The rotisserie chicken, tuna and steak frites were amazing. The Negroni was delicious too. Our waiter, Mattia, was fantastic. We hope to be back soon. Would highly recommend the restaurant to a couple, a small group or family any time. Our children couldn’t get enough of the chicken and fries. One of the best chickens we have had ever.
Had a great pre-theatre dinner here last night. Their speciality is definitely the slow cooked rotisserie chicken, which was mouth-watering tender and flavoursome, but they do a wide range of other stuff too. I had the snail bolognese on toast to start…no photo as I pretty much inhaled it without thinking…but it was delicious. I had the seafood special which was Sea Bream, and was perfectly cooked with a buttery chopped tomato and herbs sauce underneath. We will definitely be back. This is my new fave pre-Donmar restaurant.
Wow wow wow - as a seasoned events pro who is privileged to eat at some of Londons fabulous restaurants my first time at story cellar blew me away, the food along with the service made for an exceptional evening. Who knew chicken and chips could blow you away - well it will at this restaurant. My client had the private dining experience (18 pax) and they were wowed, every single one loved the food and went out of their way to say so. They enjoyed the signature mains which included, oyster, tuna tartare, steak, chicken, sea bass, followed by organsmic bread butter pudding and other outstanding desserts. Hats off to the whole team and I can’t wait to return. Thank you
Lovely birthday dinner in here. Was fun watching the chefs at work and helped us make our selection for dessert which was tricky as everything looked so good. Wonderful food, service was spot on and nice bustling yet cosy atmosphere. The ginger cocktail was something else though glad we had it after dinner as it obliterated the taste buds with how intense it was!
Excellent!! I was looking for a great meal for our last night in London. I found this amazing little restaurant, the chicken was amazing tender, and juicy. The artichoke salad was really good The fried artichokes on top was the best part. Steak frites were perfectly cooked. The summer quiche was very good. Had a couple glasses of house wine were well-matched with our food. The staff was really good and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend the restaurant, my teenage kids loved the food as well.
A great restaurant "hidden" away amongst the shops in and around seven dials. Lots of counter seating available, with some tables. We sat at the window and watched the world go by as we had out meal. The rotisserie chicken was fantastic, packed full of flavour, a crispy skin and the chicken not dry on the inside, perfect? I think so! The bread and butter pudding with custard was just delicious. Loved every bite, would go back in a heart beat!
Ravioli - excellent Pork - outstanding. Maybe the best pork chop I’ve ever had. The deliciously flavoured and textured sauce was a big part of the experience Bread - disappointing Bread pudding - average. I was hoping for more interesting texture
Possibly the best steak I have had in London. And all the rest of the dishes are amazing too. We had one issue the first time we came, undercooked mussels, but they have since redeemed themselves.
This is another restaurant opened by the team of Restaurant Story. Right in the middle of Soho seven dials area. Gives a feel of a cosy French style bistro. Very cool place and has a great service. Great ambiance and service / we sat at the bar stools And watched the chefs in action which was great experience. Started with an old fashioned cocktail which was decent and followed by some oysters / asparagus and tuna. Oysters were fresh and asparagus was soft and beautifully made. Tuna was excellent too. Everything went well with Gussbourne blanc de blanc. For the mains we shared the rotisserie chicken and steak with fries / salad. It was all all amazing / well cooked delicious and tasty. The steak sauce was mouth watering. Overall a 5/5 experience Budget - meal for 2 is easily 200 ( drinks are slightly on the expensive side / almost the prices of Michelin restaurants )
Everything about Story Cellar is STELLAR! Service, Ambiance and Quality Menu. Every item on the menu is a winner. I loved the design and the open kitchen. This is definitely a culinary driven intimate restaurant with an excellent chef at the helm of the kitchen.
One of the VERY best dining experiences EVER. Really. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching our food be prepared. Robert was the best. The roast chicken and fillet were excellent. The peach salad was incredible. All the flavors were on point! M Duryea, Florida, USA.
To say this place is great would be an understatement. We had amazing service, great banter from chefs & front of house. Food was exceptional and bordering on hypnotic. The snail bolognese is a must, we had 5 star pork and rotisserie chicken which slapped! Finished up with an apricot soft serve…. I was in heaven. 5 mescal margaritas… damn good too. Loved it. Go here… GO!!
