Robert is amazing ! He was attentive and a great bartender . I and my friends came and he was very sweet and had a great attitude . It was my first time here in this location and the drinks were great! Elyssa and Gabrielle were both sweet as well . What a Forbes star service experience !! Great management .
Went here with a couple friends on a Friday night and it turned out to be a pretty easygoing spot. The place wasn’t overly loud, which I actually appreciated because we could still talk without yelling across the table. Bartender was friendly and checked on us a few times even though it got a bit busy later. I had a local IPA and it was poured right, cold and fresh. My buddy tried one of their cocktails and said it was good, maybe a little strong but not in a bad way. Seating filled up quick but we still found a table. Overall a solid neighborhood bar, nothing fancy but a good place to relax for a while.
If an Old Fashioned had a younger cousin who ditched the cigar lounge, took a red-eye to the tropics, and came back wearing linen with a little attitude Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar is where you’d meet them. You walk in and the place is doing that effortless “vacation brain” thing: light, airy, calm—but not sleepy. It’s the kind of room that makes your shoulders drop an inch without asking permission. And then the live music hits and suddenly it’s not just “nice,” it’s a whole vibe—that rare sweet spot where you can actually talk, actually listen, and still feel like you’re somewhere worth putting your phone down for. Now, the bar program here doesn’t feel like it’s chasing trends. It feels like it’s chasing precision. That became obvious the moment I came across Hells Kitchen an Top chef award winning Chef Lawless and yeah, the demeanor was strict. Not rude. Not performative. Just the posture of someone who doesn’t do “close enough.” The energy was: I will tolerate nothing that comes between me and a drink done right. Which, honestly? Respect. What came out of that seriousness was a cocktail that didn’t have a name at first because some drinks aren’t born with names, they’re born with purpose. It landed somewhere between a mimosa’s bright optimism and bourbon’s grown-up gravity. Citrus forward. A whisper of sweetness. A snap of carbonation that makes the whole thing feel lifted like it’s floating a half inch above the glass. Refreshing. Light. But still with teeth. I kept trying to pin it down Is this a hazy IPA situation? A beer cocktail? Some clever riff? and the answer was better than any category: it was the perfect collision of beer and Old Fashioned logic, like someone took the blueprint of a classic, opened a window, and let the air in. It tasted like “citrus dream meets Old Fashioned concept,” and the insane part is it didn’t feel like a gimmick. It felt inevitable like a cocktail that should’ve existed all along. Then came the moment every good bar needs: the naming ceremony. Ask enough questions, show enough genuine curiosity, and you get let in on the lore. That drink? That little bright, fierce, carbonated flex? That was the Lauren Special confirmed with the calm confidence of someone who knows they just made something you’re going to talk about later. And that’s the thing about Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar: it’s relaxed without being lazy. Polished without being precious. It can sit in the Fashion Valley orbit without feeling like it’s trying to impress Fashion Valley. It’s paradise, but with standards. A place where you can unwind and still be surprised. If you go, don’t overthink it. Get the drink that tastes like sunshine grew up and learned how to fight. And if Chef Lawless is behind the bar, trust the process. She’s not there to make you a cocktail. She’s there to make you the cocktail.
Fresh and delicious food. Attentive and friendly service. Recommend: avocado taco salad, ahi tuna taco There are many more items on the menu that we are looking forward to try.
Had a pretty good time at this bar last weekend. The vibe was chill and not too crowded, which I liked. The bartender was friendly and helped me pick out a couple of cocktails I hadn’t tried before — both were solid. The music was just loud enough without being annoying, and the seating felt comfortable. Prices were reasonable for the area too. Would probably come back next time I’m in town, especially if I just want to relax with a few drinks. Nothing fancy, but overall a nice spot to hang out with friends.
Espresso martini is phenomenal, but the real excellence here is the service. Even when they are slammed they get you in and seated quickly, drinks came out right away and everyone was incredibly kind. My mom's shrimp salad was delicious but my coconut shrimp was just ok. I think I just had crazy high expectations because everyone talks them up. My son got the kids Mac and cheese and he said it tasted bland so if your kids like plain food they will love them or the butter noodles.
Loved our lunch at Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at the Fashion Valley Mall! Such relaxing vibes, it feels like you’re on vacation. We had to get the frozen pina colada and Mai tai to match the vibe. We decided to do just appetizers and were very pleased with our choices of ahi tuna tacos, coconut shrimp, steak flatbread, and chicken tacos. Very friendly and accommodating service. Dog friendly. Recommend!
LOVE this place! Tommy Bahama | Marlin Bar & Store in San Diego is such a fun spot to hang out. The vibe is relaxed and stylish, perfect for grabbing drinks or just enjoying the atmosphere. Happy Hour is always a highlight—great deals and tasty options. The taco salad is one of my favorites here, always fresh and delicious. On top of that, the staff are super friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. Definitely one of my go-to spots in the area!
