were all helpful, swift, and professional. I look forward to coming back.
My husband and I were walking through Jack London Square area waiting for a restaurant to open and happened to walk by Oakland Grill. The place was packed, and to me, that is a sign the place is good. We were greeted and then seated right away. They had a good selection for breakfast and lunch. We split a crab omelet that was delicious and reasonably priced, especially because it came with some toast and wonderfully seasoned potatoes. It isn't fancy, and the tables are packed in, but the service is friendly and everyone in the place seemed happy and satisfied. I would definitely go again.
I had not eaten here in a few years. They did not disappoint. The food and service was the same. EXCELLENT ‼️ you will not be disappointed. Their breakfast is delicious, no matter what you order. I highly recommend them for breakfast. Enjoy
Cool little brunch spot. Good quality food and portions. Service was a little touch and go, but considering it was a busy Saturday brunch I wasn't surprised or put off by it. Definitely try the home potatoes with sour cream. Poached egg by itself had a little too much trace vinegar but as a Benedict would probably have been good. Would go again!
Great food and service. Came during the week and found parking outside front door and no wait. I had the waffles which were amazing. My scrambled eggs were moist and cooked perfect. My husband said his breakfast was one of the bests he ever had and my vegetarian sister loved her omelette. I will be back!
We feel lucky to have stopped here for breakfast. In our group of 4, everyone enjoyed their food. The service was good, and the prices are reasonable. We were just passing through, but will absolutely stop again if we com through the area.
Everything on this menu looked good and within a couple minutes we had our drinks. Within 10-12 min we had our food and mercy the portion sizes are great. Everyone in our party gave this place 5 stars and we all took leftovers home. We landed at Oakland Int and the drive in was about 15 min. Parking was hard but we luckily had a spot open across the block. the service was excellent but this is a bustling restaurant and its close quarters with other tables and people. thus ambiance may be a little hectic depending on how you look at it.
Always delicious. Pancakes are heavenly. Dungeness Crab Benedict is so good. Omelets are huge and yummy. When you watch the food coming out to the tables, it makes it hard to choose. Everything looks so good. Smells so good. And it all tastes so good. Parking can be a challenge. In warmer weather they open up and have more seating. In the cooler weather it is warm and cozy. The coffee is good and bottomless.
This is an Oakland hot spot! Had to wait about five minutes to be seated but the food made it well worth the wait. Would definitely recommend this place
I N C R E D I B L E! You MUST try the banana pancakes (off menu). Crab and Colorado omelette are amazing and will melt in your mouth. Service and cleanliness are excellent. I absolutely LOVE this place and I’m a regular here.
Great spot for breakfast. The staff was so friendly and loved the joes special.
This is my favorite little Oakland breakfast place. The service is always amazing, the food is fantastic, and the value is unbeatable. Stripped down so there's no pretentiousness that we're used to at certain Oakland brunch places, plus you'll be paying $2-4 less for way better portions. Unlimited coffee and attentive staff are really the cherry on top.
This is absolutely my favorite breakfast spot in Oakland! The staff is very friendly and gives off a welcoming vibe while still providing excellent service. The sausage patties have a great flavor and are a must try. I'll typically get the sausage patty with poached eggs, perfect every single time. Very delicious and always consistent!
Every chance I get I wanna come here the food is still at the hospitality. The customer service it is just a beautiful place to be. Well newsflash, I am back again at my favorite place. This time I added some shrimp tempura.
You'll swear you're lost when getting driving directions here, but trust me, it's here & you'll definitely want to eat here. It's situated on a corner that's surrounded by produce markets on all corners. Inside is a laid back, quaint little restaurant that, if you don't get here early enough, you'll be waiting to enjoy their food.
