Opinions de Ji Rong Peking Duck Rosemead
Eating their roast duck was a wonderful surprise! The skin was crispy, the meat tender and flavorful, and every bite was pure bliss—not greasy at all. The side dishes and sauces were also authentic and complemented each other perfectly. The home-style dishes were also prepared with care, the flavors were authentic, and they were incredibly delicious with rice. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes you order. The restaurant was clean and tidy, making for a comfortable dining experience. The service was excellent, and the food came out quickly. Overall, a great experience. I'll definitely come again and recommend it to my friends!
A classic roast duck restaurant that’s been in LA for over 20 years. Whenever people talk about Peking duck, this is the place that comes to mind — perfect for both cravings and hosting friends. 🦆 Peking Duck (reserve in advance!) Crispy, glossy skin that’s not greasy, tender and juicy meat, and thicker chewy pancakes that add great texture. Wrapped with sweet bean sauce, scallions, and cucumber — absolutely delicious. We also ordered the sweet & sour crispy pork and pea shoots in broth. The pork was perfectly crispy with a nice sweet-tangy balance, and the pea shoots were light and refreshing — a great match with the duck. Prices have gone up, but it’s still worth visiting once in a while. Some restaurants aren’t just places to eat — they become part of your memories.
Most people think of Ji Rong Peking Duck in San Gabriel for the duck — but we went last week and didn’t even order it, and still had a great meal. Even on a weekday it was lively with family dinners and friend gatherings. Free parking is a plus. The salt-grilled Japanese wagyu was my favorite — lightly charred outside, buttery and tender inside, rich but not greasy. The aged wine braised pork belly was glossy, soft, and super flavorful (very dangerous with rice). We also loved the dry pot cured pork with king oyster mushrooms and the flavorful, perfectly spicy boiled fish. Would definitely come back.
One of the best Peking duck places in SGV. The skin has a unique texture and softness unlike any other. The meat is juicy and tender and flavorful. You can't go wrong with this Peking duck. Their scallops dish with vermicelli noodles and sliced cucumbers was also superb and so tender. It almost melted in my mouth! The pork belly dish was delectable and savory. And everyone loved the shrimp fried rice.
It’s one of the local favorites. A very delicious and authentic Chinese restaurant. Please call a day ahead to reserve the Peking duck or you may not be able to get it. And make sure to order the Peking duck soup too. My other favorites are their cold dishes. The cold sesame sauce noodle is so good.
Craving an authentic taste of Old Beijing in LA? Ji Rong in Rosemead is hands-down my #1! 🏆 Every time I crave that glistening, crispy Peking Duck, this is my go-to spot. I unlocked a few "pro-level" food combos today that are so good, the chef deserves a medal! 🍗 🦆 【The Signature Peking Duck】 Always on point! The skin is incredibly crispy and the meat is tender and juicy. Pro tip: You MUST call at least an hour in advance to reserve your duck, or you’ll be waiting forever! 🥢 【The Soulmates: Northern Style Cold Skin Noodles + Special Shredded Pancake】 Don't just focus on the duck! These Cold Skin Noodles (Liangpi) are the ultimate palate cleanser. Drenched in a thick, creamy sesame sauce with a generous splash of aged black vinegar, every chilled bite is a refreshing explosion of flavor! But here’s the real kicker: You HAVE to order their Special Shredded Pancake! 🫓 The exterior is golden and so flaky it literally shatters at a touch. Try wrapping the sesame-soaked noodles inside the crispy pancake, or stuffing it with the Spicy Stir-fried Pork. That combo of "crispy, tender, sour, and spicy" is absolute perfection! 🔥 【The Rice Killer: Spicy Stir-fried Pork】 This dish is packed with wok-hei (breath of the wok)! The peppers are perfectly charred, and the pork slices are tender and flavorful. I’ve discovered that using the shredded pancake to sandwich the pork is the ultimate way to eat this—my "foodie IQ" is off the charts! 🌶️ 🧧 Important Update! Since I know I’ll be back here all the time, I was thrilled to find out they have a top-up promotion running until Lunar New Year! It’s a huge money-saver if you’re a regular. Time is running out on the deal, so grab this authentic taste of Beijing before the holiday rush! Don’t say I didn’t warn you~ 🏃♀️🏃