I have been coming to Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar since it was opened in Fashion Valley and without a doubt today was the best experience I’ve ever had. The music was great, food was on point and drinks were like always superb. What really stood out today from any other day was the great service I received from Elyssa. She was very interactive with her costumers and had clear knowledge of the menu and recommended multiple things. I have truly never experienced such a great customer service and friendliness from a staff member in any location like I did today with Elyssa. I sat on the first seat by the check in so I witnessed her treating everyone with such a welcoming attitude smile, knowledge and respect. Tommy Bahama is very lucky to have her as part of the staff and hope to continue seeing her there
Always a wonderful spot to stop for a food, snack, or drink. They really have something for everyone. There is open self seating at the bar top with full service. The restaurant seating area requires you to order at the front of the bar at the register and then go find a seat. It's not a big deal, but it's nice to know. The staff has always been exceptional, friendly, and attentive. They make your mixed drinks in front of you and deliver them quickly. There is also a great selection of beer and wine to choose from, and their Frozen Mai Tais are the best. The food is excellent, top notch, restaurant quality. The meals are full sized, and the appetizers are generous. There is also a great happy hour menu most days. If you are a sports fan, sit at the bar. They have 4 TVs going at all times displaying sports, and they will find whatever game you ask them to if they have access. The restaurant and bar can be cold in the winter or overcast day, so bring a jacket or something to stay warm in case you are out of reach of the heaters. The staff has always been happy to turn them on when requested, and most cool days they are on already. The bar and dining areas are also wheelchair accessible and there are accessibility ramps towards the back of the bar area.
This is a very chill spot. We came in from Pittsburgh and stopped by the mall on a whim and happened upon this gem. The atmosphere was relaxing and buzzing at the same time. All 3 of our bartenders, Nick, Angelica, and Edward were equally skillful and friendly. I recommend you stop by and pay them a visit. I can’t recommend this surprising gem enough. 5 out of 4 stars.
We ate at Tommy Bahama restaurant in Hawaii and I was excited to see that they had one in San Diego. The coconut shrimp is amazing. The mango chicken salad is delicious. My daughter got the mahi-mahi tacos and loved them. I got the fillet tacos and they were great. Live singing and great service. They only have outside seating. This was fine because they had heat lamps to keep it warm.
Love this place - perfect and convenient spot to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail while the family counterparts are out shopping. :-) They can take hours as far as I’m concerned while I’m sitting here. Food is fresh, and well prepared. Service is quick, fast and pleasant. Shout out to Zach and Ashley for keeping me company while the shoppers shopped; and especially for grabbing the cup of coffee and cream for the Irish!
Update…… I have been here multiple times over the last year. Food is still good as ever. Service is better than ever. Zach and Izzy took care of us. Both were on it and provided awesome service. Thanks for everything. Lots of outdoor seating with heaters and about 20 bar seats. This is the best place to stop in the Fashion Valley Mall. Stop by between 3-6 for Happy hour and get a beer, some cauliflower bites and filet mignon tacos! You will be very happy. Service is very good/friendly and fast.
I was really interested to see what this clothing store plus bar would be like. A friend and I grabbed a seat at the bar and they have happy hour daily from 3pm to 6pm so we got there right on time. I really liked the mojito and the margarita. I also like the corn dip a lot, it's got some kick to it. I'm not a big fan of malls in general but I'd definitely come back here if I was in the area.
My sister took our 93 and 87 year old parents, my daughter, and I there. She had been there before and also the restaurant in Hawaii. We were all very impressed with the food and drinks, especially the coconut cloud! The service from our server, Emilie, was formidable! We visit many restaurants in San Diego and Emilie was by far the best server we’ve ever had!
Though attached to the clothing store, they did a great job of creating an intimate and inviting eatery. We tried a couple of creative martinis, which were great if a bit sweet. The classic burger was prepared well and very juicy, served with excellent fries. The highlight though was the steak flatbread. Caramelized onions were so sweet and grilled steak tips perfectly tender and juicy. A surprisingly great casual dining experience, thank you.
I have been to the Marlin Bar in NYC and Naples and had high hopes for this one while visiting San Diego. Maybe I should have been more informed and then I wouldn’t have been so disappointed. I arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday and the bar was full. In order to get a table, you had to place your order at the entrance. I sat and waited and when I saw a server go by, I asked for some water. They pointed and said I had to get my own from a water station. Huh. I did and got my own napkins and salt and pepper while I was there. Eventually my lunch was brought to me but no drink. I waited and then headed to the bar thinking I was supposed to pick up my own cocktail, too, but passed a server on the way with what looked like my drink. When I asked, saying that my lunch had already been served, it turned out it was mine and she told me that the bartender was busy and got behind. It took longer to make my lunch than my cocktail??? At any rate, this is by no means a full service restaurant. Also, if you are a party of one or two, it is better to sit in the bar area. The temperature there is noticeably cooler than the tables which are under awnings with no fans (there are numerous fans in the bar). I am giving it a low 4 stars because the food and drink were good but the service (or lack thereof) took away from the experience.
Tommy Bahamas bar has been popping up everywhere and we are fortunate to have one here in San Diego. You can have retail therapy and enjoy food and drinks! Located inside Fashion Valley Mall at the corner next door to Vince and across from Loft. There’s a large u-shape bar seating in the front and tables in the back/side. Live music as well and of course the retail store. Happy hour is daily from 3-6pm at the bar. There’s also daily specials from M-Th for drink and food. I came on a Thursday so it was $6 house Rita which is their lime version. Food was $6 any taco but the filet. You pay and order your first order at the bar. Then sit anywhere. From there, you can order more from your table. We came here for drinks. Got the Rita. It was nice ambiance with live music. Aside from their daily specials, the pricing here is a bit steep but understandable because of the tourist area and the name.
Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar toes the line between beachy charm and mall food court vibes. The food? Squarely in the okay zone—not bad, not great, just kind of… there. My mojito, on the other hand, was a mini vacation in a glass—minty, crisp, and strong enough to make me temporarily forget I was waiting half my life to be asked if I was ready for another. Service was classic San Diego: warm smiles, relaxed pace, and a vibe that says “We’ll get to it… eventually.” It’s the kind of spot you hit when you’re not in a rush, moderately hungry, and maybe just want a good drink and a reason to people-watch.
