Opinions de Leaping Lemur Cafe San Francisco
I have not been to the zoo in years, but to my surprise, the leaping lemur Cafe at the San Francisco Zoo is amazing. It's not too high priced. Nice selection of food, and let me tell you, my whole family enjoyed the food I had the Korean fried chicken sandwich. It was delicious, and it came with french fries. When you order just a side of fries, they fill the whole box they are also fantastic. Next time you go to the zoo, plan to eat at the Leaping Lemur Cafe. You will not be disappointed.
Was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this food! It was a little on the expensive side (however this is SF) but so worth it! Chicken tenders were so good and only $14! My grandmother loved the pizza, and the pretzel is SO GOOD! It was only 6 or 7 dollars too! I wanted a second one! Definitely a must eat!

Great food. They even cater for gluten free
Didn't try the grill but the place serving Hawaiian food was great!
Delicious meatball sub! Burger and fries were good. $5 cookie was nothing special though.
Burger and the fries was good, a lil bit on the pricey side but it's all worth it.
Pricey! But you're at an amusement park so it is what it is. The food was really good!
The fries are really good ! And chicken strips are good but there kinda small but still good !
Few options, fast lines. Crispy fries. Clean. Nice staff.
Great service, amazing food and they were clean. They were expensive but it was worth it.
The San Francisco Zoo is absolutely amazing. My whole family loves going multiple times a year, so we became members. We always stop and have lunch at the Leeping Lemur Cafe because the food is great, and proceeds go back into supporting the zoo and its animals. Highly recommend!
Great zoo cafe. Food is varied and tasty. Staff is friendly. Offerings include bahnmi sandwiches, Thai noodle soup, orange chicken rice bowls, Impossible burgers as well as cheeseburgers, pizza, chicken tenders, etc. Beer also available.
I will just stand in line and order and pick up my lunch for the next time or bring our own lunches. When we ordered online service it was a mess! However, we had a great experience!
Super cool they have a mobile option. That's the route I took. I think it took a bit longer than if I went in but I did not want to go through that line. Came out when they said and everything was exactly how I ordered it.
Fast service, great environment. We ordered a cheese pizza and it tasted amazing. Great meal choices for a zoo trip day.
A good place to relax after some long walks. Molly Johnson is a wonderful host with amazing customer service skills at the Leaping Lemur cafe who truly believes in going out of her way to make guests' visit pleasant.
This cafe smashes it out of the park. Food is great and lots of selections. Never seen food this good in a park before. Well done!
You don't expect much from a zoo restaurant, but my hot dog was quite good & so were the fries.
Several food choices but the quality of the food is good. It would be easier to get a table if you avoid lunch time (12-12:30).
Zoo food is always expensive but I figure it goes partly at least to a good cause but what made this spot exceptional was the type of food! If your thing is vegan or stuff like that then they got that but what really impressed us was that beyond burgers and chicken tenders they have shrimp roll sandwiches, salmon sandwiches, Italian delights like meatballs and Italian sausage! And all tasty and reheated in a fire oven not a microwave! 🍔🥖🌭🧄🍅🍗🥪
My daughter had the grilled chicken she really like it. It came with really good fresh hot fries, we shared. I had the best hot chocolate. Great space in doors & out door seating. Nice staff.
Has a lot of fun visiting the zoo, I do realize this is a way for the zoo to make money, so we had pizza at one of the other locations in the zoo, came in for coffee and Waters were five dollars. Needless to say we didn't get coffee. But the atmosphere it was nice, staff really didn't hear act with customers that much so I would not be able to give a fair review of their service. I know no one asked us what we would like or anything while we went in but there was plenty of seating.
Look, we all know zoo food is over priced cafeteria food. I was surprised, however, at how friendly and helpful all the staff were today. Just wanted to give a shout out to all the zoo service staff who are friendly despite everything they have to deal with.

