Best. Food. Ever. I always feel at home when I’m here. From the friendly staff to the delicious homecooked food. I would highly recommend the Salmon Fish tikka, the Yellow Dal, and the Lamb chops!!
When I moved here I tried several popular “authentic” Indian places in the capital region and always left disappointed, most of the time it was like eating bland baby food. Maharaja is the ONLY Indian cuisine restaurant I will eat at in the 518. The spices and depth of flavors in their dishes, the politeness of the staff and the calm atmosphere. Never been disappointed here. Thank you Maharaja for making delicious foods.
This is my go-to place to order Indian takeout/delivery from. My regulars are the chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, samosas, and Raja Thali. Everything I've had has been very good, and the portion sizes are reasonably large.
A new favorite go to. The prawn kabab masala was fantastic!
Friends who live in the area recommended this restaurant. We had a great meal here. The atmosphere is great, the prices were reasonable, and the service was pretty good. There are several vegetarian and vegan options. Next time we're in Albany, I'm looking forward to returning.
The food was delicious and the service was exceptional.
I’ve been here multiple times and every time I get great service and tasty food. Anybody in that area looking for authentic Indian food, I would highly recommend.
My car broke down in the parking lot and the owner and manager went above and beyond to help me. They let me leave my car in the parking lot until the next day so that I could get it towed. The food is absolutely delicious here. Best Indian food I’ve ever had. The service is top notch as well. The decor is beautiful too. I cannot recommend this place enough. These are some of the kindest people you could ever meet and they treat you like family. I wish I could give them 100 stars. A+++++++++++++++++
Absolutely beautiful atmosphere, comfortable seating and a modern, modestly decorated dining room. The service was spectacular! There was appropriate timing between courses so that we could both enjoy the food and have a conversation. I could go on for days about the food. It is absolutely the best food (Indian or otherwise) that I have had in a long time. Everything was fresh, the samosas were crunchy, not greasy. The chicken was moist and flavorful, even the breast, in all preparations we ordered. My favorite part of the meal was the pickles we got with our appetizer. They were sweet, sour and had a little bite of heat. Delicious! We will be back.
My wife and I are great fans of Maharaja. It is our favorite restaurant and we've been going once every month or two. We were married last weekend, and Maharaja provided the catering. As always, the food was amazing. The somosas, curries, and tandori items were all well seasoned, tasty, and well prepared. Our guests couldn't stop complimenting the food. The staff is helpful and kind. We will keep coming back!
Had an excellent meal for lunch. Was expecting a lunch buffet but there was none. I didn't realize this but all was fine. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. It was spicy enough to satisfy my preference however they can make things mild for those who don't want or care for spicy food. I would recommend.
The food has always been great. The service has always been great. The most surprising and pleasant on last visit was that the manager ordered a cake when she came to know our large group was there to celebrate a friend’s birthday!!! She was great with kids and showed a lot of patience. What a Pleasant experience!!!!
THIS PLACE IS TRULY A GEM AND HAS THE BEST SERVICE IN THE 518! CAME HERE WITH MY BEST FRIEND FOR MY BIRTHDAY AND IT WAS SO FUN! shivam was the best server ever!
This is one of the best Indian restaurants i have tried! The food tastes amazing!! You can tell it’s high quality food with fresh ingredients. I always get their Biryani, chicken saag, Kashmiri Rogan josh and of course Mango lassi. I highly recommend this place!!
Maharaja Restaurant, Albany Great spot for Jain-friendly Indian food in Albany! Loved the Gobi Pakoda — crispy and flavorful. The Mixed Veg Sabzi was delicious and fully customizable, and the Paneer Tikka Masala was rich and tasty. Staff is polite and very accommodating. Definitely worth a visit!
Amazing! I’m sitting here 2 days later enjoying leftovers that are still pure perfection. I went with my Husband for our anniversary (thanks for the dessert!!) and we had a great time. The staff was friendly, the service was quick and the food was perfect. An amazing balance of spices and everything was so tender and delicious. I highly recommend this place. The best chicken korma I’ve ever had plus the most perfectly fried fish you could imagine.
