Last night was my very 1st time visiting this restaurant... was hearing this spot was Under New Management & the Food was Great... so I went N order a cocktail called Over the Rainbow & boy it was great... Sonja was the best overall!!! Very Professional also.... for an appetizer I had the Crab Cakes... very delicious.. HOMEMADE... moist... sauce was a Hit!!.. Let's talk about that Grilled Pork Chop...2 Die For... seasoned 2 perfection...& the HOMEMADE MASH PATOTES...somebody's grandma talk the chef how 2 make those😁 rolls hot & fresh!!... Topped off wit another cocktail called SOMETHING FRUITY ... it was definitely flavorful wit a punch... luv it... Definitely will b back!!!
Great service! So normally a good way of knowing if you are in a nice restaurant just ask for a medium rare steak and then just wait and see. I can tell you my steak was how I wanted it. This salad was a perfect balance between the proteins I need to go with my day plus a good dose of green and fruits.
This charming place has the best ambiance for a quiet chill dinner with friends girls night or date night! With a pool behind you it really gives luxurious feel! Give this place a try!
We had my daughter’s baby shower at Skye Bistro in March 2021. Doug the GM was very professional and responsive to all our requests. The setup and service for our event was outstanding. The guests raved about the food! Doug and his team made our event a great success!!
The food was amazing. I had a burger with smoked Gouda and fries. PHENOMENAL. Kara was especially wonderful.
The restaurant is a smaller little more intimate place but it was just a little bit loud with conversation. I guess that's expected nowadays. The food was excellently prepared came out nice and hot and also the clam chowder I had was very hot the way it should be. A little bit on the higher dollar sign price but that should be expected for the quality of service and food.
Nice place! The food is amazing and the service is good. They had live entertainment when I was there....a guy playing the piano and singing; he was really good ( played some jazzy tunes as well as some soft rock classics, current songs, and some instrumentals). I was able to enjoy a great meal and relax while enjoying good music in an intimate environment.
I've driven by here a million times but went in for the first time this week. I have been missing out! The service was fast, friendly and efficient even during a busy lunch rush. I had the bacon grilled cheese and sweet potato fries. Both were mouthwatering! My colleague had the salmon Caesar salad that she said was excellent (it looked wonderful). I will definitely have more business lunches there now that I've found it and plan to check out the dinner and wine menus some evening very soon.
Nice wine selection, friendly service, elegant, slightly upscale yet dressy-casual environment, food was good and a surprising gem in an unexpected location. We'll be back. There is a small eating area outside, and you can also eat at the bar if you choose but the dining room is very comfortable and where we chose to eat.
Beautiful dining room with a somewhat smaller but creative menu. Nice wine selection and full bar service. We will definitely dine there again and enjoy our time with a warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable staff.
Stopped in had a filet mignon, was fantastic!!! Scott was the server/ bartender and I highly recommend requesting him. Very professional and attentive! Awesome job we will definitely be back!
Decided to get a Groupon here after a relative recommended it as a good place for gluten free food. Our lunch was excellent, and we will certainly be going back to try the dinner menu. We don't have gluten issues but there were several gf selections if you do.
We had a girls night out yesterday. The restaurant and bar is beautiful. We sat by the bar where a small fireplace was warm and inviting. All of us had salads which were delicious. I had a Lemon martini which was also good. I would highly recommend Sky for not only a night out with your friends but the atmosphere is very romantic to spend with a date or your spouse.
The food was absolutely amazing! I had the calamari, crab cakes and Brussels sprouts. The crab cake was delicious. The calamari was deep fried to perfection and the Brussels sprouts were perfect. To top it off with a piece of lemon pound cake with whip cream and strawberries.
Went here on Saturday for an early dinner. The chips, guac, queso and salsa was a great start -- warm chips and fresh dips. I had the short ribs, my wife had a salmon salad and the couple with us split the chicken piccata. All were delicious. Will definitely go back.
Beautiful restaurant and great host. He cracked jokes with us and shared some stories about concerts etc. The steak was delicious too.
Enjoyed every minute here! The food has been delicious every meal made by a chef who takes great pride in what he serves! I enjoyed great conversation with my hostess and with the chef! Highly recommend! I know I will be back!
