The California Rolls are amazing and the Teriyaki chicken is very well served. Everything is very clean and cozy and the staff is very nice.

It’s the best restaurant in my life. I strongly recommend this restaurant someone who like sushi or sashimi.

Have been going to this restaurant for many years. One of my favorite places. Their sushi is one of the best. My favorite is the Chirashi.

One of the oldest if not oldest Japanese restaurants in Cupertino. Same location since the 70s. Tremendous value in their portion sizes. The food/fish is not a lower quality than the Korean sushi places. Tremendous variety from Nigiri to Rolls to Donburi to bento. Well run. High volume. Better food quality than Gombei.

A long time Japanese cuisine in Cupertino. Good quality food. Great service. Not cheap, but worth it.

I was impressed with the rolls and how neatly the food was packed. I usually don't eat sushi since I prefer sashimi, so eating baked rolls is still very new to me. I loved the Sushi Pizza Roll (bottom roll) because it had everything in it: shrimp tempura, unagi, hamachi, avocado, cucumber, crab meat, gobo, and cheese!

The food is great. I am very enjoying it. People are friendly.

Loved the food! Glad to find a place that has Japanese cuisine outside of sushi, donburi, and udon. Definitely coming back again.

Sushi and hot pot tasted 100% authentic and delicious. Friendly family atmosphere where we could enjoy our leisurely Friday evening conversation. We were seated and nobody talked to us for 10 minutes BUT the manager came over, took our order, apologized, and made sure we were well taken care of for the rest of our meal. Very pleased!!!

Great Japanese restaurant overall. Had the tonkatsu combo meal and the tonkatsu was crispy and the paired sauce was good. Also had the sashimi which tasted above average and were pretty generously sized. Only minor thing I didn't like was the salad wasn't mixed that well so some pieces had too much dressing. The restaurant decor seemed decent and everything looked quite clean. I'm not sure why it isn't as full as places across the street.

I have never had a bad meal here. The fish is always really fresh, and the cook dishes are very consistent. I especially recommend the shiitake mushroom salad.

Hands down the most authentic Japanese restaurant in town. Atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Menu is comprehensive. I've never been disappointed with any selection. Sushi rolls are good sized 8-10 pieces. Wait staff are always polite and helpful.

I am a long time fan of Azuma. My mom and I used to go there almost every Friday for years. We knew the owner and all the staff. Our life changed a bit but Azuma didn't. The staff is different of course but still wonderfully attentive and caring. And the food is simply as stellar as it ever was. Highly recommended: - Seafood Tempura, an awesome and generous combination of seafood and veggies in a great breading coating with light but flavorful tempura sauce. Probably one of the best made tempura in the South Bay. Enough food for 2! - Agedashi Tofu: cubes of tender tofu breaded with the same coating as the tempura and deep fried. The sushi and sashimi are superb. The fish is so fresh and tender it is firm, yet melts in your mouth. The rice is never ever dry and slightly aromatic. This is a true family style restaurant with warm service and substantial meals but with the superior quality, a wide variety of plates worthy of high class locales, yet with reasonable and affordable prices. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed, with a choice of Japanese style booths, exclusive private booths, or open seating tables. Some areas are brightly lighted and others more muted. My all time favorite Japanese restaurant in the area.

The food and service is always great, the atmosphere is pleasant but it has a lot of dated interior and bathrooms. Will recommend the sashimi and sushi.

M

Excellent sushi, friendly service and a fresh, inviting atmosphere. We were greeted like frequent patrons on our first visit. Adventurous but not daunting menu. We had fried lotus leaves, sushi, and skewers. It was all delicious. Especially good with kids ( they rigged mine's chopsticks to be kid friendly). Definitely making it my 'regular' sushi place.

Azuma offers thoughtfully and skillfully prepared delicious Japanese food served with quiet simplicity and pride. We had four of their house specialties: Gindara Kasuzuke (broiled Alaskan black cod marinated in sake and miso), Chaean Mushi (steamed egg custard loaded with yummy umami proteins and veggies), Shimeji Mushroom Saute, and Kinpira Gobo (sauteed burdock root). These dishes are all worthy of your time and attention - all bursting with umami and delicately balanced in flavors. We also had one of the best Yakitori we have ever had. They served a generous portion of Ohitashi, a personal favorite. Finally, the saki and hamachi nigiri sushi they served were delicately delicious and perfect. Azuma is truly a gem! Highly recommended 👍🏼

My family and I really enjoy this place. The food is delicious and the staff is great. The restaurant is nice and with a relaxed vibe. Two of our must haves every visit are the Nabeyaki Udon and Agedashi Tofu.

Nice place and delicious food. My daughter and I got in a good mood after having dinner here. Very nice staff. We liked that everything was fresh, the fish tasted amazing! We were also pleasantly surprised by the large portions and received a compliment from the establishment - free tea, which was very nice. By the way, the tea is very delicate and fragrant. And this is a quiet place where you can have a good chat with friends. We will definitely be back!