Great stop in for breakfast and dinner looked good too! Staff was friendly and service exceptional
Incredible diner located in the heart of Jack London. All the food is made with love. I’ve had many meals here and the food has yet to disappoint. Wonderful, kind staff. Also - they are now open for dinner every day of the week! A must if you’re in the area
Always loved this solid breakfast spot. Quick service, good food! And now…ALL DAY BREAKFAST! Finally! Oakland has been missing a bfast spot open late (,: we are a house of 3pm breakfast eaters and the only options available until now were chains but Oakland Grill just changed their hours so they’re open until 9!!!
A fun little find located just a few blocks away from the USS Potomac and USS Potomac Visitors Center. Quick, pleasant service and delicious food. I had the Crab Omelette which was superb. My dining companion tried a sandwich and side salad, and was very pleased. The portions are quite generous. It has a laid back comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Salvador was an amazing host, he went above and beyond to help me he was helpful, friendly, informative, polite, and helpful. Salvador went above and beyond to provide authentically amazing customer experience. Great Job :)
Excellent authentic diner vibe and large portions!
Service was outstanding! My son went ahead while I paid for metered parking. I walked in, was greeted, and when the host noticed me searching for someone, when asked about young man, pointed to where he was. They waiter was pleasant, attentive, and comical. We dined around 1pm which was a little slow on a Saturday. Food was hot and tasty. High recommendation for first time. We both had French toast combo with Mimosas, I think there were only two flavors, strawberry and orange. 😋
Absolutely delicious! Thank you Oakland Grill giving a wonderful experience of great customer service, and very generous and delicious portions of food and drinks. Oakland Grill seated us without hesitation, despite it being after 2pm (unlike the rude hostess at Portal, definitely do not recommend), and gave us very courteous, friendly, and efficient service. The pitcher of mimosa here was delicious and very strong! Aside from the drinks, the food was also absolutely divine and delicious! I got the Oakland Grill Burger and my partner got a Sonoma Sandwich, both of which were rich, filling, and incredible. The service here was very quick and everyone was very friendly to us, nothing but compliments in that regard! We are absolutely satisfied in every way and I definitely recommend this establishment. Thank you for the great experience, Oakland Grill. I highly recommend!
Been going here since I was a kid. Great spot for breakfast/lunch (or brunch if you like). Feeling bad about the current state of the world? Get some bacon and eggs! Celebrating your favorite sports team winning the thing? Get a patty melt! Coffee is always hot and ready and staff is always friendly.
Great place for breakfast. You won't be alone coming here, rush wait times can be 30 minutes or more - but it's worth that wait. Fast and friendly service, great breakfast menu with both your normal breakfast items plus some fun twists. The feel is different from your typical breakfast place. It's housed in an older harbor-side industrial building which they have converted into a restaurant, accenting some of the function-first appearance of the area while making it warmer for enjoying a lively conversation over breakfast.
Thanks to the mid age guy I didn’t get his name but very respectful and is a real example of this place. Very good staff, Thank you
Came here for breakfast and ordered the French toast combo with a banana milk and a hot cocoa. The French toast was really good and filling, and the drinks hit the spot — especially the banana milk, which was a nice treat. The overall vibe was casual and comfortable for a morning meal. Service was solid and the food came out fresh. Definitely a good breakfast spot overall I had a really nice experience and would come back.
This location has been a diner for over 20 years that i know of. it was represented by a chef hatted gorilla ("Griller" pun) emblem. We went for dinner and i did not notice if they still have that emblem on the front. It seems to have hints of an Asian or Japanese theme these days (e.g. "Takoyaki" or grilled octopus was on the menu) it is in a wholesale vehetable and fruit market district, so for lifts with pallets of produce are common on the streets. The evening we attended (after Christmas 2025) it was very quiet. the food and service were very good. Recommended.
My jobsite was directly next door so we were able to eat here every day for a week. I gained like 5 lbs!!! Soon good 🤤
Recently realized they are open until 8 for dinner. I got a tasty club sandwich with avocado. My companion got the fajita scramble as breakfast is served all day. We were there on a Friday night and it was not crowded. Perfect spot for tasty food and not a long wait before seeing a movie nearby.
