I ordered the pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns — everything was cooked just right and hit the spot. Great food and even better service. Shoutout to Alejandro for making the experience that much better. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

I had the most wonderful time at Black Bear Diner in Sunnyvale! The cozy atmosphere, combined with delicious food, made my visit memorable. Went there for valentines day, the waitress we had was very sweet, the food was fresh and delicious, and their desserts are wonderful. Me and my partner cant wait to go back

My parents love the cornbread. The crew waited for my parents to pick up the dozen cornbread order at the closing time (2000). Whenever we ordered cornbread, the customer service is on point. The crew is kind and courteous. Will return again.

Went to the Sunnyvale location and was happy to find out they have outdoor dining. Along with large tents for shade. It was over 90° Besides that, the waitors/waitresses were super friendly and welcoming and always checked on us to ask if we were doing okay. I have life-threatening food allergies and the waitor was very aware and understanding. The food was bomb as always. And no allergy reaction.

Absolutely fantastic meal and service. All with a great down home feel! If you leave hungry it's your fault!

Just had an incredible meal at Black Bear Diner in Sunnyvale! The Parmesan sourdough burger with fries was delicious. The atmosphere is cozy, and Nestor and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. So glad I discovered this spot – I can see myself becoming a regular here.

I've only been in California for 3 days. I was researching different diners and came across this one and decided to go for breakfast. Words can't being to explain how great the experience was from the staff to the food restaurant itself. It was all great. Definitely recommend if your in the area. Check it out you won't be disappointed!!

Black Bear Diner is always a fun experience, but the service that me, my sister and my son experienced recently was exceptional. Pricea are reasonable for a diner, especially these days. The side of white cheddar mac and cheese and kids' hamburger and fries was more than sufficient for me and my 2-year-old son. The restaurant also has a jukebox, cute black bear merch, and fun Silicon Valley-themed bear sculptures in the outdoor seating area. We will definitely come again!

A wonderful place for traditional brunch. There were people outside waiting when we got there. They told us the wait would be 15 minutes (shorter than we expected) and it was indeed. The food was of generous portion and very nicely done. The service was good even though it seemed that they're short on staff. We're still in the middle of COVID and this is something we've learned (or should try and learn) to understand and be patient about. The good food made up for the wait.

Turkey club sandwich had great bacon, but ham and turkey were a bit bland...not bad, just not memorable. Nicely grilled sourdough held it all together. French fries were the best I've had in a long time...just a little thicker than average so the outside was crisp, inside was creamy/fluffy. Very generous serving of fries, too. Ketchup (Black Bear's own label), sweetened with sugar rather than corn syrup, was yummy on the fries. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. Update August 2022 after several more visits: upgraded to 5 stars on the basis of several other favorites. Today had the Blackberry Burn BBQ ribs: St. Louis style pork ribs in a summer-special sauce that's sweet/spicy/smoky in a perfect balance, on the best ribs I've ever had, with cole slaw made to order, very crisp in a rich dressing. Other favorites include pot roast (pictured) meat loaf, and from their "breakfast-for-dinner" menu, chopped beef steak and eggs with country potatoes.

Really had no complaints about this diner. I always passed by this location when driving down El Camino in Sunnyvale, but never tried it til today. Great service and food. We ordered the Chili which came with a cheddar cheese topping along with a corn muffin. Someone in my party said it tasted good and that he would order it again. Another person ordered the Waffle Combo with two eggs over easy and two slices of bacon. He too enjoyed it and the portion was a nice size. I shared a Volcano meal which included three huge sweet cream pancakes, two eggs over easy, two slices of bacon and two sausage links. These pancakes were the best I had in any diner. It didn't need any syrup really unless you need to wet it. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the coffee, but I didn't go there for that. We will definitely return.

When you are on the road and you want a real homestyle breakfast that will get your day started right, this is the place. The omelet was great and the large biscuit was nice and heavy. The service was great, very friendly atmosphere.

I absolutely love the Black Bear Diner. From Salinas to Oregan me and the family have eaten at Black Bear Diners and they all offer good food, large portions, lighter meals, just great comfort food. This location did not disappoint!

Visited this place on a weekend. The wait time was 20 min but they called us in 15 min..We ordered four dishes ,it took almost 20 min for them to bring all of it together… Every dish was hot and freshly served..It tasted so good …Also they didn’t had the California chicken burger in menu instead it was available in beef and pork,but when we requested to please serve in chicken the chef did prepare that for us… We were so delighted with their service…. I would suggest if you are going on weekend, just consider also about wait times. Call them before you leave

Food is good, very homie, portions are just the right size. Staff is friendly and fast. My corned beef hash was served in about 5 minutes after I ordered it. The jewel of the place is the decorations, wood carving of bears, themed ketchups and themed hot sauce bottles. Coffee wasn’t the best, but it didn’t really matter.

