Chi Kitchen (Ping Coombes Breakfast Club): An enjoyable Sunday morning breakfast of authentic Malaysian dishes. The event was hosted by Ping Coombes (MasterChef Winner 2014) and ably supported by the staff of Chi Kitchen. The food was tasty, just like in Malaysia. The service was attentive and helpful. Would certainly return for the next event.

Lovely experience for first time trying a halal Pan-Asian cuisine. Staff very friendly and the food was excellent. Breakfast finsihes at 11am which was our main purpose. Would definitely recommend.

Great food, great service My friend and I came here out of impulse. This unplanned trip was totally worth it. The food was delicious. Although, I've had a better Vietnamese Pho elsewhere. The rest of the food and drinks that we ordered were all on point. Wanted to try the Hainanese Chicken Rice, but they were out. Will definitely come back to try it.

Nice ambience and affordable meal. The food and dessert were lovely. Nice for the family and easy to get into Debenhams to do your shopping.

Unmissable for lunch when shopping on Oxford Street, the lunch menu is particularly good value in an area that lacks quality food! Looking forward to trying the Thai Green curry as my friend had it and said it was delicious!

Dim sum all day since morning.. there is no other place in oxford street or bond street like this lovely cozy restaurant .. and its so reasonably priced. they serve dimsum for breakfast lunch and dinner. this place is a hidden gem, back of debanhams, hard to notice, amazing food, tried some sushi and popcorn shrimp. staff mentioned they are also based in harrods... thats why they are so good. lovely service..n delicious food

Very first time here and they have a really good selection of pan Asian food. Friendly and welcoming staff too. It’s not usually busy here so you’ll be seated before you know it

This is one of the few good asian food options around OXFORD STREET. The ambiance is not too good, very small and limited space. But, EXCELLENT FOOD. five star only because food was excellent, Service was good as well. Located inside debenhams and another entrance from the street outside.

Great starters - wasabi prawns were the best! The curry and roti was delish too. Choc ball dessert was yummy - good for sharing. Service nice.

Love this place. Noodles are flamed and the Pho is delicious. We go here as it is easy to eat gluten and dairy free.

Friendly service staff, easy going and welcoming. The food was a delight, lots of very fresh ingredients and the crispy shredded beef with the tamarind (I think) was CRAZY good. My friends and I had a great time and the only real issues we had was that the rims of the plates were so large table real estate was hard to come by. Prices at face value could be considered a bit high. Howeve, top tip, they have a lot of deals going online so actual prices paid can very reasonable if you make the effort.

Since stumbling on Chi Kitchen via an instagram food blogger, I've been 6 times to date. The service is great and the food is amazing. Try the Wasabi prawns Beef puffs Korean Steak Added bonus, all the meat is halal.

A little niche place inside a Debenhams. First place that took my sushi virginity and I'm not disappointed at all. Also made me realize that prawns are really good under the right chef. Would definitely recommend a visit and would also like to go back one day.

My wife and I had an exceptional lunch here prior to going to the British Summer Time music festival in Hyde Park. Nicki our waitress was very attentive and the food was delicious, fresh and varied. The sashmi and duck and watermelon salad were particularly good. Thank you

Today was a special celebration lunch for the Chinese New Year, with award winning chef Ping Coombes. Food was just amazing and the ambience of the place wonderful. Staff and the chef are all very friendly and helpful. Definately recommend and I will be coming back soon!

Pan Asian restaurant based in Debenhams on the first floor it also has a street entrance. Food was good service was ok there was a fixed lunch menu of a starter and main course on the whole food was average

I didn't really have expectation when I walked into the restaurant. But it was better than I thought. I think there were at least 5 times that staffs come to us and ask If everything were ok. They got some tasty food and friendly staff.

Really tasty food and some different options you don't always see. Cocktails were nice enough, could do with some more beer options though. Staff were friendly, helpful and happy to give advice.

I like this restaurant for very tasty Laksa soup and nice sashimi. The service could be really better. I recommend to repeat customer’s order after it is taken so no issue with memory and etc :)

Good food and ambience. But staff did not explain the billing system before our order and I ended up paying few pounds extra. Though I feel not intentional.

a lovely little restaurant hidden away on the ground floor of Debenhams. Delicious food with a menu full of different dishes to try. Food is authentic and top quality. Staff are friendly and happy to help. Only downside is the price for such a small number of dumplings. While they were nice, they didn't feel worth the price for only 3

Given 4 stars due to the most amazing Roti/Prata. We had the char kway teow vegetables option, laksa and prata with curry. Overall a great asian fix if you are missing food from malaysia and singapore. The food here will certainly not meet those standards. The char kway teow was below average they out capsicums and mushrooms in since we ordered the veggie option. The laksa came with thin been hoon and not the thick ones like the original version. The prawns were big and fresh, it also came with bean sprouts and bean curd puff which was great. The laksa gravy tasted diluted although the spiciness level was good. The roti /prata was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Definitely worth coming back again and again for it. They fry it crispy and best in london Ive ever had. Better than Roti King and anything in Dishoom. The curry that came along was good too.