I haven’t been here I years and I must say it’s still good. The service was fast and the food was amazing. My only issue was sitting by a gap in the wall that was blowing cold air in from outside. I think these were service doors that used to open however been converted to a window wall with a bad sealing.
The most intense omelette ever is the Colorado. It is chock full of chopped up bacon, filled with a least half of an avocado all sliced up (not a dark spot) and topped with a big pile of fresh salsa. Also loved was the Crab Cake Benedict, sweet fresh real crab (only $4 more than a similar dish with half fake and half real crab), with a poached egg on a muffin. It may be the most expensive thing on the breakfast menu at $22 but worth it.
This is my favorite brunch place in Oakland! The food is delicious, the portions are just perfect, the prices are great, and their staff is always friendly and prompt. I always get the eggs Benedict. When in season, their dungeness crab special is out of this world and it comes with a good amount of fresh crab. The potatoes that come with almost any dish are always spot on as well. My friends usually order other things from the menu and based on their comments those are also delicious. The coffee is pretty good. However, I would suggest to pick up from Blue Bottle or Bicycle Coffee, which are just down the block and drink those while you wait to be seated/pick up your order. We used to go almost every Saturday with a group of about 7 people and we would always get seated within 30 min or so. There is tons of street parking in the area. Do not leave anything in your car and it should all be good. If you can, go for one of the second floor tables, so that you can see first hand all the hard work the kitchen staff puts on to get out all of those perfect orders.
Great food in a nice little place. You would never know from the outside. Nestled in the produce district just outside Chinatown near Jack London Square. Food is great and so is the wait staff. Loved the Eggs Benedict and Potatoes with a dab of aour cream. Opens a little later than expected at 8am.
Food is ok service is great. Our order was not done as asked with no sour cream for the breakfast burrito, but no problem our sever Salvador had it redone immediately, and even gave us a complimentary fruit tray. Nice touch.
This is a COVID 19 review related, so please read. I have been here too many times before COVID. And after I have been to limited establishments. I will say this. Number one the hours of operation is posted correctly, and dine in is available (outside tables). My sister wanted to buy me breakfast, I usually buy her breakfast. So after several places with posted dine in. We realized that wasn’t the case. After the several miss guided opens!!!! we started the day out at the Oakland grill. Fish and steak was off the menu. Service was limited. But the item I ordered taste was better than I had at this joint before COVID. I ordered a scramble dish . Here I believe they call it Jerry scramble. I asked for A side of English muffins extra toasted, extra butter. It was Good. Potatoes( home fries) was cooked all the way though. Despite having a small egg shell and extremely limited services the food was cooked to point and I left happy and full. Normally an egg shell is never more than a 3 star no matter what. But the flavor and texture was so on point it would rock a solid 3.7. I was happy to round it off at 4. Service could be slightly better but with limited space and workers the waiter was truly doing her best with what she was working with. I’ll do it again!
When arrived for Sunday brunch it was pretty packed. They have 3 floors of seating so wait time wasn't short. Service was fast and attentive. My friend and I both got the Oakland Grill Omelet (chicken apple sausage, spinach, mushrooms, and possibly more that I can't remember) it was delicious and would definitely go back. Mimosas aren't bottomless but they still serve.
Ever since they switched ownership here the food quality has gone down. Had the French toast and it was two pieces of Wonder Bread
This place used to be so much better. We went today and ordered 3 eggs Benedict and a side of french toast. It took 1 hour to get our food. I wouldn't complain about it but the fact that 4 other tables ordered later then us and all were done by the time we got our food was really bad. There was a table that was sat 45 min after we got there and they got there food before us. I would rate lower but the food was still good. The service is what was the issue. There seems to be new owners.