This restaurant has been around for at least 20 years. Back then, whenever people talked about getting Peking duck in this area, this was almost always the default choice. Over time, many of the old places we remembered quietly disappeared, but thankfully this one is still here. After we moved out of LA and later moved back, it once again became our first choice for getting together with friends. Without realizing it, we have accumulated so many everyday, happy memories here. **Peking Duck** Their Peking duck needs to be reserved in advance. Even on weekday lunches, the place can be completely full. We once tried to walk in and were told there was no duck left, which was honestly heartbreaking. The skin is rich and glossy without being greasy, and the meat stays tender rather than dry. I remember that years ago you could order half a duck, but now it is only available as a whole duck. The price has gone up compared to the past, but it is pretty much in line with other Peking duck spots in Los Angeles. I would recommend coming with a bigger group so it feels just right. **Five-Color Glass Noodles** This dish was a pleasant surprise. The sauce is really tasty, and the portion is surprisingly large. The glass noodles are very bouncy and refreshing. Among a table full of meat dishes, this is the kind of plate that everyone keeps reaching for. **Ji Rong Black Pork Stir-Fry** Lately I cannot live without spicy food. Even though we ordered mostly non-spicy dishes, I still wanted to try this one. The black pork has a great balance of lean and fat, fragrant but not oily. It works perfectly as a rice dish. Stir-fried pork really is a reliable choice. They also seem to run promotions from time to time. I missed the previous one, but this time the details are shown in the last photo, and it is time-limited. If you already love Peking duck, or have plans for group dinners or a Lunar New Year meal, I personally think the recharge option is quite worth it. It basically works out to at least a 10 percent discount.
My friend and I enjoyed a Christmas Eve day lunch. We were so excited to try the Peking Duck because we know this restaurant is famous for. We are not disappointed. It was the most delicious Peking duck we have had. The menu is presented in a beautiful booklet with photographs and descriptions. It's a good idea to make a reservation and also reserve a peking duck if that's what you want to enjoy. The restaurant had other offerings that were equally delicious. Because we were celebrating Christmas, we reserved a duck and also feasted. We definitely over ordered, but it was well worth it. The serving staff was really great and very attentive. And there is a big, free parking lot on the side of the restaurant.
Hands down the BEST lamb skewers I’ve had the pleasure to try, 10X better than Chubby Skewer! Of course the Peking duck was delicious, my mouth waters just thinking about it. 🤤 we had a large group that occupied the two private dining areas, everyone was stuffed and 💯 happy with all the entrees. Highly recommend you bring a group so you can order a variety of items to try from their new menu! If I had to limit myself, I would order the lamb skewers and the Peking Duck… then order the meat pie and spicy mushrooms to-go 🫶
Still hands down the best place for Peking duck in the SGV. I came here with my friends last night and it was just as amazing, if not better, than when I last came 5 years ago. Pro tip: you have to reserve the duck by calling them 24 hours in advance. We did, and it was absolutely worth it. The duck came with thin pancake wraps, scallions, cucumber, and oyster/hoisin sauce. To make the perfect wrap, you spread the sauce, add cucumber and green onion, then top it with tender duck meat and a piece of crispy skin. It’s the ultimate bite—chef’s kiss. As a starter, we ordered the 6-flavor cold combination, which was a fun and tasty variety. For mains, we had shrimp fried rice, crispy walnut shrimp, baked pumpkin with salted egg yolk, crab meat and fish maw soup, and a mixed cauliflower with pork belly stir-fry. Everything was flavorful and cooked beautifully, with the duck being the star of the show. Service felt like fine dining, which is rare in the SGV. Plates were switched out regularly, our teapot was refilled often, and the servers checked in on us throughout the meal. The ambiance was calm and quiet enough that we could have a conversation without raising our voices. Parking on a weekday night wasn’t an issue, but weekends can get tricky since the lot is shared with a lot of other restaurants. I’ll definitely be back. This place is tried and true, and the duck is absolutely to die for.