I wish i could give more stars than 5!!! Everything about our experience was AMAZING. We had a last minute after funeral gathering that no other place could accommodate 30 people and last minute we found this place. The room we were in was private and perfect for our event. The food was delicious and the 2 ladies were amazing. The hospitality was like no other event I have ever booked!!! THEY WILL NOT DISSAPOINT!
We hosted our sons rehearsal dinner here this past weekend. So happy we did. In a beautiful setting, the food was fantastic and the service was outstanding! All of our details were met , including a private room, and the pricing so reasonable. We recommend them highly and will definitely book our future events there! Thanks again to Cathy Jo and her staff.
Went for lunch today/my first time! It was excellent! Had the swordfish sandwich which was outstanding with a side salad with a delicious Maple Dijon dressing. Nice size piece of swordfish perfectly cooked. Will definitely go back for dinner!
My husband and I stopped in for dinner and it was fantastic. Food was excellent. Server was very nice a d friendly. We will be back.
Waiter was very knowledgeable. I got a pork chop that was recommended by the waiter and my wife had the Cobb with chicken breast. With a glass of wine each we spent about $75. Nice atmosphere. Take the opportunity to dress up a little (slacks, button shirt, tie optional) and have a special date night that doesn't break the bank.
The only bad thing about this place is the prices. They are a little high but for the flavor and the amount of food you get I don't mind paying. Great happy hour prices. Never had a bad experience at this place. The atmosphere in the dining room or bar is awesome. An intimate dinner can be had with the accompaniment of live, dinner music. It is a little on the small side so I was hesitant to write this review because this place is a hidden gem. I don't want to start dealing with crowds and wait times but its hard to keep a good secret. Enjoy!!
Very nice venue. I was there for a dinner party with my two year old. He was going absolutely bananas an the staff was very understanding. The venue is very nice. It reminds me of visits to Scotland which I suppose is reflected in the name. I didn't sleep there but we did have a suite for dressing and whatnot and that seemed very clean and comfortable.
Loved our experience at Skye Bistro. Our server was Armando, when you go you should ask for him. Very informative, very polite, very professional. We had the lobster mac and cheese, delicious and creamy and such a huge portion. We also had the prime rib, big, tender, cooked perfectly. For our third entree we chose the panko crusted grouper, it was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. We will definitely become regular customers. Great atmosphere, very cozy. Loved the piano/guitarist/singer while we ate. Not too loud, not too soft, just perfect!
Located in the lobby of an old hotel just makes this place harder to find, but worth it. The food was great selection there was decent where you could find something on the menu you could enjoy. The staff didn't tell us about specials kind of disappointed about that. But hey I didn't ask either. Drinks here are amazing we had mixed drinks and they are perfect especially for the price. And the beer selection wasn't bad but it isn't like 200+ specialty beers from across the region. Atmosphere was relaxed and the live jazz music just sold me on the place. The staff was nice, but they didn't wow anyone. No mentioning of the specials. And what irked me the most we asked for a table at 6, but had to settle for 5 and we were told they were fully booked. My picture below shows the place at 6:30.
Skye Bustro is always a wonderful place to eat. The service was great and the food is usually delicious. We love going for their Lobster Mac and Cheese although this time was disappointing as there was very little or no sizable pieces of lobster in the dish. The Grouper special was very good and a nice portion. If you get there check out the decorations for Christmas as they are wonderful.
Service and food have been excellent My husband and I have gone on several occasions and have been pleased with both. I'm surprised that even at odd times of the day, we have been treated well and served promptly.
Contemporary dining area, excellent menu even though it is somewhat limited. The prices are moderate to high Linen tableclothes, stemware, and cloth napkins all make for lovely dining. The bar is inviting and very cozy in winter with a fire in the fireplace. All in all a pleasant place for a lovely meal.
Plus's - beautiful decor, nice outside patio, service fine. Food, high end, but not outstanding. Had the veal meatloaf which I found had a strange mouth feel. Need to serve gravy when mashed potatoes are on the plate.
We had a super dinner after a long day of traveling. Reasonable prices. Crab cakes were delicious and perfectly accompanied by a tasty slaw. Burger and fries were also well above average. Very attentive to detail. Double checked with us on a dietary restriction. Very friendly chef chatted with us and made us feel very welcome as did rest of staff. Very good cab sauv and a sauv blanc. Ambience in the resto is very much like an inn. Wouldn't expect that in a bwh. Definitely recommend a visit, even if not a hotel guest.
