This rustic tavern is cozy, the food is delicious and the staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. I'm gluten free, and our waitress was happy to answer questions and provide recommendations. Would highly recommend, and the drive is beautiful!
Great menu with a wide variety. Every meal I've had here had been delicious. Especially love their burgers (the Postenkill... OMG), ribs, and crab cake sandwich. If you have room, the homemade carrot cake is phenomenal!
The mozzarella sticks had a good seasoning to the breading. The pizza tasted really good also and is better than most of the pizzas I can think of. The Clydesdale burger is a monster and came out perfectly cooked medium rare, just how I asked for it. Our waitress was very kind and had a smile on the whole night. We waited a bit for the food, as is to be expected when they are crowded. Been there twice and both times we had a great expirence
Get their wings!!! They are to die for!!! I cannot eat wings anywhere else after having these! My favorite is buffalo garlic parm, but they're all so good! Smokey and juicy! Can you beat that? Always good service and always amazing food, even other than the wings. Good drinks too! Just make sure you get a reservation on the weekends! Otherwise, you're in for quite the wait.
One of the best little hidden gems I love this tavern always had an amazing meal and service every time I've been there the wings were some of the best in the area brisket sandwich was great. They have alot of choices on there menu but I recommend the barbeque. The beer selection is very good highly recommend this place I drive an hour every time for and we'll worth it
Thanks to our waitress today. Amy? I can't remember name. She was flying solo. Smile on her face, patience with customers....she was awesome!
Very good wings, sandwiches and beer selection. I wish it were closer to my house, in which case I'd be there often.
A real cozy place with some amazing food. Everything tastes homemade. Staff is super polite and attentive. I love coming here for a filling meal (portions are excellent). Be prepared to wait on the weekends- they get super busy, but for good reason.
Food and service are awesome as are the prices. The prime rib has to be the best in the area and the stuffed jalapeños are all homemade no frozen stuff from a food supplier. It's off the beaten path but worth the trip!
Tonight was my first, but certainly not my last time at The Towne Tavern, I had a great time. The atmosphere was interesting and fun. The staff was great, shout out to Maya our server and Val the manager. The entertainment was great! Katie Louise had the crowd singing along and even kept the show going when the power went out when she unplugged her guitar and walked into the crowd while performing!
Love it. Excellent BBQ and great wings. Big menu; something for everyone. There are cheap quick eats as well as more expensive full meals. It's our go to place. It's crowded most of the time so be prepared.
The wings are probably the best in upstate NY. I only say "probably" because I haven't had every chicken wing served from Albany to Buffalo. Until then, this is my go to place for wings. Smoked then fried and generously sauced and served with real blue cheese dressing, I'm hungry just thinking about it. Get the Buff-Gar-Parm and see for yourself.
Best brisket I’ve had since I was at Coopers in Austin Texas. Big portion, mashed potatoes and baked beans were on point. Cool atmosphere and courteous service.
After seeing Towne Tavern recommended for excellent wings multiple times, we finally stopped down. The restaurant is country and cozy, filled with warm light and welcoming staff. We ordered two varieties of wings, Buffalo garlic Parm and Jack Daniel's bbq. I was already getting my hopes up when the server asked what level of heat I wanted for the buffalo part of the buffalo garlic parm. The wings were extremely crispy and also absolutely smothered in sauce. Both sauces were delicious, and every single wing was crisp. We also ordered salads, and they were just darn good salads. Can't wait to make this local treasure a regular stop. Have to try all the sauces!
So grateful to the manager and to our server Dillon (Dylan?). We had not made a reservation since we expected to be only 3 or 4 people for an early dinner around 4 pm and did not expect any problems. We ended up a group of 9 (!) on a Sunday afternoon, without a reservation. The hosts accommodated us without batting an eye and without any complaints. Our indomitable server handled separate checks, changes in seating and the general chaos without any problems. We hope to never put an establishment through such challenges again :) Thank you very very much!
The wings are wonderful and the vibe is classic Americana
A very interesting place and nicely decorated. Food was awesome both trips here and the wait staff were excellent being attentive, helpful and courteous. Food takes a bit of time to arrive but is definitely worth the wait. The barbecue was to die for and their sauces were incredible. Definitely highly recommend.
Excellent food, menu & beer selection. my opinion: best restaurant in the area. they always have great specials. Tuesday is liver night and its awesome. prime rib weekends. I had the duck last night and it was the best thing I've eaten in some time. I was gonna go back for more today but it was one night only. I hope they do that special again.