Solid Japanese restaurant. They've got a good assortment of regular dishes and sushi options. Sushi tasted fresh enough, but the house specials are where my favorite dishes are. Service kinda depends on where you're seated. If you are sitting behind any tables, be ready to flag down wait staff. Interior is relatively clean, though some areas are a little sticky. It gets busy after 6, so expect to wait if you come after then

This was our first time at Azuma Sushi. My toddler niece loves having sushi with me for lunch, and her go-to is usually avocado rolls, miso soup, gyoza, and tempura, sometimes chicken teriyaki. We also ordered steak and scallop skewers which were pretty tiny. In addition, we ordered a sashimi assortment, unagi nigiri, and shrimp nigiri. Overall, while the food was good, I wouldn’t place it among the top-tier sushi spots we frequent. The service was good—friendly and attentive—and the ambiance was authentic, with traditional decor and a spacious layout. We arrived late for lunch, so there was no wait, and parking in the plaza was plentiful. Since we were there right before their lunch closing, we had to eat quickly, which was a challenge with my toddler niece’s slow eating pace. However, they didn’t rush us at all. We had an enjoyable time, but given the many sushi options in the Bay Area, especially along Stevens Creek in Cupertino, we’d likely explore other places before returning.

Decent Japanese restaurant that has been in business for many years. Good variety of Japanese dishes with ample portions. Mostly authentic recipes and ingredients. I like that you can order traditional Japanese meals as well as sushi.

Very generous cuts of fish on their sushi rolls! Great value for the quality. I recommend the Under The Sea roll - this was my favorite and had a good blend of flavors. A hefty roll! The Double Roll is also a great option for those who enjoy simplicity and one kind of fish in particular. The table shared the Beef Sukiyaki, which is on the sweet side. Very flavorful and packed with umami! I enjoyed this a lot. A good contrast from the sushi we ordered. I also tried the Escolar Nigiri, which was a thin cut. The quality was decent and the fish was fresh.

Located at the end of a strip mall. Parking in the evening was easy. Had a good time here. Food was good, some sushi rolls were a little on the smaller side but not atypical for the area as are the prices. Staff were very nice. Not pushy or quick to have us leave after we ate. The overall ambience was nice but a little dated. It’s not an upscale restaurant but also not a hole in the wall type of place. The restrooms were clean but stuck in the 1980s and overall the restaurant could do with a remodel.

Pretty good. expansive menu. good service. clean. would've preferred glass pelligrino to plastic. would've liked some sauce with my karaage. chicken could've been crisper. did not taste any special powder. I like the Salmon onigiri, they have a really cool menu. I look forward to going back.

2025 Jun visit Went for lunch with a colleague to try again to try their sushi. I chose to have their 12-piece Sashimi combo. As before, the fish pieces were fresh, good size, and aged eell for tenderness. Tasty! This time, the order came with soup/miso, salad, and rice, whereas the Nigiri and Sashim item didn't come with a salad last time. I wonder if they changed the menu to include the item. Anyway, one suggestion is to have an option to replace the white rice (simple carbohydrates) with either brown rice or vegetables for those who try to minimize intake of simple carbohydrates Service was attentive, and the value was good. Will likely return in the future. 2023 Perhaps I had too high of an expectation from both the higher Google rating and a few recommendations. As appetizers, we ordered grilled whole calamari and fried chicken. Some of the chicken were slightly undercooked, and all the pieces I had had that smell when the chicken was double cooked or less fresh. The grilled calamari was dry, burned, and slightly overlooked, making some pieces hard to chew. The main was Sushi and Sashimi combo. This was more acceptable with larger fish that seemed well prepared. However, it was a bit disappointing that it didn't come with a simple salad (only miso soup).

Good price, good service and nice food. The chicken donburi has a little bit too much soup in it. The steak roll is a little bit chewy and cold. Maybe we came here late, just 1 hour before closing. Under the sea roll is great and fresh. It’s good overall and I’ll come here again for sure.

About my third time here. Had several items: *Kikko liver. Interesting dish. Chicken livers and mushrooms baked in a sweet sauce. Tasty but too sweet. *Soft shell crab appetizer. Not greasy. Generous portion. Nothing special. *Shrimp kushiyaki skewers. Two per skewer, two skewers. Swimming in yakitori sauce. Could taste the grill, but overcooked. *Chicken yakitori. Same as shrimp. Cooked well, still too much sauce. *Cucumber roll. Not bad. *Chicken domburi. Very large portion with tempura veggies. Sauce on the side allowed for control. Good. Came with soup and salad. Service was great, they were busy.

I used to come here with my mom and family; the food was always good and the service was always excellent. Last night my family and my mom's best friend went to honor my mom, who passed away recently. The food was not as good as I remember, but still good. However, the service was horrible! The server took a long time bringing items we thought should be quick (hot tea, ginger and wasabi, chopsticks). I looked over and every time we were waiting on something she was hanging out by the sushi bar talking or picking her nails! We asked for a hot tea refill at the beginning of our meal and she forgot each time she "checked" on us. We finally got the only refill after we were brought the check! I would give 1 1/2 stars for the service and 31/2 for the food.

