Opinions de 21 Greenpoint Brooklyn
Genuinely my favorite spot in the city. The food, the staff, the atmosphere. Always sterling. It is a labor of love among at least a dozen talented individuals and it shows.
21 Greenpoint is the exact kind of neighborhood spot you hope to stumble into and then never want to gatekeep. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool with low lighting, intimate tables, and that perfect hum of conversation. Service is always genuinely kind. Every dish is intentional and beautifully composed. This is the spot. My favorites are the mussel toast, Wednesday pizza night, and the pink sparrow.
A truly special Greenpoint institution. The dishes here are created with such love and *top quality* ingredients. I never knew what a ramp, bucatini noodle or sunchoke was before I came to 21. Food is an art form at this place. One of the longest-running restaurants in the neighborhood for a reason. Top notch
TLDR: This restaurant gave me and my friends free chicken/eggplant parms and now I will not only die on that hill but actively fight (metaphorically) anyone who disagrees that this is the best brunch spot in all of Greenpoint. So I've been on a quest to find the best breakfast burrito in the area. Why? Cause I work in Times Sq as a photographer (it's a real job) and a co-worker intro'd me to this spot called Los Tacos No. 1. They have these little girthless breakfast burritos that slap. The lack of girth tbh is what makes them so appealing. "They fit in my mouth so nicely" is a common sentiment around the office. We don't have an HR dept, so, take that as you will. But I digress, I got hooked on breakfast b's again and wanted to find the equivalent of the "girthless burrito wonder" in my own neighborhood. I asked the good people of Reddit (irony if you can't tell) and a bunch of people suggested 21 Greenpoint. Now the idea was to try a few places in the hood, but I loved the breakfast burrito so much at 21 that I stopped looking altogether. Now, I know what you're thinking aloud... and the answer is no, the burrito was not girthless, it was average girth, but not so big that it can't all fit in your mouth. It is what my Hell's Kitchen friends call a "boyfriend burrito." No I won't explain that. Anyways, I like to call restaurants and talk to the hosts when I get lonely or I want to set up a callback joke (I fell as a child, I'm not kidding) when I come in. I called on Sunday cause it was snowing and I wasn't sure if they were open. They were. And I talked to the hostess about if they had the pancake (it's divine) and she mentioned that on Sunday's they also had chicken parm. "Come in for a pancake and a parm" were the words I heard, but I somehow assumed that because it was snowing and they were allegedly leaving early, that they were giving out free chicken parms. So I called my friend ol' Matty Blue Eyes and this girl I had been on exactly one date with where we kissed and did some under-the-table hand stuff at a dive bar. Everyone was psyched for the brunch, but double psyched for free chicken parm. But I had misheard... there was no free chicken parm according to the waiter. I saw the hostess walk by and sheepishly asked her if I had misheard her, she confirmed I had, but then told me "if I thought I was getting free chicken parm and then didn't, that would totally ruin my day, so you all get free chicken or eggplant parm!" Not only was the brunch amazing, but that chicken parm reheated on a cold Sunday night in the middle of a snowstorm after I crushed 4 Montauk IPAs, was nothing short of magical. Then I turned on Titanic for the first time with that girl I went on exactly one date with, the one I kissed and did some hand stuff with under-the-table at the dive bar and we cuddled and talked about how amazing the chicken parm was while Kate Hudson cheated on her fiancé with Leo. Not even kidding, best Sunday I've had in years. I added a picture of the 2 chicken parms and the one eggplant parm they gave us. This restaurant is now solidified as a spot of legend in my mind. Go here if you want all your dreams and purpose in life fulfilled. Now if you'll excuse me, I have leftover chicken parm to eat because the servings were outrageously generous.
I loved this place when it was river styx and I love it to this day as 21 Greenpoint. I think the drinks are well made. The service is always hospitable. But best of all the food is consistent. I especially can’t get enough of the river styx version of their nachos! I hope this place never leaves us!
I brought my cousin for her birthday and she really enjoyed the food and the service. The food is so delicious, my favorite is the Rigatoni with the lamb and the Tres Leche dessert. We will be back, I mean its by 2nd time dining here.
Omfg this place was the perfect place for my bday gathering! I had Scott as a server and he was literally the most absolute amazing server I could’ve asked for. Like I wanna be his friend. The burger was to die for and the bartender need to leave restaurants and open up an upscale bar bc the drinks were amazing!
I've been coming here since it was River Styx and it's my favorite place that's stood the test of time. Used to be the only spot on GP ave. I like to sit at the bar and order dinner sometimes with someone, sometimes solo. It's generally easy to get a spot at the bar and I like that. Bar reservations should be illegal. The food is good and the menu changes, service isn't pretentious! What else can you ask for?
My brother took me there in May for the first time. Had wedge salad and roasted chicken. Came back this past weekend while housesitting for him and got exactly the same thing. Love the dressing on the wedge and the long hots is a nice touch on the chicken. Phenomenal place. Will be going back in the fall.
