Came here for breakfast this past Friday. BE AWARE YOU NEED A RESERVATION. We sat in the patio and it was lovely. Its an indoor outdoor feeling space with trees inside the courtyard feeling area. I loved it. Service was quick. We wanted a certain table since it seemed pretty slow and we were told it was reserved but nobody came the entire time we were there so Id say that was only complaint. They kept waters and drinks full. We had eggs benedict which was standard but so delicious. Husband had BLT which he loved. Hashbrown cooked crispy just the way they should be. I want to come here for dinner, I bet the trees with the lights one just make it magical outside in the patio
Had breakfast here for the first time, it was outstanding and great value. I had the egg & bacon breakfast croissant with grilled fingerling potatoes. The food was exquisite. The waitress Jessica provided excellent service. The ambience is second to none, we sat outside under the trees mister and air and one could not ask for a better view of the semi tropical gardens, pool and tennis courts. I highly recommend this place for breakfast. Planning on going to lunch there tomorrow. It is a must if you have not been. My husband had the blueberry pancakes which we also delicious.
Looking for a great breakfast spot? Well, Spencer’s fits the bill! The restaurant itself is beautiful and relaxing! Try to sit by the trees, it’s such a nice and relaxing experience! The food is very good too! The staff is very thoughtful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict or Corned Beef Hash and Eggs! They are delicious! Also, the onion soup here is some of the best I’ve ever had, no joke!
Simon was incredibly attentive, he was sweet and kind. I always appreciate when I can have a wonderful meal with the service to match.
This was our first time to Spencer’s and we went on a rainy Sunday. We were delighted to find their $42 - 3 course Sunday brunch plus glass of champagne or mimosa. What a great value! I had the tuna Niçoise salad as my main and my friend had the smoked salmon Benedict - both of which were excellent and really good sized portions. Chocolate cake was the dessert of the day and it was delightful. We look forward to returning again!
I had my wedding anniversary dinner here in July. The atmosphere was great. We sat outdoors, the misters made the evening very comfortable. The vibe was friendly and relaxed. The staff very friendly. The food was well prepared, my only complaint was the appetizer was a little too big for 2 of us to share, but otherwise very delicious. I highly recommending going, and I am looking forward to visiting again soon.
Went for brunch early morning on a Sunday in May. We'd hiked Cactus to Clouds the day before, so pretty tired and hungry. Really enjoyed the food - fried oysters, risotto, pan-fried liver and bacon. Service was friendly. The setting is quite nice too - right under the big mountain, and at the end of the road.
Always a lovely experience. This time we brought friends who were in town and they enjoyed it just as much as my husband and I do when we visit Palm Springs. The menu is seasonal, always fresh and exciting. Despite the heat we sat outside under the famous big tree as we'd brought our dogs. (Spencer's is named after the owner's dog so this is one of the few high end dog-friendly restaurants in the area!) It was a beautiful meal followed by drinks and dessert, our server Robert was very sweet. They even brought out a dessert for our special occasion. We plan to come back again and again!
I had a very tasty Wedge Salad. But it could have been even better served with actual blue cheese instead of a dressing. The portions were generous and I truly enjoyed the Glazed Porkchop served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was a nice addition to have it served with chopped tomatoes, candied walnuts and bacon. We had a very windy night but it really just added to the beautiful atmosphere and friendly patrons. The staff did their very best to keep everyone happy and removed ficus tree remnents ASAP. I would very much enjoy returning.
Went here for my bachelorette dinner. Food was AMAZING! We opted to do their fixe prix menu which came with an appetizer, main and dessert for $59USD. The portions were massive and we ended up taking half of our mains home. The best appetizers were the ahi tuna and calamari. I got the braised short ribs and the meat was fork tender - no knife needed, the potatoes were so buttery and fluffy. As dessert I got the trio sorbet, but some of my girlies got the lemon meringue pie and that was absolutely delicious (mini personal pie). Overall such a great atmosphere and phenomenal dining experience, try to get their patio, it's gorgeous!