The area is convenient as it is inside the zoo. The venue sells very basic food at insane prices… $17 for an admittedly handmade flatbread pizza that tasted like something I purchased for $4 from the frozen section of my local grocer. However, if one thinks about it like a fundraiser for the zoo, it’s worth the extra cost. The location air conditioned and clean. The staff is for the most part friendly and maybe even a little flirty. TLDR: Food is aight, prices are high and hopefully help support the Zoo.
Nice to have food and drink available in the S.F.Zoo. Bring your membership card for a discount. Their menu has several good choices. Prices may seem a little high, remember that the profit goes to help the Zoo and to keep admission a little lower. Staff is always cleaning tables and providing information.

Good basic food like chicken strips and fries. You can also purchase beer. Prices are a bit high.
Really expensive, but the portions are good and the food is good quality. The customer service is awesome as well.
Cafeteria style food. Location is clean and food is good. A little expensive for what you get.
A nice spot to have a rest after a half day leaking and chasing in the zoo. Food is a little pricey but nothing surprising
Kinda pricey but convenient if you're hungry at the zoo
Simple cafe options. nice variety, everyone in our party found something they enjoyed.
Food was good! Just DONT sit at the tables surrounding the Cafe, and sit inside instead!! Look at the roof and you’ll understand.. a lot of bird poop on the roof.. when it’s windy they’ll become the salt & pepper of your food if you sit outside 😓
The usual fare - pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, soups and salads. It is very expensive (hot dog + burger + chilli = $33) but I hope, at least, that it is going to improvements at the zoo and so I'm prepared to swallow it.
Pretty good food considering it's mass produced and at zoo prices. There are also a large range of items to choose from which will ensure that everyone finds something they enjoy!
We stopped for coffee only. But the food looked good, from what I could see. 4 stars because I felt the prices were too high for cafeteria food
Happy to pay the prices to support the zoo. Far superior selection in comparison to days of yore. Staff keep the tables clean. Bathrooms nearby are relatively decent. Ample selection of condiments for the food served. -1 * for the inability to keep rando people from touching the baskets/plates of food set on counter...there should be some form of ticketing to prevent this. Otherwise happy as a clam.
Very large interior and beautiful walls of windows. We were there on a very quiet midweek day, so I couldn't give it full stars since not everything was operating. But it looks like plenty of small snacks and decent size lunches. They have beer and wine on the menu as well but pretty pricey. We loved sitting at the front windows and watching the flamingos.
When visiting the zoo and not going the picnic route, this cafe stops offers a good selection of food choices. Even for those picky young eaters they will find something there good to eat. Food quality is descent but nothing that would make the must visit list.
If you're visiting the San Francisco zoo and planning to have something to eat: either dine in or takeaway, I suppose you wouldn't have much of a choice in terms of eateries. This cafe is pretty much it and you'll have to make do with whatever is available here. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon and it was almost empty although as time progressed, I saw more customers. There is plenty of seating available: both inside as well as outside. You can order via the self-service touchscreen. My order of hot dog and fries was ready in literally 2 minutes. I understand why: they just put the hotdog in the bun and give it to you. The sauces (barbeque sauce, tomato ketchup), mayo, yellow mustard etc are kept separately in big plastic dispensers and you're free to add whatever you want as many times as you may require. The cost could be slightly less: I paid around $17 for the 2 items and felt it was more than what I would pay at a standalone cafe. I suppose they charge a small premium as they're based within the zoo premises. Maybe that is standard practice. There are refrigerators stocked with cold fizzy drinks and there is also a separate area vending hot drinks like coffee which I did not try. They also serve the Bay Area specialities like Clam Chowder. Overall, an average experience: nothing extraordinary or specifically worth highlighting. The hot dog and fries were good.
appreciated the kind and courteous service at cash wrap. she seamlessly handed me a paper straw. fyi no lids great move to cut down on plastic lids. assortment of fountain drinks; including my favorite hi C fruit punch.