Good portions. A bit on the pricier side when making substitutions. I was disappointed when I ordered banana pancakes, and what got was sliced banana on top of my pancakes. Not what I was expecting, and not worth the extra $1.50. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and the chicken apple sausage was tasty. Service was quick and attentive. Not sure how busy they get on the weekends, but on weekdays in the morning there were plenty of tables open.
3 stars because the food was good last time we were here. We just left today, after being seated and then completely ignored. Sat at our booth for 15 minutes and no one came around. Not even a water. Also, there were only a few other customers some who were seated after us who were helped. Two servers walked past us multiple times and it seemed like they didn’t even glance at us.
Saturday brunch we came here to grab a bite and then wonder around Jack London Square just because it was such a beautiful sunny day and we don't get to come here too often. Usually we come to visit the 2 breweries that are nearby (Federation and Independent Breweries). This place is right next to Federation. Place was full although we quickly were seated at a table for three. The service was rude. Our waitress just didn't smile at all and she wasn't being friendly and nice. Given that I've been in the service industry before, I know how hard it is to satisfy all customers when you're having the worst day of your life, but a smile goes a very long way. Between the three of us we ordered: - Eggs Benedict canadian bacon ($12.99) - Patty melt ($11.99) - Sonoma Chicken ($12.50) My eggs benny were lovely and beautifully cooked so I was very happy with my dish. Couldn't finish the potatoes because it was too much but they were delicious. Patty melt was perfectly cooked (medium rare) served on a sandwich with caramelised onions, fries and fresh fruit. My hubby was happy :) Now, we come to our friend who ordered the sonoma chicken which came as an open sandwich with Greek salad. It was a mess at first sight, couldn't tell where the sandwich began and where the salad started. The sandwich wasn't nicely grilled which would have been a nice touch. Our friend asked specifically for no tomatoes and extra caramelised onions and he ended up getting tomatoes with no extra onions. Boo hoo :(. Instead of simply saying sorry and quickly come with extra onions, our waitress waited till we were finished with our meal to bring the extra. This is just not done I'm sorry. Restaurant was a little dirty and so were the restrooms. This makes me sad. All in all, nothing really memorable to come back here really :(
I have avoided the Oakland Grill for many years because my experience was underwhelming. I decided to stop in and give them a try while I was in the area. It was early in the morning so the service was warm and efficient, it was clean and they were doing their best to keep it warm. The food however was disappointing. I ordered a two egg breakfast with salmon and potatoes. The salmon was not only bland but very dry from being overcooked. The potatoes were also bland with no flavor. I don't salt my food but that was the only way it was tolerable. I'm also not one to not pay for the food and services I received but honestly I wouldn't have paid for this the food was so bad. This is an old establishment and could really be a place to go if they just invest in a better menu
It's a cool place because it's on a corner where you can watch all of the produce being sold in the morning and the people are really nice. The food was not very good. I ordered the vegetable Benedict and was disappointed. The potatoes were pre-made and my English muffin was undercooked, but the Hollandaise sauce was legit. Oddly, the tomatoes were thin and flavorless, which was disappointing for a produce district restaurant. Bummer.
Great service and location, but I was very disappointed in their crab cake Benedict which seemed like a fan favorite. The crab is fake (which I wasn’t aware of) but also the majority of the patty was breading, not even the imitation crab, and very very mushy. Reminded me of an extra mushy fish nugget from the frozen section. I tried my friends’ real crab omelette and that was delicious. The house potato’s are great as well. May give this place another chance but definitely not the crab cake.
If you're looking for a breakfast spot near JLS then this spot is decent. Definitely busy in a Saturday morning. . We got the Colorado omelette and the Crab cake Benedict. Overall tasty food but nothing particularly stood out as a must try. I'd go back but I'm also still on the lookout for a go-to breakfast spot.