One of the best places for dinner in Palm Springs. The vibe isn’t hip or trendy, but the quality of food, friendly service, and old-school classy ambience puts it at the top of my list for a great dinner date. Must order: the colossal shrimp cocktail $42… I would come back just for this. The prix fixe menu ($60) is a great deal as well. The ahi tuna app was a tad sinewy and could use more subtle sauces like ponzu as opposed to the standard soy sauce/sriracha. Between the duck, rack of lamb, and steak we ordered as entrees, everything was cooked perfectly and portions were generous. Lamb wasn’t gamey at all, and tender to bite right off the bone. Mashed potatoes were fantastic. My only comment would be that their green beans felt plainly blanched and need more flavor. They have a beautiful tree-canopied patio with misters that really feels like you’re dining in someone’s backyard (just be careful of mosquitos at night — I recommend the restaurant add some big catchers). With the misters, it was comfortable enough to eat outside even tho it was 100 degrees at 8pm.
If I lived in Palm Springs, I would find it hard not to eat here every night! The service was excellent, and the food was as magical as the atmosphere. Most of my party chose the short ribs. They did not disappoint. The depth of flavor and tenderness of the meat in its savory sauce with mashed potatoes was perfection. I had the Caesar salad, which was dressed perfectly and so fresh. The banana cream pie dessert was good, but I wished it had more custard to offset the amount of whipped cream on top. The banana flavor didn't stand out but it was still tasty. Spencer's served up an experience that I will treasure and yearn for as I head back to the East Coast.
A delightful dining experience. From the crab cakes to the Wellington sliders. Everything was a treat. The Matthatan was to die for. Reserve thr patio, it's amazing views and great atmosphere.
Found this place online and it does not disappoint. Stunning backyard with giant trees & romantic lighting. Food was excellent. We got the prix-fixe menu for $38. Came with soup du jour (mushroom truffle oil soup), entree (sesame crusted salmon with coconut rice and garlic asparagus), and dessert (pot de creme & cookies). Ordered the $2 drink on the menu and actually really liked it. Refreshing, not too heavy. Perfect on a hot day! They serve bread on the house that was clearly home made and delicious. Highly recommend reservations. We had reservations at 7:30pm and were seated immediately, but I noted the restaurant (indoor & patio) was packed. Recommend sitting outdoors on patio. They have misters in summer and in wintertime over 30 heaters. You can valet for $3 or self-park for free on the roadside.
One of the finest restaurants in Palm Springs with a picturesque setting. Went during Restaurant Week with friends and had the Sonoma Duck Breast with Kung Pao Calimari and the Smores dessert. My friends had the steak, Caesar salad and coconut sorbet. Everything was excellent. Perfect place to take a date. Came again in 2025 with a date, and she was very impressed. Our waiter is excellent!
This was my first time visiting Spencer’s and loved it. The food was flavorful and tasty. We went here brunch and best brunch I have had in a while. The only issue we had the white sangria was organs and bla. The resturant is beautiful especially if you sit outside under the beautiful trees. The staff was professional and on top of it. We also got sat down right away when we got there. They do check Covid vaccines so make sure you bring it with you.
Nestled at the bottom of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountain ranges in Palm Springs, sits a unique restaurant in both looks and feel. Located on a quite residential street sits Spencer’s. The look is that you have been invited to a friends house for dinner and the feel is the dinner will take place on the friends tree lined patio. You walk inside and are greeted by friendly staff and are seated in a cozy corner of the patio next to a fire pit, surrounded by trees decorated with twinkling lights. Spencer’s is an elegant restaurant that serves upscale food that will please anybody’s palate. Reasonably priced in today’s era of high restaurant prices, with excellent and attentive service by all staff members. I would recommend you get reservations for your visit because Spencer’s can get very busy for lunch and dinner. I hope you enjoy your visit and food as much as I did and I look forward to a return visit.
I love Spencer's. The service is always excellent, the food is always excellent. The atmosphere is classy, yet casual. A little loud, but that's because everyone is enjoying themselves. I had the liver and bacon this time. It comes with creamy mashed potatoes, asparagus, grilled onions, and course fresh cooked bacon. You can tell the liver is a quality product. It was so tender, perfectly cooked. Had a Calamari appetizer but forgot to take a photo. It was also excellent.
Desert Dweller here into the food scene and friends treated me to birthday brunch here today! Fabulous! Spencer’s has a reputation for a tasty Benedict (smoked salmon, crab cakes options) and I had the pleasure of discovering crab cakes Benedict. Rosemary nightshades were fabs and Benny Lived up to the local hype!
What a treat this was! We were able to sit on the patio, plenty of heaters so it was warm and cozy. The atmosphere is like dining in a beautiful garden. The service is excellent. We tried the calamari appetizer, spicy and delicious! My husband loved his sea bass, cooked perfectly. Really nice also was valet parking for $3. We highly recommend Spencer's! It's a special occasion place for us.
