Opinions de Atkins Seafood Waxahachie
Have always seen this place when we go to downtown Waxahachie, and meant to try it but never did. Today, we did, and all I can say is WOW! The food was awesome, I mean really good! When they say "if it were any fresher it would be swimming" they are not lying! The food was very innovative, not just your regular fish-n-chips or shrimp basket. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizers, and the cheese bread with blackened shrimp to start. Yummy, yummy, yummy. For entrees, we had the fried shrimp, which was very good. We also had the lobster grilled cheese, which was crazy sounding but delicious. To finish off, the peach cobbler hit the sweet spot. It was made from scratch and quite good. Although the food was great, I really want to talk about the best part, which was our server Nicole. She was fantastic! Knowledgeable about every menu item, and spot on with recommendations. It's hard to find good service these days, and she is what you'd call a professional in her field. She made the experience even better and I was truly impressed. Thank you Atkins for great food, and Nicole for amazing service!
Food is always great and staff is excellent!
Everything we ordered was delicious! The oysters were super fresh, the fish tacos were really good and the burger was awesome! Would definitely recommend. Staff was also super friendly and attentive.
I came 80 miles to meet family for lunch. Oysters on the half were excellent, fresh, cold, almost sweet. Grilled mahi was perfect. The special was salmon croquettes. They were nothing special. The shrimp salad was good and your house dressing is the best. The postage stamp sized tables are a little ridiculous but I understand their purpose.
Discovered this restaurant driving between Dallas and Central Texas. The food varies with their catch (they supply most of the fish from their own boats). Some evaluations imply that it is all fried, which is not true. The wait-staff is consistent and very attentive and management limits turnover by treating their staff “like family”. To me, their business model is very unique: fresh from their boat, to restaurant, served by loyal workers, at a fair price!
Jackie was a great server and the fried fish baskets are excellent!!
We stopped in as we were just passing through, and boy, are we glad we did!! The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. The wait staff was super friendly and provided wonderful service! Their homemade key lime pie was to die for!! I highly recommend you stop here if you get a chance!
Had my family come in and dine for the first time! We all ordered the fried cod and shrimp.Service was great from our server Nicole :) the atmosphere was good too everyone was smiling and having a good time with family . Definitely going to visit again.
Bought fresh fish at their market to prepare at home. Shrimp & cod were delicious. Cod was frozen but FRESH. Shrimp had never been frozen but kept in ice. Great flavor.
Food and service is always top notch. Our factory place.
10/10 every thing was outstanding and definitely adding to my weekly routine.
Great place for sea food! 10/10 Great outdoor patio ❤️🔥 Love their blackened shrimp basket, ALWAYS get their hush puppies, they are the best!! Their fried oyster po’boy is so good! Very filling. Their bar is also 10/10
Atkins is a very good seafood place. Atmosphere is very fun, all be it a little loud as it's sort of small, but that's not a big deal. The food is super fresh and very tasty, I haven't had a bad meal yet.
We love this place for lunch. It's affordable and great food.
When we are on a trip our family likes to pick new places to eat. Our youngest was craving seafood, and when we searched for seafood in the Waxahachie area and this place popped up first. Don't let the small space and limited parking fool you. This place is worth the stop. If you're feeling claustrophobic, like my kiddo was sit outside on the patio. The weather was perfect for it. Everything we had was made to order, hot on the table, and homemade. My husband got the cod and shrimp basket with fries. The cod was perfectly cooked. I ordered the shrimp and clams and fries basket. Both were delicious and cooked just right. I also had a banana coloda, which wasn't very alcoholic but was tasty. The oldest child got a bowl of gumbo with an order of crawfish. She couldn't stop complimenting the gumbo and was very satisfied with the amount of spice the crawfish had. The youngest had the crab legs. These were a bit pricey, so be aware. However, she was extremely happy with her meal so we couldn't complain. Our waitress was amazing she was sweet and attentive throughout our meal. Highly recommend if you're in the area and craving some seafood. Yums!
The only seafood i’ll eat away from the coast! I take everyone here. I love the vibe and the food is amazing. The portions leave leftovers. Can’t beat it!!
