I ordered the side chicken $8, and soup $5.The chicken was very yummy and tender and the position was way bigger than I expected! The soup was very fresh and delicious. I can’t believe I only paid $13 for both items. It’s the cheapest lunch experience in San Francisco! And it’s SFMOMA!
Had lunch before viewing a special exhibit and waited six minutes to get to the counter to order. Seating was readily available nearby and our food came out quickly. The chicken salad was good with bits of citrus and dry noodles. Iced tea was fine and the gluten-free desserts were fine as well. Staff were excellent. We were fine with the overall vibe and decor with lots of natural light, hard surfaces in glass.
Spacious and beautiful environment. The coffees were delicious. Food quality were excellent. The quiche was moist and layered with flavors. Salad was fresh and enhanced greatly with appetizing dressing. It’s worth a stop between the gallery floors. The sculptures outside were interesting and picture perfect on a sunny afternoon. Updated 7-7-24: great Caesar chicken sandwich and ginger carrot soup. Outdoor seating with shades was very enjoyable on a breezy Monday afternoon.
Amazing food quality here! Indeed, it’s surprisingly good for a museum cafe! The seasonal soup made with kombucha (I think) was so rich in flavor and texture, it was just amazing, way beyond my expectation! The bread that came with the soup was also so warm and super tasty! Of course, the outdoor space and the view was beautiful!
We went there on New Year's Eve when it poured outside (2022). We had no choice but to have lunch here but the food was pretty good. Food comes out quickly, how they operate is pretty efficient, and the vibe is great. Wish it didn't rain so that we could enjoy outside as well.
Cafe 5 in San Francisco is a delightful coffee haven! The cafe mocha and cappuccino were rich and perfectly brewed, showcasing their commitment to quality. The presentation in cool crockery added a touch of elegance to the experience. The flourless chocolate cake was a decadent delight, a must-try for any chocolate lover. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff make Cafe 5 a must-visit for coffee and dessert aficionados.
Nice lunch at a reasonable price, out in the sunshine on the balcony with views of sculpture. Service was friendly and quick. Table service was friendly and efficient. It was just what I wanted, and a meal and drink (chicken sandwich and ice tea) at a nice cafe all for under $25. Will return.
Pretty Café with really nice outdoor seating. We got the Oolong perfume caramel aubeurresale tea & an oat milk latte. Cafe is located on the 5th floor. Took a few minutes to find.

Had a wonderful experience at Cafe 5 last week! The dark haired young woman with the hoop earrings at the register was super sweet. She recommended the chocolate hazelnut pastry (which was lovely!) and was very warm and helpful. Will definitely be coming back!
Had the delicious salmon rice bowl for lunch while visiting the museum. It was SOOO good I’ve been trying to copy it for my family after returning to Australia. Great quality food and beautifully made dishes. Thank you!
Nice big space, menu on cards as you enter. Some amazing choices. We had a salmon rice bowl and an oyster mushroom sandwich, both delicious and so tasty. Lots of choices.

Great ham and cheese croissant and incredible coffee. Well designed. Staff didn’t seem that happy, but other than that they have done a thoughtful job to make this nice.

We went to the Ruth Asawa exhibit at SFMoMA last Thursday and decided to have lunch at Cafe 5. We ordered the tofu and chicken salads and a slice of apple cake. All three were flavorful and fresh. You can eat inside or out on the roof patio. What a find. I would go back just for this restaurant.
May2025 Cafe in a museum with a minimalist cafeteria layout. In fairness, the cafe menu item standards were pretty creative and of good taste. Serving sizes were standard. Service is strictly counter The immediate interiors are bare while the al fresco area was more assuming due to the presence of some art installations. Tables can get filled up quickly due to the number of museum goers Ideal for light meals and quick bites.
Nice cafe with great a great vibe. Surprisingly good for a museum cafe, we enjoyed the experience! We only had Americano’s and the coffee cake. The coffee cake was ok, a bit dry and tasted more like a citrus cake. Wont order that again, but the other food looked good that came out of the kitchend.
It is ok for a coffee place in a Museum. Athmosphere is actually great, Service as well. Coffee was not so tasty, but it was good enough :)
Shockingly good for a museum cafe, with truly California touches like hot-smoked steelhead trout salad topped with German potato salad, served on plates that remind me of the Tartine Manufactory. Pastries such as the excellent croissant are from Craftsman and Wolves, an excellent local bakery. There's a view of an outdoor sculpture garden and the hard-to-see undulating white backside of the new building that you can't spot from the street.
The rooftop setting is definitely nice, the food is surprisingly great for a museum so keep it up in the kitchen and they only loose a star because of the attitude at the cashier.

Delightful place for lunch when visiting SFMOMA (admission to the mueseum is required to access Cafe 5). Butternut squash soup was excellent, Turkey and Brie sandwich was good and came with salad. Mushroom rigatoni was a tasty hearty meal. Excellent Illy cappuccino. Ordered at counter and food was delivered by number. Indoor and outdoor seating available. We went back for dessert after touring the mueseum.
Food top notch and no issues at all. A very healty menu and delicious too! I had the teryaki salmon rice bowl and it was maybe the best meal of my week in SF. Hubby had the lemongrass chicken salad. Again, top notch. Service is counter and reasonably friendly. Not a lot of atmosphere but spacious and a good experience. However, i will comment that they have top quality tea bags but are totally unable to make a decent cup of tea. Obvs to make the best brew, you do need a pot so no fault to staff for that. Take away cups are awful for tea, especially in a pricey café serving this great standard of food. But - to hand the customer a cup of hot water in one hand and a sealed tea bag in the other - what's that about?!!!! Only because the bag was high quality did i manage to turn that into tea!!! You could actually downgrade your bags if you make tea how it should be made. Water on a rolling boil poured direct onto bag. In a pot for best results but into a mug works too. And milk in a jug on the side. Always. Unless the customer asks for black. I had to get my own jug and go back to the counter for milk.

I visited yesterday during Sunday lunch. The food was expensive but delicious. However, in this self-order system, the young woman with long black hair at the counter was extremely rude and unhelpful, which made the whole experience uncomfortable. I hope management can address this so all customers are treated respectfully.
