THIS IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT! The lemongrass chicken over rice is to die for! I have been coming here for about 2 years and never ordered anything else because it's that great! Small place out dated, friendly atmosphere, quick service. Highly recommend!

Good location for delicious Vietnamese food. Arrived at five, it wasn't busy. I will be bringing friends next time. Prices are decent for the quality. Food and feeling reminds me of Kansas City.

Ok, so, I have only been here 1 time but I plan on going again. I was just looking to get some chicken soup on the way home and this was conveniently located at the time. The outside of this restaurant is an eyesore, however, this is one of those examples where, "you can't judge a book by the cover!" Honestly, I almost drove right by it because I thought the appearance from the outside was tattered and it just did not appeal to me but my intuition was screaming for me to try it and boy am I glad that I did. I was greeted instantly upon entering the restaurant, by a very welcoming, friendly, communicative & efficient gentleman. I think he was the host, the waiter, the cashier and the bus boy; perhaps the owner, even? He was so authenticly nice and helpful that I think that, just his positive energy alone, would have been enough to lure me back again. Nothing about him said that he was just there because he had to be or because he needed to be, etc. He was right where he wanted to be and it was really refreshing to be in the presence of someone like that, even if just for a few minutes. So, if customer service is important to you, I would definitely recommend comming here, just to experience that kind of great, welcoming energy, that is genuine and rare. He also helped me navigate the menue and find what I was looking for, so I placed my order. I was shocked when he asked if I wanted white meat or dark meat and whether or not I wanted the skin to be left on. These are all things that when I try to ask waiters and waitresses about, I am usually met with an eye roll, or I get looked at like I'm crazy or they don't know if they can request that or they don't even know what kind of meat is in the dish that I'm ordering, etc. At this point in my life I had litteraly given up trying to get what I want when ordering out, for the sake of sparing being made to feel like I'm crazy, picky or just a pain in the, "you know what," customer; so I could not have been more pleased to have someone who cared to get my order, exactly as I would want it. Amazing! Lastly, I only waited but a minute for him to bring me out my soup, which was delicious and made out of quality, fresh ingredients, done, exactly as I would have done it myself. Yes, this place, deserves 2 thumbs up and 5 Stars. I actually feel grateful to have found a place like this and I will be comming back for more. I will write a review for round 2, as well. I'm curious if it's always this good? We shall see. Oh and for those of you who are debating whether or not to try this restaurant out, I really hope you give it a try and remember to not let the outside scare you away. It is what's on the inside that counts! ;)

My favorite go to place for chicken rice. You can order the chicken as skinless chicken breast to be healthier. Comes with 3 different t sauces. Mix them up for the best results :)

This is the best chicken soup I've had in a long long long time. I had it for the first time one day when I was sick. I've been back several times and it's consistently delicious.

Delicious lemongrass chicken salad (chicken is soft and flavorful), and salad is tangy and fresh! I highly recommend adding chicken gizzard soup for +$2. Also, definitely get the mung bean pandan milk, which tastes homemade (kind of thick & not artificial tasting at all), & is not too sweet! Home comfort food at its best :)

I have been coming here for 6 years now. The food is delicious, I personally love the #7 lemon grass chicken with sticky rice. Their chicken pho is also great. You can really tell they put time and love into their food.

This place is great for perfectly grilled chicken. However, if you are vegetarian, please don’t look away! Their vegetarian noodle dish is amazing. It is served with a thinly-sliced cabbage salad that's doused in the lightest lemony dressing that is not even dressing. It's like kissed by lemons or something. Also the broth is amazing. If you are veggie, pesci, or whatever, I encourage you to take your meat-eating friends, look past their 99% chicken options, and try this vegetarian dish!! :)

My husband and I have seen Nam An many times while walking by. We finally decided to go in and try it out. Glad we did! The service was great, everyone was nice and welcoming. Chicken, chicken, and more chicken. They have quite a variety of menu options. I really enjoyed the food and love that you can request to have the skin on or off. The pho broth is a little bland but is still good once dressed up with all the fixings.

It’s a hole in the wall. No frills. Just get #1 which is Hainan chicken or #3, the grilled lemongrass chicken. Both come with dipping sauce, and a soup. You can’t go wrong.

Update 2018: same consistent taste and value. Hainan chicken and rice is only $1.25 more from two years ago at $10.95. 2016: Good chicken and rice for $9.75. Plenty of parking in the back.

Healthy simple Hainanese chicken :)

This is the chicken version of what I would call classic Phò. I had someone introduce me to the other sorry of Phô so I'll just have to try it all again. I had the 11, but don't care for strait chicken liver, and gizzard us just. My fault for not asking. Otherwise everything was fabulous and as I would expect of a place filled with Asians at lunch time. I'm going to try the rice dishes next!

Specialized in Chicken, this place is awesome. It's a true Vietnamese restaurant, the salad has real herbs, not just mint. The hainan chicken was delish. I usually get the noodle with salad as it just so fresh and yummy. The pandan and mung beans dessert drink is really good too. Price is reasonable for the quality of food you are getting.

This is a clean place. Service is super efficient. We were served within 5 minutes of placing our order. I have eaten many versions of Hainam chicken rice and this is one of the best. Lemongrass chicken was good, but the pho ga was very so so. The chicken had a lot of fat and cartilage, not a lot of meat.

Not the most exciting meal but if you're really craving Hainan chicken it will do.

Yay for chicken rice and lemongrass chicken! Those were the best orders in (imho). Loved the sauces that came with the steamed hainanese chicken though. Just wish that there were more steamed chicken that came with the dish -- the quantity was just so precious! The chicken rice could have also had more chicken flavor. Liked that the dish also came with soup, although it was quite salty. That black sauce was the bomb though!! The ginger sauce and sweet/sour chili sauce were also pretty good. Overall, a pretty satisfying meal that didn't break the bank.

They have parking and on a busy street like Santa Clara that is a plus. Now to the disappointing part. The protion size for the price was a little small. Additionally, the veggies weren't the freshest. The noodles were musssssssssy and pasty. Finally, the broth...the important broth...was BLAND! Lacked depth of flavor. Also, usually when I order Pho to go thr broth at other places has been soooooo HOT. This was barely warm. Most reviews mention the lemon grass chicken...IF I go back I may try it. Otherwise, there are wayyyy to many Pho spots in San Jose to go back for that.

They got the order wrong...TWICE. Watch your Credit card statement, they have a reputation for overcharging. Lukewarm soup, Vietnamese coffee was also tepid. We were the only ones there at dinnertime... not a good indication. Normally I would write something positive but the only saving grace here was the waitress didn’t charge me for getting the order wrong, did I say TWICE?!? Thank goodness they aren’t the only pho’ place in San Jose. You have choices. Don’t choose this one.