Happen to be here with a friend on a snowy February night. This place has ample parking and very well decorated...lives up to the name, Maharaja. The person who took the order was very polite. We ordered Achari chicken and it was great. For main course, we ate Biriyani, Daal, Naan and rice with Raita. All turned out to be tasty and well prepared. Would love to go here again next time. Go for it!
This is a hidden gem!! And incredibly POPULAR with locals and non locals alike! FOOD: I started with a popular appetizer, Mulligatawny lentil soup. It was creamy and delicious. The right temperature to begin my meal. I had curry chicken and it came with white rice. It was DELICIOUS. By far the best curry I’ve paid for. I had the mild spiciness, but if you love spicy food, I recommend getting it spicer. My boyfriend had the tandoori chicken. It was seasoned perfectly and was delicious. I found it as their take on a chicken barbecue. Delicious. Not pictured garlic naan. Yummy. SERVICE: Great service! Servers were very kind with giving recommendations and making sure we were getting refills and doing well. Overall a pretty place and authentic. I hope to come back soon!
I have being here 3 times. It is a special place for my wife and I. The food is consistent 😋. I would say one of the best Indian restaurants in the capital region. They also have great customer service. Tonight we are having the goat korma, with garlic naan and shrimp korma with the kashmiri kofta curry to split and mango lassi. Chefs kiss.
Consistently good food. Great choice for vegetarian dishes. New menu section has been added for mocktails. Parking available in the back.
Great authentic Indian cuisine! The atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly. They have common menu items like Samoas and Tikki Masala but also other items you'll need to Google unless you're familiar with Indian food (which I wasn't). Food can be prepared mild - hot. We got mild and it wasn't hot at all. Serving sizes were good enough to allow for to be brought home. Prices were average for a sit down restaurant. Don't be scared to try new things! Definitely worth stopping by at least once. The staff seems more then happy to explain what menu items are if you don't know.
Very clean and decorative. Staff was tentative but not over friendly (which isn't always a bad thing). A little pricey, but the amount of food you get is worth it. Before your meal they bring you naan with spreading sauces all in their beautiful cultural bowls. The setting gives you a wonderful essence of the culture. We will definitely be going back.
Excellent service and delicious food! The restaurant offers a wonderful ambience and is accentuated with beautiful canvas paintings that will take you through a journey of Indian villages. The copper utensils were another feather in their hat. In the appetizers I'd recommend all that we had, the Dahi ke kebab, Dahi Papri chaat and wada, grilled salmon and lamb shanks. In the main course, i loved the dal, lamb curry, butter chicken and the paneer kofta. The cherry on the cake was the Pan ice cream. It is definitely not to be missed!
Had lunch. Food was excellent and authentic. Good selection on the menu. Place was empty when we arrived at noon so the service was excellent (it got busy while we were there). Loved the chai tea with refills. They offered an interesting selection of ice creams - I had the mango which was very good.
Went to Maharaja to celebrate a birthday and it did not disappoint! Our group ordered a variety of dishes, but the lamb chops and kebab really stood out. Both were incredibly tender and flavorful. We had a large party, but our serve was so attentive, making sure everyone got what they needed. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more!!
I had tried their biriyani once and honestly loved it a LOT but this time I went for a weekday lunch buffet for the first time and was disappointed with food & service. One waiter with many customers scenario: constantly needed to call for water refills and remind him to bring naan. Also, the food wasn't being refilled as much in the pans as it should've. I literally had to remind the same waiter for three different dishes to be filled up. It came to a point where he picked up only two pieces of tikka masala that was left in the pan and gave me those last ones rather than bring me new ones when I told him to bring more chicken because there's hardly any in it. Taste: surprisingly their chicken tikka masala was actually better than the other restaurants I have tried around the area and my other favorite was their kofta curry. Other than those two it's sad to say I didn't like anything else. It was very tasteless and bland which is weird to say for "Indian food". To the owner: Thanks for your reply. I went back for the Saturday buffet again and this time the food, taste, service, and everything was just perfect. I have taken some pictures too. I also think the addition to the pani puris and the fusion fish + noodles were great too. I must say that the water mixture for the pani puris are the best I've ever tried in all of NY & NYC. As always, biriyanis are always my favorite and the chicken biryani that day had the perfect spice to it. Will be going back again!
