Opinions de Ackee Bamboo Los Angeles
Pretty decent jamaican restaurant with authentic jamaican food and snacks.. their red peas vegetable soup was exceptional, got the oxtail with rice and peas, speak vegetables and plantain also the brown stew tilapia with rice and peas with steam veg, the soup was A1, the oxtail was okay, and the brown stew tilapia I was expecting a whole fish but it was only 1 fillet which really wasn't enough meat for the meal but overall the experience and food was good.
I went to Ackee Bamboo on a date and man, I loved it. The food is pretty affordable, you'll get A LOT (perhaps even enough for 2 people) for a mere $12-18. I ordered the vegetarian ackee plate, which was one of the more expensive menu options but every bite was worth it. Despite being a fruit, ackee had a savory taste and it was well spices. You also get a bunch of sides, including some tasty rice and peas, stewed vegetables (a little bland but nutritious), and festival bread (I'm obsessed!). My girlfriend ordered the curry chicken, which was also amazing. We also shared a vegetarian patty, which was filled with spinach or callaloo and had a delicious curry flavor. A must try place in South LA!
Discovering Akee Bamboo Jamaican restaurant is like finding a hidden treasure that takes you straight to the heart of Jamaica with its authentic fast casual dining experience. The moment you step into Akee Bamboo, you're greeted with vibrant Jamaican vibes, from the colorful décor that echoes the island's spirited culture to the warm, welcoming smile of the cashier, Lauren. The star of the menu has to be the generous Jerk Chicken plate, a dish that truly captures the essence of traditional Jamaican cuisine. The chicken is succulent on the inside with a flavor-packed exterior that leaves you craving more. Served alongside a good helping of rice and beans, fresh, tasty cabbage salad, and sweet fried plantains, each bite is a symphony of flavors that perfectly balances heat, sweet, and savory notes. Whether you're a longtime lover of Jamaican cuisine or a curious foodie (like me) looking to explore new flavors, the Jerk Chicken plate at Akee Bamboo is a must-try. It's no wonder this gem is beloved by locals and visitors alike. So the next time you're in the mood for some delicious Jamaican fare, let Akee Bamboo be your go-to destination.
Ackee Bamboo was delicious!!! Some of the best Jamaican food I have ever had. I ordered the Ackee Vegetarian Plate and my partner ordered the Oxtail Plate. Mine was going to take 20 minutes to prepare, so we walked around a nearby African market which was so fun. When we got back, our food was ready, hot, and fresh.
First time. I got the large jerk bbq chicken plate. It was “hot fire”. I passed out after. Worth the wait.
The food was delicious, I ordered the Brown Stew Snapper Fish, it was very tasty and flavorful, the serving size was very generous. Customer service was warm and friendly, definitely will be going back.
This restaurant is a five star This is the best African Jamaican restaurant Because they have vegetarian options and they have other options Most importantly, they make sure to accommodate us Best way possible All power to the people You will not be disappointed, juicy fat plates🫶🏿😋🥰🧘🏿♂️🌱😋😋
Acee Bamboo is my favorite Jamaican Restaurant in Los Angeles the food is amazing!!. The seasonings the flavor are perfect! Oxtails cooked to perfection! The rice cabbage plantains and festival bread are divine! My favorite Jamaican eatery hands down!!! Please open back up! Please!!!
Nobody is doing like them, taste authentic and portion size fantastic.
Had a great experience, love the new location in a great neighborhood. The staff is very friendly, and the food is delicious, will be going back for more of the best authentic Jamaican cuisine sure.
Best Jamaican spot in LA and im from NYC so i know good authentic Jamaican food. 10/10
I moved from Florida to California in 2018. This is the best and most authentic Jamaican spot I’ve been to since moving here. I’m Haitian and grew up with many Jamaicans and Jamaican restaurants around me. I cannot wait for them to open again
The jerk chicken dinner is divine! I love the fresh, hot, spicy flavors in the sauce and the cabbage. All the patties are delicious; vegetable, chicken and beef. Chef's kiss! The staff is very professional and friendly. The restaurant is always clean and neat.
Londoner! Heard about this place so I had to try it! Super delicious, tasty food with large portions! It knocked me out, I slept well that evening. It's got a nice community feel to it too.
This place is absolute fire!!! My parents have never had Jamaican Food and were absolutely blown away! Definitely adding to my list of regular spots!
10/10 new fave comfort food spot for sure!
this place was very busy on my first visit. the food is worth the wait though! it's a little spendy, but the amount of food is crazy 😯. I'm sure i ordered small, but that plate lasted two days. the red beans and rice with the salt fish are so good! the curry goat is delicious as well. the plantains were fried perfectly. you get sweet bread with the plate as well. grab the locally made ginger beer; it's so refreshing! i also had a spinach Jamaican patty while I waited for our food to prepare. i highly recommend and will visit again💛.
My husband and I come her often and they have the best Jamaican food we have ever had. The service is really good, and the plates are big. We are vegan and the Jackfruit platter is amazing. If you’re vegan then this is definitely worth to try.
This is the one y'all. Let's address the elephant in the room. The service is very slow! However, it's only slow though because they are very busy. That is the only thing slightly frustrating. Just give them some grace and I am certian you will love this resturant. The chicken was not dry at all. Ox tails = well seasoned and flavored. They have an "A" rating for cleanliness I believe it is, and it did seem that way inside. Portion size was very agreeable especially for the price. That went both ways, if you dined in, or had takeout. I didn't get any but they do have vegetarian and vegan options available.
Delicious new restaurant in the neighborhood - the chicken was literally falling off the bone. And these were the small portions! A little spicy, but that's what ice cream is for! 😉
If you're ready for fresh, authentic, delicious, Jamaican food you have to check out Ackee Bambo on Robertson. I promise you will not be disappointed. I ordered the large oxtail.. my God today..they were delectable, juicy, full of flavor and the best part they were WHOLE oxtails swimming in gravy, not cut in pieces. The rice and beans were tasty and with a good texture. The cabbage was fresh, the plantation were soft and sweet and let me not forget the festival bread it was crispy on the outside and soft inside best for sopping up that gravy😋 dont walk, but instead run down to there new location on Robertson you won't be disappointed. My hubby ordered the Iarge Jerk Chicken it was fire, not too spicy, but just right!! Oh I can't forget about Melissa she was my server very polite and attentive. They Top Notch!!
Excellent food, great value, and the staff is so friendly! Some of the best oxtails I’ve had in LA
Amazing food, great staff ackee and saltfish combo with the rice best rice I had in years. Freshly made. Would definitely return
The oxtail was delicious and the salad was good too. Portions were large. We split an oxtail for two. The flavors were off the charts. And a great way to end an afternoon of walking and shopping through Leimart park.
Came here for some Jamaican food after the MLK parade. It's a nice little restaurant. And the food was really good. Shared a beef patty with my buddy and I had the curry chicken wrap. Service was friendly and quick. Will come back.
Huge portions and the best Jamaican food I’ve ever had. It’s even better than the food I had in Jamaica. The vegan options are ridiculously delicious and the portion sizes are huge. We had the small boxes and it was enough to food us twice each. Also the hot apple and spicy melon ginger beers are a solid 11/10. Takes a bit of time to recover the food but the wait is well worth it.