The service is fine. People are nice and polite and professional. The starters were excellent then the mains were a bit disappointing. The location is nice but the decoration isn't great. Overall a good restaurant maybe slightly overpriced.

PRESENTATION ISN'T EVERYTHING My guest and I attended Chi Kitchen on the Hot Dinners 50% off food offer. At these prices we felt that it was reasonable priced at normal prices, it's way over priced for it's location. To begin with it's in Debenham's on Oxford Street and not an easy find if you're coming in through the store (in fact almost impossible until you see the signs advertising it's location hanging from the ceiling). The entrance on Henrietta Place is definitely the way to come, as it will feel like you're coming into the restaurant itself, rather than a canteen inside the store. Staff seemed a little clueless on all counts, many stating they'd only started that very day. The Wifi wasn't operational and nobody seemed to understand why and even though the establishment had an alternative password protected offering, nobody had the password for that either. This is definitely not a restaurant for those who dislike or are allergic to shellfish, almost literally every dish contains some. Even the menu states that they won't be held responsible for allergic reactions due to the nature of the kitchen. GF (Gluten Free) or Vegetarian options are not marked as such on the menu (not that there seemed to be many options of either). This seemed strange for a new opening restaurant in London. Presentation was good with the starting Salmon Sashimi, a billowing of dry ice not only cooling the fish but looking impressive too. Though when the same device was used on the California Crab Rolls, it felt like a one trick pony. Though service was very slow and disjointed (bordering on over attentive at certain points during our meal to not being able to see a member of the waiting team) it was amicable. The Chicken Katsu with rice, was less impressive visually on the plate but was of a decent quality, though one would argue that it could hardly be considered Malaysian (the restaurant's implied offering). The dessert of Mango Cheesecake was a huge disappointment in both texture and taste and from this experience would probably say desserts are very much an after thought on this menu. As my guest couldn't take dairy, we were shocked to discover that their sorbets allegedly contain milk (a first for me) - so didn't have one. When the bill arrived, the 50% discount was wrong so we simply removed the service. But that felt a bit of a cheat, though clearly an automatic process rather than anything the staff had done. Overall, if you're in Debenhams and have a few pound to burn, it would be better than your usual chain fare, but if not, definitely not worth travelling too.

Most of the dishes we tried were good. Stand out being the crispy shredded beef and lamb. Altho 2 lamb chops for 20 pounds is a bit steep. The salmon maki was not very good in terms of taste and presentation. We also had the dragon prawn roll which was quite good. The service is friendly and food came out quickly.

This was Chi Kitchen located inside Debenhams on Oxford Street. The restaurant was clean. The atmosphere was cozy. Not much was going on in this place. The food is well presented as you can see from the pictures but the taste was not exceptional. With the price paid I can honestly say my local Asian takeaway place gives me a lot more flavour for a lot less money. Worth a visit once atleast so you can make your own judgement.

The main reason to try Chi Kitchen is that the executive chef is the winner of Masterchef 2014 Ping Coombes- well they are doing 50% off the food bill too. We had: Aromatic Duck Spring Roll (£5.95) - The shredded duck is wrapped in a spring roll pastry and then deep fried, served with some hoisin sauce. Hoisin sauce can be quite salty so we only dipped the roll slightly into the sauce to get some flavour. Not recommended Prawn Tempura (£7.95) - The prawn were pretty small and thin, and the batter didn't look particularly crispy either. Not Recommended Chicken Satay (£5.95) - The Malaysian satay chicken was authentic, full of fragrance and packed with flavours. The barbecue char on the chicken gave it that extra smoky flavour. Miso Aubergine (£7.95) - It was a thickly sliced aubergine, cooked on the grill and glazed with a shiny sauce. The aubergine was really juicy and you could really taste the flavours from the grill. Nasi lemak (£15.95) - definitely the most expensive Nast Lemak! The steamed rice accompanied with all the different goodies on the side: the hard boiled egg, salted peanuts, crispy anchovies, cucumber and that sweet spicy sambal paste. And of course, a serving of the Malaysian curry chicken. As much we love our Nasi Lemak, unfortunately the rice was not coconut steamed rice! Chicken Katsu Curry Rice (£14.95) - the chicken katsu was also very thin and quite dry, which was another big let down. The curry was cooked exactly how a Japanese curry should be: fragrant, sweet and spicy flavours all balanced well. Not recommended. Passion Fruit Cheesecake (£5.95) - the cheesecake itself was actually not very sweet at all but it did have a strong passion fruit taste. However the cheesecake biscuit base didn't have much texture and was a bit soggy. Not recommended Mango Creme Brulee (£6.95) - a classic french desert with a tropical touch. This was incredibly creamy. The scoop of mango sorbet served on top was really refreshing and combined with the crispy caramel sugar and the creme brulee itself was excellent. Absolutely yummy! Overall, our experience at Chi Kitchen was ok as their food was hit and miss but the staff were really nice. The overall atmosphere there was also pretty good and it was a nice environment to have a decent meal.