Service was awesome. The food was delicious. Definitely a standout Indian restaurant that deserves closer to 4 star rating!
Maharaja restaurant is one of our favorite spots in the area…. I love that the place looks very nice and fancy….I ordered Raja thali which comes with a variety of dishes (lentil soup, vegetable pakoras, tandoori chicken, seekh kabab, lamb curry, butter chicken, basmati rice, plain nan, and dessert)….The portions were very generous and all of them were very delicious….. highly recommend if you are looking for an authentic south Indian experience
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Delicious! I had an amazing dining experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. I ordered multiple dishes, and they were cooked to perfection—bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were generous, and the pricing felt fair for the quality.
Best Indian food I've ever tasted. Fresh, hot, full of flavors. The cucumber and tomato salad is a must try starter. I ordered the chicken Tiki Masala because the waiter stated it was incredible...it did not disappoint....this isn't standard tiki masala...it's devine. Service was impeccable and clientele are respectful and classy while dinning. Come as you are. Ball caps, business attire, or jeans welcome.
I had a great experience at the restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I’ll definitely be coming back again. Highly recommend if you're looking for amazing Indian food in Albany!
A must visit! If you love real north India food! We went to the Maharaja India restaurant at Colonie for dinner and the food was amazingly tasty. In last 7 years, we have tried other Indian restaurants in the area but there is no comparison in the taste. The service was quick outstanding in warm and cozy atmosphere. We had a veg platter (includes almost everything) Paneer Tikka Masala and DAL MAKHANI…yes the real North Indian Dal Makhani!! We enjoyed the vegetarian entree with fresh Tandoori Naan bread and basmati rice. We highly recommend this place to everyone. Sardaar Ji you're so humble and expert cook! Warm regards!
I came here based upon the reviews on Yelp. They were accurate. This place is good. The good is very authentic and delicious. Customer service was good and quick service. The level of spice was appropriate for my order, I like it very spicy and I was not disappointed! I will definitely recommend this place, as I do not live in Albany, just visiting.
By far, the best Indian food I've had in such a long time. Such a great environment full of friendly staff. Everything was wonderful... from the moment we walked in, to the time we left, wonderful experience. Heck, even the water tasted great! As a new vegetarian, I ordered the vegetarian kafta and vegetable rice, and it was amazing!
Delicious food, very relaxing atmosphere, beautiful table settings, friendly and welcoming staff, Garlic naan smothered in garlic, lamb melted in your mouth. also had really pretty to-go containers
Today I tried Paneer Tikka Masala and Mix Vegetable Kadai, and both dishes were very tasty and well prepared. The flavors were rich and authentic. I also tried the Mango Mojito mocktail, which was refreshing and delicious. The staff was friendly, and the service was good. Overall, a great experience. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a good Indian restaurant.
We were greeted with a smile and seated quickly. The restaurant is clean as is the bathroom. The service was great and the food was wonderful. Decent size portions as we all left with leftovers. The only thing was the music was not what I would expect but not a big deal. Overall I would recommend. 😊
What a gem! Flavorful food and big portions :) I was very impressed with the flavors I tasted in the curry, briyani, kadai, and saag. The garlic naan was delicious and the drinks were superb. The service was wonderful with helpful staff, and a calm and friendly atmosphere. My family has been coming here for a while and we love it every time. I definitely recommend for everyone.
Oh. The food! Is one of the best indian food I ate in many many years. It very much reminds me of the food that I ate when I visited India. Very tasty and diversified. The current rating of this restaurant is way below what is supposed to be.
Ordered from them on DoorDash a few times. Their packaging is great!! Gave rice as a curtesy even though I only ordered curry and their portion is reasonable!! Impressed
Great service, friendly waitress and nice comfy space. Booths are nice and tall for intimate settings and other side has more communal spaces. Had chicken curry and it was delicious. I didn’t want to go spicy but they have levels and that was great for me, I had mild. Garlic naan was so yummy, could be more fluffy but decent. Samosas were delicious and come with 3 siping sauces, def a must. Great to go containers. Prices were a bit high for proteins but considering it’s not take out I’ll leave it up to you to decide. Great flavors
This restaurant’s average review is below what it should be - it’s a stand-out Indian restaurant that should have closer to a five-star rating! Number one, we were the only white people there - on a weekend no less - which was a good sign walking in; and number two, our meals were delicious! The lamb saag and chicken tandoor were excellent, and they gave us really generous portions of raitha and of fluffy jasmine rice. Def will be back when we have errands to run in the Colonie area!
