Opinions de Elephant Bar Hayward
Excellent place, clean, a little cold because of the air conditioning, the excellent drinks bar. Food well served, excellent seasoning, good portion.
Came in for my husbands birthday. We had a wonderful experience. It is on the pricier side, but the food is good. Go for the top shelf margarita over the Cadillac margarita. The chips are house fried and the guacamole did not disappoint. I did not think they would notice the note I put on the reservation, but they did and brought us out dessert as well as sang Happy Birthday. Save room for dessert if you can, the Mexican chocolate bread pudding was divine!
Great place for Taco Tuesdays. Comfortable atmosphere and kind service. I really like the chicken tacos fresh and nice, not so much for the baja style tacos (too oily).
I had the Sopa de Res and it was absolutely spectacular—rich flavor, fresh ingredients, and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was calm and pleasant, with great music at just the right volume, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. Totally recommended!
This was our second visit and first brunch. There weren't a ton of options but the ones they had looked great. I had Chilaquiles rojos, my sister had the verses and my mom and daughter had the Huevos Divorciados. All great. I mean I make an excellent Chilaquiles but this was pretty good. The staff both times was excellent, very attentive. I'm not a fan of paying for chips and salsa but we added small guacamole and bean dip to make it worth our while. The chips are off-the-hook good! I'd come back just for that. Parking is easy breezy and the interior is decorated tastefully. I love it here.
What a good restaurant. Very nice eating area, great food, and excellent service! I absolutely loved our server, Cynthia. She’s incredible. So sweet but also gets the job done. We came on taco Tuesday so it was a great deal too! Thanks for a good night and great food. Maybe don’t come with a large group because they have a sign at the front making it clear they don’t like big groups. Signs say a lot.
I stopped by here as I was in the area and absolutely loved this place! We ordered a couple of craft cocktails and a few appetizers. The cocktails were delicious and unique and I can’t wait to come back and try the others! The ceviche was fresh and delicious and they were very generous with avocado and shrimp! I usually see other places skimping a bit on ceviche toppings so this was awesome! We also ordered the small tortilla soup, which was very comforting and a little more filling than I had expected. The chicken was cooked well and the broth was flavorful. Other things to note: they have outdoor seating available with heaters above most tables. They also have a large parking with ample parking spaces.
Great service and restrooms are clean lots of free parking. Food was on point. Drinks hitting fast and friendly staff.
Food is very good, highly quality. Great margaritas! Food selection has condensed some the last couple of years but still plenty of options. Don't like that they charge for chips and salsa now but that seems to be a sign of times unfortunately.
I came here to have dinner and try out the place. We were seated quickly and the atmosphere was great. Our server was very nice, but unfortunately our food took a long time to come out (50 min). Our server never came to talk to us and address it until right before it came out. Other than that, the food looked beautiful and the portions were good. The torta was a good size and came with a side of fries, and the chimichanga was very big! The Steak Ranchero could use a bit more seasoning, but overall it was good.
More than a 3 less than a 4 stars. Came here with a group of 9 for a birthday dinner. Drove past this place hundreds of times and never thought to stop. They have a huge building that can accommodate 50+ parties and even park-let style outdoor seating attached to the building. Our server was on point with our party. He checked in on us and made sure all of our food was correct when it was brought out to us. They didn't mess up a single order. I ordered a beergarita (pictured), honey had a regular and others at the table had mango margaritas. The regular margarita glass was smaller than the mango margaritas. All of the margs we're meh. Nothing to call and Uber over. When trying new Mexican restaurants always start with the carne asada, if their carne asada is not strong, the menu won't be strong either. I had the steak wet burrito and honey had the steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas. The fajitas came with a lot of veggies and they were good too. Both were good and tasted familiar. Someone in another review said it good enough to go back but nothing to crave and I couldn't agree more. Once we left we found out the same owners of Metro Taqueria own this place. Which is why the food tasted a little familiar. Will definitely come back.
The food is good here. I’ve been here a few times and had excellent food. last time I went, I stepped out of the norm. Didn’t have my beer with dinner. Decided to have some soda. Soda tasted kind of funny. I think they might not be cleaned like they need to be both myself and the two people I were with ended up with diarrhea that night any other time I’ve been that’s not happened. The only thing that was different. Was the soda from now on Coke in a bottle.