We love Atkins and just had another great meal. Grilled salmon with sauteed vegetables grilled red fish black bean salad and they're perfect hush puppies. Our server Nicole has fantastic enthusiastic knowledgeable and fun wish we could come everyday.
Best seafood in Ellis county PERIOD. Been coming here for years and have tried all the others. Nothing else compares.
I've been eating oysters since I was a toddler. My family would rake them up and eat them fresh from the gulf. I ate Atkins Oysters fried, raw and made my own Rockefeller with their half shelled oysters. Flavor, price and staff were excellent!! Even with the road construction (soon to be over) it is absolutely worth the trip. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
We went on a regular weekday lunchtime. The waitress was great with a charming sense of humor. The foods she recommended were spot on, but to be honest, I think all of it would have been great. The bacon wrapped shrimp was sooo good. The crabcakes were more crab than bread, which is rare, and the oysters were very fresh and delicious. One of the highlights while sightseeing Waxahatchie!
The food was delicious however my fried oysters were minuscule. The blackened shrimp was delicious and the hush puppies were awesome! The salad was so fresh and crisp and the feta cheese on the fresh wild greens was the best! Darrell had fried shrimp no surprise he always eats fried shrimp lol I tried it too pretty good! But those hush puppies hit and dipped in butter yummy do you hear my arteries hardening! The server she was so sweet! Wish they had boiled crawfish sold out yesterday! Ask for Carmen she is a sweetheart!
Had a job in Waxahachie this week and we were invited to lunch from one of the contractors. He lives in town and so he recommended this place. I must say it did not disappoint! Food was amazing I had the combo basket with shrimp and crab cake, with hush puppies and okra. It was delicious. I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area
Marco is absolutely the best host! I had the 2 piece Grilled Mahi Mahi with Fries and it was delectable. The fish fillets were juicy and grilled just right. Sat at the 4evibey bar and really enjoyed the ambience.Must visit this restaurant anytime you are in Waxahachie... Oh and Marco makes somes mean drinks that will knock your socks off!
Late lunch...service was great...had red fish and fried oysters could have been at Landry's but for half the price
We got hungry and were looking for good sea food, This restaurant has been opened in the new location closer to downtown and it is the perfect stop for amazing seafood. pros >friendly and courteous wait staff. >flavors were spot on, and all the combinations were very nice. >I recommend the shrimp and hushpuppies, fresh and crispy. >outdoor patio was a plus >will definitely go back.
The food was delicious and fresh tasting. I got the blackened red fish and crab cake- so good. Their grilled veggies are delicious! My husband got the fried red fish, shrimp and fries. He enjoyed them as well. Highly recommend.
What a pleasant and delicious place to eat. Atmosphere and the environment, was spot on!! Thank you to everyone, who is at Atkinson!!! For a delightful and great food experience 👍….. definitely recommend this place to anyone! Can’t remember are waitresses name, but she was right on time with everything!!! Thanks again!!💯
Outstanding, fresh, delicious, reasonable. Quite a pleasant surprise for Waxahachie!
We enjoy not only the food, but Marco is a the best bartender around.
We had a great meal. Staff and service friendly.
We have lunch at Adkins when my friend is in town. Food is always fresh and prepared perfectly. Waitstaff is friendly and helpful. I have to have my Atkins seafood.
The waitstaff is awesome. They mast a point to stop say hello and welcome back. We go there a lot and the staff will stop and ask about my grandbaby.
Everything was perfect! The food is always delicious 😋 Will definitely be back one of our favorite spots in Waxahachie ♥️♥️
Delicious red fish with hushpuppies, black bean salad, & grilled veggies. Saw oysters on the half shelll on another table, cerviche at another...mine was great! Can't wait to try ot all
Grilled red snapper or red fish is perfection in every bite. Cozy seating but we are always seated whether we have a table of 4 or 6.
I have visited a couple of times. If you are looking for fresh and I mean FRESH seafood you need to try this place. All the favorites are here and it is all good. Nothing fancy here just good food. Staff is friendly and helpful. Can get crowded but worth the wait. Check this place out.
