Lakefront Restaurant offers a fine-dining experience with a rustic lodge atmosphere and lakeside views. Many praise the elk medallions, cocktails, and knowledgeable servers like Sarah and sommelier Joshua. However, some find it overpriced with inconsistent food quality, especially since Mammoth Mountain took ownership.

Beautiful Lakeside Restaurant that's stood the test of time and has only gotten better. This rustic wood garnished gem has everything you need and oozes Atmosphere. My wife and I spent our Anniversary enjoying the bar/lounge while our table was set. Once seated started with the Diver Scallop app before we moved on to the Elk Medallions over Risotto, and a Bison (osso bucco style) entre. The Elk was perfect! We then washed it down with a incredible 2017 bottle of Ridolfi Brunello. It was magical. We look forward to enjoying this beautiful place again in the winter.
Unexpectedly great. First time staying at the lodge. It is very old school, but lodgy and cool. I didn’t know they had a restaurant so decided to try it. It was super cool. Definitely romantic…..too bad my wife wasn’t with me. Everything on the menu looked good. I had the summer salad and the sea bass. Both were quite good. The waitress and others were fantastic!
We came here for lunch and the food was so delicious (especially the soup), that we just had to return for dinner. Dinner was even more delicious... Paired with incredible ambience, including a cozy, intimate dining room, local piano player with stories all evening, and artisan cocktails. We would travel to Mammoth just to come to this restaurant again. Highly recommend!
WOW WOW WOW!!! We really lucked out finding the Lakefront through a Google Maps search while staying up in Mammoth Lakes. We were hungry and wanted something unique for dinner. We arrived to Tamarack Lodge an hour before the restaurant opened, and all that night's bookings were already taken. The front desk staff was friendly and gracious, they built a nice fire in the huge lodge fireplace and invited us to stay awhile (the wind was howling outside across the lake!). We decided to just relax and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere. Eventually, the lodge lobby bar opened and we enjoyed great drinks (wonderful domestic and international wine selections). After about an hour wait, they let us know there had been a cancellation in the Lakefront and we were seated for dinner! EVERYTHING about the meal was perfect - gracious and knowledgeable servers, beautiful view of the lake and trees, delicious and unique meal. All our servers were friendly and attentive without being intrusive (perfect timing). I think my favorite food of the meal was the asparagus bisque soup, but honestly everything we ordered was amazing. Even the butter with the fresh warm bread was unusual (salty and sweet). I had the berkshire pork chop with blueberry/ginger sauce, my husband had the rock sugar braised short rib. Both were cooked to perfection, had interesting flavors, and were beautiful to look at. There is something on the menu for adventurous eaters, as well as for non-meat eaters too. My only regret was that I just couldn't manage to try the deserts. I'm positive they would have been just as delicious as the entire meal. We were never rushed, I felt we could have stayed longer if we had wanted to even though it was a very small place with a waiting list of reservations. We left feeling relaxed, content, well-cared for, and well fed too. A wonderful dining experience and we will most definitely be back the next time we are in Mammoth! Thank you to all for the great experience. Kudos to the chef!
The elk medallions deserve their legend status. Equally legendary: the risotto underneath; the wines selected by sommelier Joshua; the chocolate mousse topped with raspberry compote; the fine touches, like the honey complementing the balsamic vinegar salad dressing. This was an experience!
We had an exceptional meal at the Lakefront Restaurant at Tamarack Lodge just outside of Mammoth. The beat salad was amazing. The squash soup was fantastic, and the elk was spot on. Our server Sarah was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. The menu is short, but there are plenty of options. The wine list is very strong, with decent prices. We were there on a snowy night, so we did not have much of a view, but the view of the lake is wonderful. If you are in Mammoth, this is a real gem.
Took my family here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and they did not disappoint. The setting was perfect as it was snowing in April and we had the center table facing the widows that oversee the (frozen) lake. The duck was the star of the evening but the you can’t go wrong with the short rib either. The pot de crème and lava cake brought it home. This place will definitely be on our list of restaurants to visit when we annual spring break in Mammoth.
Absolutely gorgeous! First of all we took a drink in a cocoon room and hopefully we've had the chance to have a dinner in the restaurant. The cooking of the lamb as a starter is worthy of the finest restaurants. The elk médaillons are absolutely perfects. Furthermore, the chef combines flavors and high quality products and the choice of wines is made with finesse. It is a delight for the taste buds. Thank you for this moment of happiness
Fine dining in the middle of outdoor magic. What a treat to get a first class meal while we were camping close by. Fabulous old lodge vide with a high end menu. Great cocktails too.
Absolutely wonderful. The old lodge atmosphere was comfortable, the service impeccable, and the food delicious. Pics posted are only 1/2 plates, which were excellently split. Highly recommend.

Food selection was wonderful. I had the mushroom soup and rainbow trout. Both tasted amazing and presentation was excellent. Service seemed a bit understaffed but our waiter was great and very knowledgeable. I'd definitely come here again.
I understand that it's Mammoth and there's the high altitude, Mammoth tax ! But the price is ridiculous! $60 entree? $16 bread basket? We knew before getting there, so we wanted to try anyway, waiting to be blown away by the food... Well, we were not! Food was good, serving size really good, plating nice, service good... But not a $60 entree, sorry.