The waiter I had was friendly. He got everything correct about my tables order. He heard my order correctly, but I realized I said the wrong type of tea when I took a sip. I accidentally ordered a sweet tea instead of a non sweetened tea. The waiter smiled at me and said he will go get the one I wanted right now! I didn’t have to pay extra for it either! The atmosphere of the restaurant felt very homey and welcoming. I loved how there were all sorts of creative bear decorations everywhere. The interior decor was a multimedia design. I saw bear statues carved from wood, framed photos, stuffed toys, paintings, fabrics, maps, the list goes on. Both the dining area and bathrooms were clean. They also had a TouchTunes jukebox to request music on, which was fun!

If you crave good old Americana diner breakfast and lunch, just good old fashioned hearty meals, Black Bear Diner is probably as authentic as it gets in the Bay area. It's not trying to be fancy or unique, their staff are super friendly, and the restaurant is perfect for families with kids. The kids meals are actually more hearty, nutritious and cheaper than McDonald's!

Myself and my better half ended up wanting a hearty meal and ended up at the Black Bear diner. We got a hearty meal. Even my companion ordered the light pork roast meal and still had plenty of food which she said was delicious. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and I have to say it was delicious. Corned beef was cut thick. There was plenty of Swiss cheese on it. There was plenty of Sauerkraut. I also ordered the onion rings which I prefer battered but these were excellent. Very crisp. The onions were cooked and I ate a lot of them almost all of them but I got full. The server was awesome! He took great care of us. Had a good sense of humor and was an all-around great guy.

Our recent visit to the Black Bear Diner in Sunnyvale was truly five-star, thanks largely to our amazing waitress, Cristina, whose service was exceptional and incredibly personal. She recommended an improvised and absolutely delicious fried fish substitution for our Parmesan Sourdough Sandwich (we also enjoyed the classic Shasta Burger), turning it into a "prototyped" masterpiece that paired perfectly with our creamy milkshake and crispy fries. The atmosphere was welcoming, the food was comforting and creative, and this positive experience - fueled by Cristina’s great suggestion - exceeded all expectations. We had a great time at Black Bear Diner in Sunnyvale! Our server, Alexa, was so sweet and patient...especially with our daughter, who got to order on her own for the first time. Alexa made her feel comfortable and confident! The food came out hot and fast. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, and it was huge and cooked perfectly...crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying. Just a heads-up: this is an older location, so don’t expect anything fancy. It’s got more of a cozy, country-home vibe, which honestly adds to the charm. I love the consistency in the Black Bear Diners. This time I tried the meatloaf which was amazing. The family also had the club sandwich and my breakfast item of pancakes. All of which created a second meal to take home for the next day. The place was not too loud and consistent with other diners. Great food in great service.

8/2/25 Black Bear Diner 415 E El Camino Real Sunnyvale, CA 94087 I repeated for a solo Fri/Sat Prime Rib Dinner on a Saturday evening so I sat at the counter, which was empty. I was immediately asked for a beverage and I got water/no ice then ordered the dinner with grits and broccoli for sides. I requested my Prime Rib as rare as possible. A good size house iceberg lettuce salad and cornbread muffin were brought first. After I finished the salad the Prime Rib and sides arrived with au jus and a creamy horseradish sauce. The meat was medium well and still pink inside. It was very tender with a minimal crust. A good size piece of meat and filling for me. Everything tasted great. The staff here is trained well with respect to friendliness, courtesy, efficiency and attentiveness. A great value Prime Rib at $32.99. Definitely repeatable. 6/9/2025 Black Bear Diner 415 E El Camino Real Sunnyvale, CA 94087 I went there on a Monday morning for a quick breakfast. The place is in Sunnyvale on west bound ECR just past Fair Oaks. There is lots of parking. The interior is a contemporary diner table and booth setup with a Black Bear ambiance. Lots of Black Bear statues which kids might enjoy and a Black Bear newspaper with the menu concealed in the inside pages. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash without eggs, fruit and a biscuit. After a short wait my meal was brought to me and the quantities were huge. The CBH was unique with large shreds of meat and cubed potatoes. Service was good throughout my stay. Payment is at the registers as you exit. And I noticed that I was charged the full menu price for the CBH with eggs, and told that if I were charged for the items from the ala carte menu I would pay more. I should have had the eggs and taken them home for my dog. The food was very good with Bear sized portions. Very repeatable. Friday All You Can Eat Fish Fry!