You can eat healthy here! Everyone in the restaurant were eating fried platters. We got their salads which you can add fish, shrimp or chicken on top. Great salad with mixed greens, feta, strawberry, blueberry, tomatoes, almonds, and the house dressing is excellent (a honey lemon vinaigrette).
Today I Stopped by Atkins in Waxahachie and had a great experience! The atmosphere is casual, clean, and welcoming, and the service was friendly from the moment we walked in. I tried the lobster roll Connecticut style, fried lobster po’ boy, and hushpuppies everything tasted fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The portions were generous and you can tell they take pride in their seafood. If you’re looking for a local spot in Waxahachie for good seafood and a laid back vibe, this is definitely worth a visit. I’ll be coming back and recommending it to friends and clients!
Incredibly fresh oysters and other seafood at reasonable prices. On a par with the best oyster bars you'll find on the Gulf Coast, only 300 miles inland. The oyster po boy is terrific, as are the rotating soups of the day. The lobster roll tastes just like the ones I used to buy on the pier in Mystic. Usually 2 or 3 varieties of fresh oysters on the shell and one of the best bartenders in the South Metro area. What's not to love?
My wife and I have both found this to be our favorite seafood restaurant. The location, the restaurant itself, the quality and price of the food and the wait staff. All are outstanding! And a special shout out for Nicole as she is fantastic and so friendly, it really makes our visit that much more special!
Food and staff are phenomenal!!! It is easy to see why so many are flocking to your doors. It would be nice if you could somehow use the patio area in colder weather with outdoor curtains and space heaters. Growing pains. We are big fans, and retired. We will try and come earlier in the week to help just a little with the mad rush.
Everything we ate was so absolutely delicious! The owner was very kind and the staff was great! Get there early because there's always a wait and it is always worth it!
Shrimp and fish are always fresh and delicious. My husband and I eat here every Friday. We love the waitresses and the owners are great!
food was delicious, waitress was very nice and helpful. I had the fried shrimp, it was tender and fresh and as usual I loved it. My husband had grilled red fish and was very satisfied. This is a regular eating spot for us and hope to be returning soon.
Husband and I were in town to go to a haunted house and stopped by. We fell in love with this place. The calamri was amazing and had tentacles! That is so hard to find. The sauce to dip it in was also great. I ordered the shrimp and oyster combo with fries and fried okra. Everything was cooked perfectly. We are already talking about going back. Also, our waitress was attentive and friendly. Something else that is not so common anymore.
We were looking for a new seafood place for our 46th anniversary and decided to try Atkins Seafood! The waitress was great, atmosphere was delightful and food was outstanding as well as the “old fashioned” from the bar! BIG portions and certainly was take home worthy. Salmon & crab legs! Yum
My first visit to this restaurant. Our server was courteous and polite. The food was served quickly while still being fresh and hot. The southwest soup was sweet potatoes and shrimp was delicious. The hush puppies were crisp on the outside and moist and flavorful inside. The crab legs with corn and potatoes were delicious. Very fresh and the butter and garlic seasoning was the perfect combination. I really enjoyed my meal and will definitely visit again.
It was my first time here and let me tell y’all, the food is amazing! Service was amazing our waitress was very attentive and gave us great menu options! We sat outside due to the restaurant being a little small. And there was so many mosquitos so be sure to spray before y’all go. No menu options for little but the hot ham sandwich was great. Me and my family live almost an hour away, we were here on business but I’m willing to make the drive just because the food is so great! The bacon wrapped shrimp came with a little more we were just to hungry to wait for a picture 😅
Came in for Lunch on a Saturday at 1pm. Great atmosphere on the patio and inside. The staff are very attentive and look to enjoy their jobs. The shrimp "PoBoy" had huge shrimp and with fresh ingredients 9/10. The special "Krabby Patty w/tots was absolutely delicious10/10!!!! The added side of hushpuppies were some of the best I've ever had 10/10 . Peach Cobbler was ok, 7/10 for presentation. Alcoholic Drinks, food, and desert was $73. Very fairly priced. I'm headed back soon!!!!