Very nice restaurant in front of quaint hotel. I think the whole facility is a remodeled former very large house in the heart of Mentor. Four of us had a very good dinner last Friday night. Easy to make reservations and our table was ready for us. Very good wine and cocktail menu. Several dinner specials along with their regular menu of dinner entrees and sandwiches. Service was very responsive and professional and the food was great. I especially loved their Short Ribs - very tender with full-bodied sauce. My only issue is that seating is a little tight and the room is very loud as it is not carpeted - hard to hear :(
Food is very delicious. Steve our waiter was excellent. We had 2 appetizers that were great also. Portions were just right. Prices are steeper than most restaurants in Mentor. For a special night out it's definitely a treat.
Skye Bistro is well put together. Elegant is what comes to mind. My date and I were stunned by how smooth everything went. I am sure whatever you order, it will taste good. We loved our dishes. The wine selection is also great.
Stopped eith a friend 5he week before Christmas. Was my first time back here in about 6 months. Only wine available was the Barefoot brand, which is a mediocre grocery store brand. No offense if you like it, but Skye used to have several offerings. According to the bartender, a new manager took over and is revamping the wine list. Hope he does so fast, we were not the only ones displeased. Bar tender was friendly and outgoing, appetizer was ok.
After a 1-hour wait for our food, my meal was delicious, albeit overpriced ($20 for house salad topped w/ grilled chicken). Others in our party were not as pleased with their meals, although I believe they were more dissatisfied w/prices than the actual food. Service was average, somewhat like a rollercoaster w/ lows and highs beginning to end. In general, the service did not match the prices- there was not consistent professionalism across staff, leaving the patronage of our party feeling underappreciated. PS I requested a 12-person reservation an hour ahead by CHAT and was told it would be no problem, but was criticized by 2 different staff upon arrival for "too short of notice" and relegated to the farthest back wall, surrounded by drafts from windows and an exit door.
We had dinner on a Saturday evening. Looking at the menu beforehand I was really looking forward to our meal. We started with the roasted beet salad. The beets did not taste roasted at all. They tasted like they were from a cold can of beets. The rest of the salad was tasty but the beets were a disappointment. I ordered the seared scallops and I received 4 possibly 5 scallops. They were not seasoned at all, not even served with a lemon wedge. The rice was also pretty plain, not much flavor. The mixed vegetables of the day were very tasty. I was disappointed with my $25 dinner. Portion size and flavor were lacking. Our waiter was very pleasant but not attentive at all. Overall after hearing from our dinner companions about the restaurant and looking at the menu beforehand our experience was a disappointment.
Our service was perfect until the end. Our server was attentive and thoughtful and our food was lovely. At the end of our meal, however, our server made a snide comment to us. A family member had sent me a groupon for Christmas since they live too far away to visit or even mail packages without paying quite a bit. Our server brought over the slip to sign and condescendingly stated, and a little too loud for a quiet setting I might add, that our check was discounted, but it didn't include gratuity. Anyone who has been out to eat know gratuity isn't added to checks for parties of two. That comment was snarky and unnecessary at best, but I think judgemental and uncalled for is a little more accurate. I tried not to be bothered by his rude attitude, but it ruined our date. My significant other was quite upset. I still tipped him well, as our service was great up until that point. However, I'm very disappointed. I loved the place, but I don't see myself ever returning after that awful treatment. As a former bartender and server for years, I would just like to suggest keeping a professional demeanor despite your (incorrect) assumptions about the guests being served.
Bad Bar food at best. Seriously, Save your money. $15 for a McD’s quality burger with cold Old bacon. Fish tacos are tiny - like smaller than the ones from the Bell. Service was nice, but I’ve met nice people before who are bad at what they do. Sorry, but a place charging this kind of money should have better food and service.
Food was all overcooked, not worth the 25 to 30 dollars a plate for not great food... pork chops were over cooked, salmon also over cooked. The chicken marsala was actually undercooked and tasted like raw flour. rather go somewhere else for the price
Have always like this place in the past, tonight disappointed with the service and meals. Seared scallops ordered by 2 of us, had 4 very small scallops then they brought 2 additional scallops on a separate plate and only one for the other order. Didn't enjoy the taste of seafood pasta and barely had any seafood. Will not return.
2nd time there. I had the Chicken Picatta again. First time it was great. Tonight, not so much. It was a chicken breast with lemon caper sauce poured over the top. The breast wasn't even pounded out. Something has changed. New Cook? My wife's Salmon was fine.