I give ttwo stars for the food which was all right. The service was appalling except for a professional waiter who could do his job properly. The third star is for him. We had four waitresses in a time span of five minutes trying to take our plates away, still containing food, asking us if we were finished.

I
Istiaque Choudhury

Tried to accommodate our desires but missing some classics like chop suey, chow me in, Tom.yum etc. Nothing sensational about the food we tried except the korean steak which was very tender and cooked right but covered in a sweetish sauce, and wasabi prawns were a slight disappointment. I think some.effort in presentation would go a long way (choice of plates, dishes, salad etc)

J

Salty, overpriced, poor service. At least the place is clean and seating is reasonably comfortable.

N

Some dishes are good, some are terrible. There is a lack of consistency in quality across the menu. Also there is no atmosphere, partly because it's inside Debenhams. Lastly, service is mediocre.

S
Sarah Chan

Mediocre service, very mediocre Asian food for not the most reasonable prices. The Nyonya Chicken Curry was decent, but other than that nothing was worth coming back for to be honest.

B
Brian Marzbar

Food wasn't great, tiny portions. Service charge added by default for table of 2 which is annoying. 3 different waiters came over within 5 minutes (one came over 3 times) to take our order when we kept saying we needed a bit more time. Only good thing was the presentation of the food. Wouldn't go again.

I wanted a quick meal before heading to an appointment. The prawn and chive dumplings were a bit gluggy, but ok. The tofu and vegetable stir fry was tasty, but had almost no vegetables in it whatsoever. The tofu was also deep fried, although it didn’t say this on the menu, despite the menu highlighting that the chicken was deep fried. What really annoyed me was that the discretionary service charge was added to my tap and go payment without me realizing. Really dishonest, especially as I ate alone and there was not really any service to speak of.

S
Saz

Mediocre food. Was disappointed when I ordered katsu curry, though a good portion it failed to have the classic taste. The dragon roll and mocktails were lovely. The Service was very slooooow we waited 25 minutes between the starters and mains. It wasn't even like the restaurant was busy, practically empty. The waiters were not very attentive and had to constantly try and get their attention. Won't be recommending or returning.

A
Andrea Takacs-Carvalho

I went with a party of 7 people, at a time when the restaurant wasn't busy. I can't explain why but the time difference between the first dish served and the last was about 20-30 minutes. So when one person was finishing his meal, the other finally received his dish. Also the food was quite tasteless and I also didn't receive one of the side dishes ordered. I am looking forward to never returning!

K
K Brown

I had a pho dish which was quite salty. They add a 12.5% service charge by default. I asked them to remove it from my bill. I said goodbye as I left and got no acknowledgement. The toilet could be kept cleaner. Won't be going back.

D
Diginiti

Stupid gourmet-style tiny portion-sized lamb rendang. I'm so disappointed! FAIL.

A
Anele Güm

We ordered chicken fried rice for 12.95 £. As I saw the prices I wanted to go but we stayed- which turned out to be a big mistake. First the dish was not well seasoned , especially for an asian place. Second we didn't get enough soy sauce. To be honest the hole food tatsted like an instant meal or like baby food. I know that you have to pay a tip. For 69 £ we had to pay 9£ tip extra. Honestly this is not justified. We payed for not existing service. The value-for-money ratio is not good. One star for the ambience but not more.

S

Got a takeaway chicken noodle meal.. One standard sized plastic tray. At £12.00 I thought it was very overpriced, bland and boring. Good job I had a fork with me because there was no cutlery or napkins in the bag. Never again.

K

i am not sure why chi kitchen seem to think they can keep deleting my reviews, when i am a rich billionaire directly supported by theresa may herself. perhaps it's because i keep serving up truths (which by the way still tastes better than the fake pho they served my friend, Got7). i must say i quite despise this place. they promised me 8 prawns and i only got three??? idk if the waiter ate some of them, or if you all failed your maths gcses and just can't count, but it was very disheartening. even so i could look past that until you guys tried charging us for water. £1 for a glass of water? that's how much it takes to sponsor a water pump for a child in Africa so quite frankly idk if you guys are money laundering or what. even beyond the food, service was terrible. the waiter had the audacity to say zaijan to me, and it was very anneyonging aka annoying that he would mistake my obviously Korean heritage for Chinese. it was only furthered when he came to collect the bill and did not bring a plate big enough for my £50 notes, so i did not give him a tip. pls up your standards chi kitchen or I'll report you to the health inspector, who i have good links with since they shut down my father's subway.