It’s been so long since I’ve visited a @blackbeardiner !!! We got their Homemade meatloaf and their Slow cooked pot roast. We both thought this was a very hearty meal but the gravy they use was too salty for us. I also felt it was a little too much gravy on my meatloaf, maybe next time I’ll ask for it on the side and just pour the amount I’d like myself! Other than that, service was great and we had a fun time.

I am not going to yak about the price. It's what it is. The service was very good. Our waitor was super friendly, kind and funny. The host was very polite. I also liked the food and the atmosphere which had a rusty feel with bear theme in every corner. Their signature hot sauces are a series of papa, mama and baby brand respectively in various flavors. I chose the baby hot sauce on my California omelette, pleasantly it wasn't too hot. The kitchen area was very clean and organized. These people know what they are doing. The vibe was relaxing and lovely. I enjoyed it and would come back.

Food was homey and yummy, but depending on the dish, portions can be small. Their tea was particularly good compared to other restaurants I've had regular tea at. Husband got Bob's Burger special and it was gigantic! Well worth the $15.

I usually trek down to Morgan Hill to go to Black Bear but I found out about this one a year ago and decided to give them a try. I also ordered a Butter milk Waffle. Very good, on the brink of excellence. 4.5 stars Hash brown’s: meh, they looked good but the brown part was SUPER CHEWY 1.5 Stars Egg whites: excellent “hard to mess that up” 5 stars. Chicken fried steak: was good, have had better 3 Stars. NOW FOR THE SURPRISE: the Burger was cooked just over Med rare!!!! Whaaat!!! “This Black Bear knows how to cook a burger, I was sooo pleasantly surprised. “To all you people’s out there who told me.... and I quote, they have to cook the burgers well done because the burger has to be up to temp. To you I say WRONG!!!! “And Black Bear proved my point” “if they don’t cook your burger the way you want it, send the damn thing back!!! Black Bear gets 5 stars, for cooking the burger correctly. The waitress: um.... she was ok I guess 3 Stars. NOTE I GAVE THEM 3 stars overall but I added one more for a total of 4 stars because they can cook a burger correctly.

During our recent trip to US, prior to embarking on a road trip walked into Black Bear Diners at Sunnyvale for Breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed the Avocado Toast, Fries. Waffle sprinkled with sugar powder and fresh fruits for breakfast. Black Bear Diner is a chain of restaurants serving comfort foods and in operation since 1995. Menu on offer is value for money. Steak and eggs priced around 20 to 25$, Toast and Waffles priced at 15$. Open from 7 am to 8 pm on Sunday to Thursday. Service extended upto 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Options Dine in , Takeaways, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Kids menu available. Must try

Legit American food in the bay area which is a rare find. Love that some dishes come in smaller "little less" options. Great range of pies too. Tried the coconut cream which was not too sweet. Kid friendly, provides cranyons and puzzles for the little ones.

I am still aching in my stomach from all the food they served. And I only ate 1/2 of it. For $20 each person you can get an overabundance of old style cooking with fresh vegetables and meats. I had the fried chicken and it was certainly not KFC size. They only downside was the service was slow but I feel it only was because they cannot find anyone to work as wait staff in this area of CA.

Visited on a Monday around 1pm and was seated right away. Service was quick and efficient. The waitress was not friendly at all but was not rude either, she just got the job done. It was just 2 of us so it was a quick and nice meal. All food was good, and check out was fast as you can now pay on your phone.

Server girl needs to be trained. Very casual tossing utensils on table with menus. Always like four and portions, but the prices are simply getting too high for me to continue to cone to Black Bear.

The portions were unbelievably big. I ordered the vegetarian hash and even the pancakes, salad, and cornbread muffin that came with it left me almost full already. The food was decent and the prices were not high. If your appetite is not big, I recommend ordering items to share.

This place has great pancakes and omelettes, pleasant and efficient service, and the prices are good considering what you get. It's big on bear-related decor inside and out, has good and large desserts, large portions of pretty much everything, and has an odd little bear gift shop. One minus is that we asked if chorizo, which was on the menu, could be added to an omelet that didn't include it. They flatly said no. We were expecting to pay extra, but not to be denied a simple add-on. Also, at the time we were there, there was only one other table of customers. We still like the place, but that seemed a little odd.