Great great food! The jerk chicken special on Sundays is amazing and I’m excited to come back and try their other offerings. They also have ting :) The best partner to Jamaican food.
We too the food out snd it was really delicious! We got oxtail, chicken curry, and jerk chicken and a vegetable patty. Everything was so good!
I loved ordering from them when they were at leimert! So glad I was able to find them again!
I was so excited to see this place pop up near my apartment! We went the other night and weren't disappointed. Not only is the food amazing (we got the jerk chicken and the tilapia), but the portions were very generous. It's a great value for how much food you get considering we had leftovers that made a few more meals later in the week. The staff was very kind, and the food was fast, hot, and delicious! I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.
What a wonderful place. I was extremely hesitant to try a cuisine that I had been aware had spicier dishes than I'm accustomed to, but I visited anyway. Melissa was so friendly and patient with me. I took her suggestions and tried the chicken curry and chicken stew as well as the mac and cheese. So flavorful and delicious! I will definitely be back. Thank you Melissa for your patience, understanding and kindness. I'll see you soon! 🫶🏽
They catered a friends wedding a couple of months ago and as an L.A. native who enjoys Jamaican cusine, I'm almost embarrassed to say that I had never experienced their food before then. I was missing out but no longer. I've ordered a from them a few times since and they have never disappointed. Be ready for an abundance of food! The jerk chicken is phenomenal and my favorite sides are their plantain (I need more with my entree!), and festival bread. Love the rice and peas too. It's all flavorful and enough to last me for a couple of meals. *I got delivery so I didn't rate on service or atmosphere*
Was working at the coffee shop next door and decided to stop by for lunch…so glad I did!!!! I ordered the curry chicken plate and it was seriously delicious. Such a large portion too! Will definitely be going back here.
Fantastic warm service and a great menu of flavorful food! Soup rich with flavor, and ample portions.

It's very good. I think a little pricey for what you get though. We have a combo Jerk chicken, curry goat and rice & peas. Coupled with, wings, 2 patties and root beer, around $70 so not sure. Worth a try for sure, the flavour alone is great.
Delicious Jamaican food. Portion is huge. It is fresh. You definitely have to try the ackee. Loved the vegan option.

The service is nice, the quantity and presentation of the food was great but the quality of the food could be way better. The sauce the oxtails were cooked in was entirely too OILY. The brown stew chicken was extremely DRY and sauce was chalky; so much so that it was difficult to chew the food. Maybe they served us a bad batch of chicken and oxtails, but I have eaten at several jamaican/caribbean food restaurants and I've not encountered this issue of overly dry/over-cooked meat and/or oily food. I may visit them again and try the same dish or another item to give it another try. I'd have to say I was dissapointed because I have heard great things about this place.

Unfortunately the jerk chicken salad gave me diarrhea. I believe it was the middle aged woman who prepared it
October 24th 2024. I followed the LA try guy's adviceto this place called Akee Bamboo in Leimert Park to try out the Jamaican oxtails and curry goat with white rice steamed cabbage and jerk chicken salad. I want to start off positive by saying the atmosphere was great the restaurant was clean the service was great. However the food was not great the white rice was so mushy could have been mashed potatoes and the curry goat and the oxtails and the jerk chicken all have the same flavor to it nothing different the steamed cabbage had no seasoning to it. If you were looking for authentic Jamaican food this is not the place. I will not be returning to this place if you are looking for something to fill your belly I would go here but if you were looking for flavor and quality I would not good luck.