This is my favorite place in the area. The food is consistently very good. The beer selection is very good and, if you're at the bar, the pretzel mix, popcorn, and peanuts add a nice snack while you're waiting. My only complaint is that it gets crazy busy! This, understandably, slows down the staff a bit but they should be better able to accommodate the crowds. Hands down, this place has the best wings around! They utilize a smoker to initially slow cook the wings before flash frying them.
We went here to get wings because we heard they were good. They were saucy and crispy and delicious! The hot wings are actually hot! So much so we couldn't finish our last 4 wings. We asked for a small box and wrapped them up. When we left I realized we forgot the small box! I ran back in but they had just thrown it away. Here's the best part of the story- they INSISTED on making us another half an order, they said it would only take a few minutes. I said no-it's really not a problem but they did it anyway. That experience alone makes me want to return again soon. Thanks again for an awesome meal and experience!
Cute tavern. Homey environment. Staff very friendly and efficient. They ate hard workers. Restaurant clean, tables sanitized not just wiped with a wet cloth. Food was great had chicken fajitas and reuben sandwich. Portions huge. I highly recommend this tavern.
1st time there today as no one else in the area is open on a Monday. I'll definitely be back, too. Gentlemen behind the bar was friendly, professional, and a pleasure to be around. The prices are fair, and the food is good. Love it
My wife and I stopped by last weekend for our first time. I must say we were impressed. So much that we’re gonna be stopping by again today. The food was hot and fresh. I will leave another review after today’s visit. As promised another review. The food and service was excellent. Absolutely fantastic. I can’t say enough good about this place. Top notch all the way
We really enjoyed our lunch. We had an order of there chicken wings which were outstanding. Just the right amount of smoke. The pizza was delicious but I wouldn’t recommend the caramelized onions. They have a great selection of draft beer.
This one of my favorite places to have snacks, dinner, and drinks. I travel a fair amount and always look forward to coming back here. The company of the "regulars" and the staff is always welcoming, friendly and personable. Overall, I'm impressed and humbled by the patrons here. Wonderfull, caring, peope. The food is always tasty and consistently made. I look forward to the uniques specials. The tavern does get busy at times, and sometimes it's good to be patient with the staff. I appreciate that the bar area stays open for awhile after the kitchen closes. Tonights (Wednesday) bartender, Bri, was very attentive with all the patrons, and a pleasure to talk with. I can say the same about all the staff I've met here over the years.
Love stopping in afternoons to visit with George and have a drink before heading home. He always has a story and a joke for us. Sometimes get lunch or an early dinner, always good.
Excellent service excellent food, so this review was 7 years ago just went tonight and I thought Bianca was an excellent server, today I had Abby so from a person that has trained servers and has dined at alot of restaurants I have to say not only is she stunning her service skills are top notch. She said Bianca trained her ! The owner must be a very smart man this is only restaurant I have ever seen the option of getting just flats or drumsticks, and even the skin was delicious and crispy. Keep up the great work you rock!
Food was great! Service was lacking... Never checked back with our dinner. Wings came sauced when I asked for on the side. Maybe just inexperience?
The place is super cute, servers very friendly. Very little to choose from for lunch, and everything I ordered (Pastrami Sandwich and Wings) was disgusting. They use liquid smoke and go overboard with it. Chef Salad was FANTASTIC.. And their blue cheese dressing was very good.
Always great, fresh, tasty, and prepared exactly the way you expect it. Great draft taps and cocktail options. Some of the best wings in Capitaland (smoked, then fried).
Skied Jiminy and on the way back, required sustenance for my wife, 5yo, and me. I am so glad that my wife found this place. It was a weeknight so luckily we were seated immediately. They have a great selection of draft and bottled beer to start. The wings said they were famous and we can see why, they are absolutely insane. Being smoked then fried gives an incredible texture and the homemade Bleu cheese was great. For entrees, I got the club sandwich and my wife got a burger. Typical pub fare right? Wrong. I've never been intimidated by a sandwich before. This thing was absolutely towering with turkey, ham, bacon and the dressings. Her burger was the West Sand Laker, topped with fried pickles. The kid got chicken fingers, and as described they are really big. Dessert had to happen for reasons so we all split the lemon berry mascarpone cake and some ice cream. Also knocked it out of the park. I don't recall our servers name but she was delightful and very helpful. Service was very attentive too, I don't think a used plate or glass was on the table for 30 seconds before it was cleared. We're already planning to come back to try the buffalo garlic parm wings and a pizza.