My husband and I decided to have veggie diet every two weeks according to Luna calendar, so we found this restaurant via google. The waitress is a shy but very nice young lady, her smile is very warm. The food we ordered was FANTASTIC! I think I fall in love with Indian food instantly. By order, the dishes are: Onion Bihaji, Veggie platter, Vindaloo with veggie, Kadai veggie and garlic nan. I never thought veggie diet could be so so delious, and surprisingly help to loose weight!🤭 Anyway, we decided to go there again next weekend to try their non-veggie cuisine, I bet it would be even better! 🤞🏻
I recently had my first visit to this Indian restaurant, and it was an absolute delight. The curry goat was exceptional, bursting with rich flavors that left a lasting impression. The drinks were fabulous, adding a perfect complement to the already fantastic dining experience. Every dish I tried was incredibly flavorful, making this restaurant a definite 5-star gem.
This culinary expedition at Maharaja Indian Restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary. Amidst my extensive dining experiences this year, including numerous visits to Indian eateries, this one stands tall as the zenith. It's a rarity for me to grant a perfect five-star rating, but this establishment unequivocally earned it. Commencing with a libation, the Flying Horse Royal from Bangalore graced my palate with its remarkable flavors. The Vegetable Samosas, a gustatory marvel, boasted an impeccably crispy shell enveloping a treasure trove of explosive flavors. However, the apex of this gastronomic journey was undeniably the Paani Poori. These ethereal, hollow spheres, filled with chickpeas and potatoes, filled with "dirty water," then embellished with an assortment of chutneys, were nothing short of revelatory. Speaking of chutneys, the trio of mint, tamarind, and pepper offerings were unparalleled, so delightful that I found myself savoring them independently after the meal's conclusion. The Tandoori Murg, a house specialty, showcased a spring chicken marinated in Tandoori Masala and yogurt, then masterfully charred in a Tandoor oven over smoldering charcoal. The result? Pure culinary bliss. Accompanied by what I believe to be Dal Makhani, a lentil dish that tantalized the taste buds, it was an ensemble of perfection. The Garlic Naan, light, crispy, and imbued with an aromatic garlic essence, proved to be the finest I've encountered in quite some time. Even though I dined solo, every morsel of this exceptional meal vanished into my eager appetite, leaving me delightfully stuffed. To top it off, a complimentary dessert, Ras Malai, graced my table—homemade farmer's cheese adorned with pistachios, swimming in sweetened milk. My initial reluctance to indulge further was shattered by its irresistible allure. The service, delivered by a cadre of amiable individuals, was nothing short of excellent. Without reservation, I implore you not to overlook this gastronomic gem. A dining experience at Maharaja Indian Restaurant is an absolute must.
Beautiful interior and awesome hosting! Loved every bit of the moment and food. Raja thali is perfect for two people as a main meal. Thali comes with a lentil soup. It was too good that I forgot to take a picture. I believe they have the best Chai Masala tea. I love the balance and consistency of that tea with the light punch of Ginger and other masala's. We came back today to have tea again. We wanted to come for dinner but we are also trying out other restaurants. While trying other Indian restaurant we missed the Masala Chai of Maharaja... It seemed they were surprised that we just ordered Chai and Papad. But we loved having tea over there. We are going to go back for lunch or dinner again. It is worth going. Tea(2)&Papad: $11 Rajathali & tea (2): $30-$35 (not completely remember but aroundish)
Hi, We have always ordered the garlic naan and paneer tikka masala ( multiple times). From past few months, the paneer tikka masala doesn’t taste as it used to be. I believe the Cardamom is put in more quantity. Please bring back the previous recipe as it was one of signature dishes at your restaurant.
