Update: I spoke to the owner of the restaurant and he couldn’t have been nicer. He impressed me in his commitment to ensuring that my concerns were addressed. In every business, things can go wrong occasionally. How the business responds to these challenges is very important. Based upon our conversation, I am sure that O’Carrs will continue to be very successful. Previous review: O Carr’s has been a favorite of ours for a long time, though the quality of the food has declined in recent years. More exotic fruit and better crackers were provided in the past. I was picking up our standard chicken salad and fruit on December 31st. As it was the last day of the year, I was looking for a dessert because we always begin the new year with a healthy, though restrictive diet. They had slices of caramel cake that looked good, so I ordered a couple of slices. I asked the woman who was taking the order if the cake was good and she said that it was very good. I noticed that I paid for the cake. I think it was about $12. When I got into the car, I told my husband about the cake and he was really excited. To our surprise and disappointment, there was no cake in the bag when we got home. I tried to call to speak to the manager, but no one was answering the phone and voicemail was not set up. I did not ask for a printed receipt so I’m not sure exactly what I paid for the cake, but I do know it was not cheap. This was a real downer for us, therefore, am unlikely to visit this restaurant in the future.

Such a charming restaurant and the best chicken and rice soup I’ve ever had in my life. The chicken salad and fruit plate was a great size for the value and the service was the best in town! Can’t wait to return again soon!!!

The chicken salad was as good as always. Walked right in, no waiting. Still one of the best milkshakes around. 8/9/25 UPDATE Had the fruit and cheese plate today. Lots of seasonal fruit, some smoked cheddar, brie, Swiss, dill havartti, and a really spicy pepper jack. It comes with a generous serving of olive spread and two slices of nut bread. I also had the mocha milkshake. It was well worth it and I will definitely order again.

We adore Ocarrs!!! The chicken salad is our absolute favorite for a delicious lunch. The atmosphere includes lots of beautiful artwork that creates so much interest and conversation starters. And the cheesecake is drool worthy!! We love having this spot in Homewood, go have a colorful lunch!! :)

O’Carr’s has been one of my favorite-favorites in all of Birmingham for several decades. Their dining room is super cozy and conducive to conversation, and their chicken salad and fruit plate is the absolute best in town!! Their chicken salad is a Birmingham staple, and is both savory and sweet, with the biggest purple grapes! I just love it! 😋 I’m very picky about the freshness of my fruit, and they have never once disappointed! You get so many different fruits to try, the plate is just as beautiful as it is tasty!! They actually go to the local farmers market every-single-morning, to pick up their daily fruits! And if you order their specialty (chicken salad & __), it comes out within just a few minutes, as it’s made fresh daily. The staff is great, and friendly, and the same people have been working there for years; I feel like that says a whole lot about management. It’s also usually packed at lunch, which says a whole lot about the food. O’Carr’s is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Homewood, walking distance from all the shops, and always a great place to stop for lunch (as they’re not open for dinner 😢), or just a slice of delightfully warm cheesecake! (Chocolate is my fave!) I haven’t figured out howww they make and serve it warm, but it’s a must-try!! You will not be disappointed.

Their chicken salad and pimento cheese remind me of my grandmother, which is incredible! I just adore O’Carrs! You can dine in or carry out. Their salad dressings are great too. I love that a sweet friend suggested this to me as a lunch place! My new favorite ❤️