Awesome wings. Service was great as well. Loved the decor. If you are near here you gotta go
Great Beer Selection! Eat at the Bar if you can!
I'm a wicked wing snow and I usually don't love smoked wings but these were unreal. Very close to being in my top 5 all time favorites. I got the medium buffalo garlic parm and they aren't too spicy but flavor was fantastic. Next time I go, I will try the hot.
Decided to stop in on our way through town last Monday. Restaurant was filled but were able to get a high top with no wait. Tried the chicken and shrimp pasta per our server Dillon’s recommendation, and it was fantastic! Service was excellent! We will definitely be back soon.
For my birthday, we decided to check this place out. I've always heard they had great BBQ, and yes, they certainly do! All dry rub, but there are 5 homemade sauces offered. "Kansas City" style was standard sauce, recommended for less adventurous folk. "Carolina" led with mustard and vinegar, as it should. "Maple Bourbon " was too sweet for my taste. "Jack Daniels" was spiciest, but not overwhelmingly so. That was my favorite, followed by Carolina. I had Texas Beef Brisket, wife had half rack of ribs. Both were excellent and come with a choice of two from a long list of sides. Definitely recommend smashed potatoes and the best onion rings I've had in a long time. Good selection of micro brews on tap, mostly from the region. Service was excellent, with helpful suggestions and a watchful eye on our progress. The place is an old blacksmith shop from late 1800s, I believe. Some gas fixtures are still in place. Fun sayings appear on posts and rafters. Surprisingly busy for a later weeknight visit. It was very loud until we were nearly through with our late dinner, when most of the crowd had left. Everyone seemed to be having a good time!
Love this place! We drive 40 mins just to go here. I had the Rachel with sweet potato fries and it was huge and delicious. I had to take half of it home. The portion of turkey on the sandwich was more than gracious! We also had the wings, stuffed jalapeño peppers, chicken quesadilla and their Dubliner sandwich on special. Everything was SO good!
We were there on Sunday to celebrate my husband birthday. The chicken parm was burnt. There was hardly any food, for $25.00 per plate and it was very noisy. Don't think we will be returning.
Usually our go place for wings and pizza. We were not disappointed with the wings and the pizza was the best yet. The only reason for 4 stars is that they forgot the chicken on the pizza and the waitress never came to check on us. They did credit us for the missing item.
First time visit for lunch and it was really good. Menu has a lot to choose from and there were daily specials. It was an unexpected great lunch! I'd go back again. Our waitress was especially nice.
Went the night before Thanksgiving and the service was great, especially for how busy it was. I got the Cuban, which was good but not spectacular. It had all the right elements, but it seemed rushed. The pulled pork was bland and the ham was cut a little too thick, plus the cheese was way too thick so it didn't melt. My fiance got the West Sand Lake burger and absolutely loved it. We also got the potato pancakes (which were closer to fast food hash browns than potato pancakes) and the corn fritters and both were spectacular. Also, I noticed that the bartender fills pints of beer too much. While normally I wouldn't consider this a problem, it caused my server to spill the beer when trying to set it down on the table and I saw three other instances with my server and one other server spilling beers as they walked because they were too full. Everything was reasonably priced and we will definitely be coming back.
The menu is top notch and I'd be happy to give 5 stars, but the last time we went, the service was, unfortunately, lacking. I might have just gotten an off waiter because every other time, it was amazing all around. This is the perfect place for mommy and daddy to enjoy a beverage in an adult setting while the kids are entertained by the animals all over the walls and the family atmosphere. It's the perfect mix for our family of 4 and we go here often. Cheers!
I would give it slightly higher than a 4 for the wings alone. The wings are fantastic and the only reason I actual go there. They are somehow juicy inside with a nice crisp exterior even though they come swimming in their own sauce. The flavor options are plentiful and so so good. However the service I received today was terrible. Out of 4 of us only 1 got the right beer order and they completely forgot our order of 4x4 wings....which we would have mentioned if our server Courtney had come back at all and asked us how everything was. Hopefully if you decide to give them a chance you get better service.