Food quality was really good for a zoo. Expensive, but also expected. Only downside was being notified of our order being ready through SMS (which we didn't have access to since we're not from the states). Otherwise, way better than we thought for a tourist attraction. Clean and friendly staff.

It’s your average zoo cafeteria. The food was decent. It was hit or miss. My meatballs and bread were salty. Hubby’s cheeseburger was okay, the side french fried was good. They had a lot of selections based on American cuisine. Their indoor interior was huge and spacious, but it was self-served.
The food was not bad, expensive for sure, same as what you might expect from a zoo. The thing that I didn't appreciate was that my order was ready. I saw the food and the name, but the guy said I had to wait for them to put the food in the pick up shelf, (which there was not even an indication about it) so he let the food there for an extra 7 minutes before he decided to grave it and put it in the shelf. Imagine a 5yo who's been walking and wants his food. It just amazed me how little empathy the worker had. I worked in the food industry when I was younger and come on. He just needed to say, "Oh sure, you can grab it," instead of making me wait for idk what reason.
The burger and fries were pre-made and sitting under heat lamps but they were basically cold when we ate them. The indoor seating area is nice and clean. Although the burger was cold, it was large and tasty.
Quality food, very expensive! Soft drinks are $7 for a cup! Service is poor, staff are rude.

Standard fast food fare, veggie burger, pizza, salads, cold sandwiches.
Despite the menu, they do not sell smoothies. They do have a slushy machine, but that was non-operational. They have no non-dairy creamer options.
Worst pho I had in my life. Even sriracha cannot save it. Go with burger and pizza you are safe.
Handy location, and the kids' pb&j meal was good for the grandkids. But almost no vegetarian options and quite expensive.
Just grabbed a quick coffee. It was hot but not my favourite. A bit overpriced but expected for a zoo Cafe I suppose.
The food is decent, they could use more options/better service at the register.
The standard has taken a nose dive. The new food contractors have taken away some good food options.
I visit.while at the SF Zoo. It is usually a break for coffee. It is conveniently placed centrally in the Zoo. I am a regular.
Don't expect much. The burgers are clearly unfrozen patties. Instead, head to the other cafe near the little puffer zoo train station – it serves very good pizzas.
Very overpriced. The food portions were not worth 15 bucks and the fountain drinks were over 6 dollars. The food was pretty good but not worth the price.
Food is standard reheated cafeteria quality. The prices are outrageous. $14 for a 6" diameter cheese pizza and a 1 liter bottle of Dasani
Was going to eat here, but noticed that it was way too overpriced.
It's a concessions service so of course it's a bit over priced. Basic street food / food court - Pizza, burgers, fries, etc. There's decent interior seating, with self serve drinks and condiments. Quality is better than a fast food restaurant, but not quite upto California diner/cafe standards.
So the Lemur Cafe. The food was good but extremely expensive. $12.95 for chicken tenders and fries. $14.99 for a ceasar salad I can buy at the grocery store for $3.95. Then $9.99 for a souvenir cup with free refills but the lid doesn't stay on.
The tables are kept clean and the trash cans are regularly emptied. Got the burger and fries. The fries were.pretty good, but the burger was very under-seasoned and soggy.
The food is decent and at $12 for a burger and some fries, it would be a better deal just to include a beverage with it. We (families with children during this trying time) can't afford a can of soda or a bottle of water at $10 a piece. I did appreciate mobile ordering with this cafe though because our food was ready before I got there. So I didn't need to stand in that long line with a whining 7 year old that's starving... But a tip to let us know beforehand that our food will be waiting at a designated area instead of just assuming we know this. 😉

Limited seating, poor food choices, and grossly overpriced. You are much better off bringing some snacks in with you, instead of eating from any eateries inside the Zoo.
Don't buy the sandwiches
As a snack bar at a zoo, this is adequate, but barely so. A few selections that kids might like.