Way overpriced for very mediocre "fine dining". Sweet potato soup and bone in pork chop were heavily salted and not special at all. I had high hopes for this quaint, cozy, and well serviced restaurant. The wine recommendation and cocktails were excellent. Sadly I will not be returning until there is a chef change.

This is a good place to eat, however it is owned by Mammoth Mountain. The food taste and quality really dropped once Mammoth ski report (or their parent company) took over the food. Avoid their lunch service. Not good and very limited lunch options. Dinner isn't too bad. But the prices are way too high. They really get you. I usually try to figure out somewhere else to go.
Dinner was nothing special and over priced. Had the asparagus soup. Needed to be strained. Very stringy. Lobster tagliatelle was very heavy. Pasta was fresh which was nice. Make sure to share, big portions. Wine was marked up at least 3x. Positive: Service was great and atmosphere beautiful overlooking Twin Lakes.
I feel inclined to share our experience at this restaurant. My husband and I finally visited after waiting a bite (due to the high prices), hoping I’d find our new favorite Mammoth restaurant… unfortunately, we were seriously disappointed. I do not mind paying top dollar for these special ingredients offered on this menu. However, this was not the problem. Each dish we received, although presented well, seemed to get more bland and underseasoned. We started with the mushroom soup and ($16!) bread basket which was fine and worth it, yummy bread. Second course we ordered lobster ravioli and gem salad. I’ve never had a more lacking ravioli. Hardly any lobster and simply no flavor. The salad was fine but again, overpriced for what you get. I would imagine more decadence than a squirt of balsamic over 5 lettuce leaves and a few nuts. We had caviar prior so the main dish we (thankfully, despite the waitress trying to make us order 2) decided to share was the black cod and it was equally as underwhelming… it was a mash of mystery ingredients and an overcooked, under glazed piece of cod. I opted out of dessert (and that’s saying something since I’m pregnant!) and my husband also mentioned the beer tap needs cleaning. I can’t help but wonder if we made the wrong decision by ordering seafood. I’m not sure. As someone who has traveled and visited many 5 star restaurants and an experienced chef, I feel this place has some updates to do and hope they take customer feedback into account! I would loved to have had a different experience but it is what it is!
Very overpriced for the quality. $36 for only 2 scallops is ridiculous, and the $60+ steak was nothing special. Not impressed.
I ordered rack of lamb medium rare. Server said, “Of course! That’s how we prepare it!” It shows up looking beautiful, but more done than medium. I send it back. The replacement is barely less done (pictured edge was close, but rest was at least medium). Gave up complaining. Didn’t really want that to be the focus of the night. Other dishes ranged from really great (carrot amuse bouche) to really good (veal tenderloin and cheeks) to acceptable (cauliflower soup, bread, and rocket salad). In general, dishes lacked seasonings. If they didn’t screw up my lamb chops twice, the meal would have been much more pleasurable and I could overlook the other issues. Don’t really like going out for $400 meals for two and being disappointed.

The only thing that connects them with fine dining is the limited menu and limited seating. The fish reeked of swamp and the piece was clearly not worth $50—it was right near the tail. It's okay if it's tasty, but this was terrible. The quail was tough, stuffed with undercooked vegetables, and the quesnois was tasteless. The scallops were decent, but for $36—two pieces—well, okay. The mushroom risotto was good, but we couldn't taste the mushrooms. But the worst part!!! They brought our two-year-old reheated, stale pasta with a distinct moldy taste, stuck together because it was reheated!!! Is this fine dining??? We complained, and 15 minutes later they brought us normal pasta. But not all parents try food from their child's plate! Cold cucumber soup - pure garlic. It's more like a fish sauce than a soup. We'll never go back. And we don't recommend it.
Very limited menu choices, extremely expensive for the amount of food served. Emphasis on pretty food. Extra charge to split a salad. They charge for bread. Food was very pretty but tasted average. $100 per person and left hungry. Given that it’s in a very family oriented hotel/cabin setting, it’s a shame that this is the only dinner option on site. Not family friendly at all. The restaurant at Convict Lake is 20 minutes away and a much better value.
This is a beautiful spot, but the people and service is horrific. First, try calling. They don’t answer the phone. You must leave a message or text and ask for a reservation. I did so on a Sunday afternoon asking for a reservation the following Friday or Saturday with time flexibility. I did not hear back until Wednesday at 4pm when they texted to say they were booked. The general manager Joshua Hernandez was unresponsive and unconcerned when I expressed my disappointment at the way my reservation request was unfulfilled and unanswered. These Mammoth locals truly hate their customers. They want your money, but they treat you with disrespect and disdain.
I have been dining at Lakefront Restaurant for over 50 years. Meals have been consistently superb. Not sure what has happened but dining on 01.27.26 was awful. Food was mediocre at best and something anyone with a touch of culinary skill could have bested in their own kitchen without much effort. Certainly not what one would consider "fine dining". To add insult to injury, the prices were excessive, including $18 for a bread basket. Seriously??? I am sorry to say that without a full change to the kitchen, a annual tradition of visiting the Lakefront for dinner is at an end

BAD. Nobody filled our empty water glasses. They said there is live music. You cannot hear the music from the dining room, as it is in the bar. Food was way overpriced. The vegetarian dinner was about 4 cups of rice with onions, celery, and carrots and 3 pieces of asparagus on top. Mostly rice. "Do you have any food allergies?" The question they asked every patron. How silly. If someone has food allergies, they will order accordingly.