Cozy, popular and energized BBQ and comfort food tavern. Sits along a creek with an outdoor deck and indoor seating. Inside is cozy and feels like a wilderness retreat in Montana. Lots of warm Wood and animal life decor. Many BBQ and smoked items. The brisket moves fast and can sell out. Ribs come out with a rub and 4 sauces are offered to choose. The ribs are tender and have just enough bite not overly cooked. the smoked wings are very good. The staff was friendly and attentive. The bar is lively and was packed at 7pm on a Thursday.
Towne Tavern is usually pretty consistent. I tend to usually go for the 1/2 Chicken or the King of Clubs. The chicken used to be my favorite but this last time was a little off both in seasoning and sectioning... My half chicken was composed of 2 legs... I guess that's 1/2 a chicken - the bottom half! There really was only 1 of 4 BBQ sauces I enjoyed as well (spicy Jack Daniels was like doing a shot - way too hot). Next time it'll be the King of Clubs.
You can look for better wings in a 30 mile radius, but you won't find any better than here.
Very nice, small town place. Great food and ambiance.
Loud and crowded. Bar packed with loud drunks and I mean LOUD. Ine lady you could have heard 2 miles away. The brisket was thin sliced which I'd never seen before. The sauces are weird. Be careful to taste them before putting on your food.
Food is always good. Focus is sometimes on the bar and not the diners. Been visiting since they opened.
Great for wings and homemade soups. The menu is kinda hit or miss but mostly good. Homemade dressings and sauces too. I never get cell phone service inside which can be annoying!
Great food. The service had been so slow that we stopped going. I visited twice within a few days, and the service wasn't an issue. The wait staff was very friendly and on top of their game. The fish nugget appetizer was so good I want to use it as the photo for our next Christmas card. Don't like fish? Don't like nuggets? What is wrong with you? Try it. Don't give me that look. Get out of your comfort zone. That's why she left you.
Great pub in Averill Park. Mind the parking lot flow and be prepared to smell the great meats being cooked as you head for the front door. We were seated promptly and looked over the menu and specials as we took in the decor. Abigail took good care of us, the food was great (especially the Taberton burger and Caprese Panini) and I'm sure we will be back when we are in the area.
Service, sweet potatoes fries, wings, and strawberry margarita were outstanding. Burger was very over cooked. No glass offered for my husbands beer. Reuben sandwich bread was petrified. Left under lights we are sure. Corned beef was very good. Hard to come back cause looks like food has these issues. We came for an early dinner, so I am but sure if these issues are better or worse once the place fills up and dinner is in full swing. Give it a try.
Great beer selection, ordered the stuffed jalapenos for an app, only 3 small jalapenos cut into halves for $10, not worth it. Also got the West Sand Laker burger, for 10.99. The fried pickles are halves and are too thick for the burger. Ordered burger medium, came out well done. For those reasons I give 3 stars.
Got take out. Decor and staff amazing. Hostess was eager to please (3☆). Ordered the Reuben, well done. Dressing , rye bread and sauerkraut very good, corn beef was not so great. Bread was lightly toasted and not well done. I've had some really great Reubens which usually has the leaner trimmed meat (flat cut). Their corn beef had a very high content of fat (probably the point cut) which ruins the sandwich in my opinion. A little amount is ok but when you bite into it and half fat/half meat pulls out with your first bite its just wrong. Maybe I should have asked for it to be trimmed but for a first time patron I didn't want to presume. The reviews I read recommended the Reuben as well as the order taker on the phone. Unless they're prepared to trim it, I wouldn't recommend this sandwich from this establishment. Will return to try something else in the future, the dining room looked clean and comfortable, may even bring the family along.