When we arrived, we sat down we was ready to order it was only one person taking an order try to get his attention. I ordered the KFC Korean , chicken wings and waffle. The chicken had a sauce but wasn’t seasoned it was three small pieces, of a party wings. The oil had to bed old the juices from the wings was on the waffle, which made it taste horrible the food just wasn’t good. The restaurant was Freezing cold inside I won’t be coming back Oakland is trash
Pricy but I guess fine for this area. Food was horrible though. Ordered 2 breakfast items. Waffles with eggs over easy, waffle over cooked and eggs are under cooked… eggs are weird though, runny as if rotten. Second dish is egg benedict, weird that is way too sour. Will not come back
I won't be back that is for sure! Firstly, I was greeted at the door by a nice hostess and after we were seated and it went all down hill. The waitress was rude and could careless about service. My coworker ordered his food, and the waitress seemed it necessary to correct him on the way eggs were cooked. What is there to correct on over medium? As for me, I too was corrected on my meal. I asked for the same as my friend, except for the steak to be cooked differently, she told me that "It wasn't the same then". No sense of personality from this particular waitress. As for the food, the price was acceptable but it was lacking in flavor. I had the rib eye steak and eggs with home fries, and toast. The rib eye was under seasoned, the eggs under cooked for over medium and the home fries were dry and bland. This was my second and last time going there.
Food was horrible (breakfast). Every thing precooked except eggs. Last time for me!! Update: was not charged for my breakfast (surprised) so I will give them another chance for sure!
We've been coming here for a few years but won't be returning. The food has gotten noticeably worse: the eggs taste like they were powdered, and the potatoes always have a very acidic chemical aftertaste. The prices do not reflect the quality of the food. I will say the service is always lovely, but we can't justify $60 for two for brunch when we leave dissatisfied
I went here with my mom and the experience was a complete mess. We ordered to sit outside, they boxed our orders as ‘to go’ and did not bring them to us at our table. After we realized this, we got the food and then discovered one of the orders were done wrong. So, they remade the order and then forgot the ordered side dish (English muffin). After I got the English muffin, I asked for honey, which was never brought. Also, prior to leaving my mom used the restroom and she said it was absolutely disgusting and dirty. So, for so many reasons, I can say that we won’t be going back.
I have been coming here for years before Covid. First time back in a while and honestly, really disgusting food and bad service. The waitress forgot about me after taking my order, I ordered the crabcake Benedict and it was soggy and tasteless. Was there a change in management or something? Sad to lose one of my Oakland brunch staples
Disappointed by the food and seriously concerned about hygiene and service. I visited this restaurant with a friend, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish, not only because the food lacked flavor, but because of major hygiene issues and inattentive service. I ordered the Joe’s omelette, which sounded great on the menu, but arrived poorly prepared. The ground beef looked and tasted like it had been steamed, no browning or flavor and the cheese wasn’t fully melted. The bottom of the omelette was greasy and our potatoes looked seasoned but were completely bland. The reason became clear when I watched a server, the same one who was handling food bare-handed, sprinkle seasoning on the potatoes after they were plated. Nothing was cooked into the food; it was just dusted on top as an afterthought. My friend had the crab cake benedict and described it the same way, bland and forgettable. We also shared the KFC waffle plate, which was supposed to come with three chicken wings. Instead, it came with two small wing pieces and one large, awkward drumstick, likely a substitute because they had run out of actual wings. The chicken had no flavor, no crisp, nothing memorable, the waffle was the only thing worth eating. But what really ruined the experience and made me genuinely uncomfortable was the food handling. The same woman who was sprinkling seasoning on plates was also the one cutting toast, plating fruit, and touching all of it with her bare hands. She was walking around taking money, handling cards, menus, and booths then going straight back to touching food. I watched her slice toast with her hands directly on the bread, place food items like fruit onto plates with no gloves, no utensils, no handwashing. She even continuously wiped her hands on her pants before resuming handling food. I cannot believe this is happening in 2025 in a restaurant that serves the public. We brought it up to someone we thought was the manager, but he said he wasn’t, so we don’t know if the concern was taken seriously. Based on what we saw, this behavior didn’t seem unusual or hidden, it felt like routine. Also, my friend felt rushed during the ordering process. The waitress seemed impatient, spoke over her, and walked away before she had even fully finished placing her order. That kind of treatment made her feel uncomfortable and unheard. This place desperately needs proper food safety training and stronger attention to guest experience. The food being bland is one thing, hit-or-miss happens but the hygiene was unacceptable. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it until major changes are made.
