Okonomi Brooklyn Reviews
My favorite local sushi spot in Williamsburg! Very reliable take out and delivery (haven't dined in yet). Always polite and fast service. I don't normally write reviews but they exceeded my expectations on a delivery order today. I added a note to my GrubHub order asking them for more fresh rice because the last time I ordered it was a bit too dry for my taste. They called me to make sure I was taken care of. Got my delivery in 15 minutes and everything was delicious! Ordered 3 roll, 2 roll, and uni hand roll today! Yum!
I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo today, and honestly it might be one of the freshest sushi meals I’ve ever had. Everything tasted super fresh and high-quality. The delivery was quick too. I’ve been a regular for a while now, and you guys always take good care of your customers. Thank you!
This sushi restaurant truly stands out as one of the best and freshest I have ever experienced. The quality of the fish is exceptional, and the prices are very reasonable for the level of excellence provided. Their omakase is my absolute favorite — creative, unique, and beautifully prepared.
I got amazing takeout from here tonight! Their crispy rice is delicious, I loved their dim sum sampler and their omakase box is so good!!! Their scallop is SO GOOD and I loved the sweet shrimp and ikura ! This is a great takeout
I recently had the pleasure of ordering delivery from Sushi Yoshi, and it quickly became one of my favorite sushi spots. If you're a sushi lover, this place is an absolute must-visit. First off, the portions here are huge! Every dish we ordered was generously sized and beautifully presented. The quality of the food is top-notch, and you can really taste the freshness in every bite. I highly recommend the salmon avocado roll – it's incredibly well-made with fresh, buttery salmon and creamy avocado that perfectly complements each other. Another standout was the egg yolk buns; they were delightfully rich and unique, making for a perfect ending to the meal. Overall, Sushi Yoshi exceeded all my expectations. With its huge portions, superbly made dishes, and fantastic service, it’s a sushi lover’s paradise. Whether you're in the mood for classic rolls or something a bit different like the egg yolk buns, this place has got you covered. Don't miss out on this gem!
Amazing sushi! Our go to takeout spot now. They put a lot of care in packaging the order every time. The food is amazing, my go appetizer is the crystal shrimp dumpling and they do NOT skimp on the shrimp it is jam packed. The Omakase Sashimi is beautifully packaged and tastes fresh. It was really fun to test new types of sashimi. It also tastes really good the cucumber roll with roe was my fave. Definitely give this place a try, it’s worth it.
Ordered delivery for the second time, both times superb: very fresh ingredients, expertly prepared, the best sushi I've had it quite some time, and they sent tasty complimentary mochi ice cream to boot.
We just ordered delivery for the first time and the sushis are absolutely amazing, fresh and delicious! They also surprised us with a mochi and we loved it.
4/2/2024 Edit: The quality has deteriorated the past 3 times I ordered. They’ve started to become stingy with the Osakase Set. They either replace the salmon roe with something cheaper, or replace the rolls with something cheaper. Disappointing. Original Review: This is possibly the best sushi I’ve had in the US. So fresh and absolutely amazing quality. I didn’t know it was possible to get sushi of this quality at this price outside of Japan.
We ordered five sushi platters from Sushi Yoshi for a 40-person event, and everything was absolutely perfect. The sushi was super fresh, beautifully presented, and arrived right on time with all the sauces and extras we needed. The platters were well organized and visually stunning, and everyone at the event commented on how delicious the sushi was. We’ll definitely be ordering from Sushi Yoshi again for future events and highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality catering and reliable service.
This is super high quality Sushi! The guys that run it are so nice and generous. Great presentation on my sashimi box and they even threw in some free mochi.
Very delicious! Their omakase is consistently excellent, and the price is truly reasonable compared to other restaurants. The fish is absolutely fresh every time.
Fresh sushi, and the omakase platter is my absolute favorite — everything was unique and incredibly fresh. The delivery was also much faster than I expected, arriving in just 30 minutes, even though we live quite far away. Overall, a wonderful experience and I’ll definitely be ordering again!
Small spot maybe about 8-12 seats max, reservation is recommended without waiting too long. Very delicious spot, they pay attention to temperatures and textures here. If you're a foodie or a gourmet you be pleasantly surprised. Food is between $30-50 depending on if you get add ons, the quality of the food felt worth the price.
Finally got to try this spot. Truly enjoyed food, service, and the atmosphere. They serve Japanese home cooked meal that makes you feel cozy inside. We went for a dinner on a Sunday evening. Reservation is definitely hard to get since they have small dining space. But it felt intimate and it was nice not yelling across the table to talk to people. My husband and I felt satisfied after the meal—we got the large breakfast. The choice of winter greens on this plate was complementary to the fish they served that evening (miso marinated mackerel). Miso soup had a pleasant note of smokiness. They give you good amount of soup and rice too. We’ll be returning in the future for sure.
Great atmosphere, attentive and personal service, and food that exceeded any expectations. Really a great time. Do note that, at least for this location, they do not have the ramen menu of YUJI as they previously may have, and their menu is limited to breakfast sets, a couple add-ons, some specials, and a drink menu. They continuously will steep tea for you at your table. Highly recommend, we will be returning.
First time being here, I like the atmosphere, this place is very comfortable for those who like to sit by themselves and/or talk to new people. The food is delicious, I'm generally a big eater so I thought the portions were too small but in actuality it is very satisfactory. The server, "Trinity" was kind and explains nicely on the recommended way to eat the meal (I hope I did it as properly as they recommended it). I'm glad I treated myself to this location, I spoke to a customer right next to me and she told that she comes here regularly so surely they seem to be quite consistent in their game. I definitely recommend this spot.