Our first here Wed 2/16/22 6pm with relatives who are local and the Towne Tavern is one of their go to places. Rustic setting along side of a creek. We had reservations for four for dinner. Good thing we had a reservation because this place is packed with locals every evening. Full bar & full tables. Seem to have enough staff. We were seated within five minutes. Waitress (missed name, school teacher) took our drink orders. a little slow from the bartender, but not a problem for us. One drink was incorrect but quickly fixed. Full bar offers 23 beers in bottles & cans, 7 regular & other rotating craft beers, 25 wines, N/As, and sodas. Towne Tavern leads w/ their in house dry rubbed smoked ribs & brisket. Wed is BBQ rib night - $1.50ea. They come to the table dry w/ four choices of their house BBQ sauces. We ordered six ahead of our dinners - pretty good. Baked haddock dinner served w/ salad & rice($20) was very good, but my bride didn't care for the flavored rice. Our local friends had their go to sandwiches - beef brisket ($12.50) & a reuben ($12). As this was my first visit I wanted to try something new to me. So I tried this house specialty soup - Picante Onion Soup Our Signature - A southwestern twist on a French classic, a rich tomato and Beef based broth chock full of caramelized onions topped with a crisp crouton and Jalapeno Pepper Jack cheese, browned under the broiler $6.99. Certainly different, but in my opinion, this hybrid didn't combine the best of either soup. My dinner was the special - Towne Tavern's Cincinnati style chili ($18) - this is a beef chili made w/ a mole sauce served over spaghetti topped w/ meted cheese. A very good mole that was hidden under way too much cheese. But the mole was a winner. Current hours: Monday, Wednesday through Sunday: Lunch 11:30 am - 4:00 pm Dinner 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm Bar open 11:30 am - 11:00 pm or later *Closed on Tuesdays Reservations are highly recommended. So for our first visit it was a good recommendation by our local hosts. We will visit again soon for a second review. Thank you. Nick & Liz, Albany, NY 2nd visit 4/14/23 We went to our brother's favorite watering hole for their anniversary on Fri 4/14/23 for dinner. Busy night but we didn't have to wait long for our table on the deck. Our server was Caitlin and she brought menus and took our drink orders. Full bar w/ a good selection of local craft beers. Open 7 days a week 11:30am-9:pm. See website for their regular daily specials. Wed's special is in-house smoked pork ribs that come w/ their 4 house bbq sauces - $1.50ea. They are excellent. The Towne Tavern offers a wide variety of pub grub - smoked wings, build-your-own pizza, burgers, hot & cold sandwiches from $11-16, And a large selection of dinner entrees from $18-25, steaks $27-30. Sister-in-law had usual 1/2 rack St. Louis style bbq ribs w/ 2 sides ($22.59) w/ the four bbq sauce choices. Sweet, sticky, sloppy just the way they should be eaten. My bride had the baked haddock w/ cracker crumb topping w/ rice pilaf & veg ($21.59). Well prepared & hot to the table. I had their unique picante french onion soup-tomato & beef broth stock ($7.50) and the "Mom's Meatloaf sandwich w/pepper jack on a ciabatta roll ($13). I think it maybe more that just ground chuck, brisket maybe? Very good w/ the addition of their spicy Jack Daniel's bbq sauce. I missed writing down what brother had but he demolished it LOL. The owner came by to say hello to the "regulars" after the dinner rush was over. And to thank them for their steady patronage. A nice evening out at very comfortable neighborhood tavern. Thank you. Nick & Liz Albany, NY and your neighbors Chris & Liz F in W. S. L.
The food was good but the experience leading up to finally getting our food was so bad that we were talking about leaving just seconds before our food came. We were camping in the area and only decided to visit because of the special aired on the news. We came for BBQ but were told it was only available after 4pm although the menu stated it was available all day. Disappointed, we chose other items from the menu and then had to wait almost 45 minutes for it to come - a simple sandwich and personal pizza. We sat there watching as numerous people whom all arrived after we had ordered got their food. One couple actually ate then left before we got our food. The waitress was friendly but the food alone is not enough to bring us back.
We had pizza, wings, and salad. We had several pizzas and they were good except they were inconsistently cooked. Some were cooked to the right consistency, some were a little over cooked. Nice place though. I would go there again to try again.
Not overly impressed with the food. My burger which was supposed to be med-well was charred and crunchy on the outside. I expected the deep fried dill pickles to be sliced not whole dill spears. Their home made chips were ok.
After an initially poor experience here over a year ago, we decided to give them another try with their bbq offerings on a Sunday. The sides portions were generous although the corn taste (canned??) was off. Good bbq beans. We had ribs and 1/2 chicken. Chicken was a very tiny one. The taste of the seasoning on the chicken was distasteful; we rubbed off as much as we could. The ribs were dry. Sauce was presented on the side so you could slather it on as wanted, not grilled onto meat. For over $50, we were disappointed!
Had my first disappointing meal. I ordered the ham and Swiss cheese sandwich special. I asked for American cheese. When the sandwich came out, it was mostly cheese with one slice of ham. Especially compared with my friends pastrami sandwich sandwich which had a decent amount of meat.