Came on Valentines Day for first time. Big mistake!!!!! We made reservations for 6pm. Seated promptly. That’s where it started going downhill. We were understanding they are short staffed like lots of other places and knew it would be a little wait for food and service. Drinks came out quickly and then we ordered our entrees and a wedge salad to split. Salad was good and was served in about 15 minutes. We waited almost another hour and still no food. Once we saw tables arrive 30 minutes after we did get food, we finally started to ask questions. Found out the kitchen lost our order. The assistant manager and waitress apologized and appreciated our understanding. I ordered the ribeye and my wife got the fillet. Both cooked a perfect medium and had great flavor. The food we were served was very good. Our bill was taken care of by the restaurant for the mixup which was appreciated. We plan to go back and give Skye bistro another try. Will update review once we have another visit
Kaitlin the bartender is the absolute worst person to be working in hospitailty. Rude and unbecoming. Acting like we were in the way and began to immediately telling us everything is closing... before introducing herself and welcoming us in... we just wanted a night cap and as we are staying at the Hotel.
In the past we really liked this place. Went there today (Tuesday) at 4:30 PM. The place was a ghost town. The sign on the bistro said it opens at 4. No one was there, the bar looked abandoned. Went to the hotel desk. They said it is open. They went to the kitchen to get someone to wait on us. He hadn''t setup the bar yet. We ordered a couple of drinks and 2 appetizers (crabcakes and calamari). My wife asked for a tall glass for her Vodka. He assumed she was trying to get more vodka for free. She just wanted a tall glass. 45 min later we still did not have our appetizers. The bartender said it takes time to cook the seafood. (Really 45 min?) We were planning to have dinner there too but we called our friends and told them not to come. If the hotel is going to operate a restaurant they need to seriously step up their game, staff it, advertise it and open when they say they are going to. We won't be back and I recommend staying away from this place. It's bad.
If the new owners don’t figure things out, I predict that this place will close soon. It was our second time here since new ownership and, what a disaster! One waitress running to make drinks and serve food in the bar and in the restaurant. We ordered the short ribs - unavailable. We ordered the pork chop - unavailable. We ordered burgers. I ordered mine medium rare and received it well done. The couple sitting next to us ordered the chicken piccata and said it was terrible. A small, over-cooked chicken tender with dried up mashed potatoes that were served by a large ice cream scoop - like in a cafeteria. It’s a beautiful restaurant in a historic building with tasteful, modern touches. We’ve been coming here since it opened. It could really be a gem, but needs to be run by a successful restaurateur. Sad.
We got delivery from this restaurant. We will never order from here again. The steak was tough, the chicken piccata was a tiny dried up piece of chicken. The fries were straight out of a frozen bag and oven fried. For $100.00, we expected better!!!! Do not recommend!!!
Appears to be permanently closed now as of 2/17. Put in a food order and went to pick it up, doors were shuttered with a sign and have been since as of 2/19 but now sign is removed. Guess I am out the money for the order. Food quality and service have been steadily declining since new ownership. Unfortunate for the hotel and restaurant. Hotel doesn't even seem to know what is going on with it.
It sincerely saddens me to have to put a negative review out on a business I’m not sure what’s going on with the current management. A few years back when Mike was managing the kitchen things were amazing since his departure it seems to have gone downhill. We literally sat down at 8:57 and we had a server look at us on the patio and walk back in to the restaurant. We waited for about 10 to 15 minutes with no one approaching out table and we walked into the restaurant and were told that the kitchen had closed at 9 PM and they were no longer serving. We would’ve been fine with just having a cocktail yet they literally looked down at us and acted as if they didn’t care to serve us…. horrible customer service.
To put a long story short, I could’ve gotten the same thing at Wendy’s (tastes the same) for $4 but with chicken nuggets and a frosty too. The grilled chicken sandwich was ok, but all I could taste was the burnt crust of the chicken. We also got the peel and eat “jumbo” shrimp appetizer. What came out was 6 regular sized shrimp COVERED in old bay seasoning. My mother got a salad and one of the grapes had the stem attached... very disappointed. Slow service, but that’s probably due to the fact that there was 1 waitress and she really was doing the best she could. When we finally got a refill of iced tea, it was extremely rotten (so bad you could smell it). The Best Western that it is in is excellent. But the restaurant is lacking at best.