It wasnt what I expected. It was just ok. Prices were high $10 for 2 sodas.
Offers all your American staples - chicken fingers, French fries…but it costs an arm and a leg…
Everything us extremely over priced. For 10 dollars got 2 little handfuls of tortillas, cheese sauce and 2 packets of salsa. Not worth it. I suggest if going there bring your own food and drinks.
It's you only indoor eating option at the San Francisco Zoo that I am aware of, so if you need some share or a break from the elements, this is the place. However, the food is extremely overpriced and nothing to write home about. One positive thing is that you get free refills on your soda/tea/lemonade, which at the zoo is a pretty big deal.
I played 13+ dollars for the rice noodle bowl. Unlike the orange chicken bowl which is the exact same price and comes with a large helping of orange chicken and broccoli, The rice noodle bowl comes with just a pinch of tofu and even less kimchi. I had to drown it and soy sauce to get any flavor, and at that point it's sad to realize that you're just eating plain rice noodles with soy sauce. Don't order it
mediocre food, at best, at exorbitant prices. old dry pretzels etc..
Not at all impressed with the charcuterie pretzel. Seemed like a decent idea in theory but a cold pretzel with a few salami slices just didn't work out for me.
Please bring back the old mac n cheese! The new version is horrible.
Most of my complaints were typed with SF Zoo. App order takes forever, because staff is not incapable of operating a food service. Your food is better off ordering onsite...the menu app leaves you with salty and soggy fries because staff left it sitting on a counter inaccessible to guests for over 20 minutes. I had to flag down an employee and tell them my food is ready....RIGHT THERE. No one is cleaning or sanitizing tables, so be sure to bring wipes. One other thing to note, staff here are INCAPABLE of pouring beer!!! There are also food menu items that are NOT on the app.
Disappointed that they were out of all soups (I had asked for clam chowder...) and most of the sandwich supplies. Had to settle for a small pepperoni pizza (no meat lovers pizzas in stock either). A more expensive than what the food quality was worth but the indoor seating area was clean and warm.
Granted we came to the zoo on a rainy weekday, so I guess we should have expected this being the only food option in the whole zoo, but $50 for a cheeseburger and a burned pizza that went straight to the trash is a bit much. Cheeseburger was ok. Cold, but ok. For $13.99. The family eating lasagna on the bench out of the tupperwear should have been my hint.
As an European, this food is the worst. Hot dog is just salt and fat, the bread feels like cardboard. Even the fries are disgusting. And steer away from the coffee ... Oh, and did I mention that it was expensive as well? But pretty nice to site outdoors :)

I went there with my family. My family is pure vegetarian. The staff gave me pieces of chicken mixed in the chilli cheese fries which is a cheat. I request the cafe owner that you should take action a little request for public please If someone goes to eat something there then think carefully before going, the quality of the food is also rubbish

Overpriced mediocre foods. The worst part of SF Zoo.
Quality of food is really bad, gave my son a hot dog that was sitting for over 2 hours... illegal for a start.
The food and service are awful!! And beyond expensive, $6 for the worlds worst fries!!
Overpriced dorm food, big yikes Took out a small loan to pay for a dry pretzel, a hotdog, and a cheeseburger encased in a hard bun
Terrible food. Overpriced and low quality. Pack a lunch, bring a blanket, and have a picnic instead.
Place looks nice but 7 dollars for a soft drink is insane. Didn’t know I was at the damn airport.
They refused to make their cheeseburger without tomato and told me just take it off, instead of them just simply making it without the tomato, I had to settle for a not so appetizing pretzel, bad service... I asked what they would've done if someone was allergic to tomatoes and she just went and took it off, for that price (13.99) you would think they would've made it without the tomato when you ask. Stay vigilant kings, this ain't the place!
Gross. I was feeling guilty for feeding my kids that terrible food. But then realized the SF Zoo should feel guilty for offering it as an option. Food quality was poor. Service was not existent. Incredibly unsatisfactory.