Phoned and made a reservation. Drove 45 mins on recommendation. Wish I hadn't. Table tucked out of the way, waited for a while and had to ask for a menu. Got water then beer ordered, then waited at least 15 minutes for the guy (think it was the owner) to come and take the order. When the beers came, he slopped all over the table no apology and no cloth....really!! Food was almost thrown at us. It was tasty though, but we couldn't wait to leave. Asked for the bill and that took 10 minutes. The guy spent most of the time talking to a table of about 8 people who called him by his first name. Obviously locals. I think if you are a tourist or passing through don't go here. Seems like a private club.
The good part of this visit was the beer was cold. I ordered Picante Onion Soup and 10 wings with honey chipotle sauce to go. The soup had absolutely no broth. There were large hunks of unmelted pepper jack cheese on top of two large pieces of bread, a bunch of onions underneath with no broth. The wings were yesterday’s wings as far as I’m concerned. They were cold and tasteless. The honey chipotle was ok. I previously have had very good meals at this establishment, but tonight they fell short.
Took a ride today to seek out this Tavern. I was there a few years ago. Love the decor and comfortable atmosphere. I had a cup of red pepper soup which was yummy! I ordered a corned beef on rye which came with fresh made chips. Well, I'm really not one to complain or send food back, but this lunch was inedible. The "fresh made" potato chips were deep fried in old grease...on the verge of tasting rancid. The corned beef was fatty, dry, and basically tasteless, except for the mustard. I'd say it was old. The rye bread was stale and fell apart after first bite. I just couldn't push my way thru it. The server came over after a bit and I told her. She was very nice and sympathetic. She offered to get me something else. I declined. I was trying to get the taste of the chips out of my mouth with my soda. I don't know if I will go back...it wasn't just one thing that was bad.... 2 stars for the soup and the server.
The seating has been a nightmare the last time couple of times we have been here. Open tables and people standing in the lobby waiting to even be acknowledged for 15 min. We finally were seated after people in front of us complaining. Drinks took another 15 -20 min to get. Then about the same to take the order. My burger was raw, my husband had to eat his steak with a butter knife, we all had our food 20 min before my mother in law. They said they were waiting on chips for hers. And she didn’t even get chips with it when it came out. So busy that service suffered as a result. Every time we tried to tell the waitress something she dropped an item we asked for and didn’t even hear we were trying to tell her something . Never once asked if we were ok and we needed anything . Very disappointed
Great food if you only order "bar" food. Great wings and pasta.. Italian dishes are HORRIBLE. Wife got chicken parm and I got the Ruben... mine was tolerable but I eat everything, snake, gater , liver etc. Chicken parm was terrible. Wife took two bites and lost appetite. They took off the bill but still..........
Really gone downhill in the last year, unfortunately. Overcooked, very dry BBQ menu items. Serving grape jelly with stuffed jalapeños and passing it off as Melba sauce. Not great. Wait staff, 5 stars. Food quality, 2.
Tough here ... pizza, wings, and stuffed jalapenos had. Jalaps halved with hardly any filling ... 5 TINY halves for $12 ? 2/10. Wings (hot) good but really just Frank's red hot which isn't HOT at all. Add some things to your hot sauce (custom), crispy though as asked for. 4.5/10 Pizza: got TURBO crust with fresh jalapenos n ' fresh (red) onion. Crust is JUST LIKE unrolled can of pizza dough at the market. With corn meal on it ... ZERO salt throughout the slice, tasteless !!! Do not offer garlic either (just RP flakes and flavorless wood pulp parm) needed and big deletion IMHO. Get fresher HOME MADE dough !!! Pizza 3/10. It is Averill Park/West Sand Lake so no need to get better as there is NO competition in this sieve portion of Rentler County. PS trying a warmed up slice for brunch as I type and somehow the pizza has LESS flavor.
Towne Tavern is right up the road, but I personally feel its quality has gone downhill. They're cult following keeps them going. Good place to meet friends for a few drinks, but convenience is the only reason I go back. The food prices have gone up and the quality has gone way down. They always have friendly staff, and good drink options but it seems they're struggling to find a decent cook in recent years.
Everything is very good, service, food, ambiance, patrons, drinks. Make a reservation ahead for dinner. Best roast beef sandwich I’ve eaten in years! Update: Aug.27, ‘23. Quality has slid downhill on all fronts. Will not return anytime soon. When you have to apologize to your out of town family for the food, the wait, and the seating (had a reservation) then it’s not worth the time or money for a repeat.