Mario was an EXCELLENT waiter. He was very nice, warm and friendly. The food was okay except for the fried chicken which was crispy and had flavor. The manager was also very inviting and helpful. Overall, great experience 😊😊😊

We had the omelette with sweet potato fries. While the omelette was fine, the fries could have been crispier. They do offer gluten-free bread as an alternative to the regular toast.

I like that the menu takes form as a 2 pages newspaper. The service was a little slow on my first time visit at lunch time on a Saturday. Not too crowded. Nice interior decor, it feels like dining at a diner in Lake Tahoe. The kids's menu is reasonably priced and portioned. Just noticed the jukebox on the way out, wished I had seen it sooner so I could play some tunes. Cool casual family dining.

We Love Black Bear Diners. The Sweet Cream Pancakes are Just Too Good for syrup. This location has been open since Oct 2015. Nice open feel with all the typical carved Black Bears hanging around, doing silly things Today we tried two (new to us) items: 1. Taco Salad with Chicken. We previously had seen it pass by and put it on our list to try. They forgot the Refried Beans and Cilantro but otherwise 'very good'. Generous in size and nice presentation. 2. Cheeseburger Salad. Generous portion of meat and not too much lettuce. Way too little cheese for a cheeseburger. And the Onion was too strong and became overpowering to the cheeseburger flavor (ended up picking out what I could). My rating was 'good' for size, and expected cheeseburger flavor. Happy with the Onion rings, and they cooked them to my liking - not overdone. The Bananas Cream Pie was heavy on both the whipped cream and bananas cream. The bananas were at the bottom and slightly discolored. If the bananas had been missed in with cream, I would have liked it a little better. Rating: 'good'. Portions are generous. We will keep coming back to BBDs and trying more things that are new to us. And to this one while we're in town.

A good diner located in Sunnyvale. Their interiors are pretty good. We ordered avocado chicken toast and black bear burger. The toast was good but the burger did not live upto the name. Since this burger is named after the founder we had higher expectations. Hot chocolate was tasty.

The breakfast with orange juice $25-$26. This is an average price considering the inflation today. The only improvement will be the volume level of the music. Service was friendly and I got pretty much what I came here for, some comfort food. Nothing to write home about, but hits the spot. The pot roast was OK but (too much) stuff with gravy. The salmon as OK but a little dry and the veggies that came with it were either not fresh or over cooked. Side salad was fresh but otherwise average.

When the Sunnyvale location opened up in 2016, we were excited n took the whole family out for lunch. But it was TERRIBLE! Foods didn’t taste the same or worse! We went back a few more times n gave up afterward. 4 years have passed n we thought to give BB another try. To our delight, foods taste delicious n fresh! Now we dine here every month. We had brunch at Black Bear Diner and really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. The vibe was warm and inviting, with spacious seating and rustic wooden tables and chairs that made the place feel comfortable and relaxed. For food, we ordered the NY steak & eggs and the Shasta Scramble. The Shasta Scramble was the highlight—great flavor, well-mixed ingredients, and a generous portion that was very satisfying. The coffee was also excellent and definitely a plus. Unfortunately, the NY steak & eggs was disappointing. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and dry, and although the steak was ordered medium-well, it came out overcooked and slightly burned, which took away from the dish. Overall, the diner has a nice atmosphere and some solid menu items, but the pricing feels a bit high considering the inconsistency in food quality.

Today instead of going to Dennys, we decide to try local diner! And it was a great idea! When you’re entering, u can feel the smell, not nice, but it’s just for a few minutes, then u don’t feel absolutely nothing! Food was good, we order California omelette, and for my kido Ham scrambler! Everything was tasty, and huge portions!

The diner has plenty of seating so no wait as such. They have huge menu. Took some time to go through it. They have good options for breakfast and dinner along with burgers and sandwiches. The quantity is supreme for a single dish. We had to take things in to go boxes. Good food and coffee.

I ordered online for pickup and tried the 'Bear's Choice's meal with scrambled eggs, French toast, and bacon and added a Banana Cream pie for dessert. My total came out to just under $30.

This is a pretty good diner on El Camino Real that serves Breakfast & Lunch items all day - sadly, there aren't too many vegetarian options here - I wouldn't recommend going here if you're a vegetarian (if you don't eat eggs & meat). I got the Avocado Toast, which was basically a whole Avocado cut up and placed in two untoasted pieces of bread & served with fruit. Although I didn't get pie, the pies looked really good.

On mailing list for the free birthday meal etc - original Shasta location is awesome - Sunnyvale not so much - server was fine but food came slow and hash browns were not cooked fully….menu is well worn/ solid but didn’t feel like we got their best effort on food prep.