Food 4/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambiance 3.5/5 Okonomi serves a traditional Japanese breakfast for $30-$38. The experience is intimate, with only 12 seats, so reservations are a must. Don't expect to leave completely full, as the portions are on the smaller side, but it's definitely a unique experience. I enjoyed the miso salmon, but found the pollock a bit dry and underseasoned. It seems the fish quality can vary, as my friend's pollock was juicier.
This cosy restaurant is a gem. The food was simple, fresh and prepared beautifully. Every details was well thought out - from the tea leaves to the different wasabi for the appetizer (sashimi that melted in our mouth), to the exquisite black cod. We could have asked for their playlist as well, which added to the cosy vibes, great service. My friend described it as being a guest in someone’s house and being pampered with delicious food. The chef threw in a slice of cantaloupe and a zesty, refreshing iced ‘thingy’ at the end, on the house. Though the place was small, it wasn’t loud or too quiet. Just really comfortable … we’ll be back.
Literally writing this before we’ve even left. DO NOT MISS WHEN A RES POPS UP HERE. Unbelievably delightful, start to finish. No decision fatigue, you get to watch things being made (sit at the counter 😌), great sake, and service attentive and kind but nowhere near overdone. If you’re hungry, do the large platter. And if they have a sashimi app, DO IT. You won’t regret it. Some of the freshest, cleanest fish I’ve had in a while. Such a beautiful experience in the chaos of a rapidly changing Williamsburg. 12/10!!!
Tucked away in a cozy little space, this Japanese eatery feels like a hidden gem. Every dish is crafted with such care — not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes, each plate like a small work of art. The warm smiles and thoughtful service make the experience even more memorable. A place that lingers in the heart — I’ll surely find my way back again.
I get takeout order from Sushi Yoshi. Hamachi Serrano is good with interesting Yuzu dressing. I also get Sashimi Appertizer it is 9 pcs sashimi of chef choice so it default to ordinary 3 fishes that every sushi place use; Tuna, Salmon and Hamachi which is I don't mind. The restaurant is budget friendly and mostly take out.
Delivery only. For takeout sushi/sashimi in NYC goes, this is the best one can get! I usually won't order sushi for delivery or takeout for quality concern. But I really wanted a light and healthy meal after another dreaded biz trip in SF. In comfy pajamas :) Took a chance on Yoshi while riding Uber home. And I was pleasantly surprised when the sushi/sashimi omakase arrived. It was well packaged in a paper box instead of a cheap looking plastic tray. Quality and quantity were great. Along with the seaweed salad, less than $50 bucks, at least 30% cheaper than the cheapest omakase one could get at a legitimate Japanese restaurant. Why not? Will reorder!
Placed an order for pickup. They must have moved location because the pictures of the stores are different. Ordered shrimp tempura rolls and they were good. However, there is no sign on the door so finding the entrance was a bit confusing. Not sure if they’re still in the processing of opening or renovating. When I opened the door, I was met with empty stares from the 2 workers by the door with no greetings and the area by the door was messy so I wasn’t sure if I was at the right restaurant.
I was looking forward to a new sushi spot on the block, the food was good, but when the check came there was an "Operational Fee" added before the tax, an extra $1.89, ( the cost of my food was $36.95, ) When I asked what an "Operational Fee" was for, my server hesitated and said - 'its a fee for restaurant operations..' After I replied that I'd never heard of one of those anywhere else - he said 'ok ok I take it off for you...' I did a bit of research when I got home, Junk fees of any sort are illegal in NYC, no "operational" fees, no "administrative" fees are allowed to be added after the fact. It also had nothing to do with Credit Card fees, by law they need to be included in the listed price on the menu. and I was paying cash anyway... I hate to leave a negative review of a new business, but if you're going to eat here - CHECK YOUR BILL !!!
3 stars because I used to love sushi yoshi and would get it 1-2x a week living nearby! the past 3 times i’ve gotten it the quality seems worse / more fishy / more mushy. not sure if they changed vendors but I tried 3 different times and each recent batch was not it
japanese is my favorite cuisine and I love simple, ingredient forward dishes. Having said that I feel like good japanese restaurants are very detail oriented and take great care in their choice of rice (both in terms of quality and taste) and I noticed this was not the case here. The fish also tasted a tad unfresh. The meal definitely gave a home cooked feel, but the lack of attention to detail for the price and what they seemed to be going for did not make this experience worth it for me.
Decent flavor profile but overpriced for the amount of food. The fish was about 2-3 oz (so roughly a half serving compared to the average restaurant fish portion), and the sides (which were maybe a couple spoonfuls each) cost $4 each. Worth trying once if you've never had Japanese "teishoku" before, but if you have, especially if you've had this kind of meal in Japan, this might feel disappointing in comparison.
Really gross. Ordered tuna crispy rice and was given one small drop of cooked tuna on oily fried rice. Really let down and had to throw it out. Order was from DoorDash. The Kano salad looked artificial as well.
kind of upset bc was looking forward to ordering after so many good reviews… i had the omakase platter and it was like 2 nigiris and 4pcs of a cut rolls. its under half the size of what it usually is??? like no expensive fish either that the menu or other reviewers showed, it was just a salmon nigiri and some white fish ???? for 40$+. they do just cut corners on cost where they can: giving less when possible, letting things go old, etc. i took a bite of my uni hand roll and it was so not fresh it tasted like old feet. the way they play with pricing depending on platform and how you order too is like very obvious that they care alot about tweaking everything to protect their margins.