Overall the experience was mediocre. Some of the pros are the ambiance, menu size (large with lots of variety) delicious smoked and fried wings and tasty pulled pork. Some of the cons are the price of the wings (over $2 per wing), poorly sauced wings (one order was hardly sauced while the other was literally swimming in sauce),beer selection was large but I did not feel it was very diverse, and lastly some of the worst pizza I have had in NY. The pizza is advertised as thin crispy crust but in reality the crust bottom is absurdly soggy and I felt that the ingredients were sub par quality. Finally they advertise their beef brisket as Texas style and I can only assume that they have never had real Texas brisket. Their version has decent flavor but is sliced thin as if with a deli slicer and then they must leave it to sit under a heat lamp succeeding in drying out any moisture. Unfortunately for me the cons outweigh the pros and I will likely not return.
We arrived around 8:15pm on a Saturday night (10.14) because a favorite musician was performing till 11. Since there was no host at the door, we took a seat at the bar. There were 6 people sitting at the bar at the time. It took 15 minutes before we were acknowledged by the bartender who was talking with patrons who were sitting at the bar eating food and enjoying beverages. We almost left and would have, if not for the live musician. When we finally were served our pints, we stated that we wanted to order something. She left to talk with other patrons and never came back till after 9, and then it was too late to order food. She was so blatantly rude, we could not believe it. We will not be going back and it reinforced why it took us so long to visit the Town Tavern again. Unless you are a regular customer, don't bother going if you want proper service.
Received a response from Towne Tavern on my review below. I am totally satisfied with how they responded to make good on my unsatisfied experience. They were experiencing a very difficuny situation. They responded to me within days of experiencing heavy flood damage. Kudos to Towne Tavern for resolving this issue in a timely manner under such a difficult situation. Ordered take out late night. Had to wait cause the wings weren't ready. No big deal normally. The pizza ended up cold and over cooked. The wings were not hot and over cooked as well. $57.00 for a horrible meal. I get that its tough now, with heavy take out orders and low staff for businesses. But you gotta do better. Tried writing a comment on their comment section on their website but that didn't work . Kept saying "try later" so I'm writing a public review instead.
Come for the bar scene - not for the food. We came last year and food was fine, but something has changed. Even the waitresd (who was great) said “order the brisket sandwich - it’s not as tough as the plate “- took a chance on the plate - inedible. Pizza was a sloppy mess, chicken wings were made long ago and just covered with warm sauce. Sad - but the people at the bar looked happy.
My family and I have been going to the Towne Tavern for over a decade. The food has always been excellent. Recently the service quality has not matched the food quality. The last few visits a particular wait staff has always seemed annoy and put out when assigned to our table. We are not a loud or large group, keep simple orders, and always tips very well. It may have been because we have children, so maybe that was why they were annoyed. However, this restaurant has a kids menu… Tonight, with different wait staff on duty, we were sat and waited a solid half an hour and no staff came to take our orders. I recognize they were busy, but that was not the contributing factor. One table next to us was partially sat before us, and completely after us. The other table next to us was sat well after us. Both tables had their drink orders taken and received and food orders taken while no one came to our table. I tried to make eye contact with wait staff to get some one to take out order, but failed. After over a half hour we walked out.
Lousy meal for both of us. I couldn't even eat my portabella stuffed mushroom with mozzarella. Horrible, and the waitress didn't even ask if I why I didn't eat it! Margarita horrible!
Unfortunately they were having an off night. 6:30 reservations, arrived 15 minutes early and seated. We ordered, had an appetizer and salad. After an hour went by, I was told the kitchen didn't have what I ordered, beer battered haddock. Waitress gives apologies and brings me a menu to order something else. I order the Mac N Cheese. 30 minutes go by, now it's 8:00. The Waitress came back and tells us " they have to make the pasta, that is why its taking so long." She felt bad we still haven't had our entrees after 90+ minutes. 8:27 meals come out of the kitchen ...the Mac N cheese is overcooked to the point the cheese is dried up. So no one watched it when it was in the oven. The Waitress asked the manager to come talk to our table, she apologized, said it was a staffing issue 🙄 (why, because there was no fish ? or because the Mac n Cheese was dried out ? ) and she was nice enough to comp our appetizer and our drinks. That customer service gesture took the sting out of the evening.