Maharaja's recipes are delicious, but on recent visits I have asked for my orders to be very mild, and then repeatedly received them at least medium spicy (change in ownership?).
We were in the Albany area visiting from NYC and decided to try this place out because of the fabulous reviews. We had come on a Sunday for their lunch buffet and as other reviewers said they are extremely limited in their buffet. We ordered a long island ice tea (watered down) & Tamarind Margarita ( mind blowing delicious ). The restaurant does use fresh good quality ingredients but lacking on variety makes it not worth another trip. Staff were polite and the establishment is clean. The decor throughout the place is beautiful and the their color scheme is also very nice and seems to coordinate with everything including plates.
Excellent food. Good service. We’ve eaten here twice in recent months. Food is the real deal! We are vegetarians and there are many great choices. Service was excellent the first time and okay last night. Many ,what appear to be, Indian-heritage people always here which signals “authentic” to me. Worth going and we will go again.
The only reason this place doesn’t have a higher rating is the comically negligent service. The food is absolutely delicious! The malai kofta was richer and more flavorful than typical. So, the service. The vindaloo was decently spicy so I needed water. The water jug already ran out. I asked for water three times and it was *never* refilled. We finished eating so we just asked for the check. The waitstaff asked if he can take the water jug away. Not clearing the plates, not waiting to clear the water jug after we leave; no, specifically to clear only the water jug. I didn’t know how to react so I just said yes, and he whisked the water jug away. I had never been so confused, amused, and offended like this in a restaurant setting. But at least now I have a story out of it.
A Last Minute Lunch We hadn’t planned on going to Maharaja Indian Restaurant for lunch but found ourselves hungry and decided to stop in. Arriving about 25 minutes before closing, the manager informed us as we walked in that the restaurant would be closing soon. We took this as a suggestion to order quickly. And we did. For our lunch, we chose samosas, garlic nan, chicken kofta masala, murg keema (both mild spice), and cokes. The samosas came out quickly along with a trio of condiments. Fried to a golden brown, flaky crisp, the samosas were hot and flavorful. Our meal followed in a timely manner and was served with perfectly cooked herbed rice. The dishes are served in beautiful, well-used, copper saucepans which match the copper vessels set on tables that are filled with water. Both dishes had good flavor but might have benefited from a bit more heat/spice. The restaurant itself is lovely and comfortable and the service was spot on. We did not ask for, nor was it offered, a second soda so we don’t know if refills are free. I would say this was a good, solid meal and a restaurant worth trying.
Today, I ordered goat meat with medium spice, but they sent chicken instead, which was extremely spicy. This is the second time I've ordered goat meat and had a similar issue. Both times, I requested medium spice, yet they delivered overly spicy food. I wonder if they even taste or pay attention to customer requests.
Drab, boring, atmosphere. Staff literally have no personality.we were brought out bill before we finished our meal. Drink was served after some of our party left after meal and Bill paid in addition we were not asked about dessert which we wanted. Food was ok, service was trash. This review is more about the servers and service than the food. Before management responds to my review they should review with staff first fix problems in House then respond with a resolution, I don't want to hear it. It could've been better.
After landing into Albany Airport from Houston, I was in the mood for Indian food and came across this well reviewed restaurant, so I decided to choose eating here for dinner. I ordered a chai, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The chai was ok, as was the naan, albeit a bit rich on the ghee/oil. Pretty generic food. What bothered me was how quickly the chicken tikka masala came out (within 5 minutes of ordering it?!), which suggests to me that this may have been reheated buffet lunch food. There is no way a clay oven can cook tikka that quickly! Also, the sauce was a bit bland (I ordered medium)...needs more salt. All around, neither good or bad...just bland/generic Indian food.
Maharaja is a really nice restaurant. Interior is gorgeous with beautiful paintings and Indian styling to the cutlery. However food slightly disappointed, may be it's just that day. There were not good options for vegetarian in Buffet. We went on Friday for lunch. Here's the menu (Veg only review) 1. Paneer pakoda - It was hard and cold hence lacked taste. 2. Rajma, Mutter Mushroom and kadhi pakoda was ok. 3. Palak paneer was really good. Paneer was really soft. 4. Rice good. That's all. May be it will be better next time. I liked the restaurant though.