If I could leave 0 stars I would . Firstly upon arrival we were seated in the very back of the restaurant and had to walk to the front to get noticed . Secondly the water we were given tasted like dish water , and the food was BEYOND subpar. The “Beef patty” for breakfast is literally a hamburger patty with lettuce around it. The eggs were watery , and the list goes on . The only good thing is the server was helpful .
I had my uber driver pull over. It was so bad I threw up on the sidewalk, sanitation isn’t taken seriously here
Literally the worst diner breakfast I’ve ever had. I ordered the two eggs and bacon set, with scrambled eggs and sourdough. The eggs had this awful chemical flavor, I ate a bite and it almost made me wretch. The potatoes were inconsistently cooked and not at all crispy. The bacon was fine, though crispier than I tend to like. Interior was cold and uncozy. Staff were pleasant.
Never coming back! Top 5 Reasons… 1. Timeliness: We arrived and were seated at 11:29 am. We weren’t served until 11:56 am! 2. Service: Two tables were seated after us, but their food was served before us. I had ordered pancakes long before the gentleman seated to my right ever arrived….he ordered pancakes and received them before I did …HUH?🤔 3. Food Quality: Our food wasn’t all the way hot. I believe this was due to our server not picking it up on time. You actually think since the guy on the right was eating my pancakes that mine would’ve actually been hot right??? …NOPE! 4. Server: Server was horrible. She didn’t come to check and ask for refills or anything. I had to flag someone down to ask for sugar free syrup. The person that I flagged down said “I’ll let your server know.” Server never showed up. I turned and looked behind me and she’s holding a conversation with a colleague. Then when I FINALLY got her attention she says “oh I’m sorry we don’t have sugar free syrup”, mind you by now my pancakes are actually cold! 😡 5. Cleanliness: Cleanliness is next to godliness right? WRONG!! There was hair on the table and dried food on the salt and pepper shaker. I not only felt it I actually saw it and there was enough of it to photograph! Hmmm yeah no. Sorry but not sorry. I am NEVER coming back here again! $52 for two people is highway ROBBERY for this type and level of service. $4 for an iced tea and no refill! Probably could’ve gotten one except for the server never came back! And please understand I have NO PROBLEM paying for service. I had worked in the service industry for the majority of my life which is why I try to be patient and understanding. But THIS…… NOPE!
Although the staff was super nice I would give it a -10 if I could. I used to go there for breakfast all of the time and it was always excellent. Unfortunately I wasn't aware it was under new ownership. A friend I went for dinner and nothing on the menu looked appetizing so we stuck with burgers and fries. Halfway through my burger I began to itch so badly I thought I was going to have a HITCH moment. I immediately stopped eating and drank water. It finally subsided but it was AWFUL. I thought it was just me but then my friend texted that they were physically sick at 3am from the food!!! AWFUL... AND VERY DISAPPOINTED! DO NOT EAT THERE! It should have given us a clue when we walked in and it was completely empty at prime dinner time at 5:00pm :/
Service was pretty bad. We had to ask for them to attend us after they seated us.. We ordered the vegan eggs Benedicts, Benedict sauce was very sour, absolutely not like a traditional sauce. Spinach leafs looked not fresh. We politely asked to swap plate, and they agreed but still billed us the plate. Despite $4 refill coffee, we had to ask for refills. The other dish was ok.
