Opinions de Hong's Kitchen San Francisco
If you like your Chinese food like you like your telenovelas (saucy) then you would like Hong’s Kitchen. Quiet no frills restaurant with one waitress and a small kitchen near the beach with a few booths and a few larger round tables that can easily seat 8 people comfortably. Was surprised they have a lamb section for such a small restaurant and the two lamb dishes were delicisioso. Order white rice by the serving to go with all your sauciness. Cash only, your credit card is unworthy here.
I remember this place well. My boyfriend and I were on one of our first outings to San Francisco and we were ordering like we were at Panda Express and the waiter was looking at the two of us and asking if more people were coming. lol, he explained to us that these are not individual portions, they are for family style eating but the prices were so low we thought it was individual. We settled on a HUGE plate of chicken chow mein and were stuffed for under $20 it was amazing. A great place to find when the weather was terrible and cold very late at night.

Inexpensive and delicious. We got the orange chicken and beef with ginger and scallions. I was expecting orange chicken like you might get at a fast food place. Instead, the chicken had a lovely cinnamon spice blend infused into it and the beef was tinder and full of flavor. It is cash only, but if I'm ever on this side of town and in the mood for Chinese food I know where I'm going
Decent, affordable and I would both a)come back in a heartbeat and b)recommend to my most sophisticated acquaintances. They serve the type of official City Chinese Food you really be missing when you are stranded tragically in a land of uncivilized heathens where you can’t get any decent Chinese. They just don’t do it like this in the middle of nowhere. This ain’t the type of place you visit for ambiance and service. Let’s just put it like that. Decor and white glove attention is never on the menu in this particular genre for me. I got an order beef and broccoli that was solid. Like Big Body Bes said you have to see what their blades are hittin for when you visit a new barber. Beef and Broccoli is to Americanized Chinese food what the tapered or faded dark Caesar is to barbershops. If they mess that one up… can’t be trusted. But Hong and Co didn’t let me down. Last time I was here a lively fellow who appeared unable to bathe daily asked to use the restroom and was adamantly refused. He said his Grandmother was Chinese but anyone with vision in their eyes could see that he was lying comedically. Can’t wait to come back tbh
Authentic home cooking. They can make dishes not on menu if you make special requests ahead of time.
Visiting this place with friends familiar with Southern Chinese cuisine was very educational. A number of exotic entries were fresh and tasteful, with excellent flavorful sauces. Very friendly owners. The whole family loved the place.
Great classic standard spot, front lady is always super nice, nothing fancy, bbq pork chow mein.
Very good Chinese food, better than in Chinatown! Price was very reasonable as well, the place was full of locals. Recommend 100%
Criminals on death row get to make special requests for their last meals. If I ever had the great misfortune of being on death row, my only solace would be knowing I could request Hong's Kitchen for my last meal. Oftentimes, you have to choose 2 of cost, taste, and convenience, and then sacrifice one, for your food. But with Hong's, you don't need to sacrifice anything. Keep doing God's good work, Hong's Kitchen.

Cook manage to prepare food without MSG, no oil or less oil cooking. You can tell the waitress on special requests

I ordered a plate of lunch special Sweet and Sour Pork. The flavor is great, very sweet and sour. The portion is huge for a lunch portion, definitely had a food coma after that. The decor is definitely old school and a little dirty, but this is the kind of place it is, no frills with fairly cheap prices for good quality food.
Authentic home cooking. You can call ahead to special order pretty much any dishes. Affordable price.

Hong's Kitchen is like eating in SF in the 1980's. Not very romantic inside but the food can be excellent. If you take the time to order in advance there are many great dishes. Crab with rice cakes, Fried Chicken stuffed with sticky rice and Winter Mellon Soup (just to name a few). These are special and worth planning around. If you go in last minute there are some Cantonese dishes that are fine but not any better or worse than any other old school Chinese restaurant in SF. Also byob!
Don't expect white linen but expect homey Cantonese menu. Egg whites with scallop is one of my favorite. Lamb with soy bean curd. I drool when i think of all their good dishes. English is limited.
Definitely a comfort food place.... if you know what you want that is not on their menu, go ahead and order it, and the will prepare it for you like your mom would prepare it for you at home. And price value very good.

Old school Chinese restaurant. I think food used to be better here years ago. Prices now are not bad still but you get what you pay for.
The porridge w/ meatballs was the highlight. Meatballs had nice texture & flavor. The beef chow fun was good. Some enjoyed the squab. The preserved egg & pork porridge was completely bland.
Feel like home cooking, Didn't find the taste of MSG?

This is the first time we've been to this place. I live in the Sunset and am surrounded by great Chinese on Irving, but my boyfriend and I were getting ice cream at Polly Ann's so we stopped by here to grab food to go. When we ordered we were told we'd have to wait 30 mins. We were ok with this since the restaurant was full and we figured it was a small family establishment. We waited over an hour for our food. Once we got it, we hoped it would be great. It wasn't. The fried rice used frozen ingredients and was oily. The sweet and sour chicken was a mixed bag- the chicken itself was good, but the veggies (peppers, onions and pineapple) were slightly rubbery. The salt and pepper pork wasn't crispy and was bland - and this is a dish I get pretty often so I have a lot to draw from contextually. Overall everything was mild tasting, and if we had waited 20 - 30mins for it I don't think I would be reviewing the food thusly, but we watched food come out of the kitchen promptly for other patrons and waited nearly 90 minutes for food that was only "ok".

I wouldn't go back. Indifferent service. No care was taken to trim my porkchop. I was constantly removing gristle and bits of bone after most bites. Towards the end of my meal, I found a small piece of wire on my plate. The woman couldn't care less. Zero atmosphere. Cash only. In one of the Chinese food capitals of the world, why go back?

Good Chinese and good value.... however the lady that served me was as unfriendly as I've ever experienced at any restaurant here She literally glowered borderline hatred at me when I was inquiring about their milkshakes on the wall menu......it clearly was written there on the board that they have milkshakes....lady don't get mad at me for asking for a milkshake....take it off the board That was the second experience I had with her.....the first time I had dinner there she literally followed me to the bathroom and checked it after I was done using it.... I'm flabbergasted at the level of distaste she shows towards others outside her own race Blows my mind Despite liking the good I vow never to go back