I ate the nachos, burrata and the pasta. Dinner for two with no alcohol was about $90 including tax and tip. Nachos were good, but skippable. Burrata was a grand slam! The bread that it comes with was also just spectacular. The pasta and meatballs was also delicious. Meatballs were skippable but the pasta was not. I'd come back.
At the end of Greenpoint Ave, just before Transmitter Park is this amazing and delicious chill spot. Sitting outside on a cool summer day, people watching and having a delicious cocktail was perfect. The food was delicious and very well plated. Service was friendly. All around positive vibes in this place. Plus I came to find out Bill Murray sometimes pops in to guest bartend or work as a waiter. Nice perk since his son owns the restaurant. Enjoy!
One of the best brunch places in the neighborhood. Great ambiance and really amazing food. We got the wedge salad, the shrimp and grits, and the jalapeño cornbread. Everything was great, but the cornbread was probably the best I’ve ever had. They had walk-in availability at noon on a Sunday and we got a nice table near the window. Highly recommend!
This place is truly one of our ride or dies. There’s always something new happening with the menu, the cocktails are great, the staff is super friendly and best of all, the interior is gorgeous. Come here for a early drink at happy hour and stay until 11pm. Our favorite time to head here is Saturday afternoons when you can really hang, chat with the bartender and enjoy the vibes.
Came here for a late brunch with a couple of friends and it was very chill. The place is bigger than it looks on the outside with nice sky-lighted seating in the back. We got the wedge salad (3.5/5), jalapeño cornbread (4/5) breakfast bowl with veggie chorizo (4.5/5) and shrimp and grits (4/5). Everything was solid, overall a pretty solid brunch place.
The service was pretty good, the food was mostly great, the ambience was the biggest detractor for me. Too loud and too busy—but that’s not really under control of the staff. The -1 star is because the crispy artichokes were WAY too salty and the saffron aioli that came with, though good, didn’t pair well with the artichokes at all. The focaccia was incredible - a must get. The sauce it comes with is kind of like a red pepper paste vinaigrette and I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it but it was great. The bread was also good dipped into the saffron aioli. The chicken was super moist and well cooked with an excellent crispy skin and tons of garlic. All around a good experience!
Brooklyn has so many new and interesting restaurants opening up everywhere, it is not easy to keep up. The name of the restaurant is the address of the restaurant, makes it easy to find and to remember. It was pretty packed, and seemed rather small. They had a bar right at the entry, and very small amount of seating... But, we discovered they actually have more seating in the back with bigger tables! The back room was very nice and cozy, quiet and relaxing. Well, until this room got filled up. We ordered a few items since we were all hungry. We got a Special Pizza of the Day, which was white pizza with mozzarella, permesan, and pepperoni. It had quite the punch from the chili flakes, good and spicy! We also ordered a Market Fish, which was Scottish trout. The fish was very much like salmon. It had great mix of fish and sweet watermelon! The last item we ordered was Pork Chop New York. The pork chops was nothing like I imagined, and quite tasty! The meat was packed with flavor with perfect amount of seasoning. For dessert, we asked what the “Seasonal Cobbler” is, and we were told it is apple and pear. It came out piping hot, rather small but since we were full, that was ok. It had some rosemary that added aroma and flavor which was quite pleasant. It was not too herb-y but just enough. I was used to getting ice cream with cobbler in the past, but their cobbler does NOT come with ice cream. So, we added order of ice cream as well. We chose Vanilla and Blueberry Olive Oil ice cream. The ice cream came out first, and it took a while for the cobbler to come out. So about the time the cobbler finally reached our table, the ice creams were gone… The service was good and friendly. We were taken care of nicely, felt welcomed in a relaxing atmosphere. It was a good find on the restaurant, with good food and service. The price point is rather high, though.
Called to make reservations and the guy on the other was incredibly polite. Who ever seated us, also polite and welcoming. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. Service was beyond great. Food was very good, not earth shattering, but very good. The shrimp ceviche I found tasted too much like olive oil. I wouldn’t get that again or recommend it. I got the pork for dinner and I thought it was really good. My girlfriend got the tagliatelle. It needed salt but otherwise good. The drinks were really good. Really good. Overall, nice local spot that I would definitely go back. The bar next door is also a good place to check out
This place is cozy and beautiful inside, but the food falls flat. While I was excited for the mahi mahi dish, I was disappointed by the lack of flavors. The churros were a nice touch, but could be easily found elsewhere. The wine, however, was the best part. Not sure I’d go back because the food is pretty average.
Pretty much everyone in our party wasn’t impressed by the food. The place is beautiful and ghe decoration is really really nice. Very interesting perhaps for a drink or two. Maybe going here for brunch wasnt the best experience. Staff seemed very frustrated overall. Cute spot tho!! Just widh the food spoke highly of the place as well. Focaccia is way pricier than it should.
Took 90+ minutes to get food. The waiter was lovely, management was terrible. Wish I could say the food was worth it, but tragically not. Want to believe the kitchen was understaffed but not confident that was the case based on what management told us. Recommend only if you have a leisurely two hours to spare and go in expecting it all to take forever.