We were sat at the bar looking into the kitchen, which was really nice. Wonderful atmosphere, the Maître D' was very attentive as were all the staff, and of course the food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend for good quality food.
This restaurant has such a friendly atmosphere, on top of amazing food. We were mind-blown by the bolognese snails: this is a must order for sure. The rest wasn’t just as good but still very enjoyable. The second highlight would be the desserts which were fantastic (we had pudding and crème brûlée)
Good addition to the area. A casual, unpretentious, restaurant service above average food at reasonable prices. The roast peach salad was delicious, Snail Bolognaise rich and dense, the roast chicken (their speciality) was dry - good flavour but the breast meat was dry (several other people have mentioned this - so kit needs looking at ). The cassoulet was a light version, not too intense, and was welcome. The food star of the show was the strawberry trifle which was light, packed full of flavour and simple wonderful. The negroni was their own floral version which I really liked - the mixologist came and spoke to us about it when I asked - which was really nice. The star of the whole evening was Cora our server who was brilliant; intelligent, friendly, professional. A lovely restaurant which a relaxed friendly atmosphere - we'll be back soon.
We had an incredible experience at Story Cellar - a very warm welcome and excellent service. The food was exceptional - and without question the best mash we have ever eaten! Can't wait to go back and will recommend to everyone we know.
Came here for my anniversary and it was the perfect setting. Great service, excellent food and wine selection. It is expensive, but for an occasion it is worth it - the scallop was a stand out, as was the snail bolognaise on toast (sounds of putting but actually gorgeous!) and the rotisserie chicken is their signature so was obviously bang on. Would book again for a fancy meal out with friends or boyfriend!
We loved this meal. Highlights were the English carbonara and snail bolognese. The whole thing was great and a huge shout out to Pedro - thank you for making it a wonderful evening!
My experience was amazing from the entry to the end! The restaurant looks aesthetic and vintage from the outside. The staff is friendly. Huge compliment to Jenny! The place is clean. What a nice atmosphere! The food looks good and tastes incredibly good! I wish I could give you more stars. ⭐️ I will definitely come back when I‘m in London again. Thank you again! Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Lovely restaurant with a beautiful ambience. Came here for a roast on a Sunday and it was delicious, had cured meats started and rump beef roast which comes out with separate sharing veg platters. Really good food with a nice choice of cocktails. Perfect for setting the scene before a nice evening performance at the theatre.
As we’d booked for a Sunday, we did not realise there would only be the roast menu — but we left truly satisfied that there was! The service and atmosphere of this restaurant were both of high quality and as was the food!
Amazing experience at this restaurant. The experience was made quite unique by Luca's and Yulia's menu recommendations. The kitchen moves in such sync its like watching a concerto. Bravo to all.
Excellent dinner in a cute dining room and picturesque alleyway. Grabbed a reservation online the day of and sat at the bar. Highly recommend the bread starter, white onion soup and steak and frites.
Great Restaurant with superb dishes. We sat at the bar which was equally as enjoyable as sitting on the tables. Dishes are second to none when it comes to season, freshness and taste. Highly recommending the steak and fries and good cocktails too!
Tender chicken, great service and friendly staff. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, overall a very good experience. The roast was unbelievable.
The soufflé and snail bolognaise were incredible. Rotisserie chicken was delicious. Perfectly balanced dishes that we enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. Slight issue with one of the courses and they dealt with it diligently and courteously so felt very taken care off. It’s lovely and so are the staff. Can’t recommend enough. It’s an experience worth having.
What a gem of a place. It was available in a time of need and did not disappoint. I got a same day booking here around the busy Christmas period which was already a bonus. Being off the beaten (central) track slightly does this place a lot of favours. We were treated to a ‘mystery’ starter, which sorry to spoil it for you was the snail ragu, a divine luxurious start to the meal, for mains we shared the famous chicken, pork chop and muscles with fries and brussel sprouts. Our waiter Pedro was perfect, a present but not overbearing aid to choices and needs. I could not get enough of the pork chop, a boozy fruity sauce, with an additional smooth kick of confit garlic complemented what has to be the best tasting aged pork I have had in London to date. We were downstairs which was a tad quiet, would have been a phenomenal date spot. Otherwise I am exceptionally eager to come back and try more of what the sensational menu has to offer.