We just love everything about this place. We enjoyed a beautiful day with lunch on their patio. The additional patio space was just beautiful and all the tables were nicely separated. The lunch menu has a wonderful selection and our choices were all superior. For example, the egg salad sandwich was sooo good, as were the 2 fish dishes that we tried: King Salmon and the white fish. I'd never tried the French fries before...excellent!! The salads were wonderful,, too, and large portions. Everything is so beautifully presented.
As if Spencer's really needs another five-star review? But allow me to indulge... Visiting friends in Palm Springs from Virginia, I was wowed by every element of this upscale eatery. From the moment the four of us pulled up, to being greeted, seated and welcomed by a grinning waiter, all "first impressions" were stellar. The ambiance cannot be overstated... with tables set upon a generous patio, with trees providing natural shade overhead and our fellow clientele taking pride in appearance (thankfully, no sweats & t-shirts, as is so common across the board anymore). Oh, and the food? I had liver & onions (to the chagrin of my lunch dates, who are not fans of the "fragrance"), which was out of this world... taking an often pedestrian dish and turning it into a delicacy. Portions are outrageously generous, as well. Spencer's, provided my best meal amid my week-long visit in PS.
We went for Valentine's Day and it was super busy. In spite of that, our server did an awesome job, all food arrived in a timely manner and all was delicious.
What a gem!! By far the best restaurant in Palm Springs! We've been coming here for over a decade and Thérèse the manager always makes us feel Ike we are being welcomed into her home and provides us with attention and care. She remembers us every time we come and makes sure to have *our table* ready for us. Our server Delphina is a true true love who actually seems to cherish providing the best service! Omg whatever you're paying her please pay more lol...don't ever let her leave! As always the Crisp Skin Whitefish was delicious and my husband's duck was perfection. There's no other place in town where service and food combine in all its perfect harmony to provide a fantastic dining experience. We got engaged here, had our wedding reception here and will continue to visit every time we come to town. Thank you Spencer's staff ❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spencer’s Palm Springs Spencer’s Palm Springs is chic, modern, and undeniably stylish. With stunning mountain views, palm trees swaying in the desert breeze, and a vibrant atmosphere, it captures the essence of Palm Springs perfectly. Evening receptions under the desert sky are always full of energy and romance. It’s the perfect blend of elegance and relaxed desert vibes. ✨ If you’re planning a wedding at Spencer’s, I’d love to create images that capture the modern magic of Palm Springs.
This is such a beautiful place to dine, especially if you can get an outside table. Inside is also nice, but doesn't have near the ambiance of the patios. I have dined here a number of times and never left disappointed at anything I had - from apps, to salads to fish or steak. For some reason Google has is listed as a "$$" restaurant which is a bit misleading in my opinion. I find it to be more of a $$$$ place, but worth the money nevertheless. We had a reservation so there was no wait.
Love the atmosphere of the patio! Food is good, they do a 3 course prefix which i love doing or you can order a la carte. Nice white table cloth style restaurant. The female manager who helps at the host stand is a little rude but the rest of the staff is friendly. Valet is also hit or miss here. I saw an suv hit one of the cars in the parking next to the restaurant and they essentially said it wasnt their problem. Dress code is super strict so make sure you are up to "the tennis court standards" as the manager likes to say. Which is sad because after she was judging me for my volcom shirt she then sat us at a dirty table. Not sure if that was deliberate or not but it definitely killed the vibe for the birthday dinner. Other visits I had a much more pleasant experience and also the wait staff did an incredible job which is why I didnt take a star off. I will still come back to this place and still recommend it. Just bewarned the manager is very snobbish.
We came here while on vacation to celebrate my birthday with a nice meal. We were not disappointed! We had to wait a bit for our table with a reservation for two, but not excessively. The dining area is gorgeous with an inside/outside feel and lots of beautiful plants. It was very busy, but our server was attentive and professional. And the food was amazing. My pork chop entree was delicious and I really enjoyed the tuna tartare appetizer! We will return.
We had an amazing brunch here. We made a reservation the day of so we were a bit worried but we ended up with a great table in their cute outdoor area. The ambience was great, but the service was even better. Michelle was perfect in every way. She didn’t rush us, but was always there when we had a question or needed something. I was especially delighted when she switched my iceless water for a fresh, cold water with lots of ice. Overall, we had a great time and are excited to return the next time we are back in Palm Springs.