L

I didn’t dine in here, so I’ll be fair in my review of the food in a takeout setting. The sushi was just OK. I actually didn’t finish the shrimp roll, but the vegetable options were great, and the karaage was OK. It’s a good option if you’re really craving Japanese take out. I personally don’t think I would give this one another shot and would maybe look for something else, just so I can explore other options.

Had the Premium Chirashi. The sashimi came on a bed of daikon; chirashi rice on the side was sweet, not tangy. The sashimi came in large chunks, reaching for quantity. conservative, usual choices, no daily specials to be seen - here, nor in the menu. Freshness was median, with some cuts questionable- left a couple on the plate. The tempura ebi head tasted of stale oil. Maybe I came in a bad day. The place reaches for ambience - be prepared for elevator piano music.

First time trying Azuma and it was a nice atmosphere. The service was good and they gave us some beginner chopsticks. The food was okay. The rolls were decent, the chicken karaage was good but dry. The tonkatsu I had was crispy, but dry. Maybe it was an off day, but try out this to make your own opinion.

T

Chicken Karaage was definitely good. Sushi 3.5 stars based on freshness. I may be spoiled as I live in LA where there are great sushi restaurants. I also had lived in Kyoto so my expectation could be different. All in all I would go back if I am in the area again.

Friend recommended this place. Ordered 2 different rolls and a sushi set. Unfortunately, both the sushi and rice were overly dry. Couldn't taste the freshness of the raw fish. Tasted like the rolls and sushi had been out for quite a while and got air dried. The decor and ambience were okay and service was good. Disappointed!

Went for dinner at around 8:30pm on a Wednesday night. Noticed only 1 other table of customers in the restaurant. Ordered one of the house specials, the grilled squid and upgraded it to a meal vs an appetizer so they included, salad, miso soup and rice. Squid tasted ok, couldn’t really taste the sauce as it seemed drizzled on top of the squid. Rice was set on the counter waiting to be served with the squid. Was served the soup and salad way before the squid is ready so everything was lukewarm by the time the squid was grilled and ready to be served. Overall a mediocre meal since the temperature of the food was compromised. Friend ordered a sukiyaki dish and said it is too sweet.

came here for takeout dinner while staying overnight in Cupertino. Service was rude, and lengthy time to receive order though it didn't seem very busy. Seaweed salad was very good, but the nigiri sushi tasted a bit off (especially the hamachi). Price was high considering the quality and size of portions.

Our waitress was attentive and welcoming which is the reason for the higher rating. We assumed and were hopeful that the food would be good based on the Google rating but unfortunately the food we received was not flavored well. I ordered the poke lunch special that was drenched with a sauce that soaked the lettuce and rice to the point that it was the only flavor I could taste. Also the quality of the fish was sadly below average. The presentation was pretty though. Hopefully the chef(s) adjust this dish.

Today afternoon, my family and I go for lunch in here. We ordered some bento boxes and rolls and 4 pieces "fresh oyster". After we home, person who ate the oyster all have horrible diarrhea.... We all when to restroom for few times... For the family member who didn't ate the oyster is ok.... How Bad is the oyster quality....

Barely no service, waitress is rude & she stinks , which affects our appetite so badly Food is soso but definitely does not deserve 4+ stars at all I don’t recommend this place

K

Poor service, food prep took 40 min, while they were moderately busy and there were 4+ people behind the sushi counter area. That plate on the bottom right of the photo was under my elbow the whole lunch, even though we had empty plates that could have been taken away by staff, which made it very uncomfortable for me. The steak shreds on top of the sushi were cold and blend, while the sushi itself was warm.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!It’s weird that this place has high review ratings. This place is so bad. Waiter was super rude to us, food was cold and she kept rushing us out. it was a Sunday morning and only one other customer was in the restaurant with us. She tried to take our plates away when we clearly still had food! $70 s for 3 plates of sushi that could have been better plus a bento. Hell no choose another place!!

This place has the worst service ever. The waitresses start walking away before you finish talking. They start trying to take away your plates before you are done. We had to hold onto our food so that they didn’t remove it. They brought the bill before asking if we wanted dessert. We then made sure we got dessert. They had absolutely zero manners. I don’t know how they are even in business. They were awful. That was my first and last time ever. I was with someone but in retrospect we should have canceled our order and just walked out. I was extremely disappointed. It was literally like a classic Seinfeld episode. I’m glad I wasn’t the one buying dinner. Lol. Never go here.

I took a pick up order. The lady was a bit rude, I really fell that I was disturbing. I was very disappointed by the rolls, the avocado was black. There are big, too much rice, not good pieces of fish. I even got a piece of hard plastic in one of the maki. I will not eat there again.
