Right on the main strip of mission. This was the best food we had in the city. Nice atmosphere, nice vibe, great service, incredible food. Did I say they feed you a lot here? I mean, a whole lot, we had food for 6. And there was only 3 of us very happy with this establishment. The way they run it, the food they have. It was on New Year's Eve. And they squeezed us in to have the last table. Great establishment.
Really good quality food. Went their twice in two days. Was open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas. Their empanadas are delicious and the chicken on cilantro rice as well salads and pasta are yum! Thanks for being one of the few places to be open and serve us some awesome meals.
This place is great!! The cucumber margaritas are so fresh, the veggie empanadas are so decadent, and the veggie skewers are so perfectly charred and have the perfect green sauce to soak in. The skewers are also vegan and gluten free! I highly recommend
I loved this place. Is beautiful, easy access. Food was delicious, staff is amazing, my server was very nice, his vibe is great and added a plus to our dinner. Super cozy atmosphere. Impressive how clean everything is.
Went out to lunch with some friends. We got anticuchos de corazon, lomo saltado, and pollipapa and some plates so we could all eat some of each. All of us were happy with all the dishes and my favorite was the heart skewers. Each of us also ordered a chicha morada and we were all too full for dessert
Absolutely amazing service food and ambience. My husband and I have been here multiple times and fall more in love with the staff, food and beautiful culture that Mariposas adds to SF! We travel from Hayward just to be here! They have become more like family to us.
do yourself a favor and eat here!!! from the beautiful decor to the amazing food, you’re gonna have a lovely time. We got the Quinoa Chaufa and the Chicken Soup and we were blown away! We’re definitely coming back. 10/10 would recommend!!
My love and I had the MOST sensational dinner here on Saturday night. The hospitality is outstanding, and the food- oh my goodness, such stunning vibrant fresh flavors using impeccably fresh ingredients STRAIGHT from Peru. You will not regret coming here, we just wush we had been hungrier, because I could have ordered everything on the menu and cocktail list. I thoroughly enjoyed the Ceviche Carretillero- it was zingy, fresh and the Choclo added a moreish savory creaminess. The Chicken Tallarin Saltado which is a noodle dish, was absolutely umame and delicious. We also got the Chiccaron De Polo (fried chook) but like you haven’t had before- as for ALL the sauces, including spicy- they are delicious and the chicken was moist, crunchy and perfectly cooked. I had the Chicha Sour cocktail- it paired more than perfectly with the food and I really enjoyed trying chicha for the first time- give me more!! Mariposa’s is known for their chicken, and we can see why!! If you love, need or are craving chook- get thee here quickly!! The also have a duster restaurant serving upmarket Peruvian- I’m making a beeline here next time too. Thank you so much for having us, we will definitely be back next time we are in San Fran!
The food had bold and delicious flavors, we cleaned our plates and couldn’t get enough! We ordered the original ceviche, the ceviche carretillero as well as the beef and chicken empanadas. The staff was so kind, quick, and the environment was overall amazing! Cutest restaurant, will be back!
I really liked the experience at this Peruvian restaurant. The Ceviche in particular is flavorful without being overly acidic. The bar options include some non alcoholic but flavorful alternatives. This is not a luxury restaurant, it's a quirky, cozy place to have a good dinner. Service can be stretched with a minimum number of staff working.
First time trying Peruvian food, and this place set the bar HIGH for the next time. The wait staff was very professional, polite, and attentive to us and our order. The decorations are picture moment worthy and the food was the cherry on top. Delicious options and would highly recommend you put this place on your must try list ASAP.
The decor from the entrance to the restroom is absolutely beautiful. Great atmosphere with great Latin sounds to complement. The service was great, fast, courteous, and friendly. The food was excellent! We had the empanadas, the ceviche, the lomo saltado, and everything was exquisite! Delicious food and very well priced for San Francisco. Peruvian food is amazing and this place sure keeps its reputation high. The Mango and Passion fruit margaritas were amazing. I would definitely recommend and return again. We loved everything.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at **Mariposa’s**, a charming Peruvian restaurant in San Francisco, and it was an unforgettable experience! The ambiance is vibrant and inviting, with lush greenery and beautifully lit butterfly accents adorning the walls. The attention to detail in the decor creates a warm, intimate environment that immediately makes you feel at ease. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly attentive, providing impeccable service and ensuring we had everything we needed. The menu is a delightful journey through authentic Peruvian flavors, and each dish was a delicious reflection of Peru’s rich culinary heritage. What truly sets Mariposa’s apart, besides its outstanding cuisine, is the creative atmosphere. The whimsical hanging butterflies and neon lighting added a touch of magic to the space, making it feel like you’ve stepped into a tropical paradise. Whether you’re looking for a special night out or a unique dining experience, Mariposa’s is the place to be. I highly recommend this hidden gem for anyone who loves great food in a spectacular setting!
One of the few places to get Peruvian Pollo a la Brasa in San Francisco, and it was huge and good too. You can get a ¼, ½, or a whole chicken, with a choice of sides. I wish they had rice and beans as a side, that’s my main complaint. The restaurant itself is a really cool funky place, and conveniently located right in the Metreon center. Definitely a must visit.