This was my first time to Spencer’s. We came for a birthday dinner. I wish I could give them 10 stars because the night out was an “experience.” The service and the staff are top notch and the cocktails were phenomenal. It’s one of the only few restaurants that has blue cheese olives when we order our very dirty martinis. The seafood tower with the coconut/pineapple shrimp, the scallops with the capers, the calamari. It was exceptional. My ribeye steak was absolutely to die for, and was cooked to perfection. Everyone’s meal was cooked very well and seasoned perfectly. Yes, it’s pricey to go out. The price point versus what you get in the whole package and experience, is more than worth it.
Great ambience with indoor/outdoor dining seating options. We chose outdoor. Food was excellent: lobster potstickers, salmon carpaccio, rack of lamb, filet mignon with sides of green beans and twice baked potatoes. Everything was served hot and cooked to order. Drinks were good but not great; service was also good but not great. Overall a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend and come back again.
Absolutely amazing lunch on the patio (the best restaurant patio in the area). The Beef Wellington sandwich (thinly sliced beef with liver pate and mushrooms) is out of this world. Add their world class onion rings and you experience an edible masterpiece. On the other hand, you could have the crabcake benedict. Take it from my wife who is a true benedict snob: it is the best crab benedict ever! Two incredibly light crab cakes topped with eggs which can only be descibed as cloudlike (light and airy). Be sure to save room for the heavenly tiramisu or creme brule, both served with the freshest frui and incredibly light whipped creme. An absolute culinary must in Palm Springs.
We came for the food, but we stayed because I’m pretty sure our server, Michelle, is a foodie savant. She is effortlessly beautiful—and was efficient in a way that felt like she was reading our minds. I thought about wanting another Stella Artois, and there she was. It’s a level of service that’s borderline psychic. The food? Absolutely flawless. Every bite was on point-I almost forgot to check if any celebrities were sitting at the next table. If you want to feel like a high-roller, book a table via OpenTable and ask for Michelle at Hostess stand. Five stars. Michelle for President
This was a lovely dining experience in Palm Springs. The food was excellent, and although not cheap, the prix fixe menu offered added value. We all enjoyed our dishes as well as the ambiance. One thing I might mention, the servers should remember to hold silverware by the handles only, 3 times during the meal when our server handed spoons and forks to us, she held them by the end we use to eat with. This feels especially important in a restaurant where we paid a premium to dine.
First time there and will definitely return. Food was amazing. Had a minor issue with my black and blue steak, however it was resolved immediately by the roaming service supervisor. Ambience is incredible, the restaurant is alive as soon as you walk in the door.
Short review: Excellent service, excellent food, excellent no-rush atmosphere. This was my first time visiting Spencer's and I will surely be back. We had 12:30 reservations, arrived at about 12:05, and we're promptly seated. The restaurant was pretty busy, but they found us our table. We sat on the patio. The atmosphere was great. It's a dog-frie fly restaurant and there were a handful of very well behaved dogs there. I even saw a waiter bring one a bowl of water. I had the braised short rib. It was perfect. The meat was tender but not mushy. The reduction it is served with was perfectly seasoned, and the mushrooms melted in my mouth. I wish there were more mushrooms. The carrots and other veggies were okay. The mashed potatoes were delightful. My friend had the risotto and although I didn't personally taste it, he said he loved it and would absolutely order again. I also had a virgin watermelon mojito which was quite good. Will definitely visit again.
Spencer's is my go-to restaurant when I'm visiting Palm Springs. Great food, service and atmosphere on the patio under the trees. The Double Breast of Chicken is a favorite and the Liver and Bacon is great too. The Basil Faulty cocktail is a winner. I usually make a reservation, but they will usually fit you in without one. Valet parking is $3 and there is usually street parking too. Spencer's is an upscale restaurant that attracts an older crowd. Children under 12 are not allowed, but dogs of all ages are welcome and are frequent visitors. Service is friendly and unrushed. If you go back the next day, they usually remember you. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Five Stars all the way. I recommend.