One of my go to restaurants in central London. Food & service is always consistently on point. You will be hard pushed to find a better rotisserie chicken in London. The star of the show on this event visit was their delightful ratatouille.
Food arrived well before wine but they comped 2 glasses by way of apology and service was v good overall. Food is well executed and the menu has good variety without being overly big. Wine list is way too skewed to 100 quid plus bottles: maybe 90pct plus of list is over £100 - percentage mark ups seem ‘normal’ for London so this is more a result of the make-up of the wine list rather than egregious pricing, but this should be changed as it makes the place seem bad value versus what are perhaps comparable counter restaurants like Barrafina Soho. The Atmosphere/decor is attractive although music choice a bit odd
My boyfriend and I decided to go as part of our trip. I’m not sure why some reviews say the rotisserie chicken is dry. Ours was moist and well-seasoned. The highlight, though, was the pork chop—it was cooked perfectly and the dates were a fun touch. We also didn’t find the portions small. With two starters, two mains, and a side, we struggled to finish dessert. Energy and service in the restaurant is great as well.
Superb. From the moment we arrived, the service was friendly, attentive and first class. The food was exceptional and generous - we shared the heritage tomatoes and Burrata to start and followed with a Dry-Aged pork chop and Rotisserie Chicken. Could not fault! My only regret is that we didn't have room to try dessert. We will definitely be back!
Had a great beef fillet with a nice glas of red wine, we sat at the bar and we had a nice chat with one of the cooks named Mark. Great guy as he made the experience even better.
Smart food. Well cooked and tasty, with innovative combinations of ingredients. Cool personnel, with a good sense of humor. Nice, modern atmosphere. Whatever you do, don’t miss the butter pudding!!!
came in and ordered the half rotisserie chicken. service was great and dish came out super speedy! chicken was wonderful - so tender, so juicy, so flavourful. salad also great. chips left a little to be desired, but still good. only thing is the price - £36 including service (already printed on the receipt)…. for half a chicken…. which is really just one breast and one leg. it’s a little much. wouldn’t come back, but glad i came for the experience.
A nice addition to the already attractive Seven Dials/Neals Yard scene. Loved the snail bolognese on toast. The rotisserie chicken felt a tad dry, and could do with some improvement. The almond and dill soft serve was delicious. Decent choice if drinks, though a few more choices for wines by the glass wouldn’t hurt. Nice, friendly service as well.
We came for dinner on Friday night and were seated in the downstairs cellar which had a good vibe. Between the three of us, we shared the burrata (good), bread, hot scallops (amazing), snail bolognese on toast (interesting combo but worked well), crab tagliatelle (the sauce was good but it was underseasoned), half chicken with salad and fries (good), lemon tart and almond soft serve (personally didn't find the desserts amazing so can skip this). The portion sizes were definitely smaller for the price paid especially as the dishes were good but not outstanding. Matteo, our waiter was super helpful and friendly!
Lovely restaurant - with excellent flavoursome food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The snail bolognese was amazing. We shared the T-Bone, pork, 1/2 a chicken and Dover sole between 6. We sat downstairs; I wished we’d sat upstairs as you see the grill and the chefs cooking.
Beautiful setting, in the middle In Covent Garden. Service is very friendly, not intrusive and knowledgeable. Second visit, lots of seasonal dishes and British produce showcase. My started of wild garlic soup was light and a good start to the meal. The main attraction is the rotisserie chicken which, while flavoursome, was, in my view, close to being undercooked to the bone. The salad was fantastic but the chips actually quite average. They had run out of soft serve in the puddings so we didn’t try any.
Our visit to Story Cellar started with an unexpected surprise—we were seated in the basement dining area, something that wasn’t mentioned beforehand. At first, this was frustrating, but we hoped the food and service would make up for it. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations. We started with oysters and a Chenin Blanc, which was the highlight of the meal. The wine was a great choice, and the oysters were fresh. Pedram’s hospitality was a positive note, making us feel welcomed. However, things went downhill with the T-bone steak. While it was cooked to the right doneness—between medium rare and rare medium—it was served on a cold metal plate, which caused it to cool down far too quickly. This completely took away from the enjoyment of the dish. The wine selection by Sean was good, with a Barolo and Brunello pairing well with the steak, but even great wine couldn’t salvage the overall disappointment of the evening. In the end, while some aspects of the meal were enjoyable, the lack of attention to details like the cold plate and the basement seating made the experience underwhelming.
would have been 5 star if 25pct cheaper (or sizes similar bigger) and had pint glasses - and do not spend 6 quid on bread basket (stale) - but otherwise fish of day was to die for, fillet was v nice and chocie pud the mrs loved. have a look - not sure will ever get to Michelin (I was almost turfed out with my helpful suggestions after a couple of small glasses of the lager - The Truth recommended!) but worth a visit if you wanted a break from the maddening crowd around the Nags Head in Covent.