We like this place.ATKINS SEAFOOD. Are waitresses was so nice. Took the time to explain what they had going on. Because that was are first time. LOVE THERE OYSTER! I HAD TWO SERVINGS. SO GOOD...! IT WAS BUSY on the day we went. But worth the wait. Thank you everyone at ATKINS SEAFOOD. FOR SHOWING US A GREAT SERVICE.
One of the top 2 choices for seafood in Waxahachie. Nice quality, a bit loud but OK, efficient service, good menu and specials.
Food was delicious. Service was awesome. The seafood combo was expensive ($31) but delicious. So, why did I remove a star? Because it was served in a tiny basket with everything stacked on top of each other. Really hard to eat. It ruined the whole experience for me. The food was good enough to still get four stars, though. Warning! If you like your fried seafood soft and mushy, you may not like this. It was brown enough to be almost burned. I love it that way, but most people I know don't agree with me. I'm sure they will under cook it for you if you ask.
This was our first time eating here on January 2, 2024. Nicole was our server, and she was really nice! The garlic bread and crab fingers were good. Nicole recommended the crab cakes. I do not. They are shredded crab and reminded me of old school salmon patties. The red fish special with mixed vegetables was very good. The hush puppies are crazy good. I look forward to eating here again when cod is the fish of the day. I saw the previous reviews complain about price and portion size. The prices are good for fresh fish and there was more food then we could eat. I would have given 5 stars for our meal, if I had not disliked the crab cakes. Definitely try them out.
The food is amazing but the building is way to small. I feel like I am in a sardine can and can reach over to the next table to grab their salt... If you get a bigger place I would be sure to come back more often.
It was our first time at the new location, and Atkins didn't disappoint. The server was great, and the food was outstanding. Gumbo is easily the best in Ellis county. The wife had fish/shrimp combo and I had 2 piece fish combo basket. They even prepared my fish in 2 separate ways (1 fried, 1 blackened). Everything was prepared perfectly. My only regret is that we hadn't been to the new location sooner. More pics to come.
The food and drinks were amazing, I had charbroiled oysters, small fried shrimp and mango jalapeño margarita. The only reason I gave the review 4 stars instead of 5 is we were seated against the wall at a 2 table on the corner by the bar. The entire time as staff were passing by I felt as if they were going to knock my drink or condiments over. It was a very tight location for the table. Don’t get me wrong staff, food and drinks are amazing, this particular table was challenging. Side note the sweet potato fries were amazing!
For 5 years we have enjoyed Adkins! We are big into paring our food with adult drinks, especially at dinner. Unfortunately, they have a poor wine selection (for our liking) so we’ve resolved to only eat items at dinner that pair well with beer since they carry the local HoneyHush. We love the fried baskets and crawfish boils for dinner. If we eat at lunch without wanting an adult beverage we will have their fresh fish selections, but that is very rare for our schedule. We will continue to eat here because it’s delish but we wish they would entertain a better wine selection other than value wine for those of us who want to eat non-fried fish and pair it with a good wine or allow us to bring our own for a small cork fee.
Had to do another review on this place.Fresh seafood flown in daily. The food was awesome 👍 although the fish portions are smaller but yummy!I had the fish and fried shrimp cooked to perfection.Crab cake for an appetizer.Wife had salmon salad.Drinks not skimpy on alcohol if that's what you like but I had 50/50 tea with lemons.Watress was awesome (Jackie).Marco the bartender nice guy.I gave a 4star review because the place is small.Get there before 5 and no problem in 20 minutes the place was packed even the out door patio but highly recommend this restaurant. If your ever in down down Waxahachie you need to try this place.Highly recommend. For 2 it was $80 with drinks. Not bad considering today's inflation.