I was there with a very large group for a business dinner. We had a preselected menu from which to select an appetizer, main course, and dessert so I did not see the entire menu. However, everyone's food was outstanding no matter what they ordered. I was with someone with a food allergy who had trouble picking from the preselected list. The waiter went to the chef three times to check on ingredients. He finally gave her a full dining menu so she could select something. My dining partner was very grateful for the extraordinary attention to her needs. Great food, very attentive staff. I am a big water drinker and my class never got less than an inch from the top. Unfortunately, as are so many restaurants these days, it was very loud. However, it was also because every table was occupied. We had some "plus-ones" dining separately from the business group and their experience was just as outstanding as ours. I tried to go back on another night on my own, but I couldn't get a reservation.
Enjoyed the atmosphere of this iconic restaurant. Our server Serge was great. Food was good, as we went relatively light. Crab cakes, shrimp, and calamari were great as were the cooked oysters. A little disappointed with their bourbon selection as they were out of several brands we like. Patio is the way to go.
I take my mom there every May for Mothers day. The food is great, the waiters make you feel like a celebrity and the outdoor dining and latio area is my all time favorite. The waiter took a picture of mom and I and was very pleasant. We love the lunch special where you can get everything for $ 31.00 please continue that. As long as that place remains open which is i hope forever, we will be loyal customers.
We have been to this amazing restaurant at the base of the mountains near downtown Palm Springs several times for lunch or dinner. We enjoy the ambiance of the outdoor seating areas. Service is usually very good. The fried oysters were amazing! We also really enjoyed the salmon entree and the mushroom risotto. They have a great wine selection, but you can BYOB for a $30 corkage fee. It’s a little hard to get reservations here, because it is hugely popular! So, plan well in advance and make your reservations online as soon as you can. The only thing that keeps us from returning here more often is the prices, but their prices are about the same as other similar restaurants downtown.
I had a date night with my wife at this restaurant, and it was an amazing experience. I was able to make a reservation without any issues. They had affordable valet parking. The service was very friendly and attentive. Never felt like I had to wait for the server, he was always checking if we needed anything. The food was delicious, I had the pork chop and it's one of the best ones I've had. My wife had the double chicken breast, which she enjoyed very much. We also had the Desert Sunrise cocktail, and it was very good. For dessert, we had the molten lava cake, and it was very good. Overall I would highly recommend it if you want a place to go for a nice, romantic date.

Arrival was challenging… staff wasn’t the most welcoming and seemed stressed out, MOST IMPORTANTLY GET RID OF THAT HORRIFIC GLASS BARRIER AT HOST STAND! That COVID-era glass barrier isn’t becoming of such a fine Palm Springs restaurant and felt like a drive thru window! Also at arrival we were asked to wait, and there was no option to grab a cocktail while waiting? Another challenging item was the kitchen timing… The couple seated after us by about 5 minutes (and didn’t have reservations) were also served appetizers and dinner before us… on the surface it seemed like we were forgotten about. I shared our experience after dinner quite constructively with the manager Therese, and she was FABULOUS. She invited us back and assured us she would make sure it was a better experience. I also let her know that the Facebook group “Gay Men of Palm Springs” rated Spencer’s #1, and that wasn’t our experience. Our reservations were 7:15pm 8/10. Our server was incredible and the food was amazing.
This place is so fancy be prepared to be gatekeeped if you aren’t wearing a $100+ dress shirt. Yeah you should dress nice for this place but plenty of people don’t and it is cold outside…their website didn’t specify the amount of heat lamps they have (they have it covered in heat lamps). We had a 1 star experience in the beginning of our dine in journey as they required us to show our vaccine cards. No where on their website does it say this, and other fine dining restaurants did not ask us to show this as a “city mandate” requirement. The front reception was the rudest lady from a restaurant I’ve spoken with at this price point and at lower price points. I gave better service working at jack in the box. No eye contact, wanted us to sit by the bathroom, rude tone of voice, I was going to take my wife somewhere else. However once we sat down after showing our vaccine card the experience changed. We had the nicest waitress, created small talk, and gave us a complimentary ice cream to celebrate our recent wedding. We’re new money and sorry we look different but we can afford a place like this with a 20+% tip unlike most of your clients. The waitress saved this review she was a delight. Edit: our waitress was Delphina, thank you and hopefully you will still be there if we return!
I was going to give this 3 stars as one of the hostess/receptionist ladies just gave me a weird vibe. She just seemed way to serious about her job or really just hated it. She should respond to people when they talk or at least smile. Luckily, Betty saved the day with great service. The portions were a good size and everything was cooked perfectly.
Excellent food. Good menu prix fixe for dinner. Service somewhat slow. Unfortunately, lots of customers come with their dog. Next time, I’ll bring my cat. !