I gave this place a 5/5 because they are new and within the short period they’ve been open the food was “chefs kiss” delicious. We were a party of 5 and all ordered a few different things. We had 2 different types of ceviche a classic one & a spicy mixed one. Both were so good, loved how they fried the calamari in the spicy one. The beef empanadas were seasoned super well & the side salad was simple but good. They do only have 1 main chef so it did take some time to receive our food but we were okay waiting not in a rush. As a curtsey for the long wait for food & our check we received a free torta de chocolate which mmmmmmmm so so good. Definitely recommend it if you’re trying to find a new spot or something to fill in before going out to drinks afterwards.
Amazing Peruvian food w a very cool interior. Staff is super friendly and the food comes out very fast. We had the full roast chicken with sweet potato fries and rice as well as the ceviche, both were phenomenal.
The atmosphere is fun, whimsical, with turf flooring, jungle walls with lit butterflies accenting the walls. The food was incredible, super flavorful and authentic. The service was perfect, attention when we wanted it and left us alone when we didn't need it. Super friendly staff! And by San Francisco standards, the prices were very fair, on the more affordable side.

Very nicely decorated place. Excellent service. Clean. Unfortunately the lactose and gluten free restrictions are very limited on the menu. The servers tried to be very accommodating but there is only so much they can do. It’s up to the owners. They could add for example items on the menu that have coconut milk instead of regular milk, especially for deserts. Also for a bar that serves breakfast and lunch it would be great to expand their offering to include matcha and lattes. Other than that the food that they make is delicious! So are the drinks!
Very tasty and delicious food, the atmosphere is also beautiful... only the service took 15 minutes for the waiters to serve the table, but it was very busy so I understand... other than that the food is excellent!!

I work in the city and wanted to eat before heading home. I wanted Peruvian and opted for this one that was closer to the freeway and had 4.8 stars. The service was okay, people were professional but not very friendly. Just did what they were hired for. The ambiance: loud which is okay, people having fun. The decore was meant to have you feeling like you were outdoors but it made me feel a bit like it was dirty... I don't know. There was turf inside and how do you clean turf? The food was okay, the Lomo saltado sauce was thick. It made the fries limp. The sauce for the chicharrón de pollo in my opinion was not good. It tasted like mayonnaise. The chicken itself was well made. Overall, the prices were a bit high for the quality.

Food was pretty decent. We ordered the Ceviche caritierillo, lomo saltado, half chicken sub for fried rice and arroz con pollo. There was a lot more rice than chicken than I expected but the rice was a little more wet than I had anticipated. The flavors were overall good, my chicken was pretty juicy. The half chicken was also pretty good with the sauces it came with, although the fried rice was great. I would definitely go again for that. The fries were good but once they were chewy. The ceviche had a nice acidity to it but it was less saucy than anticipated. The seafood in the ceviche though was a nice combination with the corn and nuts.
Main meal was delicious, the appetizer was ok, service was not great. Service comments: - We weren't greeted when we entered, had to wait a few minutes until we were acknowledged. We had a reservation but the restaurant was probably only at 20% capacity when we arrived, so we could sit wherever we chose - When we did finally get seated, we had to wait quite awhile before our order was taken. My partner and I nearly left because it took so long for someone to come over to us. - Had to repeat my order to the server a couple of times and still didn't get the margarita I had asked for. It wasn't on the bill, but it seemed like our waiter was just not "present" or something. - Ordered our meal at 5:15, received our food around 5:55. Not the worst wait, but quite a bit off from other restaurant standards in the same area. - Our server did not check on us at all starting from around 5:25 until after our food came, so we sat for 30 minutes with no check-in from our server. It felt awkward. - Heard some smashing glass behind the bar at one point. Again, not unusual, but the gentlemen who were working yesterday evening seemed unprofessional, harried, disjointed and chaotic. Overall, the service dampened the experience of the food. Also, it looks like it would be a nice place based on the photos, but it was full of casual families and kids running around, so it's more of a "local pub" feel. I heard a group enter 20 or 30 minutes after us, also voicing the same complaint. The ceiling looks like painted plywood, and there was just a general 'grunginess' to the restaurant. In summary, the food was excellent but the atmosphere left much to be desired. I would not go back again.

I went here for lunch with my sister and The food unfortunately was a bit of a let down. I got the recommended lomo saltado. The meat was cooked well but it was pretty much ruined by the most saltiest sauce I've tasted in a bowl. The rice and Chicha Morada was the only thing helping balance the salinity in the dish but still really lacked balance there. Furthermore, we got arroz con leche for dessert to finish it off but the rice was undercooked and the dish had a strange garlicky aftertaste. Definitely not what I'd expect from a place with such high praise. The service was fine and attentive with a quick wait time. But if we're going by taste alone, this place missed the mark this time.