Returned again and the seafood was scrumptious. Dined inside and the service was excellent. Why such a low star for this favored local restaurant? It breaks my heart but here it goes. We waited 35 minutes after our take out order was due for pick-up. The lady apologized repeatedly as she forgot to enter our called-in order. The place was very busy and the kitchen was running behind. We understand the forgeting and busy kitchen. We were glad for the apology. But only a verbally statement and no tangible resolution to such an incident is not enough. An offer of a free dessert would have been appropriate. But nothing, nada, nilo. The manager saw my wife waiting the entire time and did not step in. We were patient and not explosive. Simply waited to see what their remedy might be. No discount, extra hush puppies, desert, gift card; only a verbal apology. Sadly customer service was seriously lacking in this incident. We still love the food and wish them well. Been looking for a neighborly seafood place and we found it today. Tried this place out of the blue with no reccomentations. The food was well prepared and utterly delicious. Have not had oysters this good since we lived on the east coast. Fries were also quite good. Tartar sauce and the cocktail sauce were some of the best I have ever tasted. Simple environment with a lot of locals. Many customers were known by name. Service was attentive. I even left an oversized tip I was so impressed. I believe that they are moving to a larger location. Hush puppies were very much appreciated by this southern boy. They also sell fresh fish and have daily specials. Our oyster basket meal was fresh. Give this place a try! Key lime pie is superb!
The food was pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty good. I think the portions are a bit lite for the price. The grilled mahi mahi was decent. Fried Cod was just ok. But wish I ordered grilled. The onion rings were not good. Tater tots were good. I liked the staff. The options were limited. May come back and try again.
Not the best service. The waitstaff don't even acknowledge your presence. Won't even let us know they see us. Went here for Mardi Gras and the crawfish boil, and I have to say, if that crawfish was a reflection of what the rest of the menu is like, I won't be coming back. I think those mudbugs we smaller than crickets and had little to no flavor. We were so disappointed in the crawfish that I took the wife to the nearest Chinese buffet to get better ones!
Very good lobster roll and fries I’ll definitely get that again. Key lime pie was also very good. Crawfish was the worst I’ve ever had and I love crawfish. No flavor just spicy.
Saturday afternoon visit. First time here. Busy dining room and bar. Clean tables & restrooms. Seated promptly. Service was really slow. Crab fingers were good but served lukewarm. Had to ask for appetizer plates. Ordered a lobster roll, crab cake, grilled shrimp, garlic bread, fries. Slow service = cold/lukewarm food. As a rule we don't send food back to the kitchen. This was no exception. Incredibly disappointing though because everything was tasty - just not hot. At all. Food should have been served more quickly. Server should have been more attentive. Get it together.
I love love seafood so I decided to keep it local. Visited yesterday. Inside dining area was pretty small and tight but they do have outside dining. Inside dining area was fully occupied but I was only offered seating at the bar (which was right at the door) or a seat at ‘community table’…out of those two options, chose community table. Ordered the appetizer shrimp kisses (5 shrimp filled with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon), cup of gumbo, piece of fried cod and a mango dragon fruit margarita. Shrimp kisses and margarita were the best part of the meal, gumbo and small piece of cod were ok. Carmen, my server, was the highlight of my dining experience. She explained every dish in detail and was attentive and polite. Was it worth it? Not for me. Would I revisit? Probably not. Try them for yourself, your experience may be totally different!
The portions were very small considering the price of the appetizer (calamari) and entrees (shrimp and deep fried cod). There wasn’t enough sweet potato fries to even share. A typical customer would have been disappointed to spend $75 for two meals and drinks. The waitress was very attentive and polite.
Food was good. Service was ok. Never offered a drink refill never asked if we wanted anything else. Crowded at first. Crab cakes were really good.
Cool server Emerson. The food was aight not great. We got the $32 platter and the mussels tasted like all batter. The blackened shrimp was good, fish was ok. Great wine, beer and mix drinks prices. I am not sure we will be back.
The shrimp had an old seafood taste. The oyster was not fried crispy. The ceviche was not fresh. Just wasn't good food. More than likely wont be back. Do yourself a favor and find a marisco
Invited my parents for an anniversary dinner here. We stood at the door for about 13 minutes. Even though the staff saw us no one ever said anything. My dad mentioned that it was like sitting in a dollhouse. Very small. I ordered the lobster. Very tough. My mom ordered shrimp and a salad. I literally had to ask the waitress if the three pieces of lettuce was 'the salad'. The table top was not even big enough for four dinners and the appetizer. $240 later.....I don't know what happened here, but we won't be back. Ridiculous.