Food was good we got the butter chicken and there was barely any chicken at all. For the price paid you should get more chicken if that’s what you are paying for.
Service was absolutely horrible. The food was OK but I asked for mild and it was so spicy I couldn't eat it. I needed water because of the spice and asked 2 people and it took forever to get water.
Service here was lackluster and unenthused. No personality, we never asked for the bill and was brought the bill anyway. They didn't ask if we wanted dessert and I did. My wife never got her tea that came with the meal.We just left. Why did I get out my house to go to a restaurant that's not willing to provide any service??? Just let the public in the kitchen well cook our own food.
I order the tandoori grill mix for take out and this is what I got. As you can see it doesn’t look to good and for 34 dollars I was expecting a lot more. The taste of the food was okay but everything was so dry. If I were you I would just dine in so if there’s something you don’t like you just bring it up. Overall take out experience was bad. Next time I think I’ll just order a lamb vindallo.
I’m editing my review based on a DoorDash delivery just now. We got tandoori chicken and tandoori shrimp. We have ALWAYS gotten rice with these dishes wherever we have had Indian food, and that includes many restaurants. There was some type of soup and a tiny cucumber salad included. We called and were told they just redid their menu. Doesn’t help us! No rice, no alternative to get any, no more business to Maharaja. That is significant enough that a customer should be explicitly told! The food is consistently excellent! We normally use a delivery service, and this is our go to for Indian in the area. Everything we have tried is good. They have a dish that I am not used to finding on Indian menus, Tandoori vegetables. It comes with a wide assortment of vegetables, including stuffed potato slices, as well as paneer done in the Tandoori oven and it is all delicious. I also recently had shrimp and spinach which was wonderful. Too much ghee I think which makes everything taste great. Prices are in line with comparable places.
We ordered few items but those are not fully satisfied. 1. Chicken pakora— it’s the worst I ever had. It’s full of oil, dressing is bad, and chicken quality is not good. 2. Chicken korma— it’s good. Satisfied with the curry. 3. Chicken biriyani— it’s not taste like biriyani, they just mixed with chicken curry and served us. See the chicken pakora photo (see oil to my fingers).
Food can be better. Buffet was not at all satisfying. Very less variety. Definitely not worth the price.I did not even feel like I am eating a buffet.Definitely indicates lack of competition among indian food in this area.haven’t tried the regular order food at this place though.
I always enjoy eating here cause normally it's a five all around.Last night was a horrible experience. They were very busy and i can tell the pressure was on for the wait staff. The service for my table of 2 was like we were invisible as i also put my hand up and spoke up for the server attention. The vegetables samosas this time were hard. The food i asked to be removed was still brought to the table. My garlic naan never made it into i was ready to leave. The waiter noticed i wasn't eating the food. I was just pissed off and ready to leave. I packed the food and left. It will be a very long time into i return. The flavors are always good. If dining in try to visit when it's less people and don't let them seat you in the corner.
Waited 25mins for the waitress to come and take my order. Ordered the mutton, got nothing but bones and fat pieces, took my order back to remake it, basically took the same order and put it in a different serving pot, and told me that’s the best they can do! The food here is starting to go down hill, I don’t know if they changed ownership or cooks but it’s not good
Twice now we've ordered TWO lamb masalas for take out and they put the main dish in ONE container. WHY? Two orders is two orders! No other restaurant does this. Very frustrating having to go back to ask them to split the food. The food is delicious though.
I don't even want to give them one star. Worst experience ever. We waited there for 15 mins and the girl who was taking order never came to take the order from us. She took the order of other people who came after us but she never came to take our order. The women's bathroom was out of service so we had to use the mens. We came to Albany to visit some places and thought to eat indian food but will never ever visit this restaurant again. We left the restaurant after 15 mins because we came to know that nobody is going to come to take our order. The servers didn't even know who order what. Really disappointed by their service. 😡😡😡😡
I was really disappointed with my experience at Maharaja Restaurant . The food was served cold, and it seemed like it had been sitting out for ages. It completely ruined what I was hoping would be a flavorful and enjoyable meal. If you’re looking for fresh, hot Indian cuisine, you might want to steer clear of this place.