We've been here a couple of times now for both brunch and dinner. There is a lovely atmosphere with openings to outdoor seating and a great view of the mountain they light up at night. The salads are fresh and creative, the steaks and short ribs are tender and well seasoned. The desserts are presented beautifully. My only hope is that they modernize and update their menu with some low carb sides and options. It's a lot of potatoes, breads, and very indulgent choices. I just don't really eat like that, so mashed cauliflower, a greater variety of vegetables, and newer styles of side options would really be great to see. This is a very nice place to take someone for a nice, intimate visit.
I have been eating at Spenser’s since it opened February 2000. I’ve always enjoyed it and even enjoyed it again tonight. But when I made my reservation, I completely forgot about confirming a table in a specific outdoor area of the restaurant. So we ended up outside at table 80. You absolutely don’t want table 80. Ever. You end up sitting 1/2 way into the FOH (front of the house). A very heavily traffic area with waiters, hostesses, and customers coming in and going out. My chair was kicked several times. But worse than that you’re also sitting right next to the small outdoor bar and tonight we had the added pleasure of listening to a drunk woman with a loud screechy voice. Having our own conversation at the table was difficult because of that. Anyway, I do recommend the restaurant; consistent good food and service but be aware of table 80, the worst seat in the house.
Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 First time at Spencer’s and it was a great experience overall. The place is absolutely beautiful and the service was excellent! The food came out hot and fast and was really delicious, however, everything needed salt! That’s the only complaint. Definitely recommend for a date, anniversary, or birthday.
The restaurant had a classy vibe with perfect lighting...warm and soft, not too bright, which made it just right for a romantic night out. The bartender was super friendly and mixed some amazing cocktails, and the service overall was spot on. The lamb chops were tender and full of flavor, and the gazpacho was really refreshing. The only letdown was the carbonara. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be authentic when I saw peas in it ... pasta was cooked nicely, but the sauce tasted like it had heavy cream, which I wouldn’t expect from a place like this. Other than that, everything else was fantastic.
First time here and it was good. Looks like the local weekend hangout for Sunday brunch. drinks were good and food was great. Service was a little slow at the bar. Only one bartender. Service was g…

May 2024: Stopped by for lunch because we heard there was a view. My view was of a tree 🌴 in an outdoor seating area. Ordered the turkey 🦃 burger with Swiss cheese. Overall, my burger was under seasoned and was naked without any sauce. I had to ask for mayo and mustard. My wife ordered the prix fixe and had the potato leek soup, crab cakes and ice cream 🍦. I tried the soup and it was very tasty 😋. Probably the best thing we had. Service was friendly. Just surprised by the lack of view, which meant we probably had unrealistic expectations.
We’ve eaten at Spencer’s for years and always found it one of the best when it comes to food, service, and atmosphere. Today, when dining there for brunch, we were grossly underwhelmed by the food. The menu seems to have undergone a drastic change (focused on a multi-course menu), and the food itself was mediocre (warm, over-cooked…). Our server was attentive and apologetic for the lengthy kitchen delays but apologies only go so far when you end up with so-so food in front of you. Spencer’s would be wise to return to a simpler menu, based on what they can deliver.
Beautiful restaurant with unhappy employees rushed and unpleasant. The food was fresh and extremely overpriced. Three people one drink each and salad per person. Cost $350++ unlikely to return.
What is now the location of Spencer's Restaurant began as the Palm Springs Tennis Club in 1937. Pearl "Auntie Pearl" McManus originally set up two tennis courts and a small outdoor pool below her cliffside mansion. The Club attracted elite tennis players from around the world and quite a few Hollywood celebrities, including Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and that is just the short list. Many years and many owners later, Harold Matzner opened Spencer's in February of 2000 and named it after his 110# Siberian Husky. We ordered breakfast at about 9:30am on a Monday and did not have a wait. The American style breakfast and some sides were absolutely perfect. Sausage patties were high quality and the poached eggs were perfect! Our servers were very professional and knowledgeable. Post Script 12 February 2026: My wife and I came in for breakfast and were seated. Immediately, we were asked if we wanted drinks and we just required water. No problem. However, after watching adjoining tables ordering breakfast and beginning to eat, we realized that we were being completely ignored. Probably no intent, but we just could not get our order in. My wife even waved twice at the staff- no response. After 20 minutes of waiting, we departed for Sherman's Restaurant, where we were treated quickly and with respect. My wife's family was in the hotel/restaurant business for almost 50 years, and was very upset at our experience.