I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience given how often my family and I used to dine here. For a long time, we visited this restaurant twice a week despite the higher prices. A typical dinner for three, including two drinks (a beer and a bourbon), was consistently over $100. Unfortunately, when the restaurant began charging for chips and salsa, it changed the experience entirely. What was once a welcoming staple now felt nickel-and-dimed, and it seems many other regulars felt the same way. As a result, we went from being loyal, twice-weekly customers to not returning for more than six months. When I finally did come back—on the opening night of Monday Night Football (Raiders vs. Chargers)—there were six empty seats at the bar and the rest of the restaurant was nearly vacant. While I cannot say with certainty that the decision to charge for chips and salsa alone caused this decline, for an already expensive Mexican restaurant in a city full of excellent alternatives, it may have been the small but significant detail that drove customers away. Better food / better prices at Los Dos Hermans, Vallarta , or El Taquito 1 or 2. (Just to mention a few off the top of my head)
Last evening's visit to The Mexican was good and disappointing. My wife's shrimp taco received her positive reviews. On the other hand, my Mexican burrito ($18), while tasty, was warm, lukewarm. When the server asked how our food was, I pointed out that the shredded cheese in the burrito had not melted and the burrito was only warm. He said, "I'll check." He only returned much later to give me the check. So much for doing something about it. Also, what happened to the free chips and salsa? My summary: disappointing.
Great atmosphere and staff was super. Decor is clean and modern and there is a nice large parking lot. Menu is detailed and has a lot of variety. I can only give 3 stars because I was willing to pay $32 for an entree of 12 prawns (as described on the menu), but what I got was 12 (mostly) large shrimp:( Seriously???!! I cannot believe they advertised the dish as prawns and, since there are no sides that come with this dish, that price should have DEFINITELY only been for PRAWNS!!! Very disappointing and makes me not want to even go back to try something else on the menu.
the food was no way near authentic and too expensive. the customer service was nice but all like robots with a smile that have to learned to act all the same expressions and answers! :-( Not coming back!
The food wasn't good and very pricey. Long wait to be acknowledged by the weiter and even longer wait to be serve . In addition, this is the only mexican restaurant that do not offer chips and salsa for free. One must purchase a $10.00 small bowl of stale chips and insipid salsa. The main dish was terrible , the meat was overcooked , and the chorizo was hard and old as the tortillas were. The coconut Flan was stale, and the texture was like wet bread. The service was average , and the manager had an arrogant attitude when asked for extra napkins . I do not recommend this restaurant $$$$$
I ordered the protein bowl (protein salad) with shredded chicken via door dash. However, the bowl comes with a special house salad, but I did not receive it with my order, and the salad was pretty bland without it. I also do not recommend shredded chicken with the protein bowl as it does not taste well when mixed with the other ingredients. I contacted Doordash and they tried to reorder the bowl with dressing, but the restaurant blocked Doordash from reordering at no cost to me. The food is mediocore and very pricey.
My delivery order was not supposed to include jalapeño on the sandwich, the sandwich bread was not supposed to be burnt and the drink that was paid for was supposed to be included. I guess there’s no such thing as checking your work there.
Stay away from The Mexican Restaurant & Bar. I ordered the carnitas plate on 9/21/25 and found a 7-9” hair in my food. Completely disgusting! The manager never came by to apologize or address the issue. Hygiene and customer service are not a priority here!
I went there with one of my friends. A girl from front desk and manager are horrible and don't know how to give a good customer service. The food is ok, but the service from manager and staff are horrible. We ordered Combination Molcajete, salsa and Tortilla. I got Molcajete and salsa, but Tortilla is very slow and never come to us. We waited for more than 30mins and didn't get Tortilla. We complained to manager and a girl from front desk. They both said will push again for the food. Actually, they didn't and ignored. After we waited for more than 35 mins for just Tortilla. I decided to leave from the restaurant. We ate very little of meat because we couldn't eat meat without Tortilla. The manager (guy) charged us for 70% of bill even we complained about their horrible service. I've never seen horrible service provided by the restaurant before. This restaurant is horrible with customer service and staffs are not well train how to treat the customer. I will never go again and one time is enough. We didn't enjoy for the service and had a bad day by going there. Bad customer service I ever had.