Awful food, we got the noodles at Asian option, food was just warn water with no flavor and still cost $13 per person. Chicken strips and fries were still standard. They should be ashamed of serving such food.
Very worst food i had in my life... I m also working as a culinary staff for 10 years.. but I never seen anywhere people serving this kinds of worst food and i never had it too.. after i and my frd had my lunch here i got a digestion and stomach ache problem until night.. staffs also need to be train well for prepare food and handling.. sorry for leave this bad rating.. because I m also working in same food industry for so long.. but this is need to be immediate attention...
if i could give it zero stars i would. i was excited because i love lemurs but anyways i got a burger and the BOTTOM bun (so check yours) had black mold spots. they tried saying it was flour…meanwhile NO other burgers i saw in my immediate area has that. the line cooks were annoyed i returned it and asked the manager if i should be charged to change my food out to tenders, when i should have gotten a free refund for MOLDLY BREAD. i didn’t get a chance to take a photo but i wish i did. CHECK YOUR BURGERS
Very rude staff and stale food. I had completed an order on the tablets inside and whilst waiting for my food to be ready, I was looking around and picked up an extra water bottle in addition to my order to check out. When my order was ready i picked up the bag to check the contents and the male at the till came to me and spoke in an aggressive manner with a raised voice saying “do you understand what a pick up is?!” And took the extra bottle away from my hands and took it to the fridge. I was like what are you doing i wanted two bottles, then he was oh yeah you want two then? I said not anymore thanks and he and his colleagues were making hand gestures behind me when i turned to look. The food was stale as it was prepared way before the order and just waiting around in case someone ordered it. Very disappointing.
Skip it, get a spamp and go to georges zoo across the street.
My little daughter and I went to have a little snack at this cafe. We were there for the first time and could not place an order, a man at the checkout started shouting at us loudly, chased us out of the queue, then took a paper cup from my child because she chose juice, not coffee! It was just awful! My daughter left there in tears. I would really like to complain about the staff of this cafe.
The worst chews burger I ever had. You are charging more than $17. No cheese on cheese burger. Lettuce and tomatoes were old mushy. Buns were cold. Seriously. These crazy
Cheeseburger was the most tasteless Cheeseburger I've ever eaten. It tasted literally like nothing. Also way too greasy and too expensive.
Please pack your own food. I had their food and immediately got food poisoning.
It's very dirty. The tables are very sticky. The floor is dirty. I wish the food was better. Soup was ordered. San Francisco Cioppino $20.99 Clams, shrimp, mussels, salmon, tomato saffron broth- it's not delicious tomato soup. Buffalo Chicken Flatbread $16.99 -A small tortilla. Only the dough tastes good. The filling was all removed. The meat is strange and spicy. French Fries $6.49- The only thing that turned out to be less delicious. It's a new experience for us. Unfortunately, we won't come back here again. Thank you. Soda smells like chlorine...
Please DO NOT eat here! I got a terrible food poisoning from a bean burger. The only meal I ate that day, got me sick for 5 days. Not to mention that we waited 1.5hrs for that burger and they gave us a regular meat burger. So we took it back and it took another 30mins to make the bean burger. When I finally got it, it was a plain bun with the bean patty and a few fries on the side. No sauce, no lettuce, no tomato, nothing. I immediately felt like that is pretty ridiculous for how much they are charging for it. I had a few bites and took the rest home. A few hours later I got super sick. Please do yourself a favor and do not eat here. The food and service is terrible and it is really expensive for what you get. You are better off bringing your own food.
Worst experience. Do not waste your money. This was easily one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Drinks cost $12 and are not even refillable. The food tasted like nothing more than reheated frozen products — genuinely awful. While the interior is clean and comfortable, the service is unbelievably bad. I can confidently say that even hotels in India provide better service than this place. The smartest choice is not to spend your money here. I already made the mistake of wasting mine, so you don’t have to waste yours.