Was seated shortly after arriving. After being seated we watched waitress serve the next 3 customers that arrived after us. We never were served or asked for our drink orders. When we approached staff we were looked at with the deer in the headlights look and had no clue we were even there..even though she passed us 5 times. Traveled 30 minutes to get there for such a huge customer service disappointment. Couldn't tell you about the food since ordering was not on the menu.
Tavern absolutely fell off this summer, great place and service but maybe drug test the chefs from now on cuz someone’s high on something strong to overcook wings so much so that my shoe soles are less stiff then the award winning wings lol not even exaggerating this. Love the place but whoever cooks the takeout is trash at it
Our waitress was too busy speaking with her friend when we first arrived. We waited 15 minutes before she came to our table to take our drink order. We were there for over an hour and a half, watched tables come and go before we even got our dinner. The service was horrible. Then asked if we wanted some fries to make up for the wait. That's what we got for being there for an hour and 45 minutes. For a simple dinner.
I have really enjoyed the food from the towne tavern until today. I called to place a pick up order at 5:15. When I asked how long, I was told 30 mins. Having order pick up from there before I know they are slow, so I left my house at 6. I did not get my food until 6:50 after inquiring a second time about my order at the hostess stand. When it was handed to me it was cold. The pizza was not cooked to its normal crispness. And the Irish nachos I was excited to have after liking them immensely last year were totally disappointing. There were tortilla chips not homemade chips, the toppings were lacking and I was given salsa and plain sour cream not the Guinness sour cream that was listed with the appetizer. Very long drawn out, and overall disappointing experience.
The service was excellent. The food was not. The wings came out room temp. The burger, even for well done, was burnt. The chicken panini had to have been boiled chicken or microwaved. The chips were burnt. However, our server was a very nice young lady. We tipped the customary 15%. It ain't her fault that the kitchen is Applebees light. Do not waste your money. But, if you do, that is on you. Tip appropriately.
What happened to Towne Tavern?!?! The food and service used to be great. Now you have to pay for overpriced low quality food and horrible service. Our waitress last night was terrible. We had to asked for water three times, which we finally got with our dinner. Had to ask for utensils twice and didn’t get them until after we finished our wings (yea I like to eat wings with a knife and fork). Right after we sat down we ordered a glass of wine and a beer but didn’t get them until 30 minutes later when our wings arrived. Then when we get our dinners they were not hot any more and had clearly been sitting in the kitchen. The host had to deliver them and the gravy on our fries had been sitting for song long it developed a film. The best part is I messaged towne tavern today and they won’t even respond. You lost a longtime customer. Also, who charges $17.99 for 10 wings?!?!?
I met my aunt for dinner and drinks, and we sat at the bar. I ordered a drink, and as I was sitting behind the beer handles, I was unsure if Bree had heard me. I asked my aunt if she thought the bartender had heard me, and Bree berated me and refused to serve me. She was clearly struggling with something, but that's a great way to lose patrons.
Food was terrible warm soup over cooked burger and half the onion rings were burnt to a dry crisp, teaser salad was not much great about that the money spent was not worth the food
We were a large party 10+ with a 6:15pm reservation. We had to check in with the hostess 2x before they told us our table would be ready at 6:30pm. It wasn’t until 7:15ish that we were finally seated. Someone (not our waitress) came over to apologize for the wait which was nice, however, no offer to get drinks or anything right away. Drinks took about another 20 minutes. We asked the waitress to put in our food orders with our drinks and she said she would take drink order first then come back for food order. In between the two orders we asked about splitting checks which was a whole other issue that also delayed putting in food orders even more. Food took a very long time to arrive and was not accurate. One Mac and cheese was missing pulled pork, a sandwich was missing the special mayo and the order of ribs came without the sauces. One from our party literally went into the kitchen twice to ask for what we needed. At the end the birthday girl wanted dessert. You would think this would be a great opportunity to “make right” and give it on the house since at no other point of the night was there an attempt to give great service. Major fail on the restaurant tonight and will not be returning.
I just ordered takeout, beef brisket and a half chicken for over $50. Take a look at the absolute burnt dry garbage they gave me in the pic attached. They should be ashamed to serve this to a dog. The brisket is as stiff and hard as beef jerky and the chicken is BLACK. This "food" is completely inedible. I'd drive back and throw it at the cook if it wasn't pouring rain outside. If I could give them negative stars I would. I will make sure everyone I know never goes back there.