I wish I could give a zero star. They serve me a packing frozen Garlic Naan which is totally unhealthy And over priced. I order 2 garlic naan 1 paneer tikka for $29.00. You guys should stop serving a frozen breads so people can enjoy and dygest easily.
This is absolutely ridiculous. First of all the service was HORRIBLE. Their website mentioned that they require a reservation so I called them twice and no one decided to pick up. So then I was able to book a reservation on their website for 8 pm. We got there at 8:05 because there was traffic. When we got there, we had to wait even when I had a booked a reservation. So then 10 minutes later, we were given our table. The menus came and we even quickly decided what we wanted to have because we were very hungry, and had just come from Lake George. On top of that we had a 3 hour drive back to New Jersey because that’s where we are from. So we decided what we wanted to eat when we sat, however NO ONE came to take our order. We had been sitting for 25-30 minutes almost (and I checked the time on my phone when we sat to when they came to take our order). Not to mention, we didn’t even get water when we came. The restaurant was busy when we came, however no matter how busy a restaurant is, to every restaurant I have been we have been given a bottle of water even if they were busy. We were all thirsty. So finally at 8:45 when they took our order we waited and waited and waited. It was 9:17 and they didn’t even bring our order. And I was noticing that some people that had come after us, got a menu, food ordered, and food delivered to them pretty soon, especially to one big family that had come after us. And we were still waiting. It wasn’t until one of us stood up and asked where our food was because we’d been waiting for almost thirty minutes. I mean come on, thirty minutes to have them take our order and on top of that thirty minutes for our dinner to be served, ridiculous. We ordered mixed veggie platter for appetizers that had samosas and pakoras and they didn’t even serve chutney with it. Same with the papad no chutney. Like at other restaurants they do serve that with chutney and we complained to them at that they said they’d bring it out but what’s the point when we had already finished. Our main course came after we called them out for being late. I mean thirty minutes is just ridiculous and by then there weren’t too many people just a few coming a leaving. We ordered lamb seekh kabobs and they were so plain no spices at all. The malai kofta was good but the gravy had too much tomato paste. The most important part about this is that the lady that gave us our table, and the one who was in charge (the manager) knew we were angry about the service, she was even the one who we had complained to her about the food not coming quickly. We wanted to talk to her about it when we payed the bill but she was so smart she sent another person to prepare our bill because she KNEW we were going to complain about the service. And I can confirm because when my father payed the bill she wasn’t there then afterwards he went to the bathroom and when he came back she was right there. Standing there looking like nothings wrong. She didn’t want to get yelled or deal with the matter (which was obvious by how chill she seemed). Even as people were leaving, no one came to clean up the tables. When we had come to the restaurant people both our left and right sides had finished their dinner and left. Yet no one none of the staff had come to clean up. The mess was just left there like seriously, it’s disgusting. All in all, no matter how busy a restaurant is we have never experienced this terrible service at all. We were out all day enjoying the long weekend and we thought we could enjoy some good food. Especially because this restaurant had such good reviews and were wanted to enjoy the food but because of the bad service and the late arrival of the food we were not able to enjoy the food. The owner was there too, they sat there inside but then was waiting in their car. I wanted to say something to them but it was no point because nothing can be undone.
food was good. But everything was so bad. We were two of us. They made us sit in a very very cramped up space. Maharaja charges are more than other Indian restaurant in this area so you expect better services. But they made us sit in really crammed space. Someone from the staff came to take the order after 15 mins. While all this there was no water on the table. The staff needs more training. All seemed lazy to do their jobs
We went as a couple! Ordered mutton biryani, pani puri, and non veg platter! It is a disaster, the taste is terrible and the service is awful! The biryani has mushy rice and the stuffing for pani puri came with half cooked potatoes! Terrible experience! Although there are several Indian restaurants in the area, just wanted to check why they have low ratings, now i get it!!!
The service was fine, but the overall food experience was disappointing. The beer was served warm instead of chilled. The shrimp was overcooked and dry, and the food overall tasted reheated—almost like airplane food. We ordered the tandoori platter, which wasn’t fresh or sizzling, and the meats seemed overcooked and prepared earlier in the day. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