The omelet was good and the portions were great, the pancake were horible to thick and not cooked through, waiting time took fir ever i think the waiter was new , ended up being helped by another waiter thank god

I have had some absolutely fabulous food at Black Bear Diner in Southern California. And Northern California and Washington State. But this particular location was a bit of a disappointment. While the service and atmosphere were wonderful, the flavor of the food was just flat. I ordered French toast and it just didn't have any depth to the flavor. It was like they forgot the salt or something. The syrup was actually stringy. I've never seen a syrup that was stringy, and it had a sweetness that was just over the top. I hoped to relive a memory of the fabulous blackberry-stuffed French toast from the Black Bear off the Grapevine in SoCal, but they didn't have it on the menu at this location.

This specific Black Bear restaurant is losing its luster. The service was lacking since the waiter that first served us seemed to be a kitchen assistant or hostess. The waitress that helped us afterwards was very helpful but stretched thin with all the other tables. The food was very good. The pricing have gone up dramatically.

I was very disappointed with my first visit to this establishment. I arrived at the scheduled time for my togo order and it still took an additional 15 minutes for my food. I stood at the counter for 5+ minutes before I was even greeted. There were 3 people working and staring at me. When I did get the food, the pancakes were very dense and didn't taste good. I definitely won't return!

Pancakes were undercooked and burger buns were rock solid. Manager’s excuse was that Chefs are human and make mistakes. Fair, but there’s a diff between mistakes and incompetence. This is the latter unfortunately.

Ordered takeout for Bear's choice and wasn't even giving syrup for the pancakes. I didn't realize that I'd have to pay an extra $4 for whipped cream (and strawberry). I wonder how much I'd need to pay for some syrup or butter. At least the pancakes are good.

The food here was alright. It was quite filling, and the proportion sizes were huge. The pancakes were fluffy, but the bacon was quite hard. My order was supposed to have two eggs, but it seemed like the scrambled eggs were less than two.

The food quality and service has gone down hill at this location. My husband didn't get his food by the time I almost finished mine. Our waitress never came to check on us so we had to find her and waive her over to tell her that we were still missing one meal. There were no apologies, no butter, coffee was never refilled. The food quality wasn't that good either. We used to like coming here, however we don't think we'll come back.

I came here several times before. It was pretty good and fair price. Thats what i had thought. This time, I came and ordered just individual sides of sausage patties, 3 eggs, bacon, toast, cup of chillies, and coffee. With an 18% tip, I walked away paying $50 plus. I have never paid this much for breakfast before. I felt really ripped off by this place. Next time, it's good old trusty McDonald's for me!

This place was awful. We ordered online and were early to pick up our meal and we waited about 7 minutes for it to come out. When it did, everything was cold. We ordered 2 big bear breakfast meals with one having been upgraded to the Blackberry Stuffed Bearclaw French Toast. It seemed like it was going to be delicious just based on the name, however, it was stale and cold. I also upgraded the eggs to have cheddar cheese and that to be honest, despite being just as cold was the best part of the meal. The picture doesn't show the sheer failure that occurred here, but it does show that the distribution of the "Comstock" filling is too much in some spots, not enough in others, and that it wasn't quite cooked all the way even though it looked like it should be before cutting it open. I don't know about other locations, but this one was just terrible. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

My over-easy eggs arrived in a crumpled heap, their yolks tragically broken. I had eagerly ordered pancakes adorned with fresh blueberries, yet to my dismay, they came topped with chopped strawberries instead. To add insult to injury, the pancakes were served ice-cold without a hint of butter. When I inquired about the elusive blueberries, the staff casually informed me that they never have fresh ones. One can’t help but wonder why our server didn’t mention this when I placed my order. It’s unusual for a breakfast establishment to forego the delightful addition of fresh blueberries. Curious, I tried the strawberries, but they had a strange chemical taste, like they'd been soaked in fake sugary stuff. The homemade sausage patties, too, were a letdown, appearing messy and pitifully thin when I had anticipated something heartier. My husband’s toast appeared ten minutes after his meal, arriving unbuttered; he had to request butter, only to have it show up after the toast had lost any hope of warmth. Altogether, our breakfast experience today fell woefully short of expectations.

I had a much higher rating for this place at one point, but no longer. Their customer service has turned horrible, the food during a pandemic when businesses are struggling to survive was careless and they don't care about legitimate guest issues to correct them ( they only want to take the issues off social media and hide). I won't list all of the things here, but it was a laundry list. Just make sure your food is hot for your own safety if you choose to eat here.