decided to stop in for dinner and give the place a try, main dining area full so we were sent to the patio, wx was ok so we agreed, as soon as we got to patio are noticed how dirty the concrete was it looked as if it had not been cleaned/pressure washed in a long time especially under the tables, there were food scraps everywhere along with dead roaches! waitress came and took orders, drinks/cold oysters came out and when she put them on table I had to do a dbl look cause it appeared as if the shells were empty, the oysters were so small u could have put 4 into one shell and still had room, NOT good!! took all of 2 min to finish and main course came out, I ordered the snapper w/rice special, again when she put it on the table I almost had to ask where the fish was at, the "filet" was under the rice/sauce and was very very small for being a fresh cut filet(a kids happy meal patty is bigger)? the rice tasted like it came frozen out of a bag and it was barely warm, no clue what the sauce was comprised of?... at this point I am thinking to myself the folks leaving reviews either got very lucky or they were enjoying the bar well before eating?? for $30 oysters the size of my thumb nail and a "filet" the size/thickness of a piece of cardboard, to me this place is just not worth it... the only positive is that the staff is very friendly and our waitress was mostly attentive, outside noise is loud due to the constant street traffic but seems the inside is just as loud with everyone trying to talk over each other??? if you are local and want a basic (some fresh/some trucked) meal give it a try, but for "real" seafood selection this ain't it imo..... good luck
Everything seems over fried, I ordered the shrimp kisses, add bacon was black. My husband ordered shrimp and fish, the shrimp we're over fried, along with a hush puppies I had the lobster roll and it was great. The sweet potato fries we're great as well.
Came to get a bowl of gumbo to go only for it to be no crab claws or shrimp in it like usual. I was very disappointed. I basically drove home roux and sausage pieces 🙄 it also wasn't filled up...this used to be my fav but that really upset me. Not to mention no one acknowledged me to take my order for at least 8 minutes while standing at the to order checkout line.
I'm not sure why these people hate my wife and I so much! Every time we walk in there it is like an episode of what would you do? Tonight March 5th 2025 was truly the Last Straw. After waiting last year 45 minutes for an order they said they had misplaced .....tonight we went there, waited at the doorway for an obviously empty table for about 3 to 5 minutes. A couple walked in behind us, and I think even another couple after that. The waitress walked over told the people behind us they had a table ready for them and proceeded to walk them to the table. The people behind us as well as everyone at the bar and probably everyone in the restaurant were wondering what the hell just happened here? As we walked to the parking lot to our car, the waitress was yelling at us... we are so sorry come in and we will see you to which I replied never again thank you never again.
Had alot of people in there and then the guy at the door wanted us to wait outside in the cold weather no I think not
Gave it 1 star. Got there, seated rather quickly(good sign) but that's where it ends. No servers came to our table. The gentleman who sat us had to come over and take our order. As people that came out for us they got waited on and got their drinks got their advertisers and even got their food in the meantime we never got our appetizer or our salad or anything after waiting approximately 25 minutes with no appetizers no or anything we just left. First time there and last time there. Sorry couldn't rate food.
I loved this place at one point. Not sure what happened, but it's a no for me now. I ordered fried fish, fries and hush puppies. The portion size was that of a chicken finger, and everything was just gross. This place went from me highly recommended it to my family and friends to being a place I will never patronize again. Its been awhile since I've been here, so not sure what happened to this place. Overpriced and not worth it.
Was really disappointed!! They appear to have a good menu, which draws you in, so we thought we would give them a try. That was not a good idea! Got the flounder with spicy shrimp and crab cake. The shrimp was very small, and tasted fishy...and was not spicy at all..the crab cake had what seemed like pieces of hard shells in it. After 3 bites, each with a hard piece, I couldn't eat it anymore. There was nothing spectacular about the flounder either, small thin piece of fish. You don't get what you pay for....too expensive, small portions and not quality seafood!
Order the catfish & shrimp basket to go and it was awful. Nothing tasted fresh, like cooked with old grease. The best thing in the basket were the veggies. Seems the basket would have come with at least 1 hush puppie but I’m sure it have been stale as well. I threw this mess in the garbage.
