Opinions de Local's Cafe Port Jefferson
their home made banana syrup, pumpkin syrup and black sesame syrup is heaven on earth. very mindful and polite baristas, such cool seasonal drinks. it's a very minimalist, industrial vibe in the place so I don't personally sit very often, but the chefs and menu are amazing. you guys have a wonderful menu and you cook it so wonderfully every time. I recommend the vegan pancakes 🥞 with berry compote. thank you for making Port Jeff so cozy
There are a lot of coffee shops in the area but Locals is a step above the rest! Great food with a healthy and varied menu. Highlights include the veggie burger, chicken sandwich, and salmon pita. They also have high quality drip coffee, as well as delicious and creative specialty lattes such as black sesame or pistachio cardamom. It’s also a great cozy vibe inside with big windows and a view of downport Port Jeff as well as outdoor seating during warmer months. It’s my favorite place in town to sit down, grab a coffee or a snack and get some work done!
I went here for the first time three weeks ago and have been back the last two Saturday mornings because I'm hooked on their pumpkin pie latte (made with real pumpkin puree not one of those syrup pumps) and the food is delicious! The atmosphere is great. I like sitting at the window and watching people walk by as I eat. The service is outstanding too - the two young ladies behind the counter are AMAZING! Hardworking and friendly. It's a great way to start a Saturday.
Lived in PJ for 5 years now and this was my first time stopping in, and man have I missed out on so many good meals. Ordered the egg sandwich and OMG was the best egg sandwich I have ever had!! The special sauce was AMAZING!! Super cute cafe with a great beer selection in the fridge and prosecco too! My new favorite spot!
The food is excellent and I’ve been coming for years but , you need a runner on weekend morning’s! Poor cashier was running around like a mad woman. She did an awesome job under the stressful situation. Just get more help!

My husband and I were in Port Jeff for a day trip. Before arriving, I did searches for where we could have breakfast so we were looking for the cafe based on the positive reviews I had seen online. We were not disappointed. The egg avocado toast I had and my husband’s egg sandwich were both amazing. Sorry, no egg sandwich photo; it had been devoured very quickly. Not only was the food fresh, flavorful and very delicious, it sustained us both for the entire afternoon. The day was brutally hot, and we ended up taking the train back to NYC earlier than planned but we’ll definitely return to Port Jeff when it’s cooler, and we already know where we’ll eat. This cafe offers a variety of options for both breakfast and lunch as well as great coffee and chilled beverages, and great looking deserts. Based on how empty the display was at 11am, those deserts are as tasty as they look. It’s a clean and cozy spot with a laid back atmosphere. A 5 star ⭐️ review from us!
Good food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. The French toast, toast with goat cheese, and vegan pancakes were all good. I'm glad the person at the counter let me know that the pancakes would have a different texture because of the almond flour so I wasn't put off by it; the flavor was really good so that made up for them not being fluffy.
I go to locals super frequently. The best vegan items on the menu are the veggie burger with the home sauce, and the tofu bhurji. I have been coming here for over 5 years and everything is always on point. The owner is a really nice and sweet guy, he seems to always try to be friendly with his customers. 10/10
Local restaurant near the harbor. Mostly standard American sandwiches. Some salads. If you are hungry or looking for a quick bite, it’s a nice place to visit.
A little off the main area, but well worth the walk! The cappuccino is so smooth and delicious. Cannot resist getting one everytime I'm down port! Also if you are looking for something a little stronger, they have a very nice section of craft beer as well. The food is good as well. Definitely check it out.
Cute, modern atmosphere. Food is always fresh and their menu caters to vegans and vegetarians as well as omnivores. If it's a nice day I highly recommend sitting outside to people (and dog!) watch while you eat.
We went there and the hot chocolate was not so great but the food was really good it's a small place with very few staff but still good place to grab a bite. Would have preferred it they had bigger tables for larger groups (6+) but I can understand that that's not what the owners envisioned. Would defenety recommend they veg burger it was tasty and they fired where crisply and fresh as well.
Used to love this place, but the service has been dipping for the past year or so. Forgotten orders, things lost in the kitchen for 45 minutes, and the staff can never decide if they're supposed to bring utensils or not. On the topic of staff, they only ever have one person on at a time. That's fine for slower times, but once more than like 5 people are in the building that one person gets slammed. In all honesty, the food is fine and the coffee is good, but the only reason I still come here is because of the atmosphere. It's the only decent coffee shop around that's not a Starbucks.
I ordered the French Toast meal, which came out to $13 after tax. I had gotten two mere pieces of French toast that were medium sized and a few blueberries. I ate the meal in about 2 minutes and was left very hungry. I will give this a 2 out of 5 only because the French Toast did not taste bad. But to pay 13 dollars, receive piss poor portions (I am sorry) and be left hungry is not good for business. Edit: I appreciate you doing that. I will be giving a second opportunity down the road.
Came here for a 3rd time and service got way worse. A lot of newbies got hired so now the drinks are not only overpriced but also bad. Ordered a matcha latte and got pretty much just almond milk. Got takeout but told the server that we will be staying and didn’t get food brought over, food was served upside down, toppings forgotten, was given no napkins when I deliberately asked for them and only knives instead of utensils. Also very over priced. Got 2 plain pancakes for $12 while toast coffeehouse across the street serves them for $6 and has way better quality and service. Probably won’t be back. Menu never changes too
Unfortunately unable to taste the coffee, 18 minutes after ordering coffee our order wasn't ready and people who came in after us had received their orders. When we inquired with the staff they said that they "lost" the order. They continued to make other drinks for multiple customers after us. At this point we were 10 minutes from missing the ferry, I asked again if they were going to make the coffees and was told they could provide a refund. All the workers at this establishment need a course in how to provide customer service. Mistakes happen...but the way it was handled after that with lack of apology or ownership of their error. Won't be back!
Three times now this place was one giant letdown. 1- Ordered 3 eggs any style, bacon, country white toast, & home potatoes | Toast hard like rocks, not over toasted just plain old. 2- Ordered 3 eggs any style, bacon, country white toast, & home potatoes; added Avo | Charged for the avocado but didn’t get it. 3- Crispy chicken Sandwich | Roll burnt to a crisp, didn’t know that crispy is for the roll, the picture online indicated otherwise. We all know times are tough, but making your customers pay full price for stale bread and unable to replace a roll that wasn’t property attended to during preparation shouldn’t be the norm. On another note, the process for takeout orders could easily be improved: - The kitchen staff does not pack takeout orders, it would sit in the kitchen and the kitchen staff would rather go back to browsing on their phone. - So, when 5 people are ordering “complex” coffee drinks, you have to wait 10+ min for that be done before the person making the drinks behind the counter go to the kitchen and place the takeout order in a bag and place it on the pickup counter. I don’t like to do negative posts, hopefully this helps management to coach a little better on bread management. Tried to make it work with my last order ripping off burnt pieces only to find the bottom burnt the same way.
Entire staff super slacking. 0 sense of urgency. No type of organization with the lines or orders being placed. Sat inside on a Tuesday afternoon not Busy and my food took over 35 minutes. We're talking about lunch eats; A burger, grilled cheese. My burger was a slider size... Dirt place is dirt