Extremely disappointing. After seeing all the rave reviews online I made a reservation and added a note that it was our first wedding anniversary. When we arrived they congratulated us and brought us to our table. It had a piece of 8.5 x 11 printer paper congratulating us on it, but the table was next to the sidewalk people take to go to the toilets. Our anniversary dinner was constantly interrupted by lost patrons asking where the bathrooms were, and then later returning smelling like, well, the bathrooms. It honestly felt like a cruel joke placing is there. The table service was equally disappointing. When I asked the waitress what wine she recommended, she told us to “just look at the menu.” They also never cleared the bread plate, and as other dishes arrived we had to scramble to make room. They did, however, take our utensils after the appetizers were finished without replacing them - so we had ask for utensils after the entrees were placed before the server walked away. There were some good moments, like another server fixing our wobbly table, but it was too little too late. As far as the food goes, it was mixed. The coconut shrimp was excellent, as were the short ribs, but the beef wellington sandwiches were just glorified sliders, and the duck was way too tough. I’d give five stars for the atmosphere because it was genuinely a beautiful setting, but placing us on a literal bathroom trail put a stink on things. This was honestly one of the most baffling dining experiences I’ve ever had. Maybe something happened and it was an off night for the staff? Regardless, I can’t recommend this place for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion.
Be mindful if you're sitting outside. We arrived and they had to change linens cause of bird poop on the chair and the table. We didn't think anything of it that was left there from the day, but th…

The worst old-fashioned I’ve ever had in my life get a square ice cube would you ? Food mediocre if people had good taste they wouldn’t really come here. You can’t buy good taste and this place is proof. Server was amazing that’s why it’s not a one star
Wonerful location and ambience. Food was terrific. Only issue was the hostess, Alyssa, was rude and pompous. Should no longer be tolerated there.
Awful treatment upon arrival.I had the last reservation at 9:15p on a Saturday night. Can you believe they closed that early?! I arrived 10 minutes after my reservation time, but still within the 15 minute OpenTable grace period. When I checked in, the hostess said “you’re late, and the kitchen closed early tonight.” That I could “get a salad.” Wow. I requested a manager who then came out. Turned out when I walked in the door, she was the one who gave me some strange look and comment like she was surprised to see me. I jokingly said “well that’s a nice welcome!” When I told her about the hostess’ behavior and comment, she said “I don’t know why she said that” and deflected all responsibility. I told her she’s accountable for her team. Then she puts it back on me with some self-pity comment that nothing she could tell me was enough or something. So toxic and manipulative. Just face up and say you and your team messed up and apologize for the experience! She then sat me to a table and said they’d take my order right away, the chef will stay late, etc etc. All very rushed. Like they were doing me such a huge favor. UNBELIEVABLE! The food was ok, nothing special for the price. Worst thing, is a horrendous start makes a BIG difference, and neither management nor staff prioritizes the customer, which should especially be key at this price point. AVOID!
I honestly dont understand everyone raving about the food here. We planned an anniversary dinner here based on the stellar reviews and left disappointed. The steaks were severely under seasoned, three onion soup was one dimensional, and our waitress could seem to care less that it was an anniversary celebration. The patio area was beautiful but nothing here made this noteworthy for celebrating a special occasion. We went to Kestrel the night before for happy hour and it was phenomenal with exceptional service. We should have gone there again instead of Spencer's. Severely disappointing and way overpriced for bland food.
Disappointing because a friend told me this place was great. The food was mediocre. Kung pao calmari was heavy breaded. Australian sea bass was dry. The service was poor. Robert, our server disappeared for so long that I asked another member of the staff to find him. Several minutes later, he came by and said nothing about his long absence. The setting of the restaurant is stunning.
This restaurant used to be my go to. Had reservations for dinner for four in the nicer area of the restaurant. We were seated next a large group of people who were obviously extremely intoxicated/…
We do not recommend this restaurant. The front desk lost my reservation. Frowned at us. Then found it. I was told we would have a patio table. We did not. The person taking our drink order was negative and complained about "how busy" it was last night. He said it was "total chaos." The server taking our food orders told me I could only have a salad with oil and vinegar or a steak with no sauce, due to my onion allergy. He barked the specials at us in a staccato voice with no smile. We politely decided to ask for our check (for our cocktail) and we left the stressed out staff behind. We went over to the Farm where we were welcomed with a smile, a polite hostess and server. The kitchen offered me several options (including sauces) that I could have in spite of my onion allergy. The prices were similar at both restaurants. At the Farm, the atmosphere was beautiful, pleasant, and cheerful. So glad we decided to leave Spencer's Restaurant, quietly, politely and with a smile. The two restaurants could not have been more different in terms of service, food, and ambiance. Some restaurants can handle an allergy and some can't. Won't be recommending Spencer's to anyone.