It was my first time dining at this restaurant, and the food was absolutely delicious. I was especially impressed by their signature Peking duck — it was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The seafood was also incredibly fresh and tasty. Not to mention, the service was exceptional — the staff were attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. I’m truly grateful for the wonderful experience, and I’ll definitely be back to enjoy both the food and the warm hospitality again!
The best Beijing Peking duck in town! Loved their signature duck but also their other dishes were great also and their fish is extremely sweet and textures were good too! Their lunch menu is a great lunch spot for a small get together and for dinner the must order of the Peking duck! And their prices are very fair for the quality! Went on lunch was amazed by their prices and quality.
Jirong Restaurant is my go-to spot for Peking duck in LA — I’ve been coming here since 2012 and the taste has never changed! Their Peking Duck is a must (call ahead to reserve!), perfectly crispy skin with rich sauce and fresh veggies to wrap. The hand-grabbed pancake is freshly made, flaky, and delicious even on its own. Also love the colorful cold noodles with sesame and mustard sauce — super refreshing. Always busy, but service is fast and friendly. Highly recommend!
Overall, all dishes were very very flavorful...& savory just keep in that mind and can be especially spicy if you bite into a seed in the stir fry dishes. The Peking Duck skin was crispy, meat is tender, toppings were noticeably fresh. The honey walnut shrimp is a standout dish. We got a table with the dividers during weekday which required a minimum spend. Attentive service, staff was proactively checking that all the dishes were arriving and changing clean plates, napkins, refills.
We came here for the duck and it did not disappoint—of all the places we’ve tried in North America, it js the most similar to what we had in Beijing—fresh, crispy and umami. Service also exceeded expectations, with the wait staff coming by multiple times to deliver fresh plates and napkins without being prompted
We didn't realize reservations were necessary and arrived without one. It was still early and the restaurant was pretty empty. The manager was flexible and told me we can have the table but had to leave at noon as they were fully booked. The food came out fast. The Peking Duck was really good. And get the add on soup option, they use the duck carcass (after they've carved it) to make a soup. It is damn good! My friends wanted the steamed fish (we got the scallion ginger), garlic pea sprouts, and I also ordered some chive turnovers and meat pastry. Both were amazing! I did feel a bit rushed but it was our fault for not having a reservation. Overall, a very good experience. Food was solid. Just remember to make a reservation!
Ironically, the "worst" dish here is the Peking duck. The skin was not crispy, the meat lacked flavor so you gotta tart it up with hoisin sauce and the garnishings. But most of the other dishes were splendid! Since it was a large party, we ordered (in order of deliciousness) the walnut shrimp (beautiful presentation), black pepper lobster and angus beef, pork belly, sauteed greens, kungpao chicken among other things. The service was quick and attentive and the place, though not big, offers a semi-private area perfect for huge parties.
The Peking duck was okay—not too greasy, which was a plus. However, the portions were lacking; we didn’t get enough pancakes or cucumber to go with it. The biggest issue here is the pricing. The duck is ridiculously expensive—even more than lobster or hairy crab! The Shangtong pea sprouts were overpriced and the broth had a weird, fishy taste. The steamed fish with chopped chili was another letdown—the fish itself had such a strong fishy odor that even the bold chili flavor couldn’t mask it. It’s clear there’s a serious problem with ingredient quality. The garlic shrimp weren’t much better; the texture was soft and not springy at all. To make things worse, service was nonexistent. No one poured us water even once throughout the meal, and we had to ask multiple times for basic attention. Despite the complete lack of service, they still automatically added a tip based on the after-tax total. Tips should be earned, not expected—especially when the staff didn’t even try to provide a decent dining experience. Overall, a disappointing visit. Not worth the money or the hassle.
Sad to say they have cheaped out on the walnut shrimp, which is our favorite. They recently went through a menu change and the shrimp are smaller now, also clearly less than before. I understand that everything’s more expensive now, but I’d rather pay extra than to be served a sad, shrinkflated plate.