Very tasty food. The scallop was the standout dish. The seabass and lemon tart also notable mentions. Good service.
Story Cellar was recommended to me by a work pal. The service is attentive but not intrusive. The team explained everything clearly. Entry level wine was a little pricey for our budget. There is an extensive wine list. I’m no wine buff so it’s a lot to go through. Thankfully our lovely waiter made some suggestions. We shared a roast chicken which comes with salad and french fries. It was perfect. So succulent. We also tried the snail bolognese on toast equally divine. I just loved this place. Do pay a visit.
I came here for the rotisserie chicken. I was really disappointed. Mediocre at best. However, everything else was great. The snail bolognese was out of this world. The service was excellent.
Story Cellar, a Parisian-inspired rotisserie-style neighborhood restaurant by chef Tom Story, holds a one Michelin star. The beef fillet was the standout dish, but the rest of the items fell short, including their renowned chicken rotisserie. The artichoke soft serve was both creative and delicious.
Ordered see food risotto. Never saw a risotto before looking like soup. T-bone steak was ok, but not worth 95£. Wine was good.
An excellent meal, until the bill arrived. Without permission, they added a charitable donation to the bill. If the restaurant wishes to donate to charity, good for them; if I give, that is up to me. For the business to make a decision for customers and to surreptitiously extract money from them in this way, in order to amplify the restaurant’s own moral grandstanding, is wrong.
I was initially going to give the restaurant 3 stars but what happened at the end, reduced it to 2. So basically the roast chicken was very very average. The fries were so dry. The salad portion was fairly small. The sole was tasty and I enjoyed the snail Bolognese on toast. The dishes were cleared before everyone was finished. We felt a bit rushed to leave. At the end the manager offered “champagne” to make up for the service. I asked for sparkling water instead but nothing came. Disappointed and I won’t go again.
What an anticlimax. It has nothing to do with Restaurant Story. It's a very very third rate brasserie. The restaurant is cold. The food is average at best. The service is not great. The wine markups incomprehensible. You'd have to be nuts to go here instead of The Wolseley or one of the other great brasseries in London. Mon Plaisir is close by. Go there instead.
Very nice staff and ambiance. The problem is the food. It’s not very creative. The choice for the sauce for the pork and the chicken was demi-glace, which does not match the food. The music is loud. No acoustic dampening of any kind.
I genuinely hate writing negative reviews. I want to love places and give them the benefit of the doubt. In this case, it was just such a disappointment so here we are. We were the first people through the door and even when we left, there were only three other tables with diners. Given the low customer count, I cannot understand the poor service. We ordered cocktails which took a very long time to arrive. We ordered wine at the same time and by the main course had still not been served the bottle despite us asking two different servers for a total of four times. Food was equally disappointing, which surprised me given that they're mentioned the Michelin guide and are a sister restaurant to 2 starred Restaurant Story. The rotisserie chicken is very good and worth ordering. The only other dish we liked was a poached fig salad. Their barrel aged Negroni is made with Hendricks Adora Flora, which you either like or don't like. Oh, and good chips/French fries. The rest of the meal was undermined by strange choices. Black truffle gougeres are served cold. House cured meats were no better than store-bought. Snail bolognaise was served on burnt bread, so it tastes like burnt bread; we were told this was intentional. French onion soup had a nice rich broth with absolutely miserable bread and un melted cheese on top. Salad accompanying the chicken was a pile of leaves with little dressing, although the crispy shallots were a good time. Both the gin cocktails were disappointing and felt watered down. We were given a free glass of wine when we were halfway through the chicken and it was nice, but... not serving the wine promptly is just bizarre to me. Given the glut of options in Covent Garden, I wish I'd chosen somewhere else for our pre-theatre dinner.