Second visit to Spencer’s, and it was a complete failure and embarrassment to bring out of town guests. We were ignored most of the night & looked down upon. It took 25+ minutes to be told our wine was unavailable, another 15 minutes for the replacement, which arrived warm and without an ice bucket. Finally being able to order food 40+ mins later. The lobster bisque was watery and flavorless, and the Hot Appetizer Samplers were lukewarm and mushy. When we asked for bread, our server yelled at us. Entrées arrived at the same time as the appetizers, showing zero sense of pacing. After requesting the check, we waited 20+ minutes while the server was visible in back eating, until we finally had to involve a manager. When told about our experience the manager didn’t believe us, removed one appetizer, and suggested we return. We won’t. Zero hospitality. Zero accountability.
This is the second time we’ve dined at Spencer’s — once for dinner two years ago and again last week for lunch while visiting Palm Springs. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing on both occasions, and the food was mediocre at best. While the restaurant itself is absolutely stunning, we don’t quite understand the hype surrounding dining there, especially with so many other outstanding restaurants in town. After two visits, we’ve left feeling unimpressed.
Horrible experience with restaurant staff! My fiancée dined at Spencer's as a part of her bachelorette trip and I called the restaurant to order a bottle of champagne for her and her bridesmaids. I called several hours in advance to make sure the bottle would be ready for her reservation. When completing my purchase, the staff member who I spoke with asked me if I wanted to leave a tip for my champagne purchase and I said no. I wasn't happy with my customer service experience during the call with the restaurant and I didn't feel in inclined to leave a tip as a result. Later on in the day, just as my fiancée and her group were arriving for dinner, I called the restaurant again to confirm that they were aware of my champagne order. I wasn't sure if a new wait staff had clocked in since I made my purchase and I wanted to ensure the order wasn't forgotten in the busyness of the day. Speaking to a different staff member now, I'm told that the champagne bottle that I purchased was "very small and only serves one person." She asked me if I still wanted to purchase that "very small" bottle or if I wanted to buy something else that everyone (7 girls) could drink. I knew that the staff member's feedback about the bottle's portion size was incorrect and I repeatedly asked the staff member to confirm what bottle they had down for my purchase. After some back and forth and lots of confusion, she finally told me that she confused my order with someone else's. To make sure I wasn't getting ripped off or that my fiancée wasn't getting someone else's bottle, I asked her one last time to confirm what I ordered and how much I paid. She correctly confirmed my order and the price for the bottle, but now said that there was a mandatory 25% gratuity being added to my bill. The first staff member who I spoke with at the beginning of the day didn't mention anything about a mandatory 25% gratuity and seemed to accept my desire not to leave a tip. These two phone calls were now in direct contradiction with one another and I asked to speak with a manager. On the phone with the manager, I now asked her to confirm my order and the price I was to be charged (she informed me that my card had not been charged yet). She also told me there was mandatory gratuity, but this time the tip was apparently 20%. I asked her why the first staff member who I spoke with at the beginning of the day didn't tell me about the mandatory gratuity and the manager responded saying that the person must have been new. The manager mentioned several times that my bottle was about to be served and that I could cancel my order if I wanted. After more back and forth, the manager finally asked me if I wanted to leave tip (seemingly abandoning the “mandatory” aspect) and I responded saying, "No, I want the restaurant to honor my first conversation." The manager then agreed and abruptly hung up on me. She ended the call just as I was asking for an email receipt of my purchase. I immediately called the restaurant back and was told that the manager was not available. The entire experience communicating with the restaurant staff was totally unprofessional and inconsistent. These staff members displayed incredibly poor customer service, and based on the attitude of the manager it's apparent that the issue starts at the top. They all need training on restaurant policy, effective communication, and customer experience.
Very disappointed with the food. I have no idea why people hype this restaurant. The food was bland and in need of something so simple as salt. No flavor at all! If you’re paying over $300 for a dinner for two you would at least expect the food to be decent. Service was not up to standards either.
